ENGLISH5 QUARTER4 MODULE1 WEEK1-3 How Visual and Multimedia Elements.pptx
Social technology
1. After taking the learning preference survey, my results were as follow: Reflective-1, Sensual-7,
Sequential-3, and Verbal-3. By the end of this course, my thinking has encouraged me to believe that I
definitely learn best visually, and verbally. By the looks of my results, I did not score high in the visual
and verbal portion of the survey, but I know that from firsthand experience, my learning preference is
learning visually and verbally. In addition, the result of the learning preference survey did not change my
view on the two learning preferences that suit me best. Overall, I do not believe that a survey can
determine what learning preference is best for you that is something you need to figure out within
yourself.

2. For many reasons the learning pathway I chose at the beginning of the class is the warrior
pathway. I chose this particular pathway because I wanted to see self progression, personal growth, as
well as improvement within my academics over the semester. I wanted to be able to experience all
these things more on an individual level, rather than in a group. I do not mind working in groups at all,
but like I stated earlier, I wanted to experience the class on more of an individual level, rather than with
a group. From taking this course in general, on top of choosing the warrior pathway, I have honestly
definitely gained a better understanding of mobile technology as a whole, and I am overly ecstatic that I
got to experience this alone, because I learn better when I am alone. Throughout the course, I did not
change my learning pathway, or even had to second guess it. I am a people person, but in this particular
class I felt as if I would learn better if I worked alone so that I could experience everything, and all the
information that was being offered alone. I also did not want to have to rely on others, because some
people, but not all, do not like to meet deadlines in a timely manner.

3. Overall I think that the social networking activities helped me to gain a better understanding of
how to use social technology to learn educationally. The many activities that were offered within the
class opened my eyes to new ways to use social networking in an educational way. This class has
introduced me to social networking sites that I have never seen or heard of before; especially on the
predict, use and evaluate forms. Overall this social networking quest has taught me that social
networking is not just about socializing online, you can also use it educationally, and it can be just as
equally fun.

4. The first social technology I explored for learning is social bookmarking. While social
bookmarking you realize that everyone has a different learning style or preference so you will get a
variety of responses from different people. For me, social bookmarking is very helpful for my learning
preference because I am typically a visual learner; and social bookmarking contains a lot of pictures and
words. I love to read, that is how I learn best, and I also love to look at pictures as well. It doesn’t matter
the topic you are bookmarking about, there are all kinds of pictures to support the detailed text in which
you are bookmarking about. I enjoyed using delicious.com to do social bookmarking, because it was so
easy to use.
The second social technology I explored for learning is the massively multiplayer online games
quest; specifically the cell cycle game, because it was recommended to me by my brother who is also
taking this class with me. While exploring the game, I like how it a lot of animation, and at each
segment they explained what was happening at each stage of the cycle. Overall, I really enjoyed playing
this game because it involved a lot of interaction and it provided a lot of information. The cell cycle
game is a lot of fun, and I would definitely recommend it to somebody because I think it is awesome.
This social technology accommodated my visual learning preference. It helped accommodate my visual
learning preference because it included a lot of animation throughout the game, as well as a lot of
words.
The last social technology I explored is the social networking. Through the social networking
quest I learned how to collaborate and learn from my classmates using facebook groups. For one of my
classes this semester this tool helped me work with my classmates, and I found out that creating a group
on facebook is very helpful. Creating the group allowed me to write on the group page wall, and
everyone was able to see it, rather than having to send multiple text messages or having to post on
everyone’s facebook walls a million times. This was definitely accommodating to my visual learning
preference because my group would always post examples and other pictures relating to what we’re
talking about. I am not completely sure if this can also fall under the active group as well, because this
was in fact a group setting, and everyone was engaged and participating. Overall, I learned that I am
learning how to open up to working in groups because the people in your group sometimes can help
you comprehend what you guys are reading or working on better than your teacher or professor

5. The social technology that helped and interested me the most is the social networking quest
because I was able to use facebook, which a website that I utilize on a daily basis and that was fun. I
found it good to find out some helpful things I can use academically on facebook. From the many
different forums, I learned that facebook allows you to create a group. I never knew that facebook
allows you to do this, and I am overly excited and interested in what facebook will do next. The social
technology that did not seem to work as a helpful learning tool is social bookmarking. I overall, did not
enjoy doing social bookmarking, and it was not of any use to me. I would love to explore social
networking more, because I am always on facebook any free chance that I get, so why not learn how to
use it academically.
The learning preference that worked best for my learning preference was social networking.
This particular learning preference worked best because I was already interested in facebook, so it was
even more interesting to me to learn that I can use facebook on an educational level. I love the fact that
you can create groups on facebook, because this helped me a lot toward the end of the semester. My
group and I would upload pictures of the different cells we had to learn about it biology and then talk
about them, and this was really helpful to me because I am a visual learner.

6. Taking this specific class this semester has helped me improve in my other classes here at SFSU. I will not
only be using these helpful learning strategies that I learned from this class at school, but I will also be
utilizing them in my workplace as well. I will definitely take what I have learned so far and continue to
use them productively when it comes to my schoolwork. I can honestly say that I have learned a lot
about the different social technologies as well as how to use them educationally, and I will be using
more of them from now on. For starters, I can definitely see myself creating more groups on facebook,
because I found that very useful this semester. I definitely am looking forward to extending my learning
skills and my learning preferences throughout my future upcoming classes, thank you for all that you
have taught me about social technologies.
The social technology that I will continue using after this class is social networking because it is
interesting and I find myself wanting to learn more and more about it every day. This social technology
can be useful when I am outside of school because I can create different groups to be able to
communicate with my classmates from school easier and faster. The social technology that I will avoid
using is social bookmarking, because I am not really interested in that. Social bookmarking doesn’t strike
me as being interesting at all, and it is not as fun as social networking.
