Ethics in Practice
This activity aims for the students to determine wrong acts or doings with the use of school
technologies.
Below are the different situations in the use of school technologies. Place yourself in each of the
situation and internalize on the action you will do to solve the issues.
1. You as a teacher have purchased educational software for use in your class. Your
colleague who is teaching the same subject borrows the purchased software and later
installs the software in her own computer without your knowledge. You are aware that
what she did was against the law. What will you do with this situation?
I will tell him/her calmly that what he/she had done was wrong in the code of
ethics in computer. In that way, I can also inform him/her the proper use of
the computer and the corresponding ethics for it. I will also tell him/her
where did I bought that educational software.
2. You instruct your students that whenever in the computer laboratory, internet access will
be allowed for educational purposes only. However, three of your students accessed the
internet for downloading of internet games and play while you discuss the lesson. What
will you do with these three students? What will you suggest to the school heads to limit
the access of downloading internet games?
I will tell them that what they did is wrong and it is against the computer
laboratory rules and regulations. I will order them to uninstall it and listen to
what we are discussing. I will suggest to the school head to block the sites
that is not related to education because it directs the attention and focus of
the students in these sites.
3. You (as a student) are aware that one of your classmates is being cyber bullied by some
of your classmates. The victim is losing her self –confidence and self-esteem due to the
3. cyber bullying experiences. What will you do to help the victim and to stop cyber
bullying?
I will report it to the management of the social media. Because they have the
access to analyze what was going on with the account of an individual. I will
report it to delete whether it is a picture or a comment, and request to
suspend of the account of the bully. I will also tell my classmate to lessen the
use of the computer instead study more to get higher grades.
4. While the class is busy doing their activity in the computer laboratory, you were
requested by your teacher to ask the computer laboratory technician to assist in
troubleshooting the computer unit. As you approached the technician, you saw that he
was watching a malicious movie. The technician then immediately stopped the movie and
told you to just stay quiet. You are aware that it is against the policy of the school. What
will you do with this situation? Will you really just keep quiet like what the technician
has told you?
I will tell it to the school head because it is against the school rules and
regulation in the use of the internet in the school. Because the rules should
not be applied on students only but with the teachers and personnel of the
school. They should be a model to the students in order to not let the students
copy what they are doing. And it also lessens the internet speed of the whole
computer lab and it consumes more internet data, it should be given to the
students because we pay for the internet in the school.
