My Learning Episode Overview
Episode 3 provides an opportunity for me to examine how classrooms are
structured or designed to allow everyone’s maximum participation and effective
learning. I will be able to examine how classroom management practices affect learning.
My Intended Learning outcomes
In this episode, I must be able to plan on how to manage time, space, and resources
to provide a learning environment appropriate to the learners and conducive to
learning.
My Performance Criteria
 quality of my observation and documentation,
 completeness and depth of analysis,
 depth and clarity of classroom observation-based reflection,
 completeness, organization, clarity of portfolio and
 time of submission of portfolio.
My Learning Essentials
The classroom climate that is conducive for learning is one that is non-threatening
yet business-like. It is a classroom where:
 Specific classroom rules and procedures are clear.
 Classroom rules and procedures are discussed within the few days of the
school.
 Students are involved in the design of rules and procedures
 Techniques to acknowledge and reinforce acceptable behavior are employed
 Clear limits for unacceptable behavior are established and negative
consequences for such are communicated
 Classroom process are democratic

My Map
To realize my Intended Learning Outcomes, I will work my way
through these steps:
Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3
Observe a class.
Using a checklist, find out the
evident classroom
components.
Describe how the classroom is
structured/designed to allow
everyone to participate in the
learning activities.
Relate the data in your checklist
to the learners’ behavior.
Reflect on how classroom
management affects learning
My Tools
Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations.
An Observation Guide for the learners’ Characteristics
Read the following statements carefully. Then write your
observation report on the provided space.
1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners.
Note their ages.
2. How many boys are there? How many girls are there?
3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own
behavior?
4. Can the learners already work independently?
5. Describe their span of attention.
6. Look inti their listening skills and ability to concern.
Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3
Name of the School Observed: Governor Ferrer Memorial National
Highschool - Buenavista Annex
Location of the School: Buenavista 2, General Trias, Cavite
Date of Visit: July 29,2015
1. Some of the students are noisy while the teacher is discussing their lesson, but
most of the students are listening. They are 14-15 years old.
2. There are 24 boys and 23 girls.
3. As senior students in their school, most of the students can manage their
behavior but some of them cannot control their noise.
4. Most of the students are still depending their answer with their seatmates.
5. The students exert more patience especially when their teacher is discussing
their lesson.
6. They listen very well to their teachers’ discussion.
Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3
An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT
Be guided by these questions as you do your observation classroom
management. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information, so you
can verify your observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data
in the table that follows.
1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids,
books, students’ belongings, supplies, etc.)? Describe these areas.
 There are some books located at the back and they are arranged properly. They
also have chalk box in the front beside the table.
2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room? List them down.
 Wear your foot socks.
 Cleaners of the Day.
3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules? If yes, and the
resource teachers is available, ask him/her to describe the process.
 Their teacher said that most of the students are following the rules but some of
the students are not. For those who are not following the rules based on her,
she gave punishment for those students.
4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance,
assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How they are done?
 The teacher started the classes by the opening prayer that is done by the prayer
leader, to be followed by greetings from the teacher and the students. Next is
the attendance that is reported by the group leaders and the discussion part.
5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?
 The students are seated by group and they are alternate boys, and girls.
Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3
6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?
 While the teacher is discussing, there are only soft noise come from the
students because most of the students are listening.
7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher do?
Describe the behavior strategies use.
 While the teacher is discussing and the students is too noisy, she will stop the
discussion and after the few seconds the students are quiet.
8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviors? (behavior strategies)
 The teacher reinforces the learners by giving a positive feedback to students
answers.
In every class, there are students that a teacher cannot easily get the attention
while discussing specially when they are bored and there are some distractions on
them. So as a teacher, you need to think more activities and you need to be
energetic in class so you will get your students’ attention.
Write your
Observation

Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3
Aspect of Classroom
Management
Description Effect on learners
(to be filled up after you answer the
analysis questions)
1. Specific Areas in the
Classroom
 The areas in the classroom
are well organized.
 The effect on the learners is
that they will be easy to locate
their different instruments they
needed such as books and all
other materials.
2. Classroom Rules  The classroom rules are
reminded by the teacher in
every point of time.
 The effect on the learners is
that they will be reminded of the
rules so that they will not do any
kind of act to oppose any of
these.
3. Classroom Procedures  The teacher starts a little talk
before the class discussion on
the subject matter.
 The effect on the learners is
that the students will feel at ease

Field study 1 episode 3

  • 1. My Learning Episode Overview Episode 3 provides an opportunity for me to examine how classrooms are structured or designed to allow everyone’s maximum participation and effective learning. I will be able to examine how classroom management practices affect learning. My Intended Learning outcomes In this episode, I must be able to plan on how to manage time, space, and resources to provide a learning environment appropriate to the learners and conducive to learning. My Performance Criteria  quality of my observation and documentation,  completeness and depth of analysis,  depth and clarity of classroom observation-based reflection,  completeness, organization, clarity of portfolio and  time of submission of portfolio. My Learning Essentials The classroom climate that is conducive for learning is one that is non-threatening yet business-like. It is a classroom where:  Specific classroom rules and procedures are clear.  Classroom rules and procedures are discussed within the few days of the school.  Students are involved in the design of rules and procedures  Techniques to acknowledge and reinforce acceptable behavior are employed  Clear limits for unacceptable behavior are established and negative consequences for such are communicated  Classroom process are democratic Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3 FS 1 FIELD STUDY Learning Episode
  • 2. My Map To realize my Intended Learning Outcomes, I will work my way through these steps: Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3 Observe a class. Using a checklist, find out the evident classroom components. Describe how the classroom is structured/designed to allow everyone to participate in the learning activities. Relate the data in your checklist to the learners’ behavior. Reflect on how classroom management affects learning
  • 3. My Tools Use the activity form provided for you to document your observations. An Observation Guide for the learners’ Characteristics Read the following statements carefully. Then write your observation report on the provided space. 1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their ages. 2. How many boys are there? How many girls are there? 3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own behavior? 4. Can the learners already work independently? 5. Describe their span of attention. 6. Look inti their listening skills and ability to concern. Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3 Name of the School Observed: Governor Ferrer Memorial National Highschool - Buenavista Annex Location of the School: Buenavista 2, General Trias, Cavite Date of Visit: July 29,2015 1. Some of the students are noisy while the teacher is discussing their lesson, but most of the students are listening. They are 14-15 years old. 2. There are 24 boys and 23 girls. 3. As senior students in their school, most of the students can manage their behavior but some of them cannot control their noise. 4. Most of the students are still depending their answer with their seatmates. 5. The students exert more patience especially when their teacher is discussing their lesson. 6. They listen very well to their teachers’ discussion.
  • 4. Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3 An Observation Guide for the CLASSROOM VISIT Be guided by these questions as you do your observation classroom management. It is also good to ask the teacher for additional information, so you can verify your observation. Write your notes below; and then organize your data in the table that follows. 1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids, books, students’ belongings, supplies, etc.)? Describe these areas.  There are some books located at the back and they are arranged properly. They also have chalk box in the front beside the table. 2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the room? List them down.  Wear your foot socks.  Cleaners of the Day. 3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules? If yes, and the resource teachers is available, ask him/her to describe the process.  Their teacher said that most of the students are following the rules but some of the students are not. For those who are not following the rules based on her, she gave punishment for those students. 4. What are the daily routines done by the teacher? (prayer, attendance, assignment of monitors, warm-up activities, etc.) How they are done?  The teacher started the classes by the opening prayer that is done by the prayer leader, to be followed by greetings from the teacher and the students. Next is the attendance that is reported by the group leaders and the discussion part. 5. Is there a seating arrangement? What is the basis of this arrangement?  The students are seated by group and they are alternate boys, and girls.
  • 5. Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3 6. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How is this managed?  While the teacher is discussing, there are only soft noise come from the students because most of the students are listening. 7. If a learner is not following instructions or is off-task, what does the teacher do? Describe the behavior strategies use.  While the teacher is discussing and the students is too noisy, she will stop the discussion and after the few seconds the students are quiet. 8. What does the teacher do to reinforce positive behaviors? (behavior strategies)  The teacher reinforces the learners by giving a positive feedback to students answers. In every class, there are students that a teacher cannot easily get the attention while discussing specially when they are bored and there are some distractions on them. So as a teacher, you need to think more activities and you need to be energetic in class so you will get your students’ attention. Write your Observation Notes here:
  • 6. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT MATRIX Classroom Management and Learning | LEARNING EPISODE 3 Aspect of Classroom Management Description Effect on learners (to be filled up after you answer the analysis questions) 1. Specific Areas in the Classroom  The areas in the classroom are well organized.  The effect on the learners is that they will be easy to locate their different instruments they needed such as books and all other materials. 2. Classroom Rules  The classroom rules are reminded by the teacher in every point of time.  The effect on the learners is that they will be reminded of the rules so that they will not do any kind of act to oppose any of these. 3. Classroom Procedures  The teacher starts a little talk before the class discussion on the subject matter.  The effect on the learners is that the students will feel at ease and more comfortable with the class. 4. Daily Routines  The teacher starts the class with a prayer then a review of the discussion they discussed last time.  The effect on the learners is that their last discussion will be refreshed in the mind of the learners. 5. Seating Arrangement  The students seated by group and they alternate boys and girls.  The effect on the learners is that they will be able to socialize with the opposite sex role. 6. Handling misbehavior/off- task behavior  The teacher gives precise disciplinary action to the student if they make a particular mistake.  The effect on the learners is that they will be able to know their limitations and become aware of behaving inside the class. 7. Reinforcement of positive behavior  The teacher gives acknowledgment to every student that will do positive behavior and excellence in the class.  The effect on the students is that they will be able to strive hard to be excellent in class
