3.  The CPCB is a multi-disciplinary technical organization of Ministry of
Environment & Forest (MoEF) plays the role of an advisor and
coordinator of the State Boards.
 Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has been originally created
under Section 3 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution)
Act, 1974 with the main function to promote cleanliness of streams
and wells in the different areas of the States.

areas of the States through prevention, control and abatement of
water pollution

5.  To improve quality of air in the country through prevention,
control and abatement of air pollution.

6.  Advise the central government on any matter concerning

the quality of surface waters and air.

13.  A State Pollution Control Board was constituted under section
4 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act,
1974 and under section 5 of the Air (Prevention and Control
of Pollution) Act, 1981

prevention and control of water and air pollution.
 Plan and execute programs for the prevention, control or abatement
of water and air pollution in the state.

prevention, control and abatement of water or air pollution in
collaboration with the Central Board

16.  To perform any function entrusted by central Board or state
government
 The Board may establish or recognize a laboratory or laboratories
to enable the Board to perform its functions under this section
efficiently, including the analysis of samples of water from any stream
or well or of samples of any sewage or trade effluents.

industry which is likely to pollute a stream or well
