2. The main purpose of a poster is to establish a
promotion for a film. So the main part of creating a
poster is to make sure that it will be effective in
getting the audiences interest. Audience feedback of
the poster was very positive and the main aspects
about the poster they liked were the special editing
effects in the main image of the poster. The most
notable editing that was undertaken was the insertion
of a shadow of an unknown person and the
colourisation of the blood splattered cricket bad. I
feel that this creates mystery and ambiguity about the
events in the film, so when combined with the film
trailer I feel that this works well in establishing that
there is a dark side to the storyline in the film. The
release date at the bottom of the film is highlighted in
a blood red colour, which increased the readers
attention to it. This alongside the date shown in the
trailer makes the radar more aware of the realise of
the film. The tagline “WHEN THEY COME, WILL YOU
RUN OR WILL YOU FIGHT?” I feel increases a potential
viewers interest dramatically. This posers a direct
question to an onlooker and questions what they will
do in a similar situation the character faces.
3. The main promotion of the film lies in the splash of
the magazine. “The Deprived” is in the same font as
the trailer and the poster, this was done in order to
create a type of brand with the font more associated
with the film. So when people see the Dead Kansas
font they are likely to think of the film. Underneath
the splash, there is a cover line with the words “WILL
KEARSE – THE NEW LIAM NEESON”. By associating a
fairly unknown actor to an actor like Liam Neeson
makes the audience know what type of character Will
Kearse is. The other promotional aspect of the film is
the main image of the actor. The image creates the
persona of a quite a quiet person in nature, but as an
actor he is quite the contrary. With the blood swirl
effect in the background this creates a type of
potential bad boy in which the actor is known for.
This also points out to the type of role the actor will
be playing in the film. The magazine is known for
being “TEENEAGER BIGGEST FILM MAGAZINE”. So as
the magazine being targeted towards teenagers, this
fits in with the younger target audience that the film
is targeting.
4. The trailer it self is a complete
promotional device but there is only
a few parts of the trailer that
actually incorporate any information
about the films release etc. The first
part of the trailer that includes a
promotional device is at the end.
The title of the film, release date
and billing block all feature at the
end of the film. This is done to make
sure the audience remember the
film and its release date. There is
also a twitter hash tag at the bottom
of the billing block which can be
used by audience members to learn
more about the film on a multi
platform basis. There is also a
website address for anyone willing to
look at more information about the
film.
5. In conclusion, I feel that all three
promotional devices of the film was a great
success. I feel that establishing visible links
between all three mediums of promotion, I
was able to create a type of branding for my
film. In terms of success; I feel that the
trailer was the strongest part of the
promotional process as there was 3 people
working on one project, despite this I feel
that the individual projects that were
undertaken were also successful in creating
mystery and style to the film.
