The UN Convention on the Law of the Sea is being repeatedly weakened by
arbitrary interpretation of its definition by some nations, said Defence Minister
AIR FORCE TO UPGRADE RAFALE
FIGHTER FLEET FROM JAN 2022
Having already received around 30 Rafale com-
bat aircraft from France, the Indian Air Force
would start upgrading its fleet of French-origin
fighters from January 2022, with India-specific en-
hancements. “A high-level team of Indian Air Force
officers is in France to evaluate the performance
of the testbed aircraft with tail number RB-008
at the Istres airbase there. The aircraft has been
equipped with all the India Specific Enhancements
agreed upon between the two sides in the 2016
contract,” government sources told ANI.
Mumbai: Taking a dig
at China, Defence Min-
ister Rajnath Singh on
Sunday said “some ir-
responsible nations”
with their narrow par-
tisan interests and he-
gemonic tendencies are
coming up with wrong
definitions of the UN
Convention on the Law
of the Sea (UNCLOS).
It is a matter of con-
cern that UNCLOS is
being repeatedly weak-
ened by arbitrary inter-
pretation of its defini-
tion by some nations,
Mr Singh said, after
commissioning of In-
dian Navy’s destroyer
Visakhapatnam.
“Some irresponsible
nations, with their nar-
row partisan interests,
hegemonic tendencies
are coming with wrong
definitions of interna-
tional laws,” Mr Singh
said. Indigenously-built
stealth guided missile
destroyer Visakhapat-
nam, packed with an ar-
ray of missiles and anti-
submarine rockets, was
commissioned in pres-
ence of top naval com-
manders.
‘Visakhapatnam’ is
equipped with weapons
and sensors, including
supersonic surface-to-

Jaipur: With merely 24
months left for the po-
litical climate to change
in Rajasthan and as-
sembly elections take
place for 2023, the Con-
gress High Command
directed its ‘soldiers’ to
invest in the ‘mantra’ :
Unity. And like the ma-
triarch of the party - So-
nia Gandhi - directed,
the party leaders put a
grand show of unity on
Sunday wherein Chief
Minister Ashok Gehlot
went one step forward
and included 5 mem-
bers from Pilot’s camp
into his cabinet, includ-
ing 3 cabinet and 2 MoS
berths. Reciprocating
on the same, Sachin Pi-
lot, who was at logger-
heads with Gehlot till a
year back, came out in
full support of the gov-
ernment and even
mixed with the Gehlot
camp leaders like there
was no love lost, ever.
And it is this unity, on
the basis of which the
Congress party hopes to
bring a dent in BJP’s
fortunes and form gov-
ernment in 2023, an
idea on which both the
camps agree upon!
Rajasthan Chief Min-
ister Ashok Gehlot, on
Sunday, said that the
Congresspartywillonce
againemergevictorious
in the 2023 assembly
polls in Rajasthan and
form the government.
His remarks came as 15
MLAs took oath as min-
isters in the Rajasthan
government on Sunday
.
“We will all unite and
take the policy

and programmes of
Congresstothecommon
people under the leader-
ship of Sonia Gandhi
and Rahul Gandhi and
win the 2023 assembly
polls on the issue of de-
velopment and form the

Gehlot in a tweet. In an-
other tweet, he wished

day and said that the
government has provid-
ed sensitive, transpar-
ent,accountablegovern-
ance to the people and

cumstances.
“During our term,
people have put a stamp
of approval on our gov-
ernance by giving vic-
tory to the Congress
party in various by-elec-
tions and local bodies
elections. We all have to
maintain this trust of
the public in the times
to come. For this, the
work has to be contin-
ued with full hard work
and dedication,” he add-
ed in another tweet.

LOYALTY PAYS, MAHESH JOSHI
IS NOW CABINET MINISTER!
Aditi Nagar
They say being loyal to a leader will someday place
you good. And the shining example of an unrelent-
ing loyalty, whether the times are good
or bad, is former Chief Whip Mahesh
Joshi, who was inducted in Gehlot’s
cabinet on Sunday. Joshi, who is known
to be a trusted lieutenant of Gehlot, is
also one of Gehlot’s staunch supporters
and his ‘Man Friday’. Over the years,
Joshi has proved his worth both politically and as an
asset to the party and therefore, gehlot too trusts him.

INTERNAL STRIFE WILL
MAR CONGRESS: RAMLAL
First India Bureau
Jaipur: After the Cabi-
net reshuffle, the BJP
said differences are al-
ready visible and that
the internal strife in
the Congress govern-
ment will come to the
fore in the coming
times. Out of 13 inde-

single MLA has been
made a minister be-
cause of which they
are sad.
Of the six MLAs who
joined Congress from
BSP, only one MLA has
been made minister. Ig-
noring the senior
MLAs may cost the
Congress in the coming
days.
State BJP chief
spokesperson and MLA
Ramlal Sharma said
that Johri Lal Meena’s
statement came after
Chief Minister Ashok
Gehlot’s cabinet re-
shuffle and he has ex-
pressed displeasure.
“Sachin Pilot’s advice
to the Congress to unite
is a sham,” he said.
Ramlal said neglect-
ing senior leaders will
cost the Congress.

According to police

were to travel together on
cruise hence they were
linked. As there was no med-
ical examination done the
court also trashed argument
that the accused had admit-
ted to drug consumption.
With so many loopholes in
its charge-sheet and so many
doubts being raised about the
NCB’s intentions in arrest-
ing the trio has left the NCB’s
credibility badly eroded. Af-
ter Rhea Chakraborty this is
the second major NCB case to
have fallen flat. What the
NCB may have achieved is
traumatizing the three
youngsters and tarnishing
their image.

CLIMATE CLIMAX: AN
INCONVENIENT TRUTH
conomic growth has always
been the niche target of the
socio-economic agenda. The
mechanics of this inconven-
ient truth is simple: higher
economic activity tends to go
hand in hand with additional
social power. Therefore, pow-
er balance hanged for long on
the cents minted by econom-
ic progress. Although,
through this quest energy
and natural resource con-
sumption went off the charts.
This also led the climate to
push its boundaries beyond
its capacity. It has been pro-
posed that land temperatures
are rising faster than before.
Other natural resources such
as water, clean air, and the
never-ending list of products
that the human race requires
to sustain are getting closer
to the red zone. Climate
change is an unavoidable
consequence when the green-
house effect is affected. With
which the average tempera-
ture of the planet would not
be suitable for living. This
increase in global tempera-
ture increase brings disas-
trous results from melting of
the ice mass to vanishing
some parts of the land alto-
gether through the high rise
of water.
Global warming quivers
everyone’s food and water se-
curity. In many parts of the
world, crops that have sur-
vived effortlessly for centu-
ries are struggling to survive,
making food stability more
inadequate. Disasters linked
to climate and weather ex-
tremes have always been part
of our Earth’s system. But
they are becoming more fre-
quent and intense as the
world warms. No continent is
left untouched, with heat-
waves, droughts, typhoons,
and hurricanes causing mass
destructionaroundtheworld,
the climate issue is becoming
more and more urgent.
If we reflect, humans have
negatively influenced the
natural climatic balance of
and around the earth. From
burning coal, gas, and cutting
down trees to increasing live-
stock farming many factors
contribute to this change. In
the past few years, European
countries have experienced
record heat waves that are
unnatural to the climatic con-
ditions. Floods were also part
of the trail. These are all
signs that the capacity of our
planet to fight back the im-
posed threats is decreasing
with every passing day and
soon we will run out of time.
These are all climate change
indicators. We assume that
the melting ice in the Arctic
is way too far from us to
throw its negative spell but
what we fail to notice is how
this melting ice, as a result of
climate change is gradually
contributing massively to the
rising sea level that results
further in floods in the part
of the world where it is more
unlikely to occur. This is a
real concern for those living
in low-lying coastal areas. We
are currently facing the
worst-case scenario of the cli-
mate change emergency and
its environmental deteriora-
tion effects. The large-scale
measurements should be
taken care of by the govern-
mental institutions of the
world to withhold this inevi-
table threat to the survival of
the human race and other
forms of life. At the same
time, individual efforts
should not be belittled while
every step matters.
The youth of today’s world
plays a crucial role in it as
they are a vital segment of
our society
. They are the by-
standers of the change and
extinctions. They are perhaps
more aware than any other
lot. Each one of them can help
curtail global warming. We
all make choices and if we
make them more consciously
we can influence the climate
positively
. We can promote
theyouthtoadheretosustain-
able life practices which are
environment friendly such as
using a bike more, generating
less waste, or maybe recoup-
ing the source of energy at
home and to dwell more upon
the solar energy
. However
small these steps seem to be
they are very mighty and can
lead the unprecedented
change and reverse the cli-
mate crisis. The changes the
young people will make in
their lifestyle would contrib-
ute to the positive steering of
climate change.
A common problem, whose
consequence everyone will
bear, needs collective effort
from everyone. To achieve
the profound reduction in
greenhouse gas emissions
required to cope with the cli-
mate crisis, the world there-
fore basically needs to pon-
der upon this inevitable dis-
aster more determinedly
. On
the one hand, we are worry-
ing unremittingly, how our
generation Z will cope with
the struggles of life, on the
other hand, we are letting the
thought fall between the
cracks how the coming gen-
erations will survive with
this speed of climate change.
We need to be more aware
that this debate about cli-
mate is not theoretical, it’s
very real and unfortunately
more urgent than any other
progressive docket.

New Delhi: The Union
government is said to
be toying with the idea
to make some sort of
‘combat training’ (CT)
part of the curriculum
for new recruits to All
India services and cen-
tral services during
their training at the Lal
Bahadur Shastri Na-
tional Academy of Ad-
ministration (LBS-
NAA), Mussoorie.
Since CT is not a
one-time affair as it
has to be constantly
practiced to keep one
agile and versatile in
the art, it’s not known
how the government
may execute this new
idea, or at least popu-
larize it among new
recruits to turn them
into believers.
It is being said that
the course for CT is al-
ready defined and it
may be included as
part of the physical
training very soon that
includes horse-riding,
mountain trekking,
river rafting, etc.
The credit for this
‘innovative’ idea is giv-
en to PM Narendra
Modi himself, while
NSA Ajit Doval is cred-
ited with expounding
the idea in the public.
Addressing the passing
out parade of IPS offic-
ers (Dikshant Sa-
maroh) at SVP Nation-
al Police Academy
(SVP NPA), Hyderabad,
last week, he obliquely
referred to an old Kau-
tilyan doctrine, and
spoke of enemy nations
can ‘subvert civil soci-
ety’ to hurt India. Does
this mean CT for civil-
ian officers helps check
the subversion of civil
society? How?
Since its re-arrival in
2014 and continuation
in 2019, the NDA ad-
ministration has been
keenly pushing several
projects to improve the
administrative culture
by way of introduction
of 360-degree evalua-
tion and assessment
process, accelerated
pace and weightage for
lateral entry of domain
experts, a revamped
foundation course for
trainees, a proposed
university and deliber-
ations on a separate
ministry for training,
posting the IAS proba-
tioners at Centre before
joining respective cad-
res, etc.
Recent decisions on
re-appointing top offi-
cials in key depart-
ments on a contract
basis, forced retire-
ment of “tainted” offic-
ers, increase in the ten-
ures of ED, CBI, RAW,
Defence Secretary
Home Secretary are
also claimed as moves
to create a better and
efficient administra-
tion.
Whatever the merits
or demerits of these in-
novative processes in-
troduced in the admin-
istration, we have not
been given empirical
evidence of how, and to
what degree, these
measures have helped
improve the govern-
ment’s efficiency index.

that the ‘winds of
change’ are here.
There is a strong
murmur in the ‘saf-
fron circle’ that ‘New
Delhi’ may really be
rethinking on the
name of two time
Chief Minister ‘Mad-
ame Vasundhara Raje’
in the backdrop of 2023
elections.
Initially there were
reports that the high
command was miffed
with ‘Madam’ but now
maybe the situation is
slowly changing be-
cause in spite of all the
efforts over the past
three years, no effec-
tive alternative to
Madam has coming to
the fore, yet. This ques-
tion has become more
serious due to the de-
feat of BJP in the last
two by-elections.
In the past, know-
ingly or unknowingly,
former state president
Ashok Parnami had
given indications in
Banswara, of the next
assembly election to be
fought under the lead-
ership of Raje and al-
though the top leader-
ship had expressed
some displeasure over
this statement, not
much was done.
According to sources,
both JP Nadda and
Arun Singh are push-
ing Madam’s ‘candida-
ture’ in front of the
high command and BL
Santosh also has a keen
eye on the situation in
Rajasthan but until the
‘situation’ does not be-
come ‘better’ at the level
of Narendra Modi and
Amit Shah, till then all
these things are just po-
litical speculations.
In the midst of all
this atmosphere, Raje
is now going on a three
day tour to Udaipur
and Banswara from 23
November till 25 No-
vember. The nature of
the trip is non-political
but it is bound to at-
tract impressive crowd
around Raje.

Known for his maturity and simple demeanour, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has

was also boarding the flight. When Scindia saw the elderly struggling, he came ahead
to help and holding the wheelchair, started pushing it ahead. He ensured that the elderly
boarded the flight properly and that he sat comfortably.

Johri Lal Meena had expressed displeasure over Jully being made Cabinet min

after the swearing-in ceremony, Ola reached
Marriot Hotel accompanying state incharge Ajay
Maken and PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasra.
The trio held a long discussion behind closed

pleased with the induction in the cabinet. Ola has
raised the point that a two-time MLA has been
appointed as cabinet minister while a four time

MRUNMAYI BARVE,THE SECOND RUNNER UP OF FIRST MISS INDIATEEN 2021 HELD
AT NOVOTEL, GOA ON OCT 30’21, GETS CANDID ABOUT HER JOURNEY AND FUTURE
ASPIRATIONS WITH AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH CITY FIRST!
nother name for ele-
gance,MrunmayiBarve
was born to conquer the
stage. A girl who leaves
love, kindness and gen-
erosity in her wake, this
crowned queen is the
definition of hard work. From
wearing makeup that perfectly
accentuates her features to her
humdinger personality, Mrun-
mayi is all set to charm the
ramps. Here’s Mrunmayi in a
tête-à-tête with City First.
How did it feel to wear the
crown as one of the finalists of
First Miss Teen India?
It was a sheer symbol of all the
hard work paying off. Winning
the crown of second runner up
of First Miss Teen India is the
best accessory I have.
What was the most challeng-
ing part of the competition?
To put myself up on the stage to
narrate the story about abuse. I
was taught to wear my wounds
as my badges. And so I trans-
formed myself as the girl with a
sword, dancing proudly on the
poem about sexual abuse and
fighting with my fears.
How was your homecoming?
Homecoming for me was a jour-
ney of joyous moments. “There
is surely no greater joy than see-
ing the shimmer in your parents’
eyes.” And perhaps, the home-
coming was like a warm hug af-
ter the shivering cold nights.
What positive changes can
you bring forth with this
platform?
With the help of this platform,
I would encourage more peo-
ple to speak up about their trau-
mas and promote mental health
on a huge scale.
What are your academic goals?
A: My aim in life is to join the
Indian Foreign Services.

JAIPUR, MONDAY
NOVEMBER 22, 2021
reating diabetes
is an art, in addi-
tion to aiming at
controlling sugar
values prevent-
ing complications
now REVERSAL
OF DIABETES is a new
concept.
Reversing diabetes is a
term that usually refers to
a significant long-term
good sugar control in peo-
ple with type 2 diabetes.
People with type 2 diabetes
that are able to get their
HbA1c below 6 gm% with-
out taking diabetes medi-
cation are said to have re-
versed or resolved their
diabetes. Although there’s
no cure for type 2 diabetes,
however, it’s possible for
some people to reverse it.
Through diet changes and
weight loss, the patient
may be able to reach and
hold normal blood sugar
levels without medication.
The key to reversing dia-
betes seems to be weight
loss. Sometimes losing
enough weight could help
to live diabetes-free; espe-
cially if a patient had the
disease for a few years and
haven’t needed insulin.
With time and dedication,
type 2 diabetes can be re-
versed and the results can
be very rewarding, with
less tiredness and better
all-round health.
Research indicates that
effective ways to reverse
diabetes include:
 Low-carbohydrate diet
 Very low-calorie diets
 Exercise
 Bariatric surgery
 Fasting
In type 2 diabetes there
is insulin resistance as
compared to insulin defi-
ciency. Insulin resistance
is responsible for hyper-
glycemia. In a normal per-
son, insulin increases the
uptake of carbohydrates
in the liver, muscles, and
other target organs. In
obese person as a conse-
quence of high visceral
and subcutaneous fat dep-
osition, insulin does not
work efficiently at the tar-
get site to lower blood lev-
els of glucose. The key
point for reversal of diabe-
tes is to reduce this vis-
ceral and subcutaneous fat
by a low-calorie diet, exer-
cise, bariatric surgery,
fasting etc.
LOW-CARBOHYDRATE DIETS
Low-carbohydrate diets
are known for lowering
the amount of insulin the
body needs to produce, re-
sulting in less insulin re-
sistance. A study showed
that a low-carbohydrate
Mediterranean diet was
able to achieve significant
rates of remission in peo-
ple with type 2 diabetes.
High blood sugar levels
destroy the insulin-secret-
ing pancreatic beta cells
which further aggravate
hyperglycaemia.
VERY LOW-CALORIE DIET
Very-low-calorie diets
(VLCD) have been shown
to achieve significant
weight loss, reduce insulin
resistance and allow peo-
ple with type 2 diabetes to
come off their
diabetes medi-
cation.
A study
showed that an
8-week 800 kcal
per day diet was
able to achieve re-
mission from dia-
betes in nearly 65%
of patients with type 2
diabetes. The reversal of
diabetes appeared to be
correlated with signifi-
cant reductions in fat stor-
age within the liver and
pancreas. A VLCD is re-
garded as an extreme form
of diet and therefore
should be undertaken
with care.
This type of diet is ex-
treme. It means working
with a professional and be-
ing very controlled with
how many calories be eat-
en by the patient. But the
chance that it could send
into remission may give a
strong motivation to stick
to it. It’s important to get
started on a weight-loss
plan as soon as diagnosed.
EXERCISE
More physical activity is a
way to improve diabetes,
but it may be tough to lose
enough weight to go into
remission with workouts
alone. A modest, lower-
calorie diet plus a big step-
up in burning calories
could put on the path to
remission.
A study showed that
people aim for 10,000 steps
a day and at least 2 1/2
hours of moderate exer-
cise a week along with cut-
ting 500-750 calories a day
and following specific in-
sulin and medication rou-
tine saw more than half of
them reach near-normal
blood sugar without medi-
cation. It’s the weight loss
that really matters. Exer-
cise can help to get there
but expect to change the
diet as well.
BARIATRIC SURGERY
This type of surgery helps
to lose weight by changing
the stomach and digestive
system to lim-
it how much the patient
can eat. Aside from helping
to lose weight, it may help
reverse diabetes in other
ways, although scientists
don’t yet know exactly why
.
One theory is that it affects
the hormones in the gut to
help control blood glucose.
The efficacy of type 2 dia-
betes reversal depends on
the choice of procedure,
there is unilateral im-
provement in glycemia fol-
lowing the operation, and
bariatric surgery has been
found to be superior to in-
tensive type 2 diabetes
medical management. Re-
searchers estimate that
upwards of three-quarters
of people see their diabetes
reversed after bariatric
surgery. Gastric bypass
and gastric sleeve surgery
have better long-term re-
sults than gastric banding.
Bariatric surgery is gener-
ally an option only when
BMI is 35 or higher.
FASTING
Fasting can
be a practical
way to lose weight be-
cause it’s fairly straight-
forward, but it’s not a
mainstream treatment for
type 2 diabetes. A very
small study found that
therapeutic fasting with-
out food for a set amount
of time can help reverse
type 2 diabetes. Another
study showed that eating
very few calories (500-600)
2 days a week and a nor-
mal diet the other days
helped people with type 2
diabetes lose weight and
lower their blood sugar
levels.
WHAT DOESN’T WORK
When it comes to revers-
ing diabetes, there’s no
magic pill. If you see a
product that claims to
cure diabetes or replace
your prescribed diabetes
medication, beware. The
FDA cautions that many
illegally marketed things
are unproven and possibly
dangerous, including:
 Dietary supplement
 Over-the-counter
drugs
 Alternative medicines
 Homeopathic products
 Prescription drugs
Additional evidence has
become available in recent
years suggesting that dia-
betes reversal is a possible
alternative to consider in
place of traditional diabe-
tes treatment and manage-
ment.
Hence weight reduction
 maintaining ideal BMI
are the key features of RE-
VERSAL OF DIABETES
coupled up with a high fi-
bre diet and regular physi-
cal activity
.

have booked out a
theatre,” says the ac-
tor as we sit down
with her for a chat at
Yash Raj studios. It
took going through a
month-long audition
process and “training
from casting agent
Shanoo Sharma” to
crack the part. “When
I met the director, I
had no idea it was for
Bunty Aur Babli 2.
Rani [Mukerji]
ma’am, the OG on set,
showed immense con-
fidence in me and
asked me to use my
instinct,” says Shar-
vari, accepting that if
she was not part of
the film, she would
have questioned the
casting of the new-
bies opposite Mukerji
and Saif Ali Khan.

Mumbai: Taking a dig at China, Defence Min- ister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said “some ir- responsible nations” with their narrow par- tisan interests and he- gemonic tendencies are coming up with wrong definitions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). It is a matter of con- cern that UNCLOS is being repeatedly weak- ened by arbitrary inter- pretation of its defini- tion by some nations, Mr Singh said, after commissioning of In- dian Navy’s destroyer Visakhapatnam. “Some irresponsible nations, with their nar- row partisan interests, hegemonic tendencies are coming with wrong definitions of interna- tional laws,” Mr Singh said. Indigenously-built stealth guided missile destroyer Visakhapat- nam, packed with an ar- ray of missiles and anti- submarine rockets, was commissioned in pres- ence of top naval com- manders. ‘Visakhapatnam’ is equipped with weapons and sensors, including supersonic surface-to- surface and surface-to- air missiles. And like the ma- triarch of the party - So- nia Gandhi - directed, the party leaders put a grand show of unity on Sunday wherein Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot went one step forward and included 5 mem- bers from Pilot’s camp into his cabinet, includ- ing 3 cabinet and 2 MoS berths. Reciprocating on the same, Sachin Pi- lot, who was at logger- heads with Gehlot till a year back, came out in full support of the gov- ernment and even mixed with the Gehlot camp leaders like there was no love lost, ever. And it is this unity, on the basis of which the Congress party hopes to bring a dent in BJP’s fortunes and form gov- ernment in 2023, an idea on which both the camps agree upon! Rajasthan Chief Min- ister Ashok Gehlot, on Sunday, said that the Congresspartywillonce againemergevictorious in the 2023 assembly polls in Rajasthan and form the government. His remarks came as 15 MLAs took oath as min- isters in the Rajasthan government on Sunday . “We will all unite and take the policy , ideology and programmes of Congresstothecommon people under the leader- ship of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and win the 2023 assembly polls on the issue of de- velopment and form the governmentagain,”said Gehlot in a tweet. We all have to maintain this trust of the public in the times to come. For this, the work has to be contin- ued with full hard work and dedication,” he add- ed in another tweet. In fact, Sunday’s ‘Congress’ was a far cry from the Congress the people of Rajasthan have become accus- tomed to observing as the two ‘factions’ came together at Raj Bhawan giving a message that the past was Turn to P8 OUR EDITIONS: JAIPUR, AHMEDABAD, LUCKNOW NEW DELHI www.firstindia.co.in www.firstindia.co.in/epaper/ twitter.com/thefirstindia facebook.com/thefirstindia instagram.com/thefirstindia SHOULDER-TO-SHOULDER: CM Ashok Gehlot along with Ajay Maken, Govind Singh Dotasra, Sachin Pilot, Shanti Dhariwal, BD Kalla, Pratap Singh Khachariyawas, Bhanwar S Bhati and others at PCC on Sunday. —PHOTO BY SUMAN SARKAR NEW POLICYMAKERS: Governor Kalraj Mishra and CM Ashok Ghelot pose with new ministers Tikaram Jully, Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya, Bhajan Lal Jatav, Brijendra Ola, Govind Meghwal, Rajendra Ghuda, Ramesh Meena, Ram Lal Jat, Hemaram Choudhary,Vishvendra Singh, Mamta Bhupesh, Zahida Khan, Shakuntala Rawat, Murari Lal Meena Dr Mahesh Joshi at Raj Bhawan on Sunday. —PHOTO BY SANTOSH SHARMA 18 new cases 00 new fatalities 11 cabinet and 4 MoS inducted in reshuffle LOYALTY PAYS, MAHESH JOSHI IS NOW CABINET MINISTER! Three ministers are from Dausa district, 4 from Bharatpur district. Bharatpur shares border with UP where Assem- bly polls are going to take place. According to police sources, the deceased Ayush and Vartik along with two other friends had gone to take bath in the pond. The duo en- tered the pond first as the other two sat on the banks. SPIRITUAL SPEAK “The happiness which comes from long practice, which leads to the end of suffering, which at first is like poison, but at last like nectar – this kind of happiness arises from the serenity of one’s own mind.” —Bhagavad Gita IN-DEPTH AS SIDHU STIRS ANOTHER ROW, CONGRESS REMAINS UNCONCERNED unjab Congress pres- ident Navjot Singh Sidhu, who had ear- lier attracted contro- versy for warmly hugging Pakistan’s army chief General Qamar Bajwa during his visit in 2018, stirred a row for calling Prime Minister Imran Khan his “elder brother”. Sidhu had defended his 2018 act by say- ing that the hug lasted only a few seconds. On a visit to Sikh holy shrine at Kartarpur Sahib which falls in the neighbouring country, Sidhu called for opening of Pun- jab borders for trade with Paki- stan as he profusely thanked Imran Khan for allowing Sikhs from India to visit the Kartar- pur shrine. At a time when the presence of Taliban and ISIS in Afghani- stan and given Pakistan’s du- plicity, Sidhu’s gushing over Imran Khan and hugging Gen Bajwa, however briefly, makes him a risky player in the border state. Captain Amarinder Singh, who raised suspicions about him, briefed Union Home Minis- ter Amit Shah and NSA Ajit Doval about the security situa- tion in Punjab. But the Con- gress is unconcerned. TOP TWEETS P id the Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) of- ficials have an ul- terior motive in framing Aryan Khan, Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dha- mecha in a drug racket? The Bombay High Court’s de- tailed order granting bail to Aryan Khan tore into the NCB’s charges against the superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son, raising doubts about the NCB officials’ real intent in arresting Aryan Khan and two others and keeping them in jail for 25 days. The high court’s order said, “There is hardly any positive evidence on record to convince this Court that all the accused persons with common intention agreed to commit unlawful act. Rather the investigation carried out till this date suggests that Ap- plicant/Accused nos. 1 2 (Aryan and Merchant respec- tively) were travelling inde- pendent of Applicant/Ac- cused no. 3 (Dhameecha) and there was no meeting of minds.” The court also re- jected NCB’s claim that WhatsApp chat showed Ary- an’s links with trafficking and said nothing objectiona- ble was found in the chats. The court also did not agree with the NCB’s theory that since the three accused were to travel together on cruise hence they were linked. As there was no med- ical examination done the court also trashed argument that the accused had admit- ted to drug consumption. With so many loopholes in its charge-sheet and so many doubts being raised about the NCB’s intentions in arrest- ing the trio has left the NCB’s credibility badly eroded. Af- ter Rhea Chakraborty this is the second major NCB case to have fallen flat. What the NCB may have achieved is traumatizing the three youngsters and tarnishing their image. NCB CASE AGAINST ARYAN GOES DOWN THE SEA With so many loopholes in its charge-sheet and so many doubts being raised about the NCB’s intentions in arresting the trio has left the NCB’s credibility badly eroded. D CLIMATE CLIMAX: AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH conomic growth has always been the niche target of the socio-economic agenda. The mechanics of this inconven- ient truth is simple: higher economic activity tends to go hand in hand with additional social power. Therefore, pow- er balance hanged for long on the cents minted by econom- ic progress. Although, through this quest energy and natural resource con- sumption went off the charts. This also led the climate to push its boundaries beyond its capacity. It has been pro- posed that land temperatures are rising faster than before. Other natural resources such as water, clean air, and the never-ending list of products that the human race requires to sustain are getting closer to the red zone. Climate change is an unavoidable consequence when the green- house effect is affected. With which the average tempera- ture of the planet would not be suitable for living. This increase in global tempera- ture increase brings disas- trous results from melting of the ice mass to vanishing some parts of the land alto- gether through the high rise of water. Global warming quivers everyone’s food and water se- curity. In many parts of the world, crops that have sur- vived effortlessly for centu- ries are struggling to survive, making food stability more inadequate. Disasters linked to climate and weather ex- tremes have always been part of our Earth’s system. But they are becoming more fre- quent and intense as the world warms. No continent is left untouched, with heat- waves, droughts, typhoons, and hurricanes causing mass destructionaroundtheworld, the climate issue is becoming more and more urgent. If we reflect, humans have negatively influenced the natural climatic balance of and around the earth. From burning coal, gas, and cutting down trees to increasing live- stock farming many factors contribute to this change. In the past few years, European countries have experienced record heat waves that are unnatural to the climatic con- ditions. Floods were also part of the trail. These are all signs that the capacity of our planet to fight back the im- posed threats is decreasing with every passing day and soon we will run out of time. These are all climate change indicators. We assume that the melting ice in the Arctic is way too far from us to throw its negative spell but what we fail to notice is how this melting ice, as a result of climate change is gradually contributing massively to the rising sea level that results further in floods in the part of the world where it is more unlikely to occur. This is a real concern for those living in low-lying coastal areas. We are currently facing the worst-case scenario of the cli- mate change emergency and its environmental deteriora- tion effects. The large-scale measurements should be taken care of by the govern- mental institutions of the world to withhold this inevi- table threat to the survival of the human race and other forms of life. At the same time, individual efforts should not be belittled while every step matters. The youth of today’s world plays a crucial role in it as they are a vital segment of our society . They are the by- standers of the change and extinctions. They are perhaps more aware than any other lot. Each one of them can help curtail global warming. We all make choices and if we make them more consciously we can influence the climate positively . We can promote theyouthtoadheretosustain- able life practices which are environment friendly such as using a bike more, generating less waste, or maybe recoup- ing the source of energy at home and to dwell more upon the solar energy . However small these steps seem to be they are very mighty and can lead the unprecedented change and reverse the cli- mate crisis. The changes the young people will make in their lifestyle would contrib- ute to the positive steering of climate change. A common problem, whose consequence everyone will bear, needs collective effort from everyone. To achieve the profound reduction in greenhouse gas emissions required to cope with the cli- mate crisis, the world there- fore basically needs to pon- der upon this inevitable dis- aster more determinedly . On the one hand, we are worry- ing unremittingly, how our generation Z will cope with the struggles of life, on the other hand, we are letting the thought fall between the cracks how the coming gen- erations will survive with this speed of climate change. We need to be more aware that this debate about cli- mate is not theoretical, it’s very real and unfortunately more urgent than any other progressive docket. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL E DR JYOTI JOSHI The writer is a soft skill, yoga trainer, business coach and English language instructor in Germany, Europe We can promote the youth to adhere to sustainable life practices which are environment friendly such as using a bike more, generating less waste, or maybe recouping the source of energy at home and to dwell more upon the solar energy. However small these steps seem to be they are very mighty and can lead the unprecedented change and reverse the climate crisis. In the past few years, European countries have experienced record heat waves that are unnatural to the climatic conditions. Floods were also part of the trail. Since CT is not a one-time affair as it has to be constantly practiced to keep one agile and versatile in the art, it’s not known how the government may execute this new idea, or at least popu- larize it among new recruits to turn them into believers. It is being said that the course for CT is al- ready defined and it may be included as part of the physical training very soon that includes horse-riding, mountain trekking, river rafting, etc. The credit for this ‘innovative’ idea is giv- en to PM Narendra Modi himself, while NSA Ajit Doval is cred- ited with expounding the idea in the public. Addressing the passing out parade of IPS offic- ers (Dikshant Sa- maroh) at SVP Nation- al Police Academy (SVP NPA), Hyderabad, last week, he obliquely referred to an old Kau- tilyan doctrine, and spoke of enemy nations can ‘subvert civil soci- ety’ to hurt India. Does this mean CT for civil- ian officers helps check the subversion of civil society? How? Since its re-arrival in 2014 and continuation in 2019, the NDA ad- ministration has been keenly pushing several projects to improve the administrative culture by way of introduction of 360-degree evalua- tion and assessment process, accelerated pace and weightage for lateral entry of domain experts, a revamped foundation course for trainees, a proposed university and deliber- ations on a separate ministry for training, posting the IAS proba- tioners at Centre before joining respective cad- res, etc. Recent decisions on re-appointing top offi- cials in key depart- ments on a contract basis, forced retire- ment of “tainted” offic- ers, increase in the ten- ures of ED, CBI, RAW, Defence Secretary Home Secretary are also claimed as moves to create a better and efficient administra- tion. Whatever the merits or demerits of these in- novative processes in- troduced in the admin- istration, we have not been given empirical evidence of how, and to what degree, these measures have helped improve the govern- ment’s efficiency index. BJP’s state in-charge Arun Singh, CP Joshi, Madan Dilawar, Jitendra Gothwal others in Kota. Aditi Nagar New Delhi: While eve- rything in politics may remin uncertain, but one thing that remains a ‘constant’ is that times and siutuations change and play a large part on the growth of any politi- cian. With the current state of ‘disorganised’ affairs of the Ra- jasthan BJP, and its shameful defeat in the by-election, it seems that the ‘winds of change’ are here. There is a strong murmur in the ‘saf- fron circle’ that ‘New Delhi’ may really be rethinking on the name of two time Chief Minister ‘Mad- ame Vasundhara Raje’ in the backdrop of 2023 elections. Initially there were reports that the high command was miffed with ‘Madam’ but now maybe the situation is slowly changing be- cause in spite of all the efforts over the past three years, no effec- tive alternative to Madam has coming to the fore, yet. This ques- tion has become more serious due to the de- feat of BJP in the last two by-elections. In the past, know- ingly or unknowingly, former state president Ashok Parnami had given indications in Banswara, of the next assembly election to be fought under the lead- ership of Raje and al- though the top leader- ship had expressed some displeasure over this statement, not much was done. According to sources, both JP Nadda and Arun Singh are push- ing Madam’s ‘candida- ture’ in front of the high command and BL Santosh also has a keen eye on the situation in Rajasthan but until the ‘situation’ does not be- come ‘better’ at the level of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, till then all these things are just po- litical speculations. In the midst of all this atmosphere, Raje is now going on a three day tour to Udaipur and Banswara from 23 November till 25 No- vember. Worried over the shortage of fertilizers, Birla reviewed the situ- ation by holding a meet- ing with the Divisional Commissioner, officials of Agriculture Depart- ment, Chambal Fertiliz- ers officials and farmer representatives at the Lok Sabha Camp office in Kota. This comes ahead of thescheduledRajasthan Cabinet's reshuffle later in the day . Speaking to the media here, Pilot said, Congress is work- ingundertheleadership of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Party workers will have to work together to bring forth misdeeds of BJP before people. There are no factions in the party. The decision of Cabinet reshuffle has been taken together. I had met party pres- ident Sonia Gandhi in Delhi, we discussed a lot of issues. I carried out all responsibilities given to me by the party in the last 20 years, with dedication. In the time to come, I will work wherever the party sends me, he replied when asked about his future role in the party . Pilot also expressed his satisfaction over the move and stated that the inclusion of four Dalit ministers in the Cabinet has sent out a positive message about the party and the state government. Expressing satisfac- tion over inclusion of four Dalit ministers in the Cabinet Pilot said, 4 Dalit Ministers in- cluded in the new cabi- net. It is a message that AICC, state government and the party wants representation for Dal- its, backward and poor. In fact, Sachin Pilot - the leader of his faction - strolled in the venue and met all the to-be ministers. But what was more surprising for the people there was that Pilot went and hugged Mahesh Joshi and the two were seen exchanging smiles and talking to each other like old friends, when only a year back, the two were in opposite camps. Moreover, Ge- hlot camp MLAs were also seen giving their utmost respect to Pilot as they stood and greet- ed Pilot with folded palms as Pilot shook hands with all of them and cracked jokes. The oath-taking cer- emony to induct 15 new ministers in Rajasthan Assembly was held on Sunday afternoon as Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra adminis- tered the oath to the new ministers. Con- gress leader Sachin Pi- lot’s “loyalists” MLAs are part of the cabinet of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot after the reshuffle. After the oath, Dr Ma- hesh Joshi spoke to First India and said that he has never lobbied or worked with the aim of becoming a minister. “I have never demanded anything. The remaining 5 MLAs Wajib Ali, Sandeep Yadav, Lakhan Meena, Deepchand Kheriya Joginder Awana - reached CMR and were visibly upset. ‘RESENTMENT’ STILL? After Brijendra Ola registered his ‘discontent’ with Maken and Dotasra, late in the evening, it was learnt that Kherwara MLA Dayaram Parmar too wrote a let- ter to CM. In his letter Parmar said, “If we can be informed as to the qualities and capabilities needed which have been kept in mind in including MLAs into cabinet, then in future, we can also try to imbibe them.” Interestingly, earlier, Johri Lal Meena had expressed displeasure over Jully being made Cabinet min and levelled corruption charge against him saying, “We have no displeasure with the party and the leader. We are angry with a particular person.” Mean- while Jully reacted to Meena’s allegations, “Johrilalji’s statement have hurt me.” Even Baseri MLA Khiladi Bairwa displayed discontent in the morning and met Maken to apprise him of his greivance. Perhaps Ola is not too pleased with this develop- ment as highly placed sources reveal that right after the swearing-in ceremony, Ola reached Marriot Hotel accompanying state incharge Ajay Maken and PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasra. The trio held a long discussion behind closed doors and it has come to light that Ola isn’t pleased with the induction in the cabinet. Ola has raised the point that a two-time MLA has been appointed as cabinet minister while a four time MLA is an MoS. How did it feel to wear the crown as one of the finalists of First Miss Teen India? It was a sheer symbol of all the hard work paying off. To put myself up on the stage to narrate the story about abuse. I was taught to wear my wounds as my badges. And so I trans- formed myself as the girl with a sword, dancing proudly on the poem about sexual abuse and fighting with my fears. How was your homecoming? Homecoming for me was a jour- ney of joyous moments. “There is surely no greater joy than see- ing the shimmer in your parents’ eyes.” And perhaps, the home- coming was like a warm hug af- ter the shivering cold nights. • 11. reating diabetes is an art, in addi- tion to aiming at controlling sugar values prevent- ing complications now REVERSAL OF DIABETES is a new concept. Reversing diabetes is a term that usually refers to a significant long-term good sugar control in peo- ple with type 2 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes that are able to get their HbA1c below 6 gm% with- out taking diabetes medi- cation are said to have re- versed or resolved their diabetes. Although there’s no cure for type 2 diabetes, however, it’s possible for some people to reverse it. Through diet changes and weight loss, the patient may be able to reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication. The key to reversing dia- betes seems to be weight loss. Sometimes losing enough weight could help to live diabetes-free; espe- cially if a patient had the disease for a few years and haven’t needed insulin. With time and dedication, type 2 diabetes can be re- versed and the results can be very rewarding, with less tiredness and better all-round health. Research indicates that effective ways to reverse diabetes include:  Low-carbohydrate diet  Very low-calorie diets  Exercise  Bariatric surgery  Fasting In type 2 diabetes there is insulin resistance as compared to insulin defi- ciency. Insulin resistance is responsible for hyper- glycemia. In a normal per- son, insulin increases the uptake of carbohydrates in the liver, muscles, and other target organs. In obese person as a conse- quence of high visceral and subcutaneous fat dep- osition, insulin does not work efficiently at the tar- get site to lower blood lev- els of glucose. The key point for reversal of diabe- tes is to reduce this vis- ceral and subcutaneous fat by a low-calorie diet, exer- cise, bariatric surgery, fasting etc. LOW-CARBOHYDRATE DIETS Low-carbohydrate diets are known for lowering the amount of insulin the body needs to produce, re- sulting in less insulin re- sistance. A study showed that a low-carbohydrate Mediterranean diet was able to achieve significant rates of remission in peo- ple with type 2 diabetes. High blood sugar levels destroy the insulin-secret- ing pancreatic beta cells which further aggravate hyperglycaemia. VERY LOW-CALORIE DIET Very-low-calorie diets (VLCD) have been shown to achieve significant weight loss, reduce insulin resistance and allow peo- ple with type 2 diabetes to come off their diabetes medi- cation. A study showed that an 8-week 800 kcal per day diet was able to achieve re- mission from dia- betes in nearly 65% of patients with type 2 diabetes. The reversal of diabetes appeared to be correlated with signifi- cant reductions in fat stor- age within the liver and pancreas. A VLCD is re- garded as an extreme form of diet and therefore should be undertaken with care. This type of diet is ex- treme. It means working with a professional and be- ing very controlled with how many calories be eat- en by the patient. But the chance that it could send into remission may give a strong motivation to stick to it. It’s important to get started on a weight-loss plan as soon as diagnosed. EXERCISE More physical activity is a way to improve diabetes, but it may be tough to lose enough weight to go into remission with workouts alone. A modest, lower- calorie diet plus a big step- up in burning calories could put on the path to remission. A study showed that people aim for 10,000 steps a day and at least 2 1/2 hours of moderate exer- cise a week along with cut- ting 500-750 calories a day and following specific in- sulin and medication rou- tine saw more than half of them reach near-normal blood sugar without medi- cation. It’s the weight loss that really matters. Exer- cise can help to get there but expect to change the diet as well. BARIATRIC SURGERY This type of surgery helps to lose weight by changing the stomach and digestive system to lim- it how much the patient can eat. Aside from helping to lose weight, it may help reverse diabetes in other ways, although scientists don’t yet know exactly why . One theory is that it affects the hormones in the gut to help control blood glucose. The efficacy of type 2 dia- betes reversal depends on the choice of procedure, there is unilateral im- provement in glycemia fol- lowing the operation, and bariatric surgery has been found to be superior to in- tensive type 2 diabetes medical management. Re- searchers estimate that upwards of three-quarters of people see their diabetes reversed after bariatric surgery. Gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgery have better long-term re- sults than gastric banding. Bariatric surgery is gener- ally an option only when BMI is 35 or higher. FASTING Fasting can be a practical way to lose weight be- cause it’s fairly straight- forward, but it’s not a mainstream treatment for type 2 diabetes. A very small study found that therapeutic fasting with- out food for a set amount of time can help reverse type 2 diabetes. Another study showed that eating very few calories (500-600) 2 days a week and a nor- mal diet the other days helped people with type 2 diabetes lose weight and lower their blood sugar levels. WHAT DOESN’T WORK When it comes to revers- ing diabetes, there’s no magic pill. If you see a product that claims to cure diabetes or replace your prescribed diabetes medication, beware. The FDA cautions that many illegally marketed things are unproven and possibly dangerous, including:  Dietary supplement  Over-the-counter drugs  Alternative medicines  Homeopathic products  Prescription drugs Additional evidence has become available in recent years suggesting that dia- betes reversal is a possible alternative to consider in place of traditional diabe- tes treatment and manage- ment. Hence weight reduction maintaining ideal BMI are the key features of RE- VERSAL OF DIABETES coupled up with a high fi- bre diet and regular physi- cal activity . 10 ETC JAIPUR | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 2021 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epaper/ I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia Promoted by Mahima Real Estate Pvt.
