The Badminton Asia Team Championships 2022 started on
February 15, 2022 at Shah Alam, Malaysia. The championship
will continue till February 20th.
The Indian men's badminton team is being led by young
Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen in the absence of senior player
Kidambi Srikanth, while the Indian women's badminton team
is being led by Malvika Bansod in the absence of PV Sindhu
and Saina Nehwal.
The continental tournament will act as qualifiers for the
Thomas & Uber Cup Finals, which are scheduled to be held
in Bangkok, Thailand in May 2022.

3. Saudi Land Forces Commander pays historic
visit to India
The Commander of Royal Saudi Land Forces, Lieutenant General Fahd
Bin Abdullah Mohammed Al-Mutair arrived in India on February 14, 2022
in a historic first.
The three-day visit is the first-ever visit to India by a serving Royal Saudi
Land Forces Commander.
It is a testament of the growing bilateral defence ties between India and
Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi Commander called on India’s army chief General M M
Naravane during his visit and both held extensive talks to further
enhance defence cooperation between India and Saudi Arabia.
Their dialogue paved way for the identification of new areas of
cooperation including counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, artificial
intelligence and cyber security.
The Saudi Commander was accorded the ceremonial guard of honour at
the South Block lawns before the talks. He was welcomed by General MM

4. Assam to change name of cities contrary to
Indian culture
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that the
state government will launch a portal to invite suggestions for
change of names of cities, towns & villages.
The Assam Chief Minister tweeted saying, "Here is much in a
name," and added that they shall be launching a portal to invite
suggestions on change of names across Assam which are contrary
to their civilisation, culture and derogatory to any caste or
community.
The renaming of cities in India is not a new trend, it started as early
as 1947 after the end of the British Rule in India. There have been
several name-change proposals since then, some of them
controversial.
All proposals for the renaming of cities and towns have to be
approved by the central government.

5. Veteran singer Bappi Lahiri passes away at 69
Veteran singer and composer Bappi Lahiri passed away at
CritiCare Hospital in Juhu, Mumbai on February 15, 2022.
He was 69.
The news of his passing was confirmed by a hospital
doctor.
'Bappi Lahiri passed away a little before midnight. When
the family got him to the hospital his blood pressure was
low and the pulse couldn’t be felt.
We tried to revive him but it was too late,' informed Dr.
Deepak Namjoshi, Director of the Hospital and Physician,
Cardiologist and Pulmonologist, who was treating the
musician.

6. Income Tax Budget 2022: No change in
Income Tax slabs, 30 percent tax on virtual
asset transfer
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed
permission to allow individuals to file an updated Income Tax
Return within two years of the relevant assessment year
under Union Budget 2022-23 on February 1, 2022.
The announcement aims to provide an opportunity to the
individuals who have made errors while filing the return to
correct their errors within 2 years.
The Finance Minister did not announce any change in the
income tax slabs, in a huge disappointment for many of the
salaried individuals.
The income tax slabs and rates will remain same as before.
The salaried individuals were expecting an upward revision in
the basic tax exemption limit.

7. Decoding FM’s Speech for Govt Job Exams
FM Nirmala Sitharaman presented Union Budget 2022 in
Parliament. While keeping the Income Tax Slabs unchanged,
FM announced a major change in taxation as far as virtual
digital assets are concerned.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman proposed a 30
per cent tax on income from transactions in such assets.
Furthermore, FM Also proposed Gati Shakti Programme
which will boost infrastructure and create more jobs.
On education sector, FM has announced launch of a new
Digital University as well as expansion of PM eVIDYA with
addition of new TV channels for supplementary education.
