1. Character
There is one character on this magazine
portraying two sides. The image on the left
represents her stripped back innocent
character. By wearing a plain white casual
t-shirt it makes her relate more with an
audience, for her more grounded “normality”
side to life. Furthermore with minimal make
up it makes her younger audience idolize her
even more by expressing her natural beauty
which challenges the conventions of an R’n’B
artist. On the other hand we have the image
on the right where her character is more
exposed with nudity which suggests the more
stereotypical R’n’B performer. With her
heavily makeup it implies her more
glamourous and mysterious character and
additionally adds to the sex appeal for both
genders. Additionally applying colour to her
character on the right enhances her stage side.
Narrative
As there isn’t any scenery used in the advert we are left with an
enigma narrative. Although with two sides of the artists character
used it suggests that the album is a journey of Beyoncé’s life. The two
images could also represent the genre of songs that feature in her
album.
Setting/Iconic
Both backdrops are pale grey colours to
focus on all the attention on the artist.
With no scenery in the background it gives
the artists status, to enhance how
powerful the artist is alone. The costume
used on the right character replicates a
piece to a bike. This could suggest the
artists colour journey. the character has
minimal clothing which is stereotypical for
an R’N’B artist. Furthermore the bold prop
stands out and adds to her personality.
