Discovery Of Raised Bread in Egypt Essay
The piece of art that I will be discussing about is how the Ancient Egyptians first discovered the art of making modern bread, over 4000 years ago
during the Neolithic era? The Ancient Egyptian lives simply depended on agricultures; however, the majority of the people were involved in farming.
Moreover, when the Ancient Egyptians discovered raisedbread, the Egyptians understood the value of having leavened bread part of their lives.
Bread was part of a daily diet in their lives, it was essential nourishment. Indeed, bread was simply, the staff of life for the Egyptians and for all of us
around the world today. Finally, since the Ancient Egyptians discovered raised bread, perhaps they may led the first Civilization.

Nevertheless, during the Neolithic era, many of the development of the agriculture and farming occurred around that era. However, the Egyptians
still had some difficulties with their agriculture and farming to grow periodically because they had limited resources for food. In addition, the
main reason the Egyptians had limited resources of food, was the lack of water. The lack of water affected the ancient Egyptians farmers
tremendously, the effect on growing crops and raising animals. The Nile River in Egypt was the main resources for farmers and for the rest of the
Egyptians to live; The Egyptians lives depended on the Nile River. In addition, when the Egyptians farmers had to raise crops or animal, they
would have to wait until the Nile River would get flooded. The Egyptians farmers would harvest their lands up to three times of year.
Subsequently, while the Nile River will get flooded during its season, the mud that it will compose would sit onto a surrounding area, until it was
form into soil. The soil was used to make crops, therefore, wheat was one of those crops that were grown very often in the Egyptians farm lands.
Indeed, the Egyptians discovered that wheat could be pulverized and made into paste. They would set the paste over a fire to make flat bread and the
type of wheat that they were using was called emmer, meaning varieties of wheat. (Unknown, . "History of Bread." Bread Info . W.J. Rayment,

Comparing The Works Of Jacob And Wilhelm Grimm
It is safe to say that you are the sort of individual who makes the best choice and makes a move or would you say you are the lethargic individual
who gives others a chance to do the hard work for you? No matter what you classify yourself to be, life has its way if coming back arounding,
giving people what they deserve. In the folktale ВЁFrau HolleВЁ by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm the author compares and contrast the characteristics
and personalities of two sisters. This comparison between the sisters demonstrate how good witted people with benevolent actions later in life will
receive a reward. In contrast greedy and lazy people who don't endeavor their very best to perform a task will fall short of a reward, because it is not
well deserved. Throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

looking at the tasks is to regard the loaves and apples as tests. They are tasks that reveal character. A person who passes them may proceed to
attainment. A person who fails them will not be able to attain, as her own shortcomings will get the better of her. This industrious girl will reach her
attainment later in the story, unfortunately her step sister falls short. The tale of Mother Holle speaks as much about character as about attainment.
The beautiful girl's initiation was by invitation. The ugly girl tried to gain it by force. However, attainment can only go to the right person. That is the
person who is patient, diligent and of good character. Try as she will, the wrong person cannot attain because she is unwilling to let go of her own

Weight Loss Plan For A New Year 's Resolution
I was determined to keep searching for more ways to lose weight! For some unknown reason, I started soul searching, trying to figure out where I
was going wrong with New Year's resolutions. I was trying to figure out why it was so hard for me to stick to my New Year's resolutions, until the
end of the year. Out of all the things that I couldn't stay committed to during a New Year's resolution, I didn't care about them, like I cared about
sticking to a resolution to lose weight. I began to closely analyze all the possible reasons why I failed at whatever traditional weight loss plan, I tried in
the past. I also had to analyze why I wasn't able to consistently keep the weight off, without strict dieting. I hated how strict dieting made me feel! I
couldn't help but believe that, there had to be a way for me to lose weight and keep it off––without punishing myself with strict dieting. I knew that if I
was going to lose weight and keep it off, that I had to use healthier weight loss strategies other than the ones that I'd used in the past. I also knew that,
in order for me to have continued success, that my resolution had to consist of me losing weight, without ever making a New Year's resolution. I
decided to start with not eating any fried foods. I felt like this was the best choice. I learned that fried foods were not only unhealthy for my waistline,
but also increases the risk of heart failure and other chronic conditions. I also didn't eat any

Food And Drinks In Roman Food
Food and drinks played an essential role in the life of a wealthy Roman citizen. Unlike other periods of time food had an important social impact
during Ancient Rome and the daily life of Ceaser. However in many cultures breakfast, lunch and dinner were the three main courses of the day. A
wealthy citizens breakfast consisted of bread with olives or cheese and lunch was usually quick with bread, cheese, and fruit (Ermatinger 1). Dinner was
their main affair, and the largest meal of the day (Ermatinger 1). It contained bread, vegetables, olive oil, cheese and meat (Ermatinger 1). Banquets and
feasts were also another elaborate way people would celebrate and enjoy their food (Moulton 27). How the poor ate was quite unlike the wealthy.
They had the duty of finding and preparing their dishes in order for their families to eat. Wine was the favorite drink for both social classes and
consumed with most meals. The knowledge and responsibility of women in ancient history pertained mainly to the preparation of food. Today, the
writing of ancients and archeologists has given us insight about the foods that were eaten, and the manner in which they were prepared. Their climate,
soil, and terrain of the region exposed that it was especially good for growing grains, legumes, beans, olive trees, and grape trees (Moulton 3). Grain
was their primary ingredient for making flour, which was used in the most common foods eaten. Including varieties of bread, porridge, biscuits, and
cakes. They

Girl Jamaica Kincaid Analysis
Jamaica Kincaid's short story "Girl" is the narrative of a non–to intimate, one sided conversation between a mother and a daughter. The mother is
telling the girl, her daughter, everything that she is and is not supposed to be doing, day in and day out, week by week, and month by month. This
mother and daughter seem to know each other well and care for each other, although it may not look like it, and the mother makes sure that her
daughter knows what to do and when to do it. The mother, who is in command in this brief story, tells her daughter a long list of everything that she
has to do and what she should not do. She might be telling her daughter all of this because she was feeling guilty because she did the same thing
while she was younger and wishes she knew how to do it then, or she was worried that her daughter would do it and ruin or blacken her reputation.
Mother starts off by making sure that the clothes will be washed properly and on the correct day by saying to her daughter, "wash the white clothes on
Monday and put them on the stone heap; wash the color clothes on Tuesday and put them on the clothesline to dry" (Kincaid, online). The mother is
treating her daughter as someone who does not know much at all; someone who does not have many manners or how to do daily things in life. For
example, the mother said, "don't sing benna [which is Calypso music] in Sunday school" (Kincaid, online). The daughter responds to this instruction by
retorting back "but I don't sing benna on Sunday at all and never in Sunday school" (Kincaid, online). The daughter had listened meekly for the entire
instruction period before that, but she had to say something when her mother mentioned not to do that, when she already knows not to do it and she
had not done it previously. So, she countered back a statement that was counter intuitive to what her mother said, but her mother passed off the remark
without acknowledgment and continued with her lengthy list of instructions to her daughter. The daughter tried to counter what the mother said a
second time near the end of the story. When her mother said to her "always squeeze bread to make sure it's fresh", and the daughter responded by saying
"but what if the baker won't let

The West Bank
Mas–ha
Mas–ha is a small village, probably the size of the Consumes River College campus; however, the meaning to me is greater than the whole state of
California. Mas–ha is special to me because it is my hometown. Mas–ha is located within the disputed side of the West Bank in Palestine. Its population
is about one thousand two hundred people. In the whole village there are two major families. The size of Mas–ha is approximately two square miles.
This village is very prized to me, because of its distinctions such as the religion, the location, the culture and family. My hometown village Mas–ha only
has one religion, Islam. The people of Mas–ha wake up before sunrise to the voice of the Sheikh, who is the man who calls us for prayer. Due to the
small size of the village, everyone hears the call to prayer; the Sheikh doesn't even need to use the microphone. To call the villagers to prayer, the
Sheikh stands in the high tower of the mosque and recites the Athan, which is the formal call for prayer in Arabic. When everyone lines up for
prayer, if some one is missing, it is noticed quickly. Once everyone is accounted for, the people line up in a straight line side by side and begin the
prayer. After prayer is finished, everyone returns home for a simple breakfast before the workday begins. The men head out to their fieldwork, the kids
go to school, and the mothers do the housework. During the workday there are two more prayers that they attend, Duhr and Asr, and one more

Panera Bread Case Study
Panera Bread Case Study
1. SWOT Analysis
Strengths
Panera is a company with many strengths. Many of their strengths stem from their positive interactions with their customers. Panera's first strength is
their high level of customer loyalty and satisfaction. They ranked in the highest categories in both compared to their competitors. This is a distinctive
competency that they hold, something that they do better than their rivals. Resulting from Panera's high customer satisfaction is their next strength,
positive word of mouth. The main focus of Panera's marketing tactics relies on this word of mouth and it is something that they have consistently
achieved. Panera also holds a strength in their diversified menu. The menu is very large and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opportunities
Panera has many opportunities that they can exploit to increase their profits and market share in the quick–casual restaurant industry. Panera needs to
continue expanding on their catering segment which has shown to be a profitable expansion of the business. Panera also needs to expand into the
untapped metropolitan markets identified in Exhibit 3, and has an opportunity for continued expansion within their current locations to reduce
"population per location" numbers to become more comparable with their rivals (Subway, McDonald's, Starbucks, Applebee's, etc.). Another
opportunity that Panera might be able to capitalize on is some kind of joint venture with other companies to become the supplier of their high quality
bread, such as higher–end gourmet restaurants that are not in direct competition with Panera. Finally Panera has an opportunity to expand their location
services to include Online Pre–ordering, to reduce wait times in line, and home delivery options.
Threats
Finally Panera faces some external threats to their company. First, rising gas prices threaten to increase their costs due to the high level of daily
transportation needed for their fresh dough deliveries. Next, a bad/uncertain economy threats Panera. Consumers may find themselves seeing more
value in cheaper fast–food options. Another threat is the extremely high level of competition in the restaurant

Two Similarities And Differences Between Germany And China
Germany, a western country is well–known for beer, sausage and innovative technology. China, an eastern country is well–known for delicious food,
martial arts and low priced products. Everyone knows they are completely different. However, can you raise some concrete examples showing their
difference? And is it true that both do not have a single similarity at all? Though, they have certain similar aspects if you look closer. One obvious
difference between Germany and China is the food habit. German tends to have cool food for breakfast, which comprises bread, cheese and cold meat
like ham and salami, whereas the Chinese tend to have hot food at the beginning of the day, such as congee, which is a thick, white porridge made of
rice and water. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both countries view family as a key aspect of their life. German have a strong bond with family. For example, everybody goes back home for
reunion at Christmas and Easter. Family would spend time together for enjoying the long holiday. Chinese also emphasize family gathering and
reunion, just as German do. During the Spring Festival, a number of Chinese would travel from the city they are working at back to their
hometown in order to celebrate and gather, given the fact that the Spring Festival is the most important festival to Chinese. Furthermore, both
societies show a great respect to elders. There is a Chinese saying, "An old in a home is like a treasure of a family." Chinese view the elder as an
experienced and alive encyclopedia more than an encumbrance in the society. Similarly, German are always willing to help the senior citizens.
German help those citizens is common in public, like on buses and at restaurants. The youngsters would give up their seats, or helping the elders
getting on and off the bus. The politeness to senior citizens could be also shown from the German language. People would use 'Sie', which is a polite
and formal form to address other, 'Herr' and 'Frau' to address the senior

store starting to feel like eternity. Ever since the new totalitarian government had been established after the civil war, ever since the loss of John's

Humanity just barely survived without natural light by growing plants in indoor farms with artificial light. Snow was falling again, and John had to
get to the grocery store quickly. Trying to cover his face, he walked at a steadfast pace, while simultaneously trying to cover up all of his body in
hopes that nothing but garments are burned. John finally arrived at the grocery store after a couple of minutes of enduring the strong wind and acidic
snow. After stepping in, he smelled of burnt leather and wool. John proceeded to check himself in a two way mirror usually used for shake–downs and
inspections, and he noticed that the outer layer of the back of his leather trench jacket was discolored from the acidic snow. He immediately saw
some more snowflakes resting on his shoulders, slowly eating away at the leather; John wiped the snow off and consequently received slight burns to

carefully pouring milk into an earthenware container sitting on a small table next to a still life arrangement of stale bread pieces and a full bread
basket. From the way that the maid dresses up, I think The Milkmaid prescribes a woman in the middle class.
The artist uses almost all implied lines. Taking theface of the milkmaid as a starting point, it is important to focus on the light coming from the
window and reflecting directly upon her face in shadows and pale scales therefore, creating an effect of three–dimensionality. It makes the viewers
focus what the maid is doing: pouring milk. Then we will see a line between the milk vessel and the bread. I also see a line from the bread basket in the
left foreground to the maid's head. These lines intersect at the maid's wrist, which lead us to the action that she is doing. Other lines in the work are
the window and framework, the edge of the table, the outline of the woman's clothes, and the bottom of the wall. These implied lines are less
important than the line from the maid eyes. If you take a closer look, you will see a parallel line between the slant of the basket to her diagonal slant
of her arm and head.

Analysis Of 'The StreetAndAngela's Ashes'
Imagine: A young boy scavenges for food to provide for his impoverished family which was composed of his ill mother and starving siblings or a
homeless, single mom desperatley seeking for shelter. These synopses from "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt and "The Street" by Ann Petry share a
common theme: perseverance through hardships. In "Angela's Ashes," a memoir by Frank McCourt, he stells about the harships he endured through his
childhood, such as, struggling to assist his family in the midst of poverty by stealing food to provide for them. Futhermore, in "The Street," a novel by
Ann Petry, tells the story of young Lutie Johnson, a homeless single mom who is seeking shelter for herself and her children. In these two excerpts, the
authors use the characters, settings, and events to develop the theme, which I've identified as perseverance through hardships. In McCourt's memoir,
"Angela's Ashes", he uses the characters, settings, and events to develop the theme. In the quote, "We don't laugh long, there is no morebread and we're
hungry, the four of us" (McCourt 1). In this quote, it is explaining how McCourt and his siblings constantly struggle with hunger due to poverty.
This quote assists in developing the theme by adding in the starvation of the McCourt family which intensifies the theme of perseverance through
hardhips. An example of events developing the theme is exemplified through the quote, " I can't shove all that under my jersey. Oh, God. Should I
take the whole box? The people passing by pay me no attention. I might as well take the whole box. My mother would say 'you might as well be hung
for a sheep as a lamb.' I life the box and try to look like a messenger boy making a delivery and no one says a word" (McCourt 2). This quote tells the
reader the lengths McCourt was willing to go to in order to provide for his family. This develops the theme by showing how McCourt perservered
through difficult times in his childhood. " You can look in people's windows and see how cozy it is in their kitchens with fires glowing or ranges
black and hot everything bright in the electric light cups and saucers on the tables with plates of sliced bread pounds of butter jars of jam smells of

The Stomach Is The Center And Origin Of Civilization
According to an anonymous author, "The stomach is the center and origin of civilization" (Armstrong, "The Stomach is the Center and Origin of
Civilization"). Food played a crucial role in the rise of civilization. It spurred on the transition from a hunter and gather way of life to a sedentary and
domesticated lifestyle, especially through agriculture and the development of farming. Ancient Egypt grew many of the crops used in the Old World,
producing a variety of fruits, vegetables and grains to supplement their diet of fish, poultry and dairy. Specifically, their cereal plants such as wheat,
barley and rye, aided in the evolution of bread and beer, influencing not only Egyptian society, but also the surrounding territories. Ancient Egyptians
artifacts have been uncovered, providing evidence of the importance of bread and beer. (Tucker, "The Beer Archeologist"). It was consumed daily by
people of all ages and social ranking. They incorporated it into their daily life but also made specialized beer and bread for feasts and special occasions.
Out of Egypt came new methods for baking and brewing grains, gradually developing into the food and beverage we see today. There are three
important ideas to consider when studying bread and beer in Egypt, including its origin, how it was made and its cultural, political and economic
significance. By examining bread and beer in ancient Egypt, it is clear that they contributed greatly to the progression of civilization, from the early

The government launched an advertising campaign in early 2013 to promote healthier eating habits in the UK (BBC 2013). The main aim of this
campaign is to increase the awareness of "hidden nasties" such as fat and sugar in popular foods. This campaign is the latest in a long line of
government aided movements in order to increase health awareness in the UK, some examples of others being change4life and 5 A Day. This latest
movement shows that healthy eating is high on the agenda of the current government.
The government are under pressure to introduce new legislation to reduce the salt content in foods. The coalition is currently working with the
industry, through the 'Responsibility Deal', to improve food content and labelling (Department of Health, 2013); however they are being challenged by
labour to scrap this voluntary approach and to introduce tougher regulation and legislation in fighting foods high in fat, salt and sugar. One proposition
includes a 30% cap on sugar content in cereals aimed at children. The on–going debates and propositions are increasing public awareness of healthy
eating habits which benefit specialist local producers such as Caroline's Real Bread Company.
According to new government rules, the UK's food industry will be required to

which offer a similar dining concept at comparable prices. Meantime, new entrants and existing bread firms like Four Leaves, Prima Deli Bakery and
Bangawan Solo are also competing with BreadTalk directly to offer more bread selections. Similar product offerings are easily imitated at highly
competitive prices which will significantly affect BreadTalk's revenue of the sales of bread. Lastly, threat of product substitutes is present for the

Analysis Of 97 Orchard By Jane Ziegelman
The United States is made up of two different types of immigrants: those who are born on U.S. soil and those who travel to settle here. However,
despite whether one is born in the United States or not for most their lineage runs back to other countries. It is evident that a majority of the U.S.
first immigration wave was around the late 1800's to the 1920's. This was a time in which many immigrants where leaving their countries due to
different reasons and finding prosperity in the U.S. In the book 97 Orchards: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York

This lead to an increase in imports from Italy and many finding jobs selling these items. As people found jobs selling imports there grew to be tiny
shops on the streets to which became Little Italy. An important staple within the community wasbread. When reviewing the Baldizzi's meals each one
consisted of bread. Often times the Italians would make a stew of some sorts and would dip their bread in it completing their meal. Bread for the
Italians is like tortillas for Latinos, it is a common reliable food that enhances their meal. There is a proverb by Mary Taylor Simeti that states "If I
had a saucepan, water and salt, I'd make a bread stew–if I had bread."
The Italians viewed bread as gold where one might say "good as gold" the Italian phrase would be "good as bread". The basic mercy of life would
be a loaf of bread to the extent that if a piece fell to the ground it was to be kissed as if a child hurt themselves. This shows the significant
relationship they hold to this particular item. During this specific time many immigrant families including the Baldizzi's had a difficult time
supplying food weekly. Although it was considered a walk of shame they went down each week to the food shelter. Bread was a holy staple food due to
its reliability and accessibility. This was something that paired easily with other foods and was able to give a sense of

The CP105 Patisserie of Bachelor of Culinary Arts and Business introduces students to practical techniques and theoretical skills, and also knowledge
pertaining to traditional and contemporary patisserie techniques. Throughout the course students will increase knowledge, skills and passion for the art
of pastry. There are two parts to the CP105 Patisserie assessment: Part 1 is a report that involves self–directed research and reflection on the evaluation
of patisserie practices. Students are expected to conduct primary and secondary researches to gain knowledge about patisserie businesses. The
researches should include critiques on efficiency and effectiveness of work practices over time and the rationale of uses, including market viability,
and be able to make logical recommendations based on the research. The main objective of the report is to make comparisons traditional and
contemporary patisserie practices and the reasons they have been adopted.
My research for this assessment is based on bread and mainly on sourdough. I have selected to specialize my researches in the production of bread,
giving me the freedom and allows me to concentrate on baking. I have conducted primary researches by observing local patisserie outlets and interview
bakers to obtain information and gain knowledge.

Nutrition for Sport
Introduction
An athlete needs to ensure that they consume enough fuel to complete activities undertaken. The amount of energy required depends on many factors
including size and weight of the athlete, level and intensity of the training, and due to this the amount of energy required varies from person to person.
However if more energy is consumed than required, the excess is stored as fat and weight will increase, on the other hand if insufficient energy is
consumed the body calls upon its stores to meet the demand and weight will be lost.
To consume a balanced diet we need to consume items from the macro and micro nutrient groups. Macronutrients comprise of carbohydrates, lipids and
protein. Carbohydrates are quickly accessible and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Female Tennis Player
The athletes calorie requirements need to be worked out what is required every day before any training is added in. To do this the same
calculation was made as the female runner, except instead of 8.7 x kg it is 14.7 x kg and 496 is added instead of 829, this is because this athlete is
in a different age group. Again activity requirement is taken into consideration, at 450 calories an hour, and as exact training figures are not
available it has been estimated at 6 hours training a week, which then works out as an extra 2700 calories a week. This figure is then divided by 7 to
give the extra calories needed each day. So this athlete needs a total of 3384 calories a day to maintain her current stature. Again the daily allowance
needs to be divided between the macronutrients. According to National Institute of Nutrition (2007) this athlete needs CHO:Lipids:Protein at 60:25:15.
Once again the calories are converted into grams. See Appendix 1.
Using this information there was a deficit across the board, see Appendix 2.

Essay The Deeper Meaning of Bread
People usually have a specific item that identifies their personality. It may certainly be more than one item. Whatever the case may be, that item(s)
represents in part or in whole that certain individual. In the same way, every culture has something that identifies them. The item could be either a
tangible or an abstract object so as long as it calls to mind the culture as soon as one sees it or after it is explained to them. For this project however, I
have chosen a tangible artifact. The artifact that I have chosen is bread. Bread has fed man for thousands upon thousands of years. It goes back as far as

Bread is also associated with the word "livelihood" which basically is a "mean of support or subsistence" (Merriam–Webster Online Dictionary).
Another definition of bread is money or the food one needs to live. This use of the word is mostly found in slang. Phrases like "put bread on the
table" or "I hate this job but I need the bread" denote this definition.
There are three main reasons why I chose bread as my artifact. The first reason I believe it to be tied with my religious background. As a Roman
Catholic I have a deep reverence and respect for the Eucharist believing it to be the presence of Jesus Christ Himself. The Eucharist serves as the
fountain of life for Catholics. It is an essential part of our spiritual life and provides food for our soul becoming for us the Bread of Life. Just as the
Eucharist serves for us Catholics as spiritual nutrition and source for eternal life, bread being the basic food source that it is, serves as physical
nutrition and it is essential for the continuity of life in a person. For this reason is why bread immediately popped into my mind when I thought about
what artifact I should use for homeless subculture.
Another reason why bread was my choice of artifact is because of the universality of bread. By this I mean

total of revenue derives from Bakery–cafГ© sales. This subdivision of revenue gave way to a $1,108,517 increase from 2002 to 2010. That number

Germany 's Tourism As An American Citizen
Many Americans have common misconceptions about Germany and its people even before visiting the country or getting to know a German
national. Germans are often perceived to be cold or mean and that they dislike tourists. Many also believe that the language sounds harsh or is
unromantic and all Germans consume is sauerkraut, sausage, and beer. These views could be largely due to the way Hollywood paints Germans out
to be and American views on holidays such as Oktoberfest. As a German as well as an American citizen, I have heard many of these stereotypes and
can confidently refute these claims and say that Germany and its people are actually very friendly and have a rich and diverse culture.
Germany's tourism is on the rise as described in a report in a marketline industry profile. It describes that the travel and tourism industry grew in
2015 by 3.3% and is "projected to maintain a similar growth rate..."(Travel and Tourism in Germany 8). In fact, every time I visit I meet more and
more people who are touring Germany. A study done in 2013 by Andrew Hare and collegues was aimed to see how Americans perceived Germans and
Germany. It found that almost 60% of Americans had a positive impression and thought it was modern, forward thinking, and economically powerful

bakery–cafГ© sales. They also generate revenue from the sale of dough to their franchise locations as well as the franchise fees they charge to their
franchisees. Panera Bread has been very profitable in part because they have avoided taking on large marketing endeavors and employ a long supply
chain to get supplies from one franchise to another. Plus, with bulk or pooled purchasing of certain supplies, Panera Bread exercises bargaining
power over suppliers. Their operating profit margin denotes the success they had in the early years of the operation such as in 2004. However, that

Food As A Culturally Diverse Language Essay
Food as a Culturally Diverse Language
Simply stated, linguistic anthropology focuses on how language influences social interactions across all areas of learning and life. More academically
stated, (Creese 2008:229) says linguistic anthropology embodies the assumptions that verbal/nonverbal language and social encounters mutually shape
one another. This interdependence is reflected in the organization of how we communicate with one another based on ourculture. In the article, "What's
in Your Lunch Box Today?: Health, Respectability, and Ethnicity in the Primary Classroom," the author explores how culture plays a role in shaping
perceptions on what is considered a healthy school lunch. Is what children pack in their lunchbox a reflection of parenting and how children perceive
morality and a healthy lifestyle? Food practices are cultural practices; and represent a perceived relationship between national and cultural belonging
(Bonnekessen 2010; Daniel 2006; Kaplan 2006). Due to these influences, it is said that Canadians' food practices incorporate a better sense of hygiene
and nutrition; because of this their food practices were more appropriate and insisted that immigrant groups adopted their practices. Therefore, using
these practices to teach women immigrants the concept and understandings of hygiene and nutrition due to the belief that immigrant food practices are
suspicious because of what they eat. Differences in food practices come as a shock in many cultures because

choices as on the one hand it has to meet the harsh conditionalities of the IMF and on the other has to save the economy from total collapse–balancing
the two wheels is rather a difficult job for the economic managers of the country. The harsh IMF conditions at the moment are doing no good to the
economy, instead, have added to the frustration of common men. What Pakistan needs right now is a growth which is not only demand driven but job
oriented which will help increase consumers' income and standards of living of average Pakistanis. But with high prevailing interest rates, poor
security situation coupled with carrot and stick game of the IMF, the task is unlikely to be achieved. Hence the growth will remain subdued in the near

Bread Mold Experiment Essay
Bread Mold Experiment By: Stephanie Westover
PURPOSE
The purpose of this experiment will be to determine how temperature affects the growth of mold on wheat bread. The researchers choose this topic
because she thinks it will be beneficial to find a way to keep food from molding. Determining how long bread can be stored before molding can help
save money, prevent illness and preserve freshness. The question the researcher will attempt to answer is how freezing affects the rate of mold growth
in wheat bread.
The information gathered in this experiment may be relevant to those individuals who contend with food borne molds at home, or professionally.
Because the rate of mold growth can vary depending ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Controlling for those 2 factors while maintaining proper and consistent measurement procedures should provide a repeatable and reliable understanding
of how temperature variations affect mold growth.
Because the researcher will be measuring mold growth on food and because there is rarely if ever an acceptable level of mold growth on food,
absolute precision in measurement is not necessary. This experiment is designed to measure the relative growth of mold across temperatures, not the
exact level of mold growth on an individual piece. Therefore, measurement in units of 16th of an inch using a standard fractional rule should suffice. A
fractional ruler was used because it easier to utilize in measuring the mold than any other measuring device.
Controlled variables:
–Standard ruler: 6" stainless steel ruler with graduations to the 32nd of an inch.
–Type of bread purchased: Western Family wheat bread.
–Date the bread was purchased: All bread samples will be from the same loaf purchased the day the experiment begins.
–Size of the bread piece: Each sample is one slice.
–Sterility: Each sample will placed in a sealed bag, preventing the introduction of extraneous bacteria.
–Moisture: Each sample will placed in a sealed bag, preventing the introduction of moisture.
–Light: Each bag will be exposed to the same amount of light for the same duration each day.
–Size of the "Zip Lock" baggies: Each bag will be the same size.
–Testing Actions that were used:

Discovery Of Raised Bread in Egypt Essay The piece of art that I will be discussing about is how the Ancient Egyptians first discovered the art of making modern bread, over 4000 years ago during the Neolithic era? The Ancient Egyptian lives simply depended on agricultures; however, the majority of the people were involved in farming. Nevertheless, during the Neolithic era, many of the development of the agriculture and farming occurred around that era. However, the Egyptians still had some difficulties with their agriculture and farming to grow periodically because they had limited resources for food. In addition, the main reason the Egyptians had limited resources of food, was the lack of water. The lack of water affected the ancient Egyptians farmers tremendously, the effect on growing crops and raising animals. The Nile River in Egypt was the main resources for farmers and for the rest of the Egyptians to live; The Egyptians lives depended on the Nile River. In addition, when the Egyptians farmers had to raise crops or animal, they would have to wait until the Nile River would get flooded. The Egyptians farmers would harvest their lands up to three times of year. Subsequently, while the Nile River will get flooded during its season, the mud that it will compose would sit onto a surrounding area, until it was form into soil. The soil was used to make crops, therefore, wheat was one of those crops that were grown very often in the Egyptians farm lands. Indeed, the Egyptians discovered that wheat could be pulverized and made into paste. They would set the paste over a fire to make flat bread and the type of wheat that they were using was called emmer, meaning varieties of wheat. (Unknown, . "History of Bread." Bread Info . W.J. • 2. Comparing The Works Of Jacob And Wilhelm Grimm It is safe to say that you are the sort of individual who makes the best choice and makes a move or would you say you are the lethargic individual who gives others a chance to do the hard work for you? No matter what you classify yourself to be, life has its way if coming back arounding, giving people what they deserve. In the folktale ВЁFrau HolleВЁ by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm the author compares and contrast the characteristics and personalities of two sisters. This comparison between the sisters demonstrate how good witted people with benevolent actions later in life will receive a reward. In contrast greedy and lazy people who don't endeavor their very best to perform a task will fall short of a reward, because it is not well deserved. Throughout ... A person who fails them will not be able to attain, as her own shortcomings will get the better of her. This industrious girl will reach her attainment later in the story, unfortunately her step sister falls short. The tale of Mother Holle speaks as much about character as about attainment. The beautiful girl's initiation was by invitation. The ugly girl tried to gain it by force. However, attainment can only go to the right person. That is the person who is patient, diligent and of good character. Try as she will, the wrong person cannot attain because she is unwilling to let go of her own personal ... • 3. Weight Loss Plan For A New Year 's Resolution I was determined to keep searching for more ways to lose weight! For some unknown reason, I started soul searching, trying to figure out where I was going wrong with New Year's resolutions. I was trying to figure out why it was so hard for me to stick to my New Year's resolutions, until the end of the year. Out of all the things that I couldn't stay committed to during a New Year's resolution, I didn't care about them, like I cared about sticking to a resolution to lose weight. I began to closely analyze all the possible reasons why I failed at whatever traditional weight loss plan, I tried in the past. I also had to analyze why I wasn't able to consistently keep the weight off, without strict dieting. I hated how strict dieting made me feel! I couldn't help but believe that, there had to be a way for me to lose weight and keep it off––without punishing myself with strict dieting. I knew that if I was going to lose weight and keep it off, that I had to use healthier weight loss strategies other than the ones that I'd used in the past. I also knew that, in order for me to have continued success, that my resolution had to consist of me losing weight, without ever making a New Year's resolution. I decided to start with not eating any fried foods. I felt like this was the best choice. I learned that fried foods were not only unhealthy for my waistline, but also increases the risk of heart failure and other chronic conditions. I also didn't eat any ... • 4. Food And Drinks In Roman Food Food and drinks played an essential role in the life of a wealthy Roman citizen. Unlike other periods of time food had an important social impact during Ancient Rome and the daily life of Ceaser. However in many cultures breakfast, lunch and dinner were the three main courses of the day. A wealthy citizens breakfast consisted of bread with olives or cheese and lunch was usually quick with bread, cheese, and fruit (Ermatinger 1). Dinner was their main affair, and the largest meal of the day (Ermatinger 1). It contained bread, vegetables, olive oil, cheese and meat (Ermatinger 1). Banquets and feasts were also another elaborate way people would celebrate and enjoy their food (Moulton 27). How the poor ate was quite unlike the wealthy. They had the duty of finding and preparing their dishes in order for their families to eat. Wine was the favorite drink for both social classes and consumed with most meals. The knowledge and responsibility of women in ancient history pertained mainly to the preparation of food. Today, the writing of ancients and archeologists has given us insight about the foods that were eaten, and the manner in which they were prepared. Their climate, soil, and terrain of the region exposed that it was especially good for growing grains, legumes, beans, olive trees, and grape trees (Moulton 3). Grain was their primary ingredient for making flour, which was used in the most common foods eaten. Including varieties of bread, porridge, biscuits, and cakes. They ... • 6. Girl Jamaica Kincaid Analysis Jamaica Kincaid's short story "Girl" is the narrative of a non–to intimate, one sided conversation between a mother and a daughter. The mother is telling the girl, her daughter, everything that she is and is not supposed to be doing, day in and day out, week by week, and month by month. This mother and daughter seem to know each other well and care for each other, although it may not look like it, and the mother makes sure that her daughter knows what to do and when to do it. The mother, who is in command in this brief story, tells her daughter a long list of everything that she has to do and what she should not do. She might be telling her daughter all of this because she was feeling guilty because she did the same thing while she was younger and wishes she knew how to do it then, or she was worried that her daughter would do it and ruin or blacken her reputation. Mother starts off by making sure that the clothes will be washed properly and on the correct day by saying to her daughter, "wash the white clothes on Monday and put them on the stone heap; wash the color clothes on Tuesday and put them on the clothesline to dry" (Kincaid, online). The mother is treating her daughter as someone who does not know much at all; someone who does not have many manners or how to do daily things in life. For example, the mother said, "don't sing benna [which is Calypso music] in Sunday school" (Kincaid, online). The daughter responds to this instruction by retorting back "but I don't sing benna on Sunday at all and never in Sunday school" (Kincaid, online). The daughter had listened meekly for the entire instruction period before that, but she had to say something when her mother mentioned not to do that, when she already knows not to do it and she had not done it previously. So, she countered back a statement that was counter intuitive to what her mother said, but her mother passed off the remark without acknowledgment and continued with her lengthy list of instructions to her daughter. The daughter tried to counter what the mother said a second time near the end of the story. When her mother said to her "always squeeze bread to make sure it's fresh", and the daughter responded by saying "but what if the baker won't let ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The West Bank Mas–ha Mas–ha is a small village, probably the size of the Consumes River College campus; however, the meaning to me is greater than the whole state of California. Mas–ha is special to me because it is my hometown. Mas–ha is located within the disputed side of the West Bank in Palestine. Its population is about one thousand two hundred people. In the whole village there are two major families. The size of Mas–ha is approximately two square miles. This village is very prized to me, because of its distinctions such as the religion, the location, the culture and family. My hometown village Mas–ha only has one religion, Islam. The people of Mas–ha wake up before sunrise to the voice of the Sheikh, who is the man who calls us for prayer. Due to the small size of the village, everyone hears the call to prayer; the Sheikh doesn't even need to use the microphone. To call the villagers to prayer, the Sheikh stands in the high tower of the mosque and recites the Athan, which is the formal call for prayer in Arabic. When everyone lines up for prayer, if some one is missing, it is noticed quickly. Once everyone is accounted for, the people line up in a straight line side by side and begin the prayer. Panera needs to continue expanding on their catering segment which has shown to be a profitable expansion of the business. Panera also needs to expand into the untapped metropolitan markets identified in Exhibit 3, and has an opportunity for continued expansion within their current locations to reduce "population per location" numbers to become more comparable with their rivals (Subway, McDonald's, Starbucks, Applebee's, etc.). Another opportunity that Panera might be able to capitalize on is some kind of joint venture with other companies to become the supplier of their high quality bread, such as higher–end gourmet restaurants that are not in direct competition with Panera. Finally Panera has an opportunity to expand their location services to include Online Pre–ordering, to reduce wait times in line, and home delivery options. Threats Finally Panera faces some external threats to their company. First, rising gas prices threaten to increase their costs due to the high level of daily transportation needed for their fresh dough deliveries. Next, a bad/uncertain economy threats Panera. The maid is standing in a plain scullery –type room carefully pouring milk into an earthenware container sitting on a small table next to a still life arrangement of stale bread pieces and a full bread basket. From the way that the maid dresses up, I think The Milkmaid prescribes a woman in the middle class. The artist uses almost all implied lines. Taking theface of the milkmaid as a starting point, it is important to focus on the light coming from the window and reflecting directly upon her face in shadows and pale scales therefore, creating an effect of three–dimensionality. It makes the viewers focus what the maid is doing: pouring milk. Then we will see a line between the milk vessel and the bread. I also see a line from the bread basket in the left foreground to the maid's head. These lines intersect at the maid's wrist, which lead us to the action that she is doing. Other lines in the work are the window and framework, the edge of the table, the outline of the woman's clothes, and the bottom of the wall. These implied lines are less important than the line from the maid eyes. If you take a closer look, you will see a parallel line between the slant of the basket to her diagonal slant of her arm and head. • 16. Analysis Of 'The StreetAndAngela's Ashes' Imagine: A young boy scavenges for food to provide for his impoverished family which was composed of his ill mother and starving siblings or a homeless, single mom desperatley seeking for shelter. These synopses from "Angela's Ashes" by Frank McCourt and "The Street" by Ann Petry share a common theme: perseverance through hardships. In "Angela's Ashes," a memoir by Frank McCourt, he stells about the harships he endured through his childhood, such as, struggling to assist his family in the midst of poverty by stealing food to provide for them. Futhermore, in "The Street," a novel by Ann Petry, tells the story of young Lutie Johnson, a homeless single mom who is seeking shelter for herself and her children. In these two excerpts, the authors use the characters, settings, and events to develop the theme, which I've identified as perseverance through hardships. In McCourt's memoir, "Angela's Ashes", he uses the characters, settings, and events to develop the theme. In the quote, "We don't laugh long, there is no morebread and we're hungry, the four of us" (McCourt 1). In this quote, it is explaining how McCourt and his siblings constantly struggle with hunger due to poverty. This quote assists in developing the theme by adding in the starvation of the McCourt family which intensifies the theme of perseverance through hardhips. An example of events developing the theme is exemplified through the quote, " I can't shove all that under my jersey. Oh, God. Should I take the whole box? The people passing by pay me no attention. I might as well take the whole box. My mother would say 'you might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb.' I life the box and try to look like a messenger boy making a delivery and no one says a word" (McCourt 2). This quote tells the reader the lengths McCourt was willing to go to in order to provide for his family. This develops the theme by showing how McCourt perservered through difficult times in his childhood. • 17. The Stomach Is The Center And Origin Of Civilization According to an anonymous author, "The stomach is the center and origin of civilization" (Armstrong, "The Stomach is the Center and Origin of Civilization"). Food played a crucial role in the rise of civilization. It spurred on the transition from a hunter and gather way of life to a sedentary and domesticated lifestyle, especially through agriculture and the development of farming. Ancient Egypt grew many of the crops used in the Old World, producing a variety of fruits, vegetables and grains to supplement their diet of fish, poultry and dairy. Specifically, their cereal plants such as wheat, barley and rye, aided in the evolution of bread and beer, influencing not only Egyptian society, but also the surrounding territories. Ancient Egyptians artifacts have been uncovered, providing evidence of the importance of bread and beer. (Tucker, "The Beer Archeologist"). It was consumed daily by people of all ages and social ranking. They incorporated it into their daily life but also made specialized beer and bread for feasts and special occasions. Out of Egypt came new methods for baking and brewing grains, gradually developing into the food and beverage we see today. There are three important ideas to consider when studying bread and beer in Egypt, including its origin, how it was made and its cultural, political and economic significance. As a Roman Catholic I have a deep reverence and respect for the Eucharist believing it to be the presence of Jesus Christ Himself. The Eucharist serves as the fountain of life for Catholics. It is an essential part of our spiritual life and provides food for our soul becoming for us the Bread of Life. Just as the Eucharist serves for us Catholics as spiritual nutrition and source for eternal life, bread being the basic food source that it is, serves as physical nutrition and it is essential for the continuity of life in a person. For this reason is why bread immediately popped into my mind when I thought about what artifact I should use for homeless subculture. Another reason why bread was my choice of artifact is because of the universality of bread. By this I mean ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Germany 's Tourism As An American Citizen Many Americans have common misconceptions about Germany and its people even before visiting the country or getting to know a German national. Germans are often perceived to be cold or mean and that they dislike tourists. Many also believe that the language sounds harsh or is unromantic and all Germans consume is sauerkraut, sausage, and beer. These views could be largely due to the way Hollywood paints Germans out to be and American views on holidays such as Oktoberfest. As a German as well as an American citizen, I have heard many of these stereotypes and can confidently refute these claims and say that Germany and its people are actually very friendly and have a rich and diverse culture. Germany's tourism is on the rise as described in a report in a marketline industry profile. It describes that the travel and tourism industry grew in 2015 by 3.3% and is "projected to maintain a similar growth rate..."(Travel and Tourism in Germany 8). In fact, every time I visit I meet more and more people who are touring Germany. A study done in 2013 by Andrew Hare and collegues was aimed to see how Americans perceived Germans and Germany. It found that almost 60% of Americans had a positive impression and thought it was modern, forward thinking, and economically powerful (Hare et. All 3–59). • 35. Food As A Culturally Diverse Language Essay Food as a Culturally Diverse Language Simply stated, linguistic anthropology focuses on how language influences social interactions across all areas of learning and life. More academically stated, (Creese 2008:229) says linguistic anthropology embodies the assumptions that verbal/nonverbal language and social encounters mutually shape one another. This interdependence is reflected in the organization of how we communicate with one another based on ourculture. In the article, "What's in Your Lunch Box Today?: Health, Respectability, and Ethnicity in the Primary Classroom," the author explores how culture plays a role in shaping perceptions on what is considered a healthy school lunch. Is what children pack in their lunchbox a reflection of parenting and how children perceive morality and a healthy lifestyle? Food practices are cultural practices; and represent a perceived relationship between national and cultural belonging (Bonnekessen 2010; Daniel 2006; Kaplan 2006). Due to these influences, it is said that Canadians' food practices incorporate a better sense of hygiene and nutrition; because of this their food practices were more appropriate and insisted that immigrant groups adopted their practices. Therefore, using these practices to teach women immigrants the concept and understandings of hygiene and nutrition due to the belief that immigrant food practices are suspicious because of what they eat. The IMF needs to understand that the epicenter of Pakistan's problem is the political economy of the country than the economy itself. The two core issues that needed to be addressed immediately are; improvement in security situation and the economic governance. The government is running out of choices as on the one hand it has to meet the harsh conditionalities of the IMF and on the other has to save the economy from total collapse–balancing the two wheels is rather a difficult job for the economic managers of the country. The researchers choose this topic because she thinks it will be beneficial to find a way to keep food from molding. Determining how long bread can be stored before molding can help save money, prevent illness and preserve freshness. Controlling for those 2 factors while maintaining proper and consistent measurement procedures should provide a repeatable and reliable understanding of how temperature variations affect mold growth. Because the researcher will be measuring mold growth on food and because there is rarely if ever an acceptable level of mold growth on food, absolute precision in measurement is not necessary. This experiment is designed to measure the relative growth of mold across temperatures, not the exact level of mold growth on an individual piece. Therefore, measurement in units of 16th of an inch using a standard fractional rule should suffice. A fractional ruler was used because it easier to utilize in measuring the mold than any other measuring device.
