My Life Experience
1. My Life Experience
It was a dark and perspiring night as the wind was breezing on my face. My parents and I went to
the entrance of the airport in Ethiopia. The date was September 15, 2017 and that day was the day
that we were leaving Ethiopia. We had stayed there for one month for a vacation and to meet our
other family members. We went at 7:30 pm and the flight was at 10:30. We went a bit early because
it is better than being late. Also, if a problem insists, we would have time to fix it but that wouldn't
happen,...right? Honestly, I didn't think we would've gotten on the airplane that night because of that
horrible incident. It was the most meaningful experience of my life because it made me surprised
when I heard that our visa was expired. All this time we did not check that the visa stamp said that
September 14 is the day were leaving in the month that we stayed there. We told the people who
worked at the Immigration that we were leaving on September 15 but their mistake caused us to be a
problem when we were about to leave Ethiopia. We had to be in a rush so we didn't miss the airplane
flight. For that reason, the life lesson that I learned is that managing your time is crucial when it
comes for many reasons. We came a little early so would get the process before the flight done and
if something happens, then we would have plenty of time to do something about it. If we didn't
manage our time and we came later, we would probably miss our flight or we would've gotten really

3. Is Undocumented Alien Illegal Immigration Really A...
When it comes to anything about conflict in immigration there is always a huge debate. There are
two sides to every story and both make very good supportive arguments. Some with very
compelling statistical reports. But which are true? That's for you to decide. Is undocumented alien
illegal immigration really a national problem? Honestly, I don't believe either side. There is no
definite completely correct reports out there. Both sides exaggerate the data to make it more
compelling. But regardless they both sides have very good arguments. One argument is
"Immigration helps to determine the bargaining leverage of the American workers... If you use a
form of labor recruitment that bids down the cost of labor, that leaves you to a society where a small
number are very, very rich, nobody in the middle, and everyone is left scrambling for crumbs at the
bottom." P.132
Basically that means, with all the undocumented workers it takes away the labor rights to legal
citizens. Driving they're bargaining rights for a higher wage increase to nothing because everyone is
replaceable. Which then in turn makes the rich richer, and makes the middle class slip into poverty.
Leaving more and more people fighting for livable wages, housing, and a decent life.
The other argument is "They never take into account the contributions that undocumented
immigrants make.... It would be an economic and social disaster for 11 million people to pick up and
leave.... Without immigration labor, it would almost

7. Legal And Illegal Immigration Has Always Been A Primary
Legal and illegal immigration has always been a primary issue in the American economy. There are
many American workers that consider immigration a primarily a redistributive policy.
The prediction by economists is that illegal immigrants will redistribute income by lowering the
salaries of competing American workers and increasing the salaries of complementary American
workers as well as profits for business owners and users of illegal labors. America has always been a
home to all immigrants and is considered a large group in the work force and contributing to the
economy. While the total net impact on the native born is small, the loss or gain for certain groups of
the people can be extensive. Let's consider the facts immigrant workers ... Show more content on

An additional 20,000 are issued to individuals with at least a master degree from an American

The argument that many Americans make when it comes to individuals who work visa is that they
take jobs from American workers. More often H–1B visa holders take jobs that American are
reluctant to take. H–1B holders often take jobs in remote areas where a need for specialist
occupation is needed such as doctors. American are resultant to relocate to these areas, so foreigners
often fill in to these types of situations. According to Taylor Mark companies are not allowed to pay
visa holder less money than to their American counterparts holding the same job. But ever rule
companies often find loopholes to save money for their companies. One gap that companies
especially in the engineering sector is to hire visa holder through a third party service, paying them
less than their American counterparts. This does happen but more often than not. Individuals who
hold H–1B visa are contributing to our economy and filling in jobs where a need a high for the type

9. The Pros And Cons Of H-1B Visas
In recent years, much has changed in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
(STEM) fields. Three reports, Rising above the Gathering Storm, Innovative America, and Tapping
America's Potential, argue that if Americans do not improve in the STEM field our economy will
suffer, our exports will be affected and taking away H–1B visas will heavily impact America. The
three reports write about using more innovation and technology, if we do this then our economy will
be stable. The proponents argue that we need to close achievement gaps, improve the quality of
teachers, increase labor supply, improve our international ranking, and issue more H–1B visas. The
proponents say that America should issue more H–1B visas because it is helping our economy but,
critics say we shouldn't issue more. Workers in the STEM field think that their employers are
replacing them because the H–1B foreign workers are cheaper. Although, critics argue that the H–
1B visas are taking American jobs and giving them out to foreigners so, America can be ahead. But,
for the US to be ahead in innovation and STEM education, we need to issue more H–1B visas. Right
now, students here on visas are graduating with degrees in STEM and because of this our economy
is stable. The critics argue that these H–1B visas are popular because companies want to obtain
workers at a lower cost than American workers. Ron Hira, the writer of The H–1B and L–1 Visa

Something that was really hard for me was to come and study here in the US. What opened the
doors to achieve this personal goal was the sport that I play, basketball, thank to that I have a
scholarship, and of course the support from my parents was one of the most important thing to get it
done. To get to study in the US for me it was a great achievement, because since childhood I wanted
to do, always kept my goal in my mind and insisted to get it, until one day I got it and did not
hesitate to accept and challenge to myself. Obviously, I had to go through a very difficult and bumpy
process to achieve my goal, such as travel to another country to get a scholarship which can help me
in the financial issue, as education comparing the United States with my country (Paraguay) is much
more expensive but it has its advantages. And it 's also more than clear that getting a degree here has
much more value in getting a job or presented for an important charge, because you consider that the

I did something crazy this weekend and traveled two states away to see my brothers and their
families.
I have a BP visa card from Chase. I was filling our van up with gas in Pennsylvania and it got
declined.
Ironic Occurrence Number 1: My BP Visa Card was declined when I was filling up with gas at a BP
station!
Actually, I didn 't know it was declined at the time. The readout at the pump said "see cashier". So, I
tried again and it failed again and told me to "see cashier" again.
So, ya know what I did? I went and saw the cashier.
He was a nice guy with a Indian accent. Who 'd a thunk it? A guy from India at a gas station? Yep.
He was very helpful and told me "I vas sviping it too vast". So, he came out with me and showed me
how to "svipe" it slower. And after he did...the result was still "see cashier".
Ironic Occurrence Number 2: The gas pump told the cashier he should see himself.
So, I used my other credit card and it worked fine.
I immediately called the phone number on the back of the card and I spoke to another person from
India. This time I think the person was actually located in India! She told me my credit card was
placed "on hold" for security reasons. She then asked me all sorts of verifying questions; mother 's
maiden name, last four digits of my social security number, whether I was circumcised or not and
then told me everything was okay and my purchases should go through from now on.
And, that 's not what happened.

19. The Effects Of History And Social Structures On Our Lives...
Experiences play a vital role on who we are as a person, more importantly the memories that we've
had as children stick with us for the rest of our lives. They help structure and model us into a person
that will eventually do extraordinary things that will affect others around us. In first world countries
most experiences as a child are generally the same for everyone because they live in a safe shielded
environment that protects them anything bad that could happen but, children growing up in third
world countries face horrible experiences that can cost them their lives but they believe is the norm.
Through my primary research I have discovered that history and social structures have had a great
impact on my personal life than ever imagined having to growing up in a third world country. After
developing my secondary research, the information I collected is proof of events that have
ultimately lead to factors of my development from an infant to who I am as a person today.
Throughout my life there were different historical events occurring at the time in my home country
and my future country that unfolded to shape and model my life to make me the person that I am
today. I am able to identify specific events that separately correspond to the process of coming to

21. Illegal Immigration Is The United States
Illegal immigration is the migration of people across national borders in a way that violates the
immigration laws of the destination country. Some countries have millions of illegal immigrants.
Immigration, including illegal immigration, is overwhelmingly upward, from a poorer to a richer
country. The easy definition of an undocumented immigrant is someone who was not born in the
United States and therefore has no legal right to be or remain in the United States. Not all
undocumented immigrants snuck across the border illegally. Although it is hard to get an accurate
number on the amount that did, some undocumented immigrants originally came here legally as
tourists or some came on a temporary visa and just did not leave. The reasons on why they decided
to stay and not go back to their countries are numerous. Some immigrants come to the United States
to work and escape the poor economy in their country, while others come to be with their family.
Whatever the reason may be, at the end of the day they all come here to achieve the american
dream. The American Dream is a national ethos of the United States, the set of ideals (Democracy,
Rights, Liberty, Opportunity, and Equality) in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity
and success, and an upward social mobility for the family and children, achieved through hard work
in a society with few barriers. In the definition of the American Dream by James Truslow Adams in

23. Visa Portfolio Analysis
I was asked to review data on our visa portfolio to determine what the impact would be if we were
to change members rates to match their most current credit score. I have done this by reviewing
three separate snapshots of our Visa Portfolio. For each set I eliminated all cards and balances that
would not see a rate change. I also eliminated all that had a current credit score of 0 or in the 9000's.
Due to the small amount of cards and balances this impacts I don't think this will alter the results
significantly. Further, it was requested that I change all who are now have a credit score of 730 and
above to 9.9%. This is a significant change as probably our largest block of card holders are A+
borrowers with a rewards visa at a rate of 11.9%.
Before I present the data it is also worth noting that this data does not necessarily show what we will
see, rather it shows what we would have seen had we been changing the rates to changes in score.
This is because, at least as I understand, if the rates change it would apply to new, not existing
balances. This seems significant as this data is only a snapshot of current balances. To more

THE EFFECTS OF H1B VISA ON THE US ECONOMY
The H–1B visa program governs most admissions of temporary immigrants into the United States
for employment in science and engineering (SE). This program has become a point of significant
controversy in the public debate over immigration, with proponents and detractors at odds over
how important H–1B admission levels are for U.S. technology advancement and whether native
U.S. workers are being displaced by immigrants.
In the first article, "The H1B Visa Controversy" by Norman Matloff, he points out that
these policies aren't in the best interest of the USA. Although many firms recognize the benefits

He very clearly assess and presents an overview such issues including the EB visas. The main
targets of the H1B, the highly skilled immigrants (HSIs) innovate and engage in entrepreneurial
activities at the levels which are disproportionate to their presence in the population. The researchers
found a direct correlation between increase in the number of H1B visas and increase in the patent
applications, to a point where Indian and Chinese researchers contribute to roughly forty percent of
all the patents filed in the US in the last 10–15 years. But with the change in H1B caps in 2001 and
as early as 2017 (the proposed bill), these HSIs are finding other countries like Canada and Australia
attractive and better destination that have much more to offer. This is not only creating a shortage of
such skilled talents in the US but also creating a chain effect where they are in turn proving to be a
competitor to the domestic US firms on a global level. This calls for an improvement in the current

There are 226,000 family sponsored visas, 140,000 employment based visas available each year.
There is no limit for immediate family members such as spouses and children younger than 21. Due

Mexican immigrants are excluded from the Diversity Lottery which grants immigrant visas to

Filed in 2005, Visa Interchange primarily challenged the legality of three credit card practices:
mandatory default interchange fees that merchants must pay for every transaction; the Honor all

33. Personal Narrative Essay : Moving To Russia
Who would have thought that five years ago I lived another life in Russia. It was a typical Russian
lifestyle, but for me it was not enough. I spent countless nights wondering how I could change my
life. In 2006 I had to decide between leaving my native country of Russia where my family and
friends lived and moving to America where I could learn English and meet a man whom would
appreciate my ambitions, and I chose to move to America, where all my dreams came true; I even

Looking back, I can recall several reasons why I considered leaving Russia. First, I always wanted
to speak English like the actors in my favorite English movies and understand them without
subtitles. I wanted to understand the English songs from my favorite radio stations. At the time, it
just sounded like a stream of unfamiliar words. I tried to learn English in elementary school and

practice with, I was not making the kind of progress I was hoping for. Therefore, moving to America
would give me the opportunity to dive into an English–speaking environment and receive first–hand

enter the country illegally without the visa. According to the Migration Policy institute, in 2012
there are 11.4 undocumented immigrants in the US. and 4.1 million undocumented immigrants who

39. Border Wall And Illegal Immigration
One of the oldest justifications for a government is as a protector. Governments provide security,
economic stability and social welfare for its citizens (Slaughter 2017). Without border control, there
would be mass immigration, which would lead to major job losses and economic instability
(Mcguire 2017). This research paper intends to explore the question: how does a border wall
influence illegal immigration? I argue that countries that allocate resources for the construction of
border walls will tend to have less illegal immigration. This is important because every country has
the right to control and protect its borders. In other words, each country has the right to know who
enters and who leaves in order to protect its borders. In this regard, it is important to acknowledge
that the implementation of a border wall has significant consequences to economic, social, and
political stability within a country.
This paper will begin by defining the concepts used in our research proposal and provide several

41. My Experience At The Usa
My experience of moving to the USA included a couple of steps such as preparing, arriving, and
adopting. Moving to America was one of the most thrilling and exciting experiences I have ever had
in my life. It all started after I graduated from high school. I had always dreamed of going to abroad
to study in a better school to be successful in life. My dad was leaving me hints here and there that
he was going to send me America for school, but I was sure that it wasn't going to happen because
getting a student visa was tough back then. However, that summer when I saw that letter in my mail
from the immigration department of USA for an interview, I was speechless. In order to come to
America for school, I either had to have a student visa or a permanent residency, for which someone
had to sponsor me. I was actually starting to give up on coming to the USA for School. But one day
I saw a mail from the USA embassy, and in the mail it said that my aunt sponsored me to come to
the USA, and they asked me along with my family for an interview. It was so unexpected that I
didn't know how to react. I took the letter to my dad, and he told me all about how he was
processing the whole time while I was busy taking my finals. That was exciting because I was
actually going to get a chance to study abroad which was all depending on the interview. I had to
prepare for the interview with my best effort because that could take my life up to a whole new
level. The interview was in the capital

Cougar Visa: Developing a Means–End Chain for a Credit Card
A) Using the data provided, perform a means–ends analysis.
During this case study, we can see that the current state the following: there are an increasing
number of competitors in the credit industry. More and more companies enter this industry, making
even more difficult for the bank to compete and gain more customers shares. So, we've perform a
means–end analysis of the situation in order to get the maximum information for them improve their

We could conclude from that analysis that this means–end chain helped us to define a bit more what
a credit card customer is expecting when making the decision to go for a company more than
another. If we have that in mind, then it's much more easier to differentiate the company from the
competition and as a results try to gain market shares.
B) What segments have been neglected?
After having a look at the whole document, and after having analyzed the means–end chain, we
could say that some segments have been neglected. Indeed, we talk about all the added value option
that we could actually encounter in a credit card but there isn't any research or data on that. Like
what kind of option are the most wanted (insurance? travellers checks ? no international fees ?
etc...). Furthermore, we could see that we lack some information about the link between the
attributes and the benefices. Indeed, we have then both but we don't really know the relation
between them, which makes it more difficult to do the means–end chain.
C) What changes, if any, in the product positioning might be recommended based on the attribute
desired? Do you need additional information?

In recent headlines, the H–1B visa has come become a debatable topic. The number of visas

The costs and benefits current, native workers see when the number of H–1B visas distributed are
increased, is depended on several factors. One factor is the age of the current, native worker. In a
study conducted by Sari Pekkala Kerr, stated that there is a substitutionary effect, that occurs with
young skilled immigrants workers, versus older, current native workers (4). This is a cost to older,
current native workers, but a benefit for younger, current, native workers. Younger, current, native
workers are more complementary to young, skilled immigrants. Another factor is the skill set held,
by the current, native worker. By having more skilled workers, generally speaking, regardless of
citizen or immigration, will increase the productivity and innovation in the firm. This is a benefit for
specialized, current, native workers.
Skilled, immigrants see costs and benefits when the number of H–1B visas distributed increase. The
costs associated with working in the United States, is through labor force participation and taxes,
which include income, Social Security, and Medicare taxes (West). Also, by having more skilled,
immigrants, they make higher wages, therefore paying more in items, such as food, housing,

49. Annotated Bibliography On Global Mobility Of Latin America...
A Guide to Global Mobility in Latin America and the United States
Introduction
For multinational organizations the global movement of employees is essential, but companies today
are faced with a maze of legal issues to consider. The following article provides a regional overview
of current trends, key government agencies, and visas for business travel, training and employment
assignments for the United States and certain countries in Latin America, including Argentina,
Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, and Venezuela.
Immigration laws differ from country to country. Although the specific names for the visas and the
requirements differ, there are common patterns and trends – especially for countries balancing the
interest of engaging in global commerce against protecting local labor markets and national security.
Treaties and bi–lateral agreements often give special privileges to citizens from specific countries
(e.g., benefits for citizens of Canada, Mexico and the United States under the North American Free
Trade Agreement). Be careful not to overlook these sometimes hidden gems when considering
alternative visa strategies.
Current Trends
It invariably takes longer than expected to secure all of the authorizations required before an
employee can travel abroad for business.
The best laid plans go often awry. Sometimes short–term business travel may seem like the only
way to meet an immediate need. But the visas that are quickly available for such trips generally

51. Visa Is The Most Promising Stocks Of The Credit Card...
Visa has become one the most promising stocks in the credit card industry. Its stock symbol is V, and
it trades in the financial sector of the The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). As an investor, Visa
has remained one of my most lucrative investments. In 2008, I purchased Visa as an initial public
offer at $59.00 per share. Since that time, the stock has climbed as high as $248.00 and split 4 to 1
on March 18, 2015 with a split share price of $62.00. Although the reason for splitting remains
undeclared, the value of the stock has remained consistent with steady growth toward a more
promising future.
Visa, as an Investor Business Daily Leaderboard stock, is recognized as one of a select number of
companies screened for having the most potential for big gains. (Alva, 2015) The Visa conducts
over 65% (over two billion credit cards, debit cards, and many other financial services) of the
United States and some foreign countries' credit card transactions, which is more than its
competitors MasterCard and Citigroup. For fiscal year 2013, investors saw a 34.5% return (5–year
annualized), and Visa reported $11,778,000 in assets, marking a 13% increase in revenue. (Fortune
500 2014, n.d.) Many analysts, such as Bill Carcache of Nomura, have applauded Visa as a company
with a most promising future. According to Carache, "[Visa] is expected to rise further as the card
processing network rides the coattails of strong bank partners and benefits from higher pricing and

53. Persuasive Essay About Undocumented Immigrants
My Uncle risked his life crossing the border, his family, and his future. But he was determined to be
with the love of his life, my aunt, no matter how risky it was. He was terrified, no other emotion was
coursing through his mind. He just wanted to make it there, and he did. He got lucky, unlike many
other undocumented immigrants who cross the border. and they are labeled dangerous and should be
evacuated as if they are investing our country. But like my uncle, they are coming here for a better
opportunity, because they believe in America. They believe in us, so why should we not believe in
them? Undocumented immigrants should be able to stay in America, any age, and have a chance to
get legal without complications. Because Immigrants are an improvement to our country, we are all
immigrants, immigrants are as much of a person as born–Americans are. Letting undocumented
Immigrants stay in our country, isn't just a plus for them, it's a plus for us. They are rising our
population, and they help our economy, a lot! Many people, including the president, think that
immigrant workers increase labor market competition, and bring down wages for everyone. Lucky,
this is misguided, and driven into false information. Immigrants do not take up space in
employment. So they are not taking away anything from native workers, If anything, they are
providing more business for us to purchase from. People also think that terrorist are why immigrants

55. My Life Experience
It was a dark and warm night as the wind was breezing on my face. My parents and I went to the
entrance of the airport in Ethiopia. The date was September 15, 2017 and that day was the day that
we were leaving Ethiopia. We had stayed there for one month for a vacation and to meet our other
family members. We went at 7:30 pm and the flight was at 10:30. We went a bit early because it is
better than being late.

59. Benefits Of Temporary Visa Programs
Over the past few decades, the American workforce has been on the decline. As many of the
previous generations start to retire and leave the workforce so does their skills, something American
companies are having problems replacing. Up till the 1970's the American workforce saw the
number of unskilled workers decline with the number of skilled workers increasing. In the 1970's
however, this trend stagnated and has held constant. With individuals aged 55–59 years getting
ready to retire the American workforce is about to lose a large portion of its skilled workers. This
puts American companies in a very precarious position, how do these companies replace these
workers? Some companies are moving their operations to places where the number of skilled
workers is steadily increasing. Most companies, however, take advantage of temporary visa
programs like H–1B. This visa program allows these companies to bring in skilled workers as non–
immigrants to work in the United States for three years, up to six with a renewal. Currently, the H–
1B program allows for 65,000 foreign workers with an additional 20,000 visas set aside for
individuals pursuing doctorate degrees. Additionally, universities are allowed an unlimited number
of visas for individuals pursuing bachelor's degrees. In order to apply for this visa, a foreign worker
must have already been offered a position and actually it is their employer who applies for the visa.

Mark Solomon's conflict is whether he should hire or let go of the illegal worker, turn Garza into the
authorities, or just ignore the situation. After the interview, Mark is faced with an additional ethical
dilemma, the knowledge of other workers working in the plant under different names. Now, the
human resource specialist must face, whether the plant should stop hiring temporary illegal workers
and run into staffing problems, or continue hiring these workers and face legal allegations by
breaking the law. The plant is breaking the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA). The law
was passed to control or prevent illegal immigration in the United States. Furthermore, the law
prohibits employers to knowingly hire unauthorized workers. The plant is breaking the law because
they are responsible for reviewing, confirming, and verifying employee's eligibility. The plant needs
to use the I–9, Employment Eligibility Verification, which assist employers in identifying if workers
are citizen or non–citizens of the United States. Another law the plant may be violating is the Equal
Employment Opportunity (EEO), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. This law "forbids discrimination
based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin" (Noe, Hollenback, Gerhart & Wright, 2011).

63. United States Should Increase The Visa Cap
The H–1B visa, originally created to streamline admissions of temporary foreign workers to the
United States, has become a topic of much debate between the foes of immigration and the
information technology (IT) industry. The debate is focused on whether to increase the visa cap in
order to alleviate what the industry describes as a shortage of IT labor. This argument, however,
obscures the fundamental flaw of the H–1B program that deserves a more prudent examination. The
current H–1B visa program is plagued with inefficiencies that privilege the IT industry at the
expense of both visa holders and domestic IT workers alike. The H–1B program needs a complete
overhaul, and should include a mechanism to ensure that both employers and employees abide by
free market forces. Increasing the current visa cap will only amplify current inefficiencies of the H–
1B visa program. Alternatively, allowing visa holders the ability to access a greater range of
employment opportunities increases the holder's incentive to make economic contributions. The
industry's ability to hire globally must be balance by workers' rights to seek out more competitive
opportunities. Current mobility restrictions of the H–1B program are preventing valuable workers
from seeking the most valuable opportunities, ultimately leading to a misallocation of foreign labor.
H–1B visa reform that includes a role for labor mobility will not only introduce market forces into
the bigoted program, but will also help ensure

69. What Are The Best Policies The United States Should Implement
What are the best policies the United States should implement to solve the illegal immigration
problem? Immigration is an important implication throughout the United States as a whole. This
topic drafts many opinions, both positive and negative. The media uses propaganda to put blame on
the immigrants for taking American jobs, or not being allowed to live in our country legally. Others
give a more welcoming view to them, that they're welcome to come to our country and they have a
chance to restart their life. "An estimated 12 million–plus undocumented (illegal) immigrants

"There are approximately 3.7 million unlawful immigrant households in the U.S. These households
impose a net fiscal burden of around $54.5 billion per year." The final disagreement exclaimed by
many Americans, is the free education that illegal immigrants are getting for coming to the United
States. Most schools will give millions of dollars of loans to illegal immigrants. The Supreme Court
case Plyler vs Doe was held in June of 1982. This Court case was about public education for
immigrant students. The Supreme Court ruled 5–4 that the Board could not deny the immigrants an
education. Plylers "Equal access to education for children regardless of status."
Immigrants will take our jobs and lower our wages, and create less jobs for the working Americans.
Immigrants are usually brought closer to regions that have a big supply and demand such as farms
and factories in big agriculture countries. The south has a lot of farms for immigrants to get jobs on
and supply for their families. These are jobs Americans in our society don't like to do. On top of this,
undocumented immigrants will accept a job for lower wages
than the Americans and can be paid "under the table". They will do the dirty jobs for less than
minimum wage to support their families. Another argument is how immigrants overuse welfare in
this country. All unauthorized immigrants don't have legal access to the welfare reforms. But

71. A Short Note On Visa Program Vs. Visa Programs
How does the J–1 visa program compare to the H–2 visa program? How do the employer
sponsorship requirements, work protections, problems, and litigation trends, and other components
of the programs compare? Short Answer The J–1 visa program is very unlike the H–2 visa program
in design, oversight, and regulation. The J–1 visa program contains 15 different categories of
participants, where some, such as secondary students, are generally not allowed to work.
Furthermore, sponsor requirements for the J–1 visa program are not at the employer level, but a
level above with so–called sponsors. The J–1 program, like the H–2 program does suffer employer
abuse in such things as wages and hours, but for different reasons. Unlike the H–2 visa ... Show

The J–1 visa program dwarves the H–2 visa program. For example, in 2013, estimates were that
there were 215,866 J–1 visa participants as compared to 74,859 H–2A workers and 94,919 H–2B
workers. J–1 visa participants are like H–2 workers in that they lack access to many public benefits
and such things as federal funded lawyers. b. Sponsorship and Employer Requirements To qualify as
a sponsor for the J–1 visa program, an entity must be a U.S. government entity at any level, an
international organization or agency that the U.S. is a member of and have an office in the U.S., or "
[r]eputable organizations that are United States Persons." To earn a sponsor designation, such entity
must: (1) Demonstrate, to the Department of State 's satisfaction, its ability to comply and remain in
continual compliance with all applicable provisions of this part; (2) Meet at all times its financial
obligations and responsibilities attendant to successful sponsorship of its exchange visitor program;
and (3) Demonstrate that the organization or its proposed Responsible Officer has no fewer than
three years ' experience in international exchange. The Department of State ("DOS") which oversees
the J–1 visa program states that it only has powers to sanction sponsors and not employers.
Therefore, unlike the H–2 visa program, oversight of employers is left to sponsors. Sponsors screen

Through the Diversity Visa Lottery Program, immigrant visas are made available annually to people
whose country of origin has low immigration rates to the United States. Each year, the State
Department selects 110,000 applicants from all qualified entries. However, once 50,000 immigrant
visas are issued, or the fiscal year ends, the lottery is closed. Immigrant visas are not available for
people whose country of origin sent more than 50,000 immigrants to the United States in the last
five years.
Many people think they can show up at a U.S. embassy or border post, describe why they'd make a
good addition to U.S. society, and be welcomed in. Unfortunately, this is the exact opposite of how
the U.S. immigration system works.
Instead, people who want to come to the U.S., whether temporarily or permanently, must determine
whether they fit into eligibility categories for either "permanent residence" (a green card) or for a
temporary stay ("nonimmigrant visa").
Then they must submit an application –– in fact, often a series of applications –– to one or more of
the U.S. agencies responsible for carrying out the immigration laws. These include U.S. Citizenship
