While watching this movie, it's like I could feel what those blacks were feeling. The hate and the

My hypothesis is that the influence of people born in the United States will agree that people should
be more like "Americans". I am curious about what makes people born in the US believe that other
people should be more "American", how do people view the United States from an outside
perspective (living outside of US) versus a inside perspective (living in the US). Past research (Table
3.0: 2004) has shown that in the past people born in the US agreed more that other people should be

In the movie "Selena" her father, Abraham, was talking to Selena about why she can't go to
Monterrey, Mexico and he clearly stated how "We have to be double as perfect as they do. We have
to know and speak perfect Spanish and English just to get accepted as a Mexican–American." He's
clearly stating how there's an insane amount of prejudice and discrimination against Mexican
immigrants on both sides of the border. As a child she grew up singing American songs in her home
and for people at her dad's Mexican restaurant. Then she started gaining popularity as she aged and
started singing in Spanish and eventually was able to reach and convince the people of Mexico that
she could be accepted and break some of the prejudice against Mexican–Americans, but

During the 1900s African Americans fought for freedom and racial uplift. Today African Americans
can be seen fighting for equality and justice. African Americans actions were demonstrated through
the Niagara Movement, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People also known as
the NAACP, the Harlem Renaissance, and the civil rights movement. Each of the movements listed
have shown the different struggles Blacks went through for what they believe in.
The Niagara Movement was an important movement in the early 1900's. July of 1905, W.E.B. Du
Bois, hosted the first Niagara Movement meeting in Ontario, Canada (Carson, Lapsansky–Werner,
Nash, 2005). W. E. B. Du Bois wanted to host the meeting in Buffalo New York but the hotel did not
want to accommodate that many African Americans. The movement started due to the lack of
Booker T Washington wanting to help African Americans. Gates (2011) states W.E.B. Du Bois
wanted to fight to give Blacks full benefits, citizenship, equal voting rights, fair treatment, and
protection from white violence. (p. 239) Booker T. Washington disagreed with W.E.B. Du Bios and
felt Blacks should take what is given to them because it is a privilege. Booker T. Washington felt it
was time African Americans did things for themselves without a handout. The members of the
movement estimated around 400 people. Gates, 2011 states that the movement conducted three
meetings annually with more than thirty branches around the country. (Page 240) The

themselves. People still are not created equal. Despite being in the twenty–first century is still seen
racism and feminism. America has a percentage of racist people, and they have black people and do

Native Americans : The Native American People
The Native American people were a humble and self–sustaining race that was taken advantage of
and exploited for their generosities. You will see that the Europeans will maneuver and essentially
take a land inhabited by Native Americans by a series of actions that took place in the late 1400s to
the late 1770s. Europeans will display acts of what seem to be kindness but is just a an act that in
turn will weaken the Native American people. The Native Americans lived in a very open area with
no established form of defense, such as a wall, from outside threats. Their homes were built from
materials they found in nature, like trees to keep their structure vertical and brush to act as a roof.
The Europeans lived in a more established community with boundaries and protection from foreign
threats. Their homes were built of masonry construction, mainly stone and rock. When the
Europeans first arrived on Native land, the Natives greeted them with open arms and curiosity. They
were led by a man named Christopher Columbus. They were intrigued with things they had never
seen before. For example, the Natives used cane for their spears for hunting but they were shown a
weapon made from steel called a sword. After Columbus realized how trusting they were, he had
taken a few of them as prisoners in search for gold. He enslaved the people who had just welcomed
him and offered him peace. He treated them like incompetent people that he had planned to exploit
for his own personal gain.

Other than discovering the world, some everyday activities of a european explorer include, a
competition to see who can split a Native American man in half first, drowning young children for
their own humor and burning native Americans alive to watch them agonize. During the Columbian
Exchange, a time of trading goods and animals between the Americas and Europe starting in 1492,
new landemasses were being explored and claimed in the Americas. These landmasses were
explored by European explorers, including Conquistadors, Spanish explorers. Modern–day Mexico
was the biggest target for these explorers. Although they discovered and explored many new
landmasses, European explorers should be remembered as vile people because they brought
gruesome diseases to the Americas, killing millions, they interrupted and took advantage of the
Native Americans and their everyday lives, and the explorers were very violent towards them.

During the 1860s there was a lot of different stands on the state of freedom for the African–

Throughout history, black people have been oppressed. As far back to the Middle Passage and
American Revolution. In this essay, I am going to investigate the ways black people resisted their
ill–treatment. I will do this by investigating different time periods between the Middle Passage and
the American Revolution so that we may find trends. From my investigations, we see in what ways
and for what reasons their resistance varied by their time and location in history. Additionally, we
will be able to see how their resistance calmed as they became more familiar to the land, and as they
began to see America as home.
In the Middle Passage, Africans were captured and sold by other Africans of their native land. They
were then packed on a ship as if they were cargo. The conditions on that ship were unsanitary and of
poor life quality, that many were struck with various illnesses. When many of the slaves aboard felt
their growing despair, they attempted to resist their oppression by ending their lives so that they may
mess with the slave business. This is evident in The Making of African American, pg. 63, where we
read that: "Some slaves...were determined to destroy themselves. They waiting the right moment
and threw themselves into the sea and the waiting sharks. When the crew––determined to protect its
valued cargo––blocked the way with nets and other barriers, slaves starved themselves."

Today, in America there is a disproportionate amount of Black people incarcerated. There are
discrepancies in everything from the education they receive to the jobs that are available to them.
This growing trend needs to be addressed and changed permanently, otherwise already superfluous

(n.d.) declared that "One in six black men had been incarcerated as of 2001. If current trends
continue, one in three black males born today can expect to spend time in prison during his

color and youth with disabilities for incarceration, as school policies may isolate them from their

the workplace, black college graduates are twice as likely as whites to struggle to find jobs – the
jobless rate for blacks has been double that of whites for decades." This means that multiple
difficulties stand in the way of the average Black person being successful. With few jobs available
and when faced with the seemingly impossible pursuit of making a living, an instantaneous income
