How does your media product represent particular social eval
1. 2) How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
2. I have used images of both male and females, around
half and half. This is relevant to my target audience, as
Gender it is similar to the number in the UK.
My front cover on media product
Hh represents the female gender, but the
male gender is also represented through
my magazine.
My main image is of a female, which
means a female is more likely to buy the
magazine, as she will see the image as
someone to admire and be like. Not only
is the image a female, she is also
wearing clothing that obviously
represents the female gender. She is
wearing a fringed crop top and is
revealing a lot of skin. Her hair is long,
blonde and flowing, and she is wearing
makeup. This image represents the
stereotypical girly woman. The image of
the artist, also produces the male gaze
theory, so it represents the male gender.
This represents the male gender, as they
stereotypically look at women on front
covers
3. The colour scheme used, is gender neutral so it
represents both genders.
The font is mainly simplistic and easy to read
which makes it more appealing to the male
audience. I have also used a fancy font as well
which represents the female gender as they
stereotypically like pretty things.
By making my magazine gender neutral it
appeals to a wider audience.
4. Age
My magazine is aimed at 17-25 year olds, and the image on the front cover shows a 17
year old girl, so she fits in to that category. A stereotypical young person, is represented
as someone that is fun, and is full of energy. My magazine represents this stereotypes
because the magazine is bright and vibrant.
The repetition of mixing the two fonts, is fun and effective, it also appeals to young
people as it is attractive and eye catching. The front cover is simplistic and modern, which
is more likely to appeal to the younger generation.
The language presents the younger generation. Similarly, to Billboard and Top of the Pops
magazine, I have used language that is informal and fun. Young adults are more likely to
relate to the language used as it is the type of language that they would use, so they will
respond well to it, and are likely to buy/read the magazine. The language is informal, and
represents there age group as it is fairly basic.
5. The images are all of those who in the target age, they represent this age by the clothing
that they wear. The clothing is fashionable and attractive, and is appropriate for their age
group. The clothing represents the age group of young adults, as they are fairly revealing
and show a lot of skin; which an older generation isn’t likely to wear.
6. On my contents page I have included a
competition where the prize is a iPhone5, this
will appeal to the young audience as they are in
to technology, and will want to win the prize.
I have also included websites and links where it
is appropriate, which also reinforces the idea of
young people being technical and being on the
internet a lot.
7. Class
My magazine could appeal to the working and the middle class. Generally, pop music
appeals to the working class, and indie music appeals to the middle class. As my
magazine is chart genre, it includes a lot of different genre’s of music, so I would say my
magazine is aimed at both class’.
