This document discusses the target demographics and design choices for a hip hop culture magazine. It aims the magazine at middle class 16-25 year olds of both genders. Photographs of models representing hip hop style were used to appeal to both male and female readers. Informal and formal writing, as well as topics of interest to both genders, were included. Visual design elements like color scheme and pictures were chosen to convey a stylish, classy magazine for middle class readers.
2. Middle Class: Have a higher standard of education, more likely to be in work, more likely to
own their own home, have a longer life expectancy, have families later, come from a stable
family background, be white, more likely to be rich, less likely to be involved in crime, more
likely to have an important job or manage people, more likely to work in an office.
Stereotypically hip hop culture is aimed at middle class people who are able to use their
income on extra luxuries. With the price of £3.50 it meant that my magazine was
affordable for this class. With other existing products costing around this price meant
that my magazine was not inappropriately priced. Also, the article of my magazine does
not contain too much or too little writing that only higher or lower class people would
want to read. It has a article with a little informal and formal writing where middle class
people will be able to understand both easily. so middle class people can relate to the
type of text and wording used.
I tried to represent middle class people throughout the magazine but the
golden pictures represented the class the most. I decided this as the colour
scheme connotes a stylish and classy page.

blacks however, other ethnic groups began to
contribute to the development of the cultural
movement, including White British. This is due to
the lyrics within this genre being mainly English.
As the magazine was produced in York it was
difficult to find black models because the
population is mainly white. I used tanned models
with the style of the genre which I thought still
looked suitable to represent the genre.
6. Article
My article includes both informal and formal language for my target audience of
mainly teenagers. In the present days teenagers are easily influenced by media and
inspirational people. They choose to dress like them and speak like them. Teenagers
rely on others until they find themselves so reading articles with the latest news is a
way of becoming fashionable and in date. The informal language is a way of
representing how teenagers are influenced to speak these days like the people they
aspire to.
Technology
As technology is improving and developing a common symbol featured in many
magazines nowadays is a QR code. As teenagers have the latest technology it allows them
to understand these features and use them. So using these symbols in magazine
represents teenagers and how the generation are comfortable with using them.
Photographs
I chose to use a male model for my front cover this conveyed a typical teenagers style.
I used an urban, artistic area to represent teenagers socialising in a place they are
familiar with or a place where they feel comfortable and safe. The prop of the
cigarette shows rebellion and trying new things.
