2. COSTUMES
• Throughout the whole music video my actor, Josh, will be wearing various t-
shirts to represent a passing of time to the audience. This will help the audience
to understand the fact that his self-discovery and acceptance has taken time and
hasn’t just happened over night. To me this will make the video considerably
more realistic to anyone who has gone through something similar as these
things take time. I would also like the colours of the t-shirts to correlate with the
colours of face paint to hint towards the mood he is in during that day and the
progression in his mood as the video continues.
3. COSTUMES CONTINUED….
• Some colours I am considering include, blue, red, green, and white. I think these
can all help to portray very different emotions and they are also colours of face
paint that are easy to come across making the process easier. In the first scene, he
will be wearing a red jacket to allow him to reveal his t-shirt with words on to the
viewer when standing in front of the mirror. The words are written to represent all
the things others say about him at his college/sixth form. I think having this as the
first scene instantly sets up the narrative and gives the viewer clues as to what it
will be based on.
4. PROPS
• Keys- keys will feature to allow his to be able to open the
house. This shows the audience straight away that it is his
house or someone’s in which he is very close to.
• Rucksack – the rucksack along with his age will help show
the viewer that he has just come home from college/sixth
form. Not only does this help portray the education situation
he is currently in, it may help to make the audience feel
more of a connection with him as my target audience is of a
similar age to him and may instantly feel they can relate.
Furthermore, his treatment of the bag when he drops it will
help to show his mood in his strong placement of it on the
floor as he enters the house.
5. PROPS CONTINUED…
• Eyeliner pen – the eyeliner will be used to show him write the horrible words on
his face. I have chosen eyeliner to inhibit damage to my actor’s skin and to
ensure it is easy to get off. I want him to put the words on his face to make it
seem as if he believes the words that people are saying as well as meaning there
is something for him to cover using the face paint.
• Facepaint – the face paint will be used by actor to cover the horrible words on his
face. I will use a range of colours from darkest to lightest to show the progress in
his emotional state as the video goes on. Also, when apply the face paint my
actor will become gentler each time to further reinforce his positive development.
• Mirror – the mirror will be used to allow the actor to see what he is doing when
applying the face paint in the forest. This also allows me to create more
interesting camera shots for the audience as I can do some shots where the
audience are seeing the action from the mirror instead of just head on. This will
help to keep the video interesting in the repetition of the face paint and freedom
sequence on different days.
6. ACTOR
• The actor I have chosen is Josh Shuttleworth as he is in the right age
range and matches my proposed appearance. The fact he is within the
age bracket of my target audience will help them relate directly to him.
Furthermore, I see him regularly and live close to him making him
accessible and easy to arrange times to film as well as re-film should I
need to. He can drive which is an important feature for one of my shots
where he pulls up in a car after his travel to the forest. This also makes
it easy to get to the forest as we don’t have to depend on public
transport and can go whenever is easy for us. To continue, he has
similar style and features to Elliot Moss making it look even more like it
is the star in the video and so that anyone that knows Elliot Moss
doesn’t find the video too disorientating with it not being the same
face they are used to. I have also used him multiple times before for my
A Level photography work and have found his easy to work with
meaning the filming process should hopefully be less stressful.
