2. This short film, looks at a day in the life of the drag queen: Miss Gendered,
showing that not everyone is as happy as they seem, and the crippling side
effects of trolls on the internet, along with the harm it causes. What if
people thought before they typed these horrific things? and thought about
the person reading these comments, but what also if the people reading
knew their worth and didn’t let it get to them? The film looks at Miss
Gendered getting ready into hair, makeup and costume to go out and
perform, she comes back to the dressing room knackered from performing,
but a series of troll messages sharply changes her mood, we see the true
unfiltered version of Miss Gendered and how she is struggling to cope, we
see a raw stripped down version, while she breaks down and shows all her
feelings, showing this is not the first time she has seen these kinds of
messages.
3. Setting: A changing room/dressing
room where Miss Gendered is
getting ready to go out and
perform. But also a stage with
colourful lights and loud over the
top music to help convey his
personality. For the backstage
scene I would like a big mirror that
Mis Gendered is sitting in front of.
Props: colourful wigs on
display, makeup spread
over the dressing table,
including bright colourful
colours. I would also like a
rail of costumes in the
backgroud, with lots of
sequins and feathers.
The mood varies throughout the film , it starts off with Miss
gendered getting ready, so the mood is quite light , the
mood then changes to a very upbeat atmosphere when she
is performing, and quickly shifts when we see her break
down in front of the mirror
4. Key characters:
Miss Gendered is the leading role throughout the whole
short film, as it focuses on a day in her life and the struggle
she is overcoming, we don’t see many other people,
suggesting that she Is pushing people way when she feels at
her lowest. Other characters that are seen is the audience,
as well as pictures of people online who are trolling her.
Miss Gendered's personality is very bold and confident from
the outside, anyone that would see her, would describe her
as loud and outgoing, she is very tall and has brown eyes,
her makeup is always bold and expressive and matches her
wig and outfit. But what people don’t see is the vulnerable
side, which has been stripped down and struggling to
remain positive.
6. Visual style:
The angels that I would like to use are lots of close ups when Miss Gendered is in the
dressing room getting into drag, including close ups of the makeup and close ups and
zooms in off his face. I would like to use an extreme close-up on certain parts of his face
when he is applying the makeup, including eyes and lips. I feel that some long shots of
the dressing room could also be effective as it will show his entire figure in the shot , and
the space he is getting ready in. I would like to position my camera at high angle to
create the effect, as well as an eye-level angle. Filming may be difficult as he is in front of
a big mirror, so I will need to be careful to not film myself in the mirror, meaning the
cameras positioning and angels will be very important throughout my filming.
For the scene when he is on stage, I would like to use extreme long shots to establish the
shot and set, panning over the audience, zooming in on certain audience faces, then
back to the stage. I would like to film a couple of different angels from next to the stage,
then as if I'm sitting in the audience, then from on stage to capture certain facial
expressions and body language.
7. Soundscape
• For music, I would like some background music at the end , that he is getting
ready to, as there will be no other audio, I would also like to edit in audience
chatter, which I can create when I'm filming then edit over the scenes of him
getting ready.
• For the scene of Miss Gendered performing I will put the audio of the music
playing back over the clips, as the audio may get lost in the background, and I
want the music to be very present and a key feature in that scene.
• There will not be much dialogue throughout the short film, the only time
there will be is chatter within the audience, and maybe odd words from Miss
Gendered in despair when she is breaking down. I want minimal dialogue so the
audience can focus in on the raw emotions and distress, I think this will be
effective and help people understand what she is going through.
• Ambient sound will include, a background noise of the boiler running, as well
as audience chatter.
8. Target audience:
I think my target audience will be teens, and young adults, however drag is becoming more and more popular
which all age groups, so it could target a lot of people not just necessarily one group. I think it will mainly attract
teens and young adults, due to the fun atmosphere of drag and makeup, but also will show how toxic it can be
which will appeal to a more mature audience.
