2. OWNERSHIP
• Celador is a production company that was formed in
1983. it produced popular light entertainment shows and
the most famous is who wants to be a millionaire?.
Celador was set up and Jasper Carrott and Paul Smith
CBE. Under the ownership of complete communications
who brought out Celador, Celador went on to expand its
fledgling radio, film and international businesses.
Complete Communications announced they were selling
the company in which lead Celador to buy out the
company which lead them to becoming a independent
again.
3. OPERATING MODEL
• With The Descent, Celador used another company called Pathé. They
were co-funded by Pathé in order to make the descent. They did this
by selling the distribution rights to Pathé so they would have the
money to produce the film. Celador is a small company and wouldn’t
have had the money to make a big film like The Descent so they
would have being co-funded by another smaller company. Celador
could have also used profits from other films. Celador used their
previous profits to make the Descent but didn’t have enough that ’s
when Pathe came in. Northman production produced the film when
Celador produced the money.
• The Crew was all free lance and was brought in. Celador are a
management company so all the crew they use are free lance. This is
good because they can have many projects working at once.
4. PRODUCTS
• Celador have produced numerous of films such as
Selma, Centurion, The Scouting Book For Boys, The
Descent and The Descent part 2. they also produce
television programmes such as All About Me, The
Detectives and You Are What You Eat. Celador have
also done theatre as slumdog millionaire in London’s
West End. Celador use radio as well on The Breeze
Network and Jack FM Stations. All together Celador
have 18 radio stations
5. MARKET POSITION/COMPETITORS
• Celador produced The Descent on a budget of £3.5 Million and produced a total gross of
$57,029,609. this was a successful production by celador.
• DNA Films is another independent UK based film production company and produced a
film called 28 days later. The film had a budget of £8million and has got a total gross
$82,719,855. DNA films were doing better than Celador with their production of 28 days
later.
• Film 4 productions is another company and produced a film called 127 hours with co-production
with Pathé. The film had a budget of $18,000,000 and a total gross of
$60,738,797.
• Sony pictures entertainment is a larger film company and produce the Spiderman films
with an estimated budget of $139,000,000 and has got a total gross of $821,708,551 out
of all the 3 other companies as it is a big Hollywood movie.
• Celador isn't doing as well as DNA films in terms of market share and isn’t doing as well
as well as Film4 productions with 127 Hours but the main contender is Sony pictures
Entertainment which is a big Hollywood blockbuster.
