• Celador is a independent entertainment company which was form in 1983.
Celador is known to produce popular movies and television programs such as Who
wants To Be A Millionaire? Celador also owns eighteen UK radio stations.
• Celador was originally taken over by Complete Communications, which bought out
shareholders including Paul Smith CBE and Jasper Carrott. Under the ownership of
Complete, Celador expanded its fledgling radio, film and international businesses.
Later, Complete Communications announced its intention to sell the company.
Around the same time as the sell off of Celador International, the rights and
associated properties of Who wants To Be A Millionaire? to Dutch group
2waytraffic, Celador Productions' management completed a buy out of the
company.
• Celador sued Disney for showing Who wants To Be A Millionaire? in the US without
buying permission. Celador won the court case and the company were awarded
£177m.
3. Operating model
• Celador is a global light entertainment company which makes films on a
project by project basis by contracting free lance staff.
• It was originally formed as an independent production company in 1983.
• When the company initially started up they needed a fund to use for
operations and productions called ‘initial capitalization’, this can be
finance from bank loans, investors and personal savings.
• To date Celador owns eighteen UK radio stations as of March 2013.
• Celador will make deals with other small companies in order to build
partnerships with them and to make deals of co-funding when making
money to be enabled to produce films.
• Celador can also license the project to big production companies and
distributers before the project has been made, this is another way of
operating an financing.
• Furthermore, they can also get finance from funding bodies, which they
might have done when initially started up.

• Celador has produced a number of popular television shows and is best known for
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and co-producing the film Slumdog Millionaire which
was awarded seven BAFTAs, four Golden Globes and eight Oscars , as well as Best
Director and Best Picture in 2009.

• Celador’s main competitors include The Ambassador Theater group LTD,
Bauer Radio LTD and The Local Radio Co LTD. As well as Sony Pictures
Entertainment, as they releases Spiderman in 2002 which was releases as
the same time as Celador’s Dirty Pretty Things.
• Celador have been quite successful over the last 10 years, as they have
released 7 films over the time period.
• Film 4 Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment are also occasionally
