2. Ownership
The company ,Celador, were originally formed in 1983 by
Jasper Carrot. They are for creating the popular quiz show
who wants to be a millionaire in 1998 and also helped on
the popular film Slumdog Millionaire in 2008. Due to
their success they were bought by complete Complete
Communications. Recently they bought themselves out
and became an independent company and are known as
Celador entertainment. Celador isn't just a movie
production team. Celador entertainment actually have
three companies supported by Celador. They are Celador
films, Celador radio and Celador theatrical.
3. Operating Model
Celador isn't a very big company and usually create films
with freelancers instead of tying them down to contracts,
like actors and directors. Small companies like Celador
often get their funding from initial capitalisation which is
from things like bank loans or investors. They could also
do deals with other small companies because its easier to
be co funded. They are also a subsidiary, which means
they are funded by a parent company as Celador is a big
company that distributes to three other of their
companies. Pathe is a distribution company that bought
the rights to The Descent before it was even made. They
used the money to co-fund the film.

Celador are a small company and tend not to sell their films
worldwide. They do not always make a huge profit either. Since they're
based in the UK they tend not to sell well and they have also only
made a handful of films. Celador films biggest competitors for example
are Sony. Sony made $890 million with Spiderman 3 and usually make
the bigger films that go global. For Spiderman 3, it had a budget of
$258 million . Another rival is DNA Films. They are an independent
British film company who made films such as 28 days later. These are
more local rivals who's films usually don’t go world wide but do
considerably well in the UK. 28 days later made $82 million worldwide
from its $8 million budget in comparison to The Descents $57 million
worldwide from its $3.5 million. Celador are not as successful as Sony
but has similar profits to companies like Film 4.
