Ownership
Celador is a entertainment company which was owned by
Paul Smith and Jasper Carrott. formed as an independent
production company in 1983 it produced films such as slum
dog millionaire, in 1998 the company Celador made TV quiz
show “who wants to be a millionaire” they were taken over by
complete communications who then sold them, more recently
they brought them self out and become independent.
Operating model.
Small independent companies like celador will do deals with
other similar small companies to make more money they also
hire free lance staff to get there films made.
Celador also use there profits from other films to make new
projects
Celador could operate through distortion by selling the project to
the seller before it is made.
To make the company originally they must of have some funding
from a bank or the lottery with this money they will pay free lance
staff to go out and make the films by doing this its easier and
faster to create a film. The funding for the decent was made
from profits and also selling distribution rights to pathè.
Products.
 Celador started making a film in 1999 some of the best films
are:
 Slumdog millionaire(2008)
 The descent(2005)
 Dirty pretty things (2002
 The descent part 2 (2009)
 the scouting book for boys (2009)
Celador are now also working on 18 radio stations, theater
productions and also music production.
They also produced plenty of TV shows such as
How wants to be a millionaire
 All about me BBC
 The detectives BBC
 You are what you eat channel 4
Market position and competitors
 Celador are in clear competition with other main selling film companies but
compared to some major companies like Sony they earn a lot less.
Where as the bigger film producers such as Sony make a lot more money but
that is only because there films are a lot more known for example the film
amazing Spiderman 2 they had a budget of $200 million and made about
$700 million.
Another reason for Sony to make more money then Celador is because in the
past 2 years Sony have released 7 major films where as Celador have only
released a few films in the matter of 10 years. Another film is 28 days later
made by DNA films the budget for the film is £5million and the box office price
they made was £52,833,190.55
Film 4 productions also created the film This is England which the budget for
the film was £1,472,500 and the profit they made was £5,058,600.
Celador is a lot more successful that film 4 because they are a bigger film company but
Sony is makes a lot more money than Celador which makes Sony more successful than
Celador.
