Its main production centres are based in universal city in California but it does have other office and distribution space in New York. The studio is one of the world’s oldest having been founded in 1912; it was setup by 8 people which include pat powers and Carl Laemmle. They have a number or studio locations which include universal Orlando, Hollywood, Japan, and Singapore. Its parent company is nbcuniversal and the studio does have a number of sub production companies that work of it such as universal animation studios, focus features and illumination entertainment. It was in 1900 that Americas first motion picture industry was formed previous companies that founders had setup before Yankee film company that became the independent moving pictures company and the star system had evolved the company’s had become very popular by the start of the 1913’s location was to become the start of a change in the company in 1915 one of the key founders Laemmle opened a new production centre in Hollywood that at the time was the world’s largest the company was now working under a new name universal city studios had become today’s universal studios. Today the studio producers and distributes its films and has exhibition venues. The key founder always wanted to make sure that leadership stayed in the family so in 1928 laemmle made his son head of the studio but due to modernisation needs Laemmle was forced to quit. Universal today is a global production brand and its films are produced and sold all over the world. it works in competition against other well known studios such as paramount pictures. Because of its popularity and success over many decades universal has continued to grow and to make big films with big stars playing lead roles. The company formed and became one with the Toronto stock exchange in 1986 which made the company public. Lions gate investors worked really hard to get the company into the film industry the company bought many small production facilities and office space and began to get the company ready to produce film. It bought properties in Montreal and called them lions gate films and other properties north shore studios and call it lion’s gate studios. Due to a bankrupt investor lions gate share price begun to drop and it lost revenue of around $397 thousand it made another purchase for a TV production company and switched from Toronto to the American stock exchange. With further purchases lions gate made further loses in the millions and was forced to sell up in the turn of the century with new leadership and a new outlook and plan for the company they were given a $33.1 million investment. The company began to make record purchases for new production centres buying 8 different properties from 2000 to 2009 before selling a 49% stake in its TV guide network. In 2009 it decided to cut back on the amount of films they made a year as it signed a deal with relativity media for a five picture a year film distribution contract not long after it signed the same deal with red box in a contract worth $158 million. Since October 2009 lions gate has been co owner of epix a TV channel with other film producing company’s such as MGM. Lions gate then in 2010 signed a deal with televise to produce 10 films in 5 years for pantelion films. 2012 sore what was to become the biggest buy the company will ever make for summit entertainment costing them $412.5 million but lion’s gate has just announced they have passed $1 billion in sales due to the big releases such as the hunger games and twilight part 2. Due to investments in TV and production lions gate has been very successful in television producing many well known shows such as the dead zone.
