Attack the block:
poster review:
The film attack the block is a hybrid genre film of urban comedy and horror/sci-fi
It was released on the 13th May 2011 (UK) it was directed by Joe Cornish and the
production companies that have produced it were:
Studio Canal (presents) (as Studio Canal Features)
Film4 (presents)
UK Film Council (presents)
Big Talk Productions (as Big Talk Pictures)
It attracts two audiences those who appeal of the film being a comedy, but the main
audience it is trying to reach is the younger audience preferably viewers between
the ages of 15 (film certification)-34 years old. It also attracts some viewers who like
hybrid genres and viewers who like sci-fi, action and horror as the film has many
elements of genres.
The purpose of a film poster are to draw a specific audience in to watch that film
there are many elements you have to include but I will get to that shortly. The types
of places you will find these posters are on buses, underground tube
stations, billboards, cinema walls, internet, TV etc..
The asteroids notes

towards the poster.

also the kids carrying weapons they should
not have is promoting the comedy genre to
the audience this will draw the younger
audience in because they
Can relate to the young
Characters.
The tagline ā€˜inner

specifically shows
the audience the
narrative of the
film. Telling them
something is going
to happen between
them.
The name of the film
is constructed for
the audiences
understanding
ā€˜attack the blockā€™
telling them the
block is going to be
attacked. This draws
the audience that
like action in.
The characters have been constructed to appeal to the target audience because they
are young there are many other characters in this film but this is the main aim to
get young characters so the audience can relate to them.
Another reason why they appeal to the target audience is their ethnicity there are
characters from many backgrounds and different ethnicity this is because they
want to broaden their target audience the target audience can also relate to the
characters.
Also another technique they use to draw the audience in is by their unity
their(gang) this will invite groups of friends to watch this film because they can
relate to the characters and the decisions they make together.
Their clothing also draws the audience in because they are wearing urban clothing
which draws the younger audience in because they will be wearing the same thing.
Also the posture that they are standing in the boy in the front is standing slightly
slanted ready to fight, this shows that he is courageous and the audience will
aspire to be like him their for go and watch the film.
Also the props that they have things like the bikes and the poles are usually things
you can find in an urban area the audience can relate and will be drawn in because
they live in the same kind of environment as them.
The reason why they have included the older
adult male, again, is so they can widen their
target audience, he also smokes weed which is a
big part in the movie audiences that like this type
of comedy (stoner comedy) will be invited to
watch the film. He is also wearing the urban
typical clothing this will also draw the older
adults that are still in touch with their younger
side will be invited to watch it.
They reason why they have put the adult
female in is because usually people do not
come to watch films that have youths and
gangs involved, but because they have added
this woman who is dressed formally and
looks like a normal person people can relate to
her and their for will be sucked in to watch the
film.
These constructions have been added so it can appeal to people outside the main
target audience, this is effective because it draws people that would not usually
want to watch these films in.
As you can see in the poster behind the
characters there is a block which is big
but also the camera angle is low giving
two opposing views the first would be
that the block is dangers and they have
to escape the other would be that the
block is theirs and that they have to
protect it. Another technique they have
used is by putting buildings from central
London in the second background.
This will draw the audience in because people that live outside of London will see the
setting of the story and that it will be in the block. But the people that live in London
will be drawn in because they can relate to the environment of the poster. This will also
show the audience what city it is being showed in this will draw the audiences in
because London is a very iconic place.
The reason why they have put down by the producers of Shawn of the dead is because
it was a very successful British film the people that liked the Shawn of the dead
would like this as well, this is effective because it also widens the audience bringing
people that would not usually watch these types of movies together and Vic versa.

Attack the block: poster review: The film attack the block is a hybrid genre film of urban comedy and horror/sci-fi It was released on the 13th May 2011 (UK) it was directed by Joe Cornish and the production companies that have produced it were: Studio Canal (presents) (as Studio Canal Features) Film4 (presents) UK Film Council (presents) Big Talk Productions (as Big Talk Pictures) It attracts two audiences those who appeal of the film being a comedy, but the main audience it is trying to reach is the younger audience preferably viewers between the ages of 15 (film certification)-34 years old. It also attracts some viewers who like hybrid genres and viewers who like sci-fi, action and horror as the film has many elements of genres. The purpose of a film poster are to draw a specific audience in to watch that film there are many elements you have to include but I will get to that shortly. The types of places you will find these posters are on buses, underground tube stations, billboards, cinema walls, internet, TV etc..
  • 2. The asteroids notes the sci-fi element towards the poster. Them being kids trying to save the world and also the kids carrying weapons they should not have is promoting the comedy genre to the audience this will draw the younger audience in because they Can relate to the young Characters. The tagline ā€˜inner city vs. outer spaceā€™ specifically shows the audience the narrative of the film. Telling them something is going to happen between them. The name of the film is constructed for the audiences understanding ā€˜attack the blockā€™ telling them the block is going to be attacked. This draws the audience that like action in.

The characters have been constructed to appeal to the target audience because they are young there are many other characters in this film but this is the main aim to get young characters so the audience can relate to them. Another reason why they appeal to the target audience is their ethnicity there are characters from many backgrounds and different ethnicity this is because they want to broaden their target audience the target audience can also relate to the characters. Also another technique they use to draw the audience in is by their unity their(gang) this will invite groups of friends to watch this film because they can relate to the characters and the decisions they make together. Their clothing also draws the audience in because they are wearing urban clothing which draws the younger audience in because they will be wearing the same thing. Also the posture that they are standing in the boy in the front is standing slightly slanted ready to fight, this shows that he is courageous and the audience will aspire to be like him their for go and watch the film. Also the props that they have things like the bikes and the poles are usually things you can find in an urban area the audience can relate and will be drawn in because they live in the same kind of environment as them.

The reason why they have included the older adult male, again, is so they can widen their target audience, he also smokes weed which is a big part in the movie audiences that like this type of comedy (stoner comedy) will be invited to watch the film. He is also wearing the urban typical clothing this will also draw the older adults that are still in touch with their younger side will be invited to watch it. They reason why they have put the adult female in is because usually people do not come to watch films that have youths and gangs involved, but because they have added this woman who is dressed formally and looks like a normal person people can relate to her and their for will be sucked in to watch the film. These constructions have been added so it can appeal to people outside the main target audience, this is effective because it draws people that would not usually want to watch these films in.

As you can see in the poster behind the characters there is a block which is big but also the camera angle is low giving two opposing views the first would be that the block is dangers and they have to escape the other would be that the block is theirs and that they have to protect it. Another technique they have used is by putting buildings from central London in the second background. This will draw the audience in because people that live outside of London will see the setting of the story and that it will be in the block. But the people that live in London will be drawn in because they can relate to the environment of the poster. This will also show the audience what city it is being showed in this will draw the audiences in because London is a very iconic place.
  • 6. The reason why they have put down by the producers of Shawn of the dead is because it was a very successful British film the people that liked the Shawn of the dead would like this as well, this is effective because it also widens the audience bringing people that would not usually watch these types of movies together and Vic versa.
