Teaser/TV ad trailers are easy to recognise as they don’t have a lot of scenes, instead they
have the important information’s such as they date, name and a short mixed clip to show the
outline of the film.

Theatrical trailers are easy to identify as they have a narrative of the deeper meaning of the film
as well as more scenes of not only the protagonist but also other characters. As ‘A walk among
the tombstones’ shows there is Liam Neeson the main character and the other guy that making
business with the protagonist. As well as the plot and characters there is also the important
dates that are shown.
 How does the editing (including sound)create a narrative.
- The editing such as the pace shows that the genre of the film is action because of the fast pace
editing and the fast pace music which adds to the tension.
 Analyse the visual style and editing of the trailer
- The visual style of the scene where we see the protagonist in a effect of black and white
changing to the colour effect shows how time has passed giving a clear sense of when it was
the past an then the current situation.
- The visual style of where the girl is in the car an we see a reflection on the mirror has a great
effect to the trailer as the audience can spot it but the people in the film can not which forms a
sense of mystery and thrill to the atmosphere.
- The clip where the girl is looking towards the camera also is a visual style which is appealing to
the audience as it questions Why? Who? What? The point of view shot shows a lot such as the
danger she is in and may even expose the fact that she is what the narrative revolves around

- The genre signifiers the trailer uses is the sound, editing and the props. These all help the
audience identify who and what is the film about. For example the sound is music playing in
the back. The music is fast pace with a soft voice which gives signifiers to what type of genre
it is (which is action). The editing is also fast pace which shows that the movie is action as it
creates a sense of atmosphere.
 How are intertitles utilised - what do they say and what is the effect?
- The intertitles are utilise by showing how it’s the ‘based on the best novel’ and there are
phrases such as ‘walk beyond the law’ which are also ways of giving the audience knowledge
about the film through words. For example the phrase ‘walk beyond the law’ will show that the
film revolves around the characters being involved with illegal activity’s such as kilings.
 What do the audience learn about the actors, directors, producers of the film and are
there any intertextual references.
- The audience are not exposed to any sort of intertextual references though the protagonist
actor is a well known actor which may capture the audiences attention.

- The central image is the protagonist character which does link to the trailer as we see him a lot in
it. This is good for the audience as they can identify the film straight away because of the character
being iconic to the film.
 Are there any secondary graphics
- The only secondary graphics that are shown is the background of which may be seen as the
setting of the film. This too is iconic for the audience as they can identify the film through the style
of the graphics. For example the use of black and white effect which is shown through the trailer is
also shown in the poster.
 What fonts are used - do they synergise with the trailer?
- The font that are used in the poster as well as the trailer are similar though not exactly identical.
This means that they don’t synergies fully but it is quite easy to spot that they are both the same
film.
 Is there a tagline that is used in the poster that is used in the trailer?
- There is a tagline that is used in the poster but not in the trailer which is ‘People are afraid of all
the wrong things’
 Would you say that it is a teaser poster or the pre release poster?
- I would say that it is a pre release poster as it has a tagline, main protaginist and the important
dates on it, whereas a teaser would not have a detailed image with lots of information.
 What is the colour palette of the poster does it match the visual style of the trailer?
- The colour palette of the poster does match the trailers visual style as It uses the black and white
effect with a hint of red.
