1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
2. Teaser Trailer
Below are images of the three teaser trailers that we research for an idea
for our Main Task Teaser Trailer: The Zodiac, A Dark Reflection and Lucy.
We chose the film Zodiac teaser trailer because it was easy to remake but
it was also similar to the genre we had decided for our teaser trailer. We
chose the film A Dark Reflection because its based on journalists trying to
find out about toxic chemicals in planes and this fitted well with the
planning of our teaser trailer as our main characters were going to be
journalists trying to find out where and how Abbie, had gone missing and
finally we chose the teaser trailer Lucy to use in our research because the
main character is a dominant women which fits to our teaser trailer
because our group consists of four girls which means the main character
will be a women. Also all of these teaser trailers that we researched, all
have a similar genre to our teaser trailer, Action/Mystery.
3. Teaser Trailer - Camerawork
We decided to use a variety of shots for our
teaser trailer because the teaser trailers we
had researched had also used a variety of
shots. Such as; Establishing shot, Long shot,
Mid shot, Close up shot, Extreme close up
shot, high angle shots. Below are examples of
our teaser trailer and researched films using
similar shots.
Below are two close up shots from the teaser
trailer Lucy and our teaser trailer shutterbug.
Above are two establishing shots. One from
shutterbug and A dark reflection. From these
shots you can see the location of the film.
4. Teaser Trailer - Editing
We mainly used cross-cut and continuity editing. This was because we wanted
to cut from many different scenes to show the important clips to our audience.
We then wanted to use continuity editing as well because we wanted some of
our clips in our teaser trailer to run smoothly together.
Shot 1 Shot 2 Shot 3 Shot 4 Shot 5
Above is an example of
cross-cut editing in our
teaser trailer 'Shutterbug'.
When editing our teaser trailer,
we used effects to help make
our teaser trailer more
interesting to our target
audience.
5. Teaser Trailer -Sound
When researching for sound, I listened to the soundtrack of A Dark Reflection, Lucy and The Zodiac. A Dark
Reflection and The Zodiac both used strings in their soundtracks to emphasize the important features of
their teaser trailer but also the mystery in their teaser trailers. Therefore I decided that on the software
garageband I would try and create a soundtrack similar to these two teaser trailers with using the sound of
violins.

Diegietc sound that we used in our teaser trailer,
'Shutterbug'.

Shutterbug.

6. Film Poster - Research
On the right is the film poster for the film 'A
Dark Reflection'. On this poster, they have used
taglines, for example: 'What happened on flight
313?' they have used this tagline because they
want to draw the audience into the mystery of
the film. There is use of a billing block, which
gives a bit more information to the audience
about the actors, the production, the
distribution companies and companies who
have supported the film. There are variety of
pictures to visually show the audience what the
film is about. For the main title they have also
made sure itโs the biggest font on the film
poster, so it stands out to the audience. From
this film poster, are final film poster is similar to
some of the conventions from this film poster.
7. Film Poster - Shutterbug
To the right is our final film poster for our main
task teaser trailer, Shutterbug. Straight away from
looking, you can see that we have followed film
poster conventions by using big bold font the main
title, using images of the main characters, using a
few critics and taglines to draw the audience in. A
billing block, a release date and a certificate rating.
I also think that the background of our film poster
catches the eye straight away as its unique. The
background is a collage of newspaper, we chose to
do this because we thought it fitted well with our
theme of Journalism.
To the right, I have analyzed our film poster a bit
more to give a bit more information about it.
8. Film Magazine - Research
To the right is a the film magazine 'Total
Film'. I decided to research this film
magazine as its quite well known and as
you can see from the image, the film
magazine follows a lot of the conventions.
However even though I had analyzed
different film magazines to the one that
we based our final film magazine, it was
still useful to understand how they used
the different conventions.
9. Film Magazine - Shutterbug
To the right is our final film magazine for our main task teaser trailer,
Shutterbug. We decided to follow the conventions of the film
magazine because it is a independant film magazine and we felt it
was the best magazine that would fit to our theme of our main task
teaser trailer, Shutterbug.
To the right is our final film
magazine and to the left is one of
the original Sight & Sound film
magazines. As you can see, we
have tried to keep ours very
similar with the image I the
middle, the date at the top, the
barcode on the side and the main
title down of the film down the
bottom of the film magazine with
a few extras underneath.
