2. Trailer
• Is it a teaser trailer or a theatrical trailer - how do we know?
- We know that it is a theatrical trailer as it is longer than a
minuet an consists of significant scenes from the film as well
as important information such as when it is released.
• How does the editing create a narrative
- The editing creates a narrative as it uses music and sound to
create flash backs of the protagonists past. The visual images
used are also significant as they show the flashbacks and the
turn to the current situation the protagonist is in.
- What I find is really well done is the use of slow-mo effect as it
works well to creating enigma codes to what will be
happening next in the film. I think that it gives away a little
too much on the trailer in which I have taken into
consideration for my own trailer.
3. • How are intertitles utilised - what do they say and what is the effect?
- The intertitles used such as ‘this is the signal’ has an effect to the
audience in terms of getting them to think and engage into the film
more. The intertitles also is a way to show a bit more to the audience
as it is in text they feel as if the trailer is talking to them.
• Genre signifiers that are used are elements such as the music and
the visual images. For example the montages of the past life and the
current life shows that it is a film consisting of the aftermath of what
had happened in the past. It could connote that it is a sci-fi/thriller
genre due to the way the montages are put together to show the
audience what should be expected.
5. • What is the central image - how does it link with the trailer?
- The central image of the poster is the secondary characters in
the trailer. This links well to the trailer as there is a clear use
of the same colours and visual images but I believe it would
have me clear sense if they used the protagonist characters
instead as it will be more iconic to the audience in terms of
identifying what film it is.
6. • Is there a tagline that is used in the poster that is used in the
trailer?
- There is a clear tagline that is used in the poster and said in
the film trailer. “Are you agitated” is said several of times in
the trailer which relates well to the poster as the audience will
recognise the link between the both.
• What is the colour palette of the poster does it match the
visual style of the trailer?
- The colour palette of the poster synergises with the trailer as
we see a lot of white, empty spaced scenes which links well
with the poster. The colour mix of white and grey is also a
good way to set genre signifiers to the audience as they can
tell it is a sci-fi/thriller film.
