Roles & Responsibilities
1. Set top box Boot loader validation for various set top box platforms
Overview:-Samsung being a set top box manufacturer develops bootloader and driver for its
various customers.
Activities:
1. Creation of test plan based on requirement, working on review comments.
2. Testing of functionality of Bootloader in the set top box.
3. upgrading bootloaders using USB as well as some propriety methods
4. Testing of read /write functionality of NAND/NOR flash memories.
5. Security testing of bootloder software.
6. Execution during pre field trial and Acceptance test at overseas customer’s site.
7. Filing defects in the Defect Tracking System and driving them to closure.
8. Working closely with the Development team to ensure that the code developed is
testable - are the logs sufficient, should any test hooks be built into the code, is there
enough debug information available in case of failure, etc
9. Analyzing failures and determining root cause, setting the expectations of the
solution/behavior based on the requirements.
2. Device Driver & STB features Functional Validation
Samsung is set top box manufacture for its various customers. Along with the HW, what
Samsung offers is low level drivers and boot loader.
Also they have their own Mass Production tools for STB production

3. Samsung is developing an high end Hybrid set top box (IP+ TNT) based on RDK which
support HEVC decoding , http live streaming for av service along with multi tuner record
capability as well as features like VOD , multi room PVR You tube etc
Responsibilities –
1. Hardware validation using in-house applications.
2. Driver validation using in-house application.
3. In field testing of fully functional middleware at fetch tv office, Sydney.
4. Testing of advanced stb features like you tube, multiform pvr , mobile / tablet

Client:-Cisco Chennai (worked on Cisco Site)
Cisco is deploying their next generation set top boxes to various cable TV customers like
TWC, COX along with their OCAP based Stacks.
Responsibilities:
♦ Testing of set-top stacks and in their releases to some of the major customers.
♦ Involved in stack upgrade/downgrade process on STB.
♦ Testing of different types of bootloaders running on STBs.
♦ Testing of cable card module on OCAP Boxes.
♦ Involved in End to End testing of STBs.
♦ Integration/Regression Testing of Different features like MRDVR,EmergencyAlert
system,EPG,

client server environment.
ODN (OCAP Digital Navigator), MDN (Mystro Digital Navigator), MAS (Mystro Application Server)
are the next generation middleware solution purely based on Java / J2ee Technology. CATV
includes Live TV, Program Guide, PPV, VOD, MRDVR, DVR (dual tuner), start over TV, PIP, Time
Shift TV, Pause Live TV, etc.

 Review of SRSs, deriving test cases by understanding the SRS, Functional and UI Design
