2. Election Commission and its role The Election Commission of India is an autonomous constitutional body of the nation. It ensures its observance by political party(ies) in power, including ruling parties at the centre and in the States and contesting candidates in the discharge of its constitutional duties for conducting free, fair and peaceful elections. It was established on January 25, 1950 under Article 324 of the Indian Constitution.
4. Structure of the Election Commission The commission presently consists of a Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners , appointed by the President of India.
7. What is the Model code of conduct? The Model code of conduct is a set of norms which has been evolved with the consensus of political parties who; have consented to abide by the principles embodied in the said code and also binds them to respect and observe it in its letter and spirit.
