1. Pitch M.D. ‘The Doctor will see you now.’ An Action/Conspiracy/Horror film
2. PLOt A once well meaning doctor has changed. His surgery, which, in times past was a place of healing and recovery, is now a testament to torturous tests; and his subjects never come out… alive. Danielle, a recently graduated medical student, receives a letter of invitation offering him what seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity to work on the cutting edge of scientific research. He has no idea just how ‘cutting edge’ the research truly is. The plot development focuses around Danielle’s slow discovery that his employer is not all that he seems, and his attempts to both get out alive, and stop the crazed Surgeon once and for all. A secondary plotline involves the doctors backstory, and the reason and cause for his most unusual fascination with the macabre.
3. Characters Strange Surgeon Danielle – Assistant who has just graduated from university. Policeman’s voice on the phone A few people to go into the surgery
4. Filming The location we are planning to film in is Castlefield house. With a high degree of medical related props, such as science coats from the college science labs, we believe we can faithfully recreate a reasonably realistic research lab environment. In terms of shooting style, we will use a large number of jarring quick cuts as well as narrative ellipsis to emphasize the danger of the environment as well as the desired unsettling mood for the film.
5. Influences Our first influence was ‘Sweeney Todd’, because of the correlation between the idea of a mad surgeon and a crazed barber. ‘Paranormal Activity’ was another influence because of the interesting filming style and the effect it has on the audience. ‘Se7en’ was also an influence as it means of creating tension was original and effective. Its characters were also similar to those we wish to portray. The opening credits of ‘The ward’ made us think about the choice of music to use. ‘The disappearance of Alice Creed’ beginning was also an influence.
6. Target audience Our target audience would be those with an interest in the horror genre, as well as those interested in conspiracy thrillers. This means that our film will most likely appeal most to those between 18-29 years of age.
7. Advertising style Our main means of advertising would be through word of mouth and viral advertising. Our adverts would be highly ambiguous, leaving most of the details of the film to the viewers imagination. This would inspire curiosity in the viewers and thereby attract (hopefully) a large market audience and film following. Our film would feature in articles in smaller magazines such as Sight and Sound as horror films are generally more niche than blockbusters such as Transformers and Avatar.
