Chapter 3 questions
• When you have trouble doing something, what is your first reaction – to try again, or
to give up? If I fail at something I usually learn from it and adjust my approach and try
it again, especially when im confident that I did well on the task. For example, if I took
a test and was sure that I did good but the results end up the opposite I would usually
ask the instructor about the assignment.
• Do people perceive their own strengths accurately? Do you see strengths in others
that they don’t see in themselves? Yes people usually at times perceive their own
strengths. They might know the specifics but they generally get the gist of what there
good at, something’s are just easier for them and they realized that early on. And it is
possible to notice someone’s strength that they themselves don’t notice.
• If you had taught Dr. Bishop in college but didn’t know about her learning disability,
what would you have assumed about her? What might an instructor who doesn’t
know you well assume about you that is not accurate? I would have assume that
college was to much of a challenge for her and she would have had to work three
times as hard as a normal student to have had obtained the degree she has now. An
instructor that doesn’t know me well probably would easily notice that I hardly give
my all in each assignment. For instance, in highschool I rarely did home work but did
magnificent when it came to tests because I paid attention and asked questions in
class. My professors quickly noticed that about me.
• What does Dr. Bishop’s story mean for you? To me it just shows that everybody has
their own strength and weaknesses and noticing your own weakness would be very
beneficial in your path of learning.
• What effects go beyond your world?
• What can you learn from Dr. Bishop about learning preferences and learning
disabilities? You can learn your strengths and weaknesses.
• What can you learn from Dr. Bishop about analytical, creative, and practical thinking?
They are each different and a person can be strong on one of them but weak in the
other, whatever the strength of that person will be the best way he or she is able to
learn
