QuestionTwo
How doesyourmediaproductrepresentparticularsocial groups?
In a normal filmthatfollowsthe conventionsforafilmwouldmake sure thattheyfollow the
stereotype representedbythatparticularsocial group sothat it seemsmore realistictothe
audience andseta feasible equilibrium.
In our filmopeningwe have decidedtochallenge the stereotype of anupperclassmanwho would
normallyhave all of the powerandplace himin a situationwhere he hasnopowerat all.We have
done thisso that itrepresentsthe change inpowerinthisnew worldafterthe apocalypse and
showsthat the people have some power. The manrepresentsahigherclasswhite male thatwould
be about 30 yearsold. He wasat the heightof hispowercontrollinglotsof landandthenthe people
whoare representedbythe maninmaskstake it all awayfrom himand take hislife
The four maincharacters that we use inour openingare all maskedtoshow that theyhave no
identityandthattheyrepresentall people of all agesandall ethnicities.Thisisveryimportant
because there isnotjustone social group beingrepresentedbutthere isall of theminone. The
backgroundof our characters do howevercome frombothmiddle andlowerclasspeople butthey
all worktogetherto getrid of the inequalitybetweenall of the people andmake the worldabetter
place for everyone afterthe co-operationtakesoverthe world.
The fact that he isdressedina suittellsthe audience abouthissocial
class.it saysthat he is part of the upperclassand wouldthinkthathe is
untouchable. The equilibriumthatwe have usedinthis isthat the world
isall the otherwayaround andthe once rich andpowerful andnow the
people have all of the power.thisisagainstthe stereotypethatupper
classwhite menhave powerandsuggeststhateveryone else haspower
overhim.
In thisimage youcan see one of our actors calledwill.he isall covered
up includinghisface toshow thathe isnot representingjustone social
groupbut all of them the mask representsblackandwhite people,
male and female of all ethnicities.thisgoesagainstthe normal
conventionsbecausenormallyagang of violentpeople wouldbe
portrayedbya groupof blackyoungmales.butthisfilmshows
everyone tobe againstthe co-operation.
