2. Classroom re-format
In order to reformat my
room for what I hope is a
more inspiring learning
environment I bought
some tables and built
some benches.
3. At $40 a chair there’s no way I could afford to
buy them… so I built them from 2x4’s.
4. Stage one was the
lab tables and
benches.
The remaining
desk kids were
quite put out for a
month.
5. Stage 2 was the
other tables and
chairs.
The change has
helped with
cooperative work
lessons and more
activity based
assignments.
6. State test day
My students can’t graduate if they don’t pass the state test and
who can think on an empty stomach?
Though my school offers Poptarts and Capri Sun I decry the
logic of sugaring them up to sit still and stay focused.
So I make my own breakfast for them.
8. Rewards
The extremely delayed
gratification of a good career
and paycheck is too much to
ask of some of not all children.
I try to reward short term goals
with more than just a grade.
