The document discusses the costumes, actors, and props needed for a music video. It will feature Charlie, an 18-year-old male, and Abbie, his female partner, as the lead couple. Scenes will show them spontaneously visiting various locations to portray their close friendship and youth. A car prop will be used to imply the characters are going on a road trip. Costumes will feature bright colors to match the happy mood of the house music genre.
1. Costumes, Actors, Props
Actors
The lead role for my filmwill be Charlie, a male aged 18. This
is because he can lip sync due to the artist of my film also
being male. He will also be one half of the couple who are the
lead of my music video, and is the same age as Abbie (the
female lead) so it is realistic that they would be a couple. The
entire video will be based around these two characters and as
I am filming in public locations it is likely that there will be
many strangers in the background of my shots. However, as
the camera will focus on only these characters it will highlight
everyone else’s insignificance within their relationship.
I chose actors of this age group as the audience of house music is those aged 16-24, and
therefore the audience will be able to relate to the images on the screen. For example, my
actors will be visiting a number of locations within my film and I want to create the music
video to suggest they are spontaneously on outings having fun together. Additionally, I hope
to gain some footage from a scene of a festival as this is again something which the target
audience can relate to if it is also within their interests. It is important to have characters in
a music video which the audience feel similar to as they are more likely to be interested and
therefore watch the entire video. I also hope to have some scenes with a large group of 100
to show how the group of friends are having fun but are oblivious to those around them.
This is because my video is all about how close the friendship is and they do not care about
what others think and are able to visit many places because they are young and
spontaneous. I chose my actors because I believe they have confident personalities which
will allow them to act these character effectively.
2. Props
The main prop I need is a car, this is because the characters will spend lots of time
throughout the video travelling to new locations. Additionally I can link this to the first line
of lyrics of the song: “We’re riding down the boulevard”, which could imply that the
characters are going on a road trip. I also want my video to appear to be set in summer and
therefore I will need props such as sunglasses and hats in order to imply this to the
audience. It will be difficult to re-create summer
weather so therefore will have to use colour
grading on Photoshop if the shots appear to be
slightly ‘gloomy’ due to the dark and cold
weather. I also want to film one scene on a beach
with a skateboard as I believe this is also an
interest which fits the characteristics of a young,
confident male student.
Costume
The dress code for my characters will be every day, casual clothes
with bright colours. From research of my genre and watching
existing EDMvideos I have found the artists do commonly wear
brightly coloured clothes and avoid dark shades. This may be
because the vibrant colours will reflect the mood of the music and
artists, so it wouldn’t make sense to dress the artists in dull
clothing when the music is designed to make people happy/dance.
Because of this I will use colours such as pinks/reds, blues and
yellows in the clothing choice and these vibrant colours will reflect
my actors outgoing and confident personalities. On the right is an
image of the pink jacket Abbie will wear, this is a colour which is
stereotypically female and could therefore signify her femininity
and the romance between the couple. Other clothing could include blue jeans with colourful
tops and jackets. For example Charlie will wear a blue jumper which connotes happiness
and health, suggesting to the audience that the couple are happy in their relationship and
creating a good mood of the narrative. Additionally, because I want my video to match
genre conventions (house music is often released in summer and has shots filmed in good
weather) I will dress my actors in shorts and dresses during scenes on the beach in order to
imply I filmed in this season.
