1. Calvin Harris
In this presentation I have researched the artist Calvin
Harris, he creates dance genre songs, I have
researched multiple songs that he has had in the
charts including one with Ellie Goulding. Calvin
Harris is my first choice of artist for our music video
not just because of his choice of song and lyrics but
because of the types of videos his production
company create. I like how modern and people
orientated the videos are and how he agrees with
different theorists such as Andrew Goodwin.
2. In this first video called ‘Feel so close’ I like the delayed start of
the song and how through the use of digital technology like
radios and phones the song comes across as being diegetically
played though it is obviously non diegetic. I also find it interesting
how later in the video the upbeat soundtrack contrasts against
the lyrics however it fits greatly because of the images being non
matching too because of the use of slow-motion.
3. This second video includes the artist Ellie Goulding, this song
is more romanticised because of the chosen images and
lyrics. I like how in this video equipment such as a Go-Pro is
used to make out that they are filming themselves, other
digital technology such as mobile phones were used to film
this makes the video seem more intimate.
4. This last video Summer again by Calvin Harris is my preferred
choice because of the repetitive back soundtrack making the
decisions of the images and videos used widely ranged. I also
find interesting the vulgar treatment of women in the video, it
has been done tastefully to attract a wider audience.
5. For my own music video I would definitely include ideas
and techniques from the music videos in which Calvin
Harris has been involved in. I like the intimate way the
videos are created especially I need your love with
Ellie Goulding and I am considering buying a Go-pro
and even contemplating a waterproof camera to get
some unique shots. Another favourite technique of
mine that these videos include is the use of modern
aspects of technology, the use of cars and phones
make the video more interesting to watch for the
generation of teenagers that it is aimed at.
