The document discusses the evaluation of a media project creating a music video for the fictional girl band "Scarlett Divas". It examines how the music video fits conventions of the R&B genre while challenging some, such as portraying the women in more sophisticated clothing with control over men. Feedback was received from the target audience which led to faster pacing, especially in the chorus. New media technologies were used in researching, constructing through editing software, and evaluating the project by gathering feedback on social media.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA
PRODUCTS?
Our media product fits many
conventions of a real girl-band
R&B music video including
many close-ups, costume
changes and a variety of mise-
en-scene elements including a
bar and a limousine. These are
typical for this genre of music
and also shows the
sophistication of the girl band.
3. Although our music video uses some of the
conventions for a real R&B music video, we
do challenge some of them. Many girls in
R&B music videos wear very provocative
clothing, whereas the girls in our video wear
more sophisticated clothing. The girls are very
much in control of the men featured in the
music video, showing their power and
independence. We decided to subvert the
male gaze by having the female gaze.
4. In relation to Goodwin’s theory, some of our lyrics match the
visuals such as the lines ‘of his best friend’s ride’ and ‘trying to
holla at me’.
From research, I found that many videos use
particular colours in their videos. Our main
colours used in the video are black, white and red.
Black and white are also used as the background
colours in some of the video. We also use leopard
print to show that the girls have a fierce side and
this is used a lot through the video and was also
used on my digi-pack and poster.
A very common convention of R&B music videos is to have very fast cuts.
We have used this in our video as our song is quite fast-paced; especially the
rap. This keeps the video more exciting for the audience and also matches the
beat of the music.

C O M B I N AT I O N O F YO U R M A I N
P RO D U C T A N D A N C I L L A RY T E X T S ?
I feel that the main product along with my
digipack and poster are a good combination
to show the genre of music and the style of
the girl band. The element of leopard print
from our clothing is kept to show the fierce
side to the band. I also used crystals to
show the glamorous side of the girls. The
colours black white and red are the main
colours which are also the main colours
within the video.
7. POSTER
The digipack is very recognizable from the poster
and therefore will be easy for people to find when
they are looking for the digipack. The black and
white effect on the photo makes the logo and
release information very bright and bold, again
using black white and red, keeping the leopard
print element.
The i-Tunes, HMV, amazon and ‘Scarlett Divas’ web
address is appealing to many people using the
option of ordering the digipack online. The
Scarlett Divas web address is also promoting the
band.

We received audience feedback from 17 and 18 year olds with the
majority of them female which was very helpful as this is 'Scarlett
Diva's' target audience.
The first time they viewed our video, we got many positive
comments. They liked the outfit changes and they felt that the
colours worked well.
They also felt that the mise-en-scene worked well with the ideology
of the band. One piece of constructive criticism that we received
was that the whole video needed to be as fast-paced as the rap.
They said that the chorus especially needed to be faster-paced. We
then went back to our video and added more cuts into our video,
especially the chorus. After viewing our video for a second time, we
received a lot of positive feedback. They especially enjoyed the
still images at the beginning of our video.
However, they were unsure about the end of the video.
9. ONLINE FEEDBACK
We posted our video on
Facebook, Twitter and YouTube
to receive feedback. We had
many likes on the video on
Facebook as well as 161 views
on YouTube.

TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION
AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND
E VA L UA T I O N S T A G E S ?
I first used new media
technologies to research
other music
videos,digipacks and posters
in order to analyse them. I
also used it to research
music video directors. It
also allowed me to find out
facts about music videos
and research record labels.
11. CONSTRUCTION
When constructing the music video, we
used new media technologies in order to
edit the video. We used Final Cut Pro. This
programme enabled us to add the music,
add effects including split screens, and cut
it to the music. It also made it easy to
make sure that the lip syncing was in time.
I also used Photoshop in order to design
my digipack and poster which enabled me
to edit photos, and add effects.
12. EVALUATION
Finally, I used new media technologies in
order to get feedback for my evaluation. I
used Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to
post my video on and get feedback. This
was effective as it allowed more people to
give feedback as many people within our
target audience use these social networking
sites.
Editor's Notes
The girls have a variety of costumes; black dresses with a leopard print accessory, red dresses, and a black top and leggings with a leopard print accessory for the performance.
They attract a male audience without being scantily clad.We planned to have topless men in the video to show this, but unfortunately were not able to do this. However, we still see the dominance the girls have within the video. This is especially seen during the rap as it is quite fierce and the men could be quite intimidated.
We also cut the video to the beat of the music. We found this when researching similar R&B girl bands such as Mis-Teeq.
I think that the video, digipack and poster work well together and think that the digipack is very recognizable from both the video and poster.
The colour scheme from the video is clearly recognizable here.
They especially liked the red dresses with the black background. They thought that using black white red and leopard print worked effectively. After going back to our video, we tried different ending but think that the still image is best. Ideally, we wanted the girls walking away laughing but we did not have the footage of this.
There were not many comments on the video but from the likes we assume people enjoyed watching the video.
I researched R&B girl band music videos such as Destiny’s child who have similar ideologies to Scarlett Divas.I also researched Jake Nava; a director of many R&B music videos.
Final Cut Pro also helped me to develop my skills on this programme. It allows you to cut so finely to make sure that there is no footage in there that is not supposed to be there. This was very helpful especially during the rap with the lyrics are very fast.
There were not many comments but I am assuming from the likes we got on Facebook and YouTube that people enjoyed watching the video.
