Vans Anti Seeking Apparel Analysis
Vans Anti–Smoking Apparel Advertisement
The term advertising, the peaking of one's interest about a product or service offered, has been used
since the 1500s. For over five hundred years, companies and inventors have been influencing
consumers to buy or invest in their products through advertisements. These ads can come in all
types, shapes, and sizes. They can range from radio, print, television, web, or even advertisements
by word of mouth. The idea of advertising can be complicated to understand, but why ads need to be
used is very simple. Advertisements tell people what is out there to buy.
If nobody knows about the products, how can they sell? Advertisements are used to basically get the
word out about something that needs to be sold. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Tobacco use is the leading cause of preventable death and is estimated to kill more than six million
people each year worldwide (World Health Organization)" is a statement made by Banerjee and
Greene in the Journal of Substance Use. When children, adolescents, and teens are aware of the risk
of tobacco use, their chances of smoking decrease slightly. Studies have been done to show that
more than half of smoking initiation starts before the age of 18 (Banerjee and Greene). Because this
issue has been brought to the light in the last few years, companies and organizations have come
together to prevent adolescents from smoking. The "truth" campaign is one of the organizations that
has focused primarily on anti–smoking for

Public Relation And The Impact Of New Media
Public relation and The Impact of New Media
Advertising is a crucial piece of any business since it is the most direct correspondence between the
firm and the general population. For a business to appreciate long haul achievement, it needs to be
able to advance and adjust with the always showing signs of change patterns of people in general
keeping in mind the end goal to comprehend the requirements and worries of the overall population.
Creator and business person Deirdre K. Breakenridge (2008) states in her book 'PR 2.0 New Media,
New Tools, New Audiences ' that "It 's basic for PR experts to peruse, be learned, and remain to a
high degree knowledgeable about the business sectors their brands attempt to achieve." The

Nowadays it has turned out to be fundamental for advertising to participate in a consistent exchange

developing so should the courses in which PR communicates with the general population. With new

How Are Teenagers Affected By Advertisements For Fast Food?
Nowadays, the increasing number of companies decide to boost the investment of advertisements in
order to propagandize the new products more effectively and efficiently. Munusamy and Wong
argue that advertising has become one of the important elements in our modern life (Munusamy and
Wong). According to the most recent forecast of US advertising spending, eMarketer expects US
advertisers to spend $171.01 billion on paid media this year, up 3.6% over 2012 spending levels
("US Total Media Ad Spend Inches Up, Pushed by Digital – EMarketer."). Besides, the increasing
concern from the businessmen who spend a lot of money on advertising, there are also a rising
number of customers who have highly prone to choose a product while being affected by
advertisements. For example, the advertising that children view daily works –– 84 percent of parents
take their kids to a fast food restaurant at least once per week (Davidson, Jeremi. "How Are
Teenagers Affected by Advertisements for Fast Food?"). In addition, some advertising strategies will
cause some social problems, such as advertising some products which will undermine health. Given
the fact above, the increasing investment of advertisements is the debatable exigency. The research
questions which leaded me to investigate are listed as follows: Is the huge investment of the
advertisement worthy? And what kind of advertising strategies should be applied to gain better
advertising effect?

Limits Of IMC
Lastly, IMC saves a lot of money because it eliminates duplication and replication in areas such as
graphics, imagery and photography since they can be displayed and used in advertising, exhibitions
and sales events. By using a single agency for all communication, the agency fees are significantly
reduced and even if there are different agencies, time is conserved when meetings bring all the
agencies under one roof – for strategic planning, creative sessions, briefings, or tactical. The reduces
work pressure and subsequent stress levels are among the many benefits of IMC.
Limitations of IMC:
While the traditional barriers to IMC like the usual resistance to change and the special problems of

In most but not all organisations, there appear to be very few people who have real time hands–on
experience of all the marketing communication techniques. The absence of such expertise and
knowledge is further compounded by an absence of commitment. Realising and working on such
limitations is the first step in efficiently rolling out IMC.
Also, it is not an uncommon sight to notice turf wars or internal power fights where a few managers
resist having some of their decisions (including budgets) decided or even influenced by anyone from
some other department. It shouldn't matter who introduced the creative idea, but more often than
not, it does. An advertising agency might not be very comfortable about having developed a creative
idea by a PR or some direct marketing consultant.
IMC could also deter creativity. No more unconventional and sassy sales promotions unless they
somehow fit into the overall marketing communication strategy agreed upon within the organisation.
The thrill of impactful creativity may be choked, but the creative challenge may be bigger and
ultimately more gratifying when operating within a closely integrated, creative

Regulatory Changes in Direct-To-Consumer Marketing of...
Direct–to–consumer (DTC) marketing of pharmaceuticals has grown increasingly in the past
decade. The American public views prescription drug advertising for a wide range of medical
conditions, including high cholesterol, depression, allergies, and erectile dysfunction. The Federal
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the content of these advertisements. Critics also
have taken the position that the advertisements garner unearned trust from the public, are
misleading, and promote unnecessary use of prescription drugs for common problems associated
with aging. Proponents counter that DTC ads help eliminate stigmas associated with certain medical
conditions, give patients an active role in their health care management, and ... Show more content

The third and most common type is the "product claim ad," which mentions the product and its
indication and includes efficacy or safety claims." (Ventola, Toxic par 3). These types of ads proved
to be confusing and misleading for consumers. As Greene describes in "Hidden in Plain Sight",
"Over the course of the 1990s, resulting television and radio advertisements took on a surreal,
disconnected quality, exemplified by the division of marketing for Schering–Plough's nonsedating
antihistamine Claritin (loratidine): one set of advertisements praised promising new developments in
antiallergy remedies but did not mention Claritin, while others featured the pill and its logo and
promised "blue skies" without explaining what, in therapeutic terms, that might mean."The FDA
reacted to concerns over confusing DTC prescription drug ads by issuing final guidance in 1999,
which relaxed previous regulations and redefined "adequate provision" of risks and benefits to
include reference to a toll–free number or web site. (Greene, Hidden, par 34). The result of the
relaxed regulations was an explosion of DTC pharmaceutical advertising in broadcast media. DTC
rulings would be relaxed yet again in 2004, which saw the removal of the requirement to include
complete prescribing information, instead requiring only a "simplified brief summary." Ventola says
"this change allowed pharmaceutical companies to present

Advertising: Modern Day Brainwashing Essay
Brainwashing and Mind Control are "best thought of as a series of techniques that are used over
time to shape a person's perception, cognition, emotions, decision making and behavior to such an
extent that they have lost their freedom of choice" (Mind Control Today). These techniques, once in
existence within authoritarian and totalitarian governments, are increasingly being practiced by
advertising companies and mass media. There are extensive similarities among the political and
economic standards that cause negative impacts on society, as a result of adopting these mind
control tactics. As Malcom X pointed out, "The media is the most powerful entity on earth, because
they control the minds of the masses".
Advertisers and corporations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Advertisers and marketing companies are mostly interested in subliminal manipulation because by
targeting consumers' subconscious mind, they can control their involuntary actions, emotions and
beliefs. The subconscious part of our mind is able to process around 20,000 pieces of information
per second, where as our conscious part can only cope with about forty. This function explains why
any subliminal message that our subconscious receives, can be received and responded to by
consumers without them ever being aware of it. This form of mind control can be very powerful if
used correctly, it could influence consumers to want and buy a product without their control
(Winder).
The result of mind control can be identified in persons who end up developing different beliefs and
values. Once this controlling process grows in multiple different ways for a long period of time, it
results in brainwashing. Interestingly enough, according to Steve Hassan, in brainwashing, the
manipulator is the hostile enemy, where as in mind control the manipulator is a friend, a helper, and
the targeted person is a willing participant in the situation. The goal of the advertiser, as a
manipulator, is to destroy the consumer's old identity and create a new one that holds the beliefs,
values, and ideas of the manipulator (Mind Control Today). We are often less

The Current Market for Mobile Marketing Advertising
There is no evade from advertising and promotions when people are mobile, which becomes
pervasively in our life." According to the Interactive Advertising Bureau, the mobile advertising
industry experienced a worldwide growth of 65 percent in 2014. From $19.3 billion in 2013, the

Impact Of Advertising
Impact based advertising is a form of advertising designed to have a lasting psychological effect on
viewers so they will remember the product or vendor. This approach can help advertising produce
the greatest results for a given expenditure.
Impact based advertising is often contrasted with impression based advertising, which is focused on
the number of times that an ad is seen and does not differentiate between segments of the audience.
Impact–based advertising seeks to give the user something of value, whether that is entertainment or
information, and create a positive association with the product or service advertised.
On the Internet, impact based advertising applies mainly to Web–based content although it ... Show

Advertising has a major social impact by helping sustain mass communications media and making
them relatively inexpensive, if not free, to the public. Newspapers, magazines, radio, and broadcast
television all receive their primary income from advertising. Without advertising, many of these
forms of mass communication might not exist to the extent that they do today, or they might be
considerably more expensive, offer less variety, or even be subject to government control through
subsidies. In depth news programs, a diversity of magazines, and free entertainment might no longer
be widely available.
At the same time, however, some critics warn that because advertising plays such a major economic
role, it may exercise undue influence on the news media and thereby curtail the free flow of
information in a free society. Reporters and editors, for example, may be hesitant to develop a news
story that criticizes a major advertiser. As a result, society might not be alerted to harmful or
potentially harmful conduct by the advertiser. Most members of the news media deny that pressure
from an advertiser prevents them from pursuing news stories involving that advertiser, but some
members of the media acknowledge that they might not be inclined to investigate an issue
aggressively if it threatened to offend a major advertiser.
Advertisers may affect media programming in other ways, too, critics charge. For example,
companies that sponsor TV programs prefer

ARS 230 The main aspect of advertising is to 'get more bang for the buck', to make it aesthetically
pleasing to the eye and gain the viewer's attention. Throughout the years, advertising has varied in
many ways from catchy slogans to iconic logos. Some may say there is nothing wrong with a little

Europe is well known for using sexual nudity to promote a product, simply because 'sex sells'.
Approaching advertising in a different light would be emotionally. In America, advertising can be
described as hard selling. Hard selling is a campaign or advertisement that is direct, forceful and
straight to the point. For example while watching an American seatbelt warning on Youtube, the
commercial is simply based on the motto, "Click it or Ticket", showing average people driving their
cars and getting pulled over by officers and receiving a ticket and fine. The commercial is to the
point and straight forward, showing almost no emotion. The approach that American marketing
companies have used is effective by saying 'If you don't' wear your seatbelt, then you will be forced
by law to pay a fine'. Similarly compared to the American commercial is the European commercial's
motto, "Heaven Can Wait", is an emotional grasp on losing your life over not wearing your seatbelt.
Although the two are trying to deliver the same idea, the European method seems to make a gentler
or softer appeal to the viewer by incorporating emotion and reality into the grand scheme. The
emotion, fear, is incorporated into this commercial and motivates the audience to action. We as
viewers can see how both American and European advertising is very successful; it is hard not to
view one as more effective.

provoking not only because this software development was so new, having only been released on

University and is being marketed by a local company in Leeds.
This new piece of software called Fotino allows ISP's to control the adverts which appear on a web
page. The software allows them to overlay advertising banners on any page on the net with adverts
sold by, and controlled by them. It was developed from the idea that ISP's hold more personal
information about their customers and can therefore target the advertising much more successfully.

Fast Food Advertising and Childhood Obesity
Fast Food Advertising And Childhood Obesity
A rise in obesity has been observed in the United States in the last two decades. Obesity is one
problem that gives birth to numerous fatal diseases, including but not limited to cardiovascular
disease, diabetes, and depression. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted
a survey and found that, "More than one–third of U.S. adults (35.7%) and approximately 17% (or
12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2–19 years are obese" (Ogden, Carroll). One of the
main reasons behind obesity is the American's love for fast food. Fast food contains only a small

few Scandinavian countries" (Dhar, Baylis 7). "Sweden, Norway, and Finland have banned
commercial sponsorship of children's programs. Sweden also does not permit any television
advertising targeting children under the age of twelve" (Role of Media). "Quebec's 32 years ban on
advertising to children had led to $88 million annual reduction in expenditures on fast food and 13.4
billion to 18.4 billion fewer fast food calories being consumed per year" (Dhar, Baylis 2–10).
Residents of Quebec have a very sedentary life, yet their obesity rate is comparatively lesser than
the US. These figures indicate that the sanction on fast food advertisement can prove effective in
lowering or curbing fast food consumption in the United States as well. A larger proportion of the
US population leads a very active life. An active life combined with the proper and healthy diet may
lead to significant reduction in the obesity rates. "Media and entertainment giant Walt Disney Co's
has already banned junk food advertisements during its TV, radio and other online programs
intended for children under the age of 12" (Heavey).

Search engine marketing providers have increased in significance and there have been a number of
traits enveloping the market. Most web optimization corporations are anticipated to know and
perceive the algorithms created for serps, but solely few are in a position to crack it with precision.
Some sites get extra guests than the others while some fail to get even some guests depending on
their online presence. It is the major job of an search engine optimisation specialist to spice up the
presence of the sites. The algorithms determine if the positioning web page needs to be in the first
page for a relevant keyword. Natural search engine optimisation providers and results resolve the
online presence of a website to an important extent.

Barnes & Noble vs. Amazon
To attain a competitive advantage over Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble needs to develop a proper
strategy and implement a successful marketing plan.
SITUATION ANALYSIS
Barnes & Noble first must consider the issues and problems facing their company, and then perform
an opportunity analysis to determine their strengths and weaknesses in relation to their customers,
competitors, and company capabilities. In regards to the main concerns of Barnes & Noble, the
company needs to worry about the uncertainties associated with the expected rapid growth of the
Internet, the changing profile of Internet users, increased competition and indeterminate future

With their traditional stores, Barnes & Noble established a 2.5 million–title database designed to
help consumers find books, but despite this advancement, the company's distribution structure is far
inferior to Amazon.com's. Both the tax–exempt online purchased books and the traditionally
purchased ones are routed through the same distribution center in New Jersey and have to be
separated from each other to avoid confusion. Contrarily, their main competitor is much more
efficient and cost reducing. Amazon.com's West Coast operation permits non–Washington state
residents from paying sales taxes, and instead of working with publishers, the company depends on
wholesalers to provide fast turnaround in shipment, allowing them to have few books on hand at
their distribution center. In the marketing channel, this just–in–time production reduces inventory
levels, thereby lowering costs in production and storeroom fees. Because of increased competition,
Barnes & Noble needs to develop a plan to enhance their own market position and to challenge
Amazon.com's channel advantage.
ALTERNATIVES
In order to deal with the issues posed above, Barnes & Noble has to focus on a possible alternative
strategy. At this time,

Advertisement: Where Santa Endorsed Cigarettes and Where Companies Invade Our Pockets
Cutthroat business, ruthless dog–eat–dog relationships, and high stakes are timeless key
characteristics of the advertisement business. Overtime, the advertisement business has evolved and
adapted to suit society's desires. Advertisements from the 1950s seem alien to us today. The
advertiser's main goal is to sell you an item, idea, or service. To do this, advertisers must represent
their target audience's wants and desires. So as society changes, advertisements must too. The most
prevalent changes in the modern era since the 1950s include the methods of reaching the consumer
and changes in the content of the advertisements. Gender roles in advertisement have not seen as
much of a dramatic change. However, advertisement has evolved, but not necessarily for the better,
as it still reflects almost every characteristic of our society; from our materialism to our distorted
morals.
From the 1950s to the modern era, advertisement outlets have evolved to meet society's shifting
desires. Technological innovation aided companies and advertisers in reaching their customers.
Newspaper advertising used to be the king from which countless numbers of companies where able
to reach and connect with consumers. America's new suburban lifestyle in the 1950s created new
ways of reaching consumers. Advertisers could now reach their target audience

TEENS AND ADVERTISING
Abstract: companies have to sell their products. In order for them to, they have targeted a particular
group of people which are teens. Advertisers know teens are very vulnerable, and want to be seen as
"cool" and for these companies to sell their product, they (advertisers) paint this unrealistic image of
a teenager, in their (teens) heads. They (advertisers) make teens believe that before they (teens) can
be accepted into society, they (teens) have to be this idea of a teenager. In order to protect teenagers
from money hungry companies that want to exploit them, we should make them understand how
advertising works.
Today, teens have become the main targets of advertisers and Marketers who see them as major
consumers of their products. The way in which advertising companies and marketers draw the
attentions of teenagers is alarming. These companies claim to be ignorant of the effects advertising
campaigns have on teens, because they want to sell their products and services, knowing well that
most teenagers are not completely knowledgeable of the impact advertising have on their lives.
These companies carry out their adverts through television, internet, magazines and other media to
lure teens to their products.

The advertisements generally deal with breakfast foods, toys, clothing, and cars. The targeted age
range covers a wide spread. Depending on the type of channel, the advertisements will vary and
target a certain age group. "Transforming a brand into a socially responsible leader doesn't happen
overnight by simply writing new marketing and advertising strategies. It takes effort to identify a
vision that your customers will find credible and aligned with their values" (Mainwaring). For
example, the "Leo Messi on the road to the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ – Fast" commercial advertises
a pair of Adidas soccer cleats. Furthermore, the ad is trying to persuade young athletes to buy this
product. The appeal is to ethos because the ad relies on the credibility of a professional athlete. The
next ad in this time slot is from Old Spice, "The Man Your Man Could Smell Like." This is in the
demographic category of gender as it appeals to both men and women. Men will be great if they
wear the product. Also, women should buy the product so their man will smell great. The next time
slot is the ten a.m. to four p.m. window. The ads aired during this time generally aim to reach the
older generation and have to do with aging. Another target is children when they arrive home from
school. A commercial that depicts how advertisers target the elder age group is from Coca–Cola,
"Older Couple Turn into Adorable Kids." The appeal is ethos; older people will feel and appear

Research Statement This report will asses the effectiveness of various internet marketing
approaches effecting profitability.
Purpose
The purpose of this report is to explore new strategies that have emerged resulting from companies

Background and Significance
The World Wide Web was invented in 1989 by Tim Berners–Lee ("World Wide Web," 2006, Para.

2). There are many different ways to catch and pull in the clientele that a company is searching for,
but before choosing what type of internet marketing approach is best for the company's money, the
marketing team must know some basic steps. They should start off by finding a target market and
look into regional ad buys, also they ought to research discounts that internet sources are offering
("Advertising isn't cheap," n.d., para.1–4).
One good way to start is by advertising on large search engines such as Yahoo, Google, and Web
Crawler. This is called paid keyword search and contextual adverting, but much larger known as
SEM which is the abbreviation for Search Engine Marketing. This is an ideal way for the small
businessman or business owner to get the most bang out of his or hers buck. A business owner can
buy little ads that come up when one searches a related topic to their product. For instance, a
company is specializing in manufacturing windows and siding. If a person is looking to replace their
windows or siding and is searching a search engine to figure out how to go about doing it, when that
person enters the keyword "siding" a little ad for that company specializing in that product or
service is going to come up. SEM adverting is a fast growing way to advertise. It is so fast that

Search Engine Optimization ( Seo )
It is no exaggeration that you live in a digital world and from that perspective it is imperative that
your business has an impressive presence in the digital space. In essence, digital marketing is the
future of marketing in the world with the added advantages that it is cheaper than traditional
marketing and is measurable.
Let's list the different ways you can use the digital medium to popularize and drive conversions for
your startup or business. digital_mkt 1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
In layman's terms, Search Engine Optimization or SEO is essentially tweaking your website so that
it comes up naturally or organically for search results in Google, Yahoo Bing or any other search
engine.
Google updates its algorithms regularly so that only the relevant results come up. From that
perspective, many experts say that SEO is dead and the effort is futile. However, the truth is that
Google tries to prevent algorithm manipulation and filters sites that don't deserve to be on the top of
SERPs (Search Engine Result Pages).
So there is no doubt you should invest in SEO work. Your website should address the technicalities
related to content and query matching, spidering, indexing, and interpreting non–text content.
Remember, it is the most cost–effective marketing strategy that will bring organic traffic to your
business.

The Effect of Smartphones on Advertising The amount of smartphones users have nearly doubled
within the past 5 years, from 35% to 70%.("2014 Marketing Statistics Infographic"). As the number
of users continues to rise, advertising will continue to integrate with smartphones. Smartphones
have dramatically changed the way consumers are approached by advertising companies. Before we
can understand how smartphones have changed the advertising industry, we must first recognize that
advertising and smartphones were not always related. By answering the following two question, it
will further examine the effect of smartphones on advertising. How have smartphones impacted the
advertising industry? How effective advertising on smartphones is?
Background of advertising
Before I can explain the effects of smartphones on advertising, we must first understand what the
goal of advertising was before smartphones. According to Joseph Dominik "Advertising is any form

when the Queensboro Realty Company paid a few hundred dollars for a talk radio show to

"The consumer embryo begins to develop during the first year of existence. Children begin their
consumer journey in infancy, and they certainly deserve consideration as consumers at that time" –
James U. McNeal, Youth Marketer. Companies have their sights on kids for many reasons, but
mainly because of their immense buying power, the amount of money they spend, totaling more
than 40 billion dollars every year. However the main reason for marketers' interest in kids, is
actually the amount of adult spending that kids now directly influence, a colossal 700 billion dollars
a year. (Consuming Kids, 2008). Marketers will do anything, ethical or not, to gain access to this
money. This generation of children is marketed to in a way that has never been done before. There
are so many ways of reaching children that there is a brand in front of their face every moment of
every day, as shown in the graphic below, and this can cause physical and psychological
repercussions. Children today are constantly bombarded with commercials and ads which cause
adverse side effects like obesity and poor self esteem. Due to their lack of development, they are
easily manipulated and influenced, and it is therefore immoral and unethical to market to children.

the fact that around seventy–nine percent of these food commercials were for candy, and fast food.

How Advertising Affects The World Wide Web Essay
I will now introduce an extension that individuals can install on their browsers to hide all of the
banners and advertisements when they are navigating the World Wide Web. When an individual is
navigating the web they will see advertisements that might catch their attention and the user might
click on it, taking them to another site that might have malware or virus on them. This site may also
install something on their computer without them noticing. This will also block those pop–ups that
show when you are navigating on a certain website and you won't have to worry about something
showing up that you don't want to see. Another positive thing that Ad Blockers do is that they will
block all of the advertisements from videos. Blocking advertisements will have the websites you are
visiting look cleaner by removing all of the items that shouldn't be on there. The websites that you
are visiting will also load quicker because it isn't reading the scripts of the advertisements.

Unquestionably, if there were no such thing as advertising we would see a great deal of
improvement in the attitudes and beliefs of the American people. We are constantly being
bombarded with unhealthy information. In this age, we are driven by technology. The internet,
television, and media run our lives to an extent. We are constantly seeing some sort of
advertisement, whether on a billboard or otherwise. People want the image that is expressed in
advertisements, and more often than not, the image portrayed is not practical. In the article, "A
Mighty Image" by Cameron Johnson, he informs us that "The image creates an allure, that is, an
attractive association of the thing...with a set of ideas. That set of ideas can be entirely divorced
from reality, entirely separate from the needs of everyday life" (180). If there was no advertising it
would allow the public to see other things about the world they would have never noticed otherwise.
More attention would be placed upon the arts and literature if ads were not constantly in our faces.
This would counteract everything we are learning and beginning to believe about the media and
advertising. If advertising was outlawed we could thrive. Companies would have to find some other
source of funding for television programs, magazines, etc. We would be forced to think for

The majority of today's society knows that many images in magazines are retouched or edited. What
people do not know, is that practically every image in magazines are edited and models in them are
completely photoshopped to be thinner, flawless, and unrealistic. Models should not be
photoshopped because Photoshopped models have harmful effects on women in society, models

Images with Photoshopped models have many consequences. In this case, the victims of Photoshop
are women in society that look up to Photoshopped models as "real beauty". This is because some
women do not know that their ideas of beauty presented in magazines, are created by a computer
program. In her article, "What's behind the culture of Photoshop in Advertising" (2013), Susan
Krashinsky introduced her argument that Photoshop was having negative effects on women. In order
to develop her argument, Krashinsky used statistics and cited editors and companies that use
Photoshop and know the severity of the topic. Since Krashinsky's article, Photoshop has only grown
bigger in the modeling industry; and its results on women have grown as well. Today, the effects of
seeing Photoshopped models include eating disorders and distorted body images. The results of
these physical, emotional, and psychological medical issues can vary, but are unhealthy and can
become deadly, no matter the situation.

Nowadays, the increasing number of companies decide to boost the investment of advertisements in order to propagandize the new products more effectively and efficiently. Munusamy and Wong argue that advertising has become one of the important elements in our modern life (Munusamy and Wong). According to the most recent forecast of US advertising spending, eMarketer expects US advertisers to spend $171.01 billion on paid media this year, up 3.6% over 2012 spending levels ("US Total Media Ad Spend Inches Up, Pushed by Digital – EMarketer."). Besides, the increasing concern from the businessmen who spend a lot of money on advertising, there are also a rising number of customers who have highly prone to choose a product while being affected by advertisements. For example, the advertising that children view daily works –– 84 percent of parents take their kids to a fast food restaurant at least once per week (Davidson, Jeremi. "How Are Teenagers Affected by Advertisements for Fast Food?"). In addition, some advertising strategies will cause some social problems, such as advertising some products which will undermine health. Given the fact above, the increasing investment of advertisements is the debatable exigency. The research questions which leaded me to investigate are listed as follows: Is the huge investment of the advertisement worthy? The absence of such expertise and knowledge is further compounded by an absence of commitment. Realising and working on such limitations is the first step in efficiently rolling out IMC. Also, it is not an uncommon sight to notice turf wars or internal power fights where a few managers resist having some of their decisions (including budgets) decided or even influenced by anyone from some other department. It shouldn't matter who introduced the creative idea, but more often than not, it does. An advertising agency might not be very comfortable about having developed a creative idea by a PR or some direct marketing consultant. IMC could also deter creativity. No more unconventional and sassy sales promotions unless they somehow fit into the overall marketing communication strategy agreed upon within the organisation. The American public views prescription drug advertising for a wide range of medical conditions, including high cholesterol, depression, allergies, and erectile dysfunction. The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates the content of these advertisements. Critics also have taken the position that the advertisements garner unearned trust from the public, are misleading, and promote unnecessary use of prescription drugs for common problems associated with aging. (Ventola, Toxic par 3). These types of ads proved to be confusing and misleading for consumers. As Greene describes in "Hidden in Plain Sight", "Over the course of the 1990s, resulting television and radio advertisements took on a surreal, disconnected quality, exemplified by the division of marketing for Schering–Plough's nonsedating antihistamine Claritin (loratidine): one set of advertisements praised promising new developments in antiallergy remedies but did not mention Claritin, while others featured the pill and its logo and promised "blue skies" without explaining what, in therapeutic terms, that might mean."The FDA reacted to concerns over confusing DTC prescription drug ads by issuing final guidance in 1999, which relaxed previous regulations and redefined "adequate provision" of risks and benefits to include reference to a toll–free number or web site. (Greene, Hidden, par 34). The result of the relaxed regulations was an explosion of DTC pharmaceutical advertising in broadcast media. Advertising: Modern Day Brainwashing Essay Brainwashing and Mind Control are "best thought of as a series of techniques that are used over time to shape a person's perception, cognition, emotions, decision making and behavior to such an extent that they have lost their freedom of choice" (Mind Control Today). These techniques, once in existence within authoritarian and totalitarian governments, are increasingly being practiced by advertising companies and mass media. Advertisers and marketing companies are mostly interested in subliminal manipulation because by targeting consumers' subconscious mind, they can control their involuntary actions, emotions and beliefs. The subconscious part of our mind is able to process around 20,000 pieces of information per second, where as our conscious part can only cope with about forty. This function explains why any subliminal message that our subconscious receives, can be received and responded to by consumers without them ever being aware of it. This form of mind control can be very powerful if used correctly, it could influence consumers to want and buy a product without their control (Winder). The result of mind control can be identified in persons who end up developing different beliefs and values. Once this controlling process grows in multiple different ways for a long period of time, it results in brainwashing. Interestingly enough, according to Steve Hassan, in brainwashing, the manipulator is the hostile enemy, where as in mind control the manipulator is a friend, a helper, and the targeted person is a willing participant in the situation. The goal of the advertiser, as a manipulator, is to destroy the consumer's old identity and create a new one that holds the beliefs, values, and ideas of the manipulator (Mind Control Today). At the same time, however, some critics warn that because advertising plays such a major economic role, it may exercise undue influence on the news media and thereby curtail the free flow of information in a free society. Reporters and editors, for example, may be hesitant to develop a news story that criticizes a major advertiser. As a result, society might not be alerted to harmful or potentially harmful conduct by the advertiser. Most members of the news media deny that pressure from an advertiser prevents them from pursuing news stories involving that advertiser, but some members of the media acknowledge that they might not be inclined to investigate an issue aggressively if it threatened to offend a major advertiser. Europe is well known for using sexual nudity to promote a product, simply because 'sex sells'. Approaching advertising in a different light would be emotionally. In America, advertising can be described as hard selling. Hard selling is a campaign or advertisement that is direct, forceful and straight to the point. For example while watching an American seatbelt warning on Youtube, the commercial is simply based on the motto, "Click it or Ticket", showing average people driving their cars and getting pulled over by officers and receiving a ticket and fine. The commercial is to the point and straight forward, showing almost no emotion. The approach that American marketing companies have used is effective by saying 'If you don't' wear your seatbelt, then you will be forced by law to pay a fine'. Similarly compared to the American commercial is the European commercial's motto, "Heaven Can Wait", is an emotional grasp on losing your life over not wearing your seatbelt. Although the two are trying to deliver the same idea, the European method seems to make a gentler or softer appeal to the viewer by incorporating emotion and reality into the grand scheme. The emotion, fear, is incorporated into this commercial and motivates the audience to action. We as viewers can see how both American and European advertising is very successful; it is hard not to view one as more effective. Another aspect of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Overtime, the advertisement business has evolved and adapted to suit society's desires. Advertisements from the 1950s seem alien to us today. The advertiser's main goal is to sell you an item, idea, or service. To do this, advertisers must represent their target audience's wants and desires. So as society changes, advertisements must too. The most prevalent changes in the modern era since the 1950s include the methods of reaching the consumer and changes in the content of the advertisements. Gender roles in advertisement have not seen as much of a dramatic change. However, advertisement has evolved, but not necessarily for the better, as it still reflects almost every characteristic of our society; from our materialism to our distorted morals. From the 1950s to the modern era, advertisement outlets have evolved to meet society's shifting desires. Technological innovation aided companies and advertisers in reaching their customers. Newspaper advertising used to be the king from which countless numbers of companies where able to reach and connect with consumers. America's new suburban lifestyle in the 1950s created new ways of reaching consumers. Advertisers could now reach their target audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A recent study at the University of California shows that kids ate 23 percent more vegetables when paired with a moderate amount of ranch dressing ("New Hidden Valley Ad"). This visual advertisement published in multiple target advertising markets such as the June 2008 volume of Good Housekeeping periodical targets parents, especially moms, who worry about their children's diets, constantly struggling to get their kids to eat enough vegetables (Hidden Valley). Hidden Valley uses a common photography strategy in the advertisement known as encapsulation. "Encapsulation is a classic technique used to hijack your visitor's eyes and create a tunnel vision effect, preventing your eye from wondering somewhere else in the photo" (Gardner). Hidden Valley creates the picture in a way that makes you look at the ranch being used on the broccoli, almost as if making your eyes focus in on that particular spot. The ad uses association to connect the viewer to the message of the ad. In order for them to, they have targeted a particular group of people which are teens. Advertisers know teens are very vulnerable, and want to be seen as "cool" and for these companies to sell their product, they (advertisers) paint this unrealistic image of a teenager, in their (teens) heads. They (advertisers) make teens believe that before they (teens) can be accepted into society, they (teens) have to be this idea of a teenager. In order to protect teenagers from money hungry companies that want to exploit them, we should make them understand how advertising works. Today, teens have become the main targets of advertisers and Marketers who see them as major consumers of their products. The way in which advertising companies and marketers draw the attentions of teenagers is alarming. These companies claim to be ignorant of the effects advertising campaigns have on teens, because they want to sell their products and services, knowing well that most teenagers are not completely knowledgeable of the impact advertising have on their lives. Children begin their consumer journey in infancy, and they certainly deserve consideration as consumers at that time" – James U. McNeal, Youth Marketer. Companies have their sights on kids for many reasons, but mainly because of their immense buying power, the amount of money they spend, totaling more than 40 billion dollars every year. However the main reason for marketers' interest in kids, is actually the amount of adult spending that kids now directly influence, a colossal 700 billion dollars a year. (Consuming Kids, 2008). Marketers will do anything, ethical or not, to gain access to this money. This generation of children is marketed to in a way that has never been done before. There are so many ways of reaching children that there is a brand in front of their face every moment of every day, as shown in the graphic below, and this can cause physical and psychological repercussions. Children today are constantly bombarded with commercials and ads which cause adverse side effects like obesity and poor self esteem. Foods were classified as "healthy" if they met Singapore's Healthier Choice Symbol, but the food being advertised was clearly not. The study from Singapore is just one specific example of how much pressure the media is placing on children, and what they consume, and how unbeneficial this pressure is. Another study conducted by Kristen Harrison and Amy L. Marske also shows the correlation between food advertising, how it is geared towards children, and the nutritional benefits, or lack thereof, of the foods being advertised. These researchers focused on just the nutritional content of the foods being advertised during hours of peak child viewers. They then coded the foods being advertised based on what type of food it was, such as breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snack food. How Advertising Affects The World Wide Web Essay I will now introduce an extension that individuals can install on their browsers to hide all of the banners and advertisements when they are navigating the World Wide Web. When an individual is navigating the web they will see advertisements that might catch their attention and the user might click on it, taking them to another site that might have malware or virus on them. This site may also install something on their computer without them noticing. This will also block those pop–ups that show when you are navigating on a certain website and you won't have to worry about something showing up that you don't want to see. Another positive thing that Ad Blockers do is that they will block all of the advertisements from videos. Blocking advertisements will have the websites you are visiting look cleaner by removing all of the items that shouldn't be on there. The websites that you are visiting will also load quicker because it isn't reading the scripts of the advertisements. 2.6 Deepfreeze Working at two different locations I saw the benefits of having this computer software install on the computers in the labs.
