Complex love includes the drama, and difficulties of a relationship, while still being closely
connected to the romantic parts of a relationship. This is prevalent in The Notebook. Allie and Noah,

The Notebook Directed By Nick Cassavetes
"It was an improbable romance. He was a country boy. She was from the city. She had the world at
her feet, while he didn't have two dimes to rub together." In the 2004 movie the Notebook directed
by Nick Cassavetes we see an unlikely romance between a rich city girl, Allie Hamilton (Rachel
McAdams), and a poor country boy Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling). Based on the bestselling book
by Nicholas Sparks, the Notebook shows us how relationships change throughout different stages of
our lives but love will never diminish.
The film begins with a scene at a nursing home, where see an old man, Duke, reading to a woman,
Allie, whose memory has started to slip due to Alzheimer 's. He pulls an old notebook and in a
flashback we are taken to Seabrook Island, North Carolina in the 1940's. This is where we meet
Noah Calhoun a dirt poor local kid who is played by Ryan Gosling. Gosling, who is undeniably one
of the most popular actors of our generation, does an outstanding job portraying his character. His
ease and confidence makes us believe he was made to play this role. When he tells Allie that
relationships are something you don't give up on "So it 's not gonna be easy. It 's going to be really
hard; we 're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want
all of you, forever, every day. You and me" He speaks with such great passion and emotion that it
tugs at our heartstrings. The movie then continues to a carnival where Noah first sees Allie and

shows an also elderly Allie Hamilton (Gena Rowlands) looking over the lake from her bedroom
window. A nurse is asking her several questions about how she is feeling and what she would like to
do that day. Allie doesn't give off any interest in doing anything the nurse is suggesting. Noah enters
her room with a notebook, offering to read to her. The nurse insists that Allie should do something
else but Allie quickly accepts Noah's offer and sits herself down to listen to him read from the

Events That Shaped My View Of Life During This Course
There are three extremely important events that shaped my view of life during this course. Firstly,
when I was in this course around my third year, we decided to document our memories in a
notebook. This was a notebook we carried around everywhere, and whenever something interesting
or exciting happened, we would write it down. We got this idea from a teacher who did the same
when he was a student in a similar course. It was a simple spiral bound black notebook, but every
time someone said something entertaining or positive, we'd pick someone to write in it, and this
person would record this in the notebook. This was something only my class did, and it made us feel
extremely unique and close as a class. Before this, we weren't really united and didn't feel as close to
one another–but as soon as we began this, we were a patriotic and supportive class. This journal was
a transition between us being just a couple of distant girls to very close sisters; through this
journaling, I felt united with my class and could confide in them with whatever I was going through.
It was always extremely exciting for me as the youngest in the class to see my elder peers write
about me, or something interesting about me. Writing our experiences down and keeping a record of
our memories helped us keep it fresh, and at our party at the end of the year, we read what we'd
written down as a class and laugh about it. As we went on to the fourth year, we tried to continue to
do so, but the teacher who

True Love In Noah Calhoun's The Notebook
People say that they are "in love" or that that they think they have found "the one" all of the time.
Those words have almost become so easy to use but unfortunately it seems like no one really knows
the true meaning of them anymore. So what is love? What is true love? As said in The Notebook,
"The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more; that plants a fire in
our hearts and brings peace to our minds."– Noah Calhoun or in Dear John when John says, "and
when her lips met mine, I knew that I could to be a hundred and visit every country in the world, but
nothing would ever compare to the single moment when I first kissed the girl of my dreams and
knew that my love would last forever" –John. Both of those quotes are so powerful and so
passionate and both of the men saying them to be so in love with their girls. But was either of these
situations true love? Most people would say yes and that is probably why both films went on to be
two of the most famous and most favorable love films of our time. But other than their amazing
story lines and heart throbbing love stories and slight differences, one thing that is so amazing is just
how similar their stories really are. In the Notebook a man by the name of Duke reads a story to a
lady who has Alzheimer's and has lost most of her memory. The story is about an upper class
seventeen year–old named Allie Hamilton who is spending her summer in Seabrook, South Carolina
with her family. There is a local

Nicholas Sparks SETTING The story of The Notebook begins in New Bern, a city close to North
Carolina's North coast, in Craven Country in 1932. The story then fast–forwards to the year 1946,
still in the same city, New Bern, in the deep south of the Unite States. The story ends in the modern
era, today, in a nursing home called Creekside Extended Care Facility. PLOT A man named Noah
Calhoun retreated back to his hometown or New Bern, North Carolina at the age of 31 from World
War 2, which he was fighting in. He purchased an old, very sizable estate for him to enhance.
Subsequently, the newspaper decided to publish an article about his accomplishment. When Allie
Nelson, a girl who was enamored with Noah Calhoun when they were juveniles, sees the article
written about Noah, she knows she must go see him. Allie is engaged to a man named Lon, but
informs him she will just be leaving to go visit an antique shop. Upon her arrival in New Bern,
passion and vehemence surge the two. They spend a generous amount of time outside and eating
dinner catching up. Allie begins to conceive that Noah had composed letters to her for years
following their separation, yet her mother had secluded them from her. Noah and Allie came from
different households with different social statuses. Noah's family was not nearly as wealthy as
Allie's and Allie's mother, Anne, doesn't approve of them being in a

The Notebook Alzheimer's Analysis
The movie The Notebook is the love story of Noah and Ally, an elderly couple, who is living out the
rest of their days in a retirement home. Though Noah's health doesn't necessarily require the need of
this retirement home, he chooses to stay there anyway so he can be close to his love, Ally all of the
time. Each day Noah reads to Ally out of his journal a story of two young lovers. However, this
story is the story of Noah and Ally when they first met and fell in love. Noah reads out of this
journal in hopes that it will trigger something in Ally's memory and she will remember him again.
Even through Ally's Alzheimer's prevent her from remembering this, she enjoys hearing Noah read it
to her and looks forward to hearing the next section every day. How accurate is this example of
Ally's Alzheimer's though? Does this disease truly work the way that they show in this movie? ...

Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia, and is a progressive disease that destroys the
memory and other important mental functions. According to alz.org "The most common early
symptom of Alzheimer's is difficulty remembering newly learned information because Alzheimer's
changes typically begin in the part of the brain that affects learning. As Alzheimer's advances
through the brain it leads to increasingly severe symptoms, including disorientation, mood and
behavior changes; deepening confusion about events, time and place; unfounded suspicions about
family, friends and professional caregivers; more serious memory loss and behavior changes; and
difficulty speaking, swallowing and walking." With that being said, Ally would have been less likely
to remember all of the staff members that worked with her and the newly formed memories made
with them, and more likely to remember things like Noah or how they met. This is one area of the
disease that was inaccurately depicted in this

Questions On Stock Reports Research Essay
Stock Reports Research If I had to narrow my composing process down it would be between two
processes, the Think–Aloud Protocol & Process Log. A think–aloud protocol is the process of
verbally speaking the words as you write them as well as saying aloud what you are thinking. "A
process log is a journal in which you discuss what you are writing, what you are reading in relation
to your written work, and how writing for class relates to other writing you are doing or have done."
I am a mixture of the two, I have a whole written process in my notebook that I use strictly for my
business stocks, but as I'm doing the step by step process I recite what I'm doing so I won't forget
anything that I have to do. In order to help complete this process I used a website called Screencast–
o–Matic, it is basically the same thing as Jing but I actually know how to use screencast. Screencast
is a screen recorder website that in this case was used for my business process. With screencast I
saw how much I would frequently stop to look at the American Eagle website or to check my email
or social media. My process was prolonged by my frequent stops for snacks and chatter with friends
and my roommate. My room is always loud because we have plenty of visitors throughout the day; I
learned to try to work around the noise. If for some reason I'm not in my room I'm usually out on the
steps of the dorms; it's not cool out there but it's a lot quieter with fewer visitors so I get a lot more
finished.

CHARACTERS There are nine characters in The Notebook, some mentioned only once in
conversation, but some used all the way through out the story. One of the main characters is Noah
Calhoun, the narrator of the story. He is very mellow, but has held onto Allie his entire life. It is hard
for Noah to seem to forget people and tends to let his built up depression out through poetry, crafts,
or outdoor activities. He is enamored with Allie and has been since they were young adults. After
re–encountering her after not having spoken nor written to her in fourteen years, they fall madly

his hair turning from brown to grey. Noah is realistic not only because of his looks being described,
but more because of his traits: his inability to forget and his mellow personality. The other main
character, Allie Nelson, is the woman that Noah is effectuated by. She has a hard time following her
heart and wants to be accepted socially. She is a pleaser and never wants to let people down so she

The Notebook : A Short Story
The Notebook
"I am so tired, I need some coffee." said Alex,
"I know right."agreed Noah. It was in the afternoon when Noah, and Alex finished their college
classes and were going to a local coffee shop to get something to drink. They were walking down
the street and a man riding a bike dropped a notebook, they yelled to the man that he dropped his
notebook, but he didn't come back. When sitting in the coffee shop, Noah decided to look through
the book, for the name of the owner, so he turned to the first page and read
"This is the property of... NO ONE."
It was written in what looked to be a permanent marker. "'Why would someone not write their name
and instead put No One, that makes no sense"' thought Noah. Alex came back with their drinks, he
sat down and Noah caught him up one what he had read so far. Alex, who was confused by this
notebook decided to flip the page, and what he saw startled him, he saw a picture of him and Noah
sitting in the shop in black and white. When Alex looked up, he saw that nobody was in the shop
and that their drinks have disappeared as well. The notebook on the table was gone, but a message
remained " Think quickly but careful there's only one way out, Signed NO ONE."
Panic settled in quickly, "Only one way out, I have to get my project done for biology!" Exclaimed
Noah.
"Try not to panic." said Alex, trying to calm him.
"How are you so calm?" said Noah, " We are trapped in a world where there's nobody but us and
that NO ONE person."

Enduring power of love: The Notebook The Notebook, written by Nicolas Sparks, can be named one
of the best American romantic novels. The book portrays every trait in a guy or girl would desire to
have in a significant other. According to Nicolas Sparks, "it is a celebration of how passion can be
ageless and timeless, tales that moves us to laughter and tears and makes us believe in true love all

Another strength in this movie was the plot. Without a good plot, there would be no point to the
movie. The last and final strength in "The Notebook" is emotion. This film takes one through every
motion imaginable. As for examples, when Allie and Noah split, the emotional response
automatically takes a tole on someone. It's as if, your actually apart of the movie. In the book,
Allison and Noah met in 1932, at the time Allison was 15 and Noah was 17. But in the movie, they
met in the year of 1940, where they both were around the same age of 17. According to Cassavetes,
(unsolved), this movie was filmed in South Carolina because of its 1040's look. Allison and Noah
meet at a carnival, where Allison is very fond of Noah. With love in the air, they spent the rest of the
night together until the carnival was over. However, in the movie, Noah became infatuated with
Allison, and went to the extreme of insanity by jumping on the ferry's wheel to ask her out. Noah
plays remarkable in both and just makes the audience fall in love with his character. With most
summer romances follows heartache. As for Noah and Allison, their fairytale love weren't excluded.
When the summer ended, Allison had to return back home, leaving Noah behind. With heartache
comes conflict, according to the movie, Allison and Noah got into a huge fight before she left, which
ultimately lead them regretting the whole disagreement. Nicolas Sparks, captured this moment

The Notebook Ethos
Behind Great Love Lies A Great Story Nicholas Sparks' tragic love story The Notebook is a
touching story about two people and their eternal passion of true love which is beautifully portrayed
by Nick Cassavetes in the film. Pathos is used in the film to draw members of the audience to the
characters and influence them to feel passionate towards the characters. Cassavetes does this by
making the movie more dramatic than the book. The director effectively uses pathos to add drama in
The Notebook which makes the movie's audience more emotionally connected to the story. The plot
is evidently more climatic as the main events are exaggerated in the film. The feel of the overall

The different descriptions and dialogues of Allie and Noah are what bring the change into their
relationship. In the novel, Noah is described as a quiet and shy poet. "Although he was quiet, years
of heavy lifting at the lumberyard helped him excel in sports, ... An occasional person found him
arrogant; most simply figured he had grown up a bit faster than everyone else." (Sparks 24) Whereas
in the film, Noah is very outgoing and confident. He does not stop until he gets what he wants. This
is evident when Noah climbs on the ferris wheel and hangs from the bars at the carnival where he
asks Allie to go out with him. She refuses and he blackmails her by making her think that he will fall
down from such a height. Allie becomes frightened and agrees to go out with him, little did she
know that this was his plan all along. The change in Noah's description changes his personality and
the way the audience views him as an individual character. Allie and Noah's tone of dialogues are
also changed to make them seem more modern. In the book, Allie agrees to spend time with Noah
without any objection. "...the four of them stayed at the festival until the crowds were thin and
everything closed up for the night. They met the following day, and the day after that, and they soon
became inseparable." (Sparks 13) This circumstance would not exist in today's society as females
have their personal preferences. This is seen in the movie when Allie plays 'hard to get' and rejects
Noah several times when he reminds her of the date. "'What are you doing tonight?' ... 'Why?' 'Why?
Our date.' 'What date?' 'The date that you agreed to.' 'No!' 'Yes, you did. You promised, and you
swore it.' 'Well, I guess I changed my mind.' ... 'Come on, one date. What's it gonna hurt?' 'Umm..I

Should Textbooks Be Replaced With Notebook Computers?
Should textbooks be replaced with notebook computers The day of A.I. taking over the world is only
seeming more possible. Almost everything is being replaced with robots. Machines are being
implemented into anywhere and everywhere to make living more simple. This is not a bad thing, but
that doesn't mean it isn't questionable. The surplus of machines have found its way into schools as
well. The day of robots teaching is appearing in our future generations. In certain areas have already
been replaced with notebook computers and ipads. Ipads were the awe of this generation, but they
are not capable of beating the awe of the century. Notebook computers should not replace textbooks.
Textbooks should not be replaced because they are less distracting, less likely to get stolen and do
not run out of charge. Students have a lot of things on their mind. They work harder than people
give them credit for. That doesn't mean they're are perfect, however. They are easily distracted.
Having notepads will distract the students and prolong their objective. With notepads, the students
will way too long to finish their work and will end up rushing in the last minute, or not doing the
assignment at all. I know because I am a victim. Whenever I get a notepad computer, the first thing I
do after turning it on is go to a gaming site. There I lose my time. By the end of class, The only

The Notebook Essay example
The Notebook is a phenomenal film with incredible performances and many heartfelt moments from
beginning to end. It is a love story that many of us fantasize of living someday. The story unfolds in
recent times at a Nursing home with the introduction of an elderly lady (Gena Rowlands) who is
being visited by an old man, known as Duke (James Garner), who also resides in the nursing home,
and he's there to read her a story. He begins to read about a young girl named Allie (Rachel
McAdams) who was visiting a cousin one summer in the late 1940s. Allie was a beautiful teenage
girl who eventually caught the eye of Noah (Ryan Gosling), her cousin's boyfriend's best friend.
Initially, she showed no interest in Noah, considering the fact ... Show more content on

The film?s setting was in present and past scenarios, which made it very interesting. As the old man
Duke read the story, in a past plot, and the story began to climax, he would be interrupted by
someone in the nursing staff, bringing them back to the present. This lineup of events leads to a
sense of curiosity as I began to wonder what these two plots have in relation. This curiosity will
soon be fulfilled as the story develops, and the two plots start to intertwine. The director of this film
did a fantastic job in combining these two plots, and giving the audience just enough time to figure
out their relation. He didn?t give it away too soon, or so late that the story got boring or confusing.
He also made very good use of underscoring (background music with no apparent source) in a
previous scene where Allie and Noah where dancing alone in the middle on nowhere, to the sounds
of Billie Holiday. This particular shot was a three minute continuous shot taken with a camera on a
300ft dolly track. The actors and actresses in this film did a remarkable job in playing their roles.
The language and wardrobe fit the perfect description of a 40?s teenager. Now, this is what I call a
love story. Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook is most definitely the way a love
story should be. This story doesn?t just say happily ever after at the end, it actually takes you there.

Analytical Essay on "The Notebook" Film
In the early 1900's silent films amazed audiences with images, later talkies impressed with sound,
today we have 3D. As technology continues to evolve so too will film genres. Genres, while having
some shared characteristics, also differ in terms of stylistic devices used. For instance, the dramatic
film "The Notebook" effectively uses color to reinforce theme and has plausible performers as the
two main protagonists.
"The Notebook" directed by Nick Cassavetes in 2004 tells the story of a couple's fifty year long love
affair and its trials and tribulations. The film begins in a nursing home where an old man (Noah)
reads a book to an old lady (Allie) suffering from Alzheimer's. Noah, a poor country boy, and Allie,
a rich city girl, meet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their facial expressions, gestures and movements make audiences empathize with the protagonists.
In the scene of their first quarrel Rachel McAdams cries, sobs, portrays despair and pleads to stay
,as realistically as if she feels her character's emotions. In scenes of happy moments she smiles and
laughs sincerely, like when she listens to Noah (Ryan Gosling) sitting next to her. Ryan Gosling also
demonstrated his acting talents in the movie. His character is very romantic and faithful and the
actor expressed these traits very well. For instance, in the scene he first meets her he looks at her
with loving eyes, his eyebrows are raised a bit as he cannot stop admiring her. When other women
try to talk to him, he lets them see their attempts are futile via tone changes and hands crossed on his
chest, which express his love and faithfulness. Such a realistic actors' performance reinforces the
dramatic plot.
Warm and pastel colors predominate in "The Notebook". The creators intended to reinforce the
theme also by means of colors. Episodes, in which Allie and Noah are together, have more white,
beige, pink, light blue and green. For instance, Noah painted the house he restored in white color;
the sky is clear and blue when they are together. The white color of the house represents purity of
Noah's love and his devotion to Allie, and the clear

The Notebook : A Short Story
The Notebook "I am so tired, I need some coffee." said Alex, "I know right."agreed Noah. It was in
the afternoon when Noah, and Alex finished their college classes and were going to a local coffee
shop to get something to drink. They were walking down the street and a man riding a bike dropped
a notebook, they yelled to the man that he dropped his notebook, but he didn't come back. When
sitting in the coffee shop, Noah decided to look through the book, for the name of the owner, so he
turned to the first page and read "This is the property of... NO ONE." It was written in what looked
to be a permanent marker. "'Why would someone not write their name and instead put No One, that
makes no sense"' thought Noah. Alex came back with their drinks, he sat down and Noah caught
him up on what he had read so far. Alex, who was confused by this notebook decided to flip the
page, and what he saw startled him, he saw a picture of him and Noah sitting in the shop in black
and white. When Alex looked up, he saw that nobody was in the shop and that their drinks have
disappeared as well. The notebook on the table was gone, but a message remained " Think quickly
but careful there's only one way out, Signed NO ONE." Panic settled in quickly, "Only one way out,
I have to get my project done for biology!" Exclaimed Noah. "Try not to panic." said Alex, trying to
calm him. "How are you so calm?" said Noah, " We are trapped in a world where there's nobody but
us and that NO ONE person." continued

The Story of a Remarkable, Average Man Names Florian
Florian slept fitfully the night before he died. He dreamed of strange creatures with masked snouts
and madmen in boats, of a wanderer with a spyglass, and of many other things that need not be
mentioned here. He rose in the morning as he always did, by hitting his alarm clock until it shut up.
He shuffled to the bathroom, where he had a staring contest with his bedraggled reflection. The thin
face with dark brown bedhead stared back at him and stuck out its tongue. Florian showered and
dressed quickly, donning his very favorite tie (a navy blue one with oranges on it), drank a cup of
coffee, and moseyed his way down to the front door of his apartment complex.
Now, Florian Jones was a remarkably average man. A little eccentric, perhaps, but fairly normal. He
was exactly thirty–three years, eleven months, and eight days old , and he had always been a
dreamer. Florian loved dreams. In fact, he kept a log of his dreams. He remembered them every
night, as clearly as the day. He had notebooks upon notebooks full of dreams, a dream for every
night since he was eleven years old. He often wondered if there was something more to them and
sometimes spent hours with his notebooks spread around him, trying to make sense of it all. He'd
read all the best books on dream interpretation, but he just couldn't decipher it. Nonetheless, he
continued to immerse himself in his notebooks, searching for answers.
That particular day, Florian did not want to go to work. Not that he ever did. He

THE NOTEBOOK By Nicholas Sparks
The love story between two different teenagers that come from completely different worlds is the
most remarkable. The Notebook is about two young teenagers who fell head over heels with each
other. They got separated by Allie's upper–class parents who insist that Noah isn't right for her. But
that obstacle didn't stop these two young lovers from being together even if it took years. This

Love conquers everything, no matter how hard trials are. Love indeed breaks through any obstacles
that henders two lovers from being together. Even TIME could never stop it.
What this title actually means in the story is a notebook filled with love stories between Allie Nelson
and Noah Calhoun. During the summer that Allie and Noah were in love, they wrote down all of
their memories and what they did over that summer in the "notebook". The notebook tracked their
love for each other and what they did and how they loved to each other from day to day. Even
though they were apart from each other for fourteen years, they both knew that they couldn't live
without each other. Their notebook filled with love stories just couldn't stop them from falling in
love and being with each other. When Allie goes to visit Noah in the book, Noah reads some of the
notebook about what they did over that summer with Allie. That would hopefully make her fall back
in love with Noah again.
REACTION
In the book "The Notebook", the meaning of unconditional love was emphasized through what
happened in the characters' experiences. It can be observed through the flashbacks that since the
main characters were too young at the time they both met each other, they had the tendency to feel

Book Review Of The Notebook By Nicholas Sparks
I read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, a 250 page novel published on October 1, 1996. This book
can be classified as realistic fiction, but is considered to be a romance novel due to the heart pulling
plot line of two star–crossed lovers. My attention was caught quickly when I saw this book, because
I had watched the movie with my girlfriend which motivated me to read it. It took me about three
days to read behind Mrs. Kosters desk, each day during the same week; it was a quick and easy read.
This work was completely fiction; however, Sparks was inspired by his wife's beloved grandparents.
They had spent over sixty years together, with their story being shared with Sparks and his wife,
inspiration from their love made its way into the book. Noah comes back, after fighting in World
War ll, to his home in New Bern, Carolina. Where he spends his days building a house to distract
himself from remencising on a girl he fell in love with over a summer shared together. Allie, who is
about to get married, stumbles upon a newspaper with Noah on it; curiousity gets the best of her and
she decides to visit him. Both have been separated for fourteen years due to social class, with Allie
coming from a wealthy family, and Noah who worked at a lumberyard. Reuniting brings out a tidal
wave of emotions and memories that have been long locked away from both of them, with Noah
being in bewilderment and saying "I still can't believe it's you. How did you find me?" (Sparks 39).

The movie "The Notebook" is the story of Noah and Allie – an elderly couple living the rest of their

Why I Think the Notebook is worth seeing
If you like the simplicity of the 1940's, their clothing, cars, love and romance this might be a movie
you should see and why I really like this movie. It takes you from where you are in your own life,
and into the lives of this couple. Nicholas Sparks wrote this novel from what he witnessed firsthand;
he used the relationship of his wife's grandparents as the basis of this film. And their names are
Noah and Allie; he gives us a glimpse into their lives by sharing their stories. They express their
commitment, devotion, and unwavering love for one another throughout this movie. As well as
disappointment's, such as Allie's parent's dislike of Noah's financial situation and the reality of what
her future might look like. In spite, of the obstacles they faced, and years of separation. Allie and

CHANGE, TRANSITION, AND LOSS FILM REVIEW 2
Summary
"The Notebook" (2004), is a deeply powerful and moving film about the undying love between a
man and woman through the telling of their story of love and loss. Duke, a resident in a nursing
home reads to a fellow resident, an old woman with Alzheimer's, the love story of Allie Hamilton
and Noah Calhoun. Viewers later learn that the woman with Alzheimer's is Allie and that Duke is
Noah. Prior to the advancement of her illness, Allie had written their love story in a notebook and
told Noah to read it to her so that she would "keep coming back to him". Through the sharing of
their personal experiences of love and grief along with the experiences of other characters, viewers
are able to critically reflect on their own life experiences of love and loss and the different ways in
which these experiences have allowed change, growth, and transition in one's life.
Losses/Types of Losses Presented
One of the major types of losses presented in the film, "The Notebook" (2004) is that of ambiguous
loss. According to Harris (2011), "ambiguous loss occurs in the circumstance of relationships and
the absence or presence of an aspect of that

  • 3. Analysis Of The Book ' The Notebook ' Essay Evaluative Essay A romantic drama film is a genre that explores the difficult aspects that come with love. The plot usually includes two people that are in love that can't be together the way they want to be due to obstacles. The obstacles in a romantic drama film can include a family 's disapproval, to forbidden love, to one 's own psychological restrictions. The Notebook is a movie based on a best–selling novel that was written by author Nicholas Sparks. This is a love story that is composed of a series of obstacles between two young people that are madly in love with each other. It perfectly fits and displays the criteria for a successful romantic drama film because it includes the complexity of love, and elicits emotions. In The Notebook there are countless obstacles between the two main characters that are in love. This allows the movie to fit into the drama aspect of the genre, displaying the complexity of their love. Complex love includes the drama, and difficulties of a relationship, while still being closely connected to the romantic parts of a relationship. This is prevalent in The Notebook. Allie and Noah, played by well–known actors Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling, were two people from different social classes. Allie was from a wealthy, privileged upper–class family while Noah was making around 40 cents an hour at a lumber yard job. While love is not confined to the amount of money that each person has, in the 1940's, which is the setting of the movie, social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Notebook Directed By Nick Cassavetes "It was an improbable romance. He was a country boy. She was from the city. She had the world at her feet, while he didn't have two dimes to rub together." In the 2004 movie the Notebook directed by Nick Cassavetes we see an unlikely romance between a rich city girl, Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams), and a poor country boy Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling). Based on the bestselling book by Nicholas Sparks, the Notebook shows us how relationships change throughout different stages of our lives but love will never diminish. The film begins with a scene at a nursing home, where see an old man, Duke, reading to a woman, Allie, whose memory has started to slip due to Alzheimer 's. He pulls an old notebook and in a flashback we are taken to Seabrook Island, North Carolina in the 1940's. This is where we meet Noah Calhoun a dirt poor local kid who is played by Ryan Gosling. Gosling, who is undeniably one of the most popular actors of our generation, does an outstanding job portraying his character. His ease and confidence makes us believe he was made to play this role. When he tells Allie that relationships are something you don't give up on "So it 's not gonna be easy. It 's going to be really hard; we 're gonna have to work at this every day, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, every day. You and me" He speaks with such great passion and emotion that it tugs at our heartstrings. The movie then continues to a carnival where Noah first sees Allie and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Lovers, By Rachel Mcadams And Ryan Gosling "We're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me...everyday." Sound familiar? The lovers are named Allie Hamilton and Noah Calhoun, also known as Duke. As young people, these characters are played by Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling. These actors portray first loves and heartbreak that tugs on your heartstrings beautifully just wanting and waiting for more. Starting off the movie with a beautiful scene looking across a sunrise–filled lake, which it gives off a comfortable, warm feeling to the viewers at home or in the theater. Then it pans out to an elder Noah Calhoun (played by James Garner) taking his daily medicine in a nursing home. Third scene shows an also elderly Allie Hamilton (Gena Rowlands) looking over the lake from her bedroom window. A nurse is asking her several questions about how she is feeling and what she would like to do that day. Allie doesn't give off any interest in doing anything the nurse is suggesting. Noah enters her room with a notebook, offering to read to her. The nurse insists that Allie should do something else but Allie quickly accepts Noah's offer and sits herself down to listen to him read from the notebook that which she wrote many years ago. This sets up the opening of the classic love story, "The Notebook." The setting goes between a summer in South Carolina in the 1940's with the young version of the lovers and present day time with the elderly version ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Events That Shaped My View Of Life During This Course There are three extremely important events that shaped my view of life during this course. Firstly, when I was in this course around my third year, we decided to document our memories in a notebook. This was a notebook we carried around everywhere, and whenever something interesting or exciting happened, we would write it down. We got this idea from a teacher who did the same when he was a student in a similar course. It was a simple spiral bound black notebook, but every time someone said something entertaining or positive, we'd pick someone to write in it, and this person would record this in the notebook. This was something only my class did, and it made us feel extremely unique and close as a class. Before this, we weren't really united and didn't feel as close to one another–but as soon as we began this, we were a patriotic and supportive class. This journal was a transition between us being just a couple of distant girls to very close sisters; through this journaling, I felt united with my class and could confide in them with whatever I was going through. It was always extremely exciting for me as the youngest in the class to see my elder peers write about me, or something interesting about me. Writing our experiences down and keeping a record of our memories helped us keep it fresh, and at our party at the end of the year, we read what we'd written down as a class and laugh about it. As we went on to the fourth year, we tried to continue to do so, but the teacher who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. True Love In Noah Calhoun's The Notebook People say that they are "in love" or that that they think they have found "the one" all of the time. Those words have almost become so easy to use but unfortunately it seems like no one really knows the true meaning of them anymore. So what is love? What is true love? As said in The Notebook, "The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more; that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds."– Noah Calhoun or in Dear John when John says, "and when her lips met mine, I knew that I could to be a hundred and visit every country in the world, but nothing would ever compare to the single moment when I first kissed the girl of my dreams and knew that my love would last forever" –John. Both of those quotes are so powerful and so passionate and both of the men saying them to be so in love with their girls. But was either of these situations true love? Most people would say yes and that is probably why both films went on to be two of the most famous and most favorable love films of our time. But other than their amazing story lines and heart throbbing love stories and slight differences, one thing that is so amazing is just how similar their stories really are. In the Notebook a man by the name of Duke reads a story to a lady who has Alzheimer's and has lost most of her memory. The story is about an upper class seventeen year–old named Allie Hamilton who is spending her summer in Seabrook, South Carolina with her family. There is a local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story then fast–forwards to the year 1946, still in the same city, New Bern, in the deep south of the Unite States. The story ends in the modern era, today, in a nursing home called Creekside Extended Care Facility. PLOT A man named Noah Calhoun retreated back to his hometown or New Bern, North Carolina at the age of 31 from World War 2, which he was fighting in. He purchased an old, very sizable estate for him to enhance. Subsequently, the newspaper decided to publish an article about his accomplishment. When Allie Nelson, a girl who was enamored with Noah Calhoun when they were juveniles, sees the article written about Noah, she knows she must go see him. Allie is engaged to a man named Lon, but informs him she will just be leaving to go visit an antique shop. Upon her arrival in New Bern, passion and vehemence surge the two. • 15. The Notebook Alzheimer's Analysis The movie The Notebook is the love story of Noah and Ally, an elderly couple, who is living out the rest of their days in a retirement home. Though Noah's health doesn't necessarily require the need of this retirement home, he chooses to stay there anyway so he can be close to his love, Ally all of the time. Each day Noah reads to Ally out of his journal a story of two young lovers. However, this story is the story of Noah and Ally when they first met and fell in love. Noah reads out of this journal in hopes that it will trigger something in Ally's memory and she will remember him again. Even through Ally's Alzheimer's prevent her from remembering this, she enjoys hearing Noah read it to her and looks forward to hearing the next section every day. How accurate is this example of Ally's Alzheimer's though? Does this disease truly work the way that they show in this movie? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Alzheimer's is the most common cause of dementia, and is a progressive disease that destroys the memory and other important mental functions. According to alz.org "The most common early symptom of Alzheimer's is difficulty remembering newly learned information because Alzheimer's changes typically begin in the part of the brain that affects learning. As Alzheimer's advances through the brain it leads to increasingly severe symptoms, including disorientation, mood and behavior changes; deepening confusion about events, time and place; unfounded suspicions about family, friends and professional caregivers; more serious memory loss and behavior changes; and difficulty speaking, swallowing and walking." With that being said, Ally would have been less likely to remember all of the staff members that worked with her and the newly formed memories made with them, and more likely to remember things like Noah or how they met. • 17. Questions On Stock Reports Research Essay Stock Reports Research If I had to narrow my composing process down it would be between two processes, the Think–Aloud Protocol & Process Log. A think–aloud protocol is the process of verbally speaking the words as you write them as well as saying aloud what you are thinking. "A process log is a journal in which you discuss what you are writing, what you are reading in relation to your written work, and how writing for class relates to other writing you are doing or have done." I am a mixture of the two, I have a whole written process in my notebook that I use strictly for my business stocks, but as I'm doing the step by step process I recite what I'm doing so I won't forget anything that I have to do. In order to help complete this process I used a website called Screencast– o–Matic, it is basically the same thing as Jing but I actually know how to use screencast. Screencast is a screen recorder website that in this case was used for my business process. With screencast I saw how much I would frequently stop to look at the American Eagle website or to check my email or social media. My process was prolonged by my frequent stops for snacks and chatter with friends and my roommate. My room is always loud because we have plenty of visitors throughout the day; I learned to try to work around the noise. If for some reason I'm not in my room I'm usually out on the steps of the dorms; it's not cool out there but it's a lot quieter with fewer visitors so I get a lot more finished. ... The Notebook Ethos Behind Great Love Lies A Great Story Nicholas Sparks' tragic love story The Notebook is a touching story about two people and their eternal passion of true love which is beautifully portrayed by Nick Cassavetes in the film. Pathos is used in the film to draw members of the audience to the characters and influence them to feel passionate towards the characters. Cassavetes does this by making the movie more dramatic than the book. The director effectively uses pathos to add drama in The Notebook which makes the movie's audience more emotionally connected to the story. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The different descriptions and dialogues of Allie and Noah are what bring the change into their relationship. In the novel, Noah is described as a quiet and shy poet. "Although he was quiet, years of heavy lifting at the lumberyard helped him excel in sports, ... An occasional person found him arrogant; most simply figured he had grown up a bit faster than everyone else." (Sparks 24) Whereas in the film, Noah is very outgoing and confident. He does not stop until he gets what he wants. This is evident when Noah climbs on the ferris wheel and hangs from the bars at the carnival where he asks Allie to go out with him. She refuses and he blackmails her by making her think that he will fall down from such a height. Allie becomes frightened and agrees to go out with him, little did she know that this was his plan all along. The change in Noah's description changes his personality and the way the audience views him as an individual character. Allie and Noah's tone of dialogues are also changed to make them seem more modern. In the book, Allie agrees to spend time with Noah without any objection. "...the four of them stayed at the festival until the crowds were thin and everything closed up for the night. They met the following day, and the day after that, and they soon became inseparable." (Sparks 13) This circumstance would not exist in today's society as females have their personal preferences. This is seen in the movie when Allie plays 'hard to get' and rejects Noah several times when he reminds her of the date. "'What are you doing tonight?' ... 'Why?' 'Why? Our date.' 'What date?' 'The date that you agreed to.' 'No!' 'Yes, you did. You promised, and you swore it.' 'Well, I guess I changed my mind.' ... 'Come on, one date. What's it gonna hurt?' 'Umm..I don't think so.'" Almost everything is being replaced with robots. Machines are being implemented into anywhere and everywhere to make living more simple. The day of robots teaching is appearing in our future generations. In certain areas have already been replaced with notebook computers and ipads. It is a love story that many of us fantasize of living someday. The story unfolds in recent times at a Nursing home with the introduction of an elderly lady (Gena Rowlands) who is being visited by an old man, known as Duke (James Garner), who also resides in the nursing home, and he's there to read her a story. He begins to read about a young girl named Allie (Rachel McAdams) who was visiting a cousin one summer in the late 1940s. As the old man Duke read the story, in a past plot, and the story began to climax, he would be interrupted by someone in the nursing staff, bringing them back to the present. This lineup of events leads to a sense of curiosity as I began to wonder what these two plots have in relation. This curiosity will soon be fulfilled as the story develops, and the two plots start to intertwine. The director of this film did a fantastic job in combining these two plots, and giving the audience just enough time to figure out their relation. He didn?t give it away too soon, or so late that the story got boring or confusing. He also made very good use of underscoring (background music with no apparent source) in a previous scene where Allie and Noah where dancing alone in the middle on nowhere, to the sounds of Billie Holiday. This particular shot was a three minute continuous shot taken with a camera on a 300ft dolly track. The actors and actresses in this film did a remarkable job in playing their roles. The language and wardrobe fit the perfect description of a 40?s teenager. Now, this is what I call a love story. For instance, the dramatic film "The Notebook" effectively uses color to reinforce theme and has plausible performers as the two main protagonists. "The Notebook" directed by Nick Cassavetes in 2004 tells the story of a couple's fifty year long love affair and its trials and tribulations. In the scene of their first quarrel Rachel McAdams cries, sobs, portrays despair and pleads to stay ,as realistically as if she feels her character's emotions. In scenes of happy moments she smiles and laughs sincerely, like when she listens to Noah (Ryan Gosling) sitting next to her. Ryan Gosling also demonstrated his acting talents in the movie. His character is very romantic and faithful and the actor expressed these traits very well. For instance, in the scene he first meets her he looks at her with loving eyes, his eyebrows are raised a bit as he cannot stop admiring her. When other women try to talk to him, he lets them see their attempts are futile via tone changes and hands crossed on his chest, which express his love and faithfulness. Such a realistic actors' performance reinforces the dramatic plot. Warm and pastel colors predominate in "The Notebook". The creators intended to reinforce the theme also by means of colors. Episodes, in which Allie and Noah are together, have more white, beige, pink, light blue and green. • 57. The Story of a Remarkable, Average Man Names Florian Florian slept fitfully the night before he died. He dreamed of strange creatures with masked snouts and madmen in boats, of a wanderer with a spyglass, and of many other things that need not be mentioned here. He rose in the morning as he always did, by hitting his alarm clock until it shut up. He shuffled to the bathroom, where he had a staring contest with his bedraggled reflection. The thin face with dark brown bedhead stared back at him and stuck out its tongue. Florian showered and dressed quickly, donning his very favorite tie (a navy blue one with oranges on it), drank a cup of coffee, and moseyed his way down to the front door of his apartment complex. Now, Florian Jones was a remarkably average man. A little eccentric, perhaps, but fairly normal. He was exactly thirty–three years, eleven months, and eight days old , and he had always been a dreamer. Florian loved dreams. In fact, he kept a log of his dreams. He remembered them every night, as clearly as the day. He had notebooks upon notebooks full of dreams, a dream for every night since he was eleven years old. The Notebook is about two young teenagers who fell head over heels with each other. They got separated by Allie's upper–class parents who insist that Noah isn't right for her. But that obstacle didn't stop these two young lovers from being together even if it took years. Love indeed breaks through any obstacles that henders two lovers from being together. Even TIME could never stop it. What this title actually means in the story is a notebook filled with love stories between Allie Nelson and Noah Calhoun. During the summer that Allie and Noah were in love, they wrote down all of their memories and what they did over that summer in the "notebook". The notebook tracked their love for each other and what they did and how they loved to each other from day to day. Even though they were apart from each other for fourteen years, they both knew that they couldn't live without each other. Their notebook filled with love stories just couldn't stop them from falling in love and being with each other. When Allie goes to visit Noah in the book, Noah reads some of the notebook about what they did over that summer with Allie. That would hopefully make her fall back in love with Noah again. REACTION In the book "The Notebook", the meaning of unconditional love was emphasized through what happened in the characters' experiences. • 63. Book Review Of The Notebook By Nicholas Sparks I read The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks, a 250 page novel published on October 1, 1996. This book can be classified as realistic fiction, but is considered to be a romance novel due to the heart pulling plot line of two star–crossed lovers. My attention was caught quickly when I saw this book, because I had watched the movie with my girlfriend which motivated me to read it. It took me about three days to read behind Mrs. Kosters desk, each day during the same week; it was a quick and easy read. This work was completely fiction; however, Sparks was inspired by his wife's beloved grandparents. They had spent over sixty years together, with their story being shared with Sparks and his wife, inspiration from their love made its way into the book. Noah comes back, after fighting in World War ll, to his home in New Bern, Carolina. Where he spends his days building a house to distract himself from remencising on a girl he fell in love with over a summer shared together. Allie, who is about to get married, stumbles upon a newspaper with Noah on it; curiousity gets the best of her and she decides to visit him. Both have been separated for fourteen years due to social class, with Allie coming from a wealthy family, and Noah who worked at a lumberyard. Reuniting brings out a tidal wave of emotions and memories that have been long locked away from both of them, with Noah being in bewilderment and saying "I still can't believe it's you. How did you find me?" (Sparks 39). Allie slowly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. What Is Kane's Relationship In The Notebook The movie I chose to do was The Notebook. The relationship between Noah and Ally is the ultimate love story in my opinion. It starts out with them as they as older; Ally has Alzheimer's and is in the nursing home because of it. Noah also stays in the nursing home with Ally as well because he wants to be with the love of his life, he does not want to leave her there alone. The whole movie is Noah reading Ally their love story that she wrote a journal of and on the front page of the book she wrote, "Read this to me, and I'll come back to you (The notebook)." What she meant by I will come back to you is that she will at times come back and remember that it is their love story that Noah is telling her, she will realize that he is her husband. Nicholas Sparks really knows how to set a romantic/emotional, but also creates a very predictable love story plot–line. There is always a boy who falls for a girl and has to work extremely hard to get her. Then, something happens, but in the end they are always together. The Notebook and The Choice both show how life is about choices, you have to fight for what you love, and the good guy wins; but, in The Choice the ending will leave you wanting to know more about these characters and their story and that is why The ...
