Mad Cow Disease Analysis
Bovine spongiform encephalopathy is the scientific name for the disease commonly referred to as
mad cow disease (MCD). (WebMD, LLC, 2015) MCD gets its name because when a cow has this
disease it stumbles around and even gets demented or mad. (Chris Woolston, 2015)
This disease effects the central nervous system, mainly the brain of an adult cow. An abnormal
protein called prion is thought to kill the brain cells and create small holes in the brain tissue. MCD
is a disease that progresses very slowly and is fatal. (WebMD, LLC, 2015). MCD has thought to
spread from one cow to another by them eating food that was made from meat and bone from a
contaminated cow carcasses. (Division of Communication and Consumer Affairs,Office of
Communication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This disease gets its name from the German neurologist Hans Gerhard Creutzfeldt and Alfons Maria
Jakob that first identified this disease. (Victor, 2015) VCJD is primarily found in the brain of the
cattle. Abnormal proteins called prions have thought to be the cause of this disease in both cattle and
in humans. These prions cause tiny holes that look like a sponge under a microscope. (Melissa
Conrad Stöppler, 2015) Unlike most viruses and bacteria these prions unfortunately do not die when
exposed to heat, ultraviolet light, and radiation. Disinfectants that are usually used to kill viruses and
bacteria also do not work to kill prions. Even cooking the meat very well will not lower the risk of
prions in the

Cattle Nutrition Paper
Opposing Views of Cattle Nutrition When eating anything, most people check the labels to see what
the food all consists of. Just like when eating hamburger, some people may want to know if the
hamburger came from grass–fed or grain–fed cattle. Depending on the person, they might prefer one
over the other. Some people may think that one tastes better than the other or they may just think it
is healthier. Not only might the meat coming from the cattle be affected, but also the milk coming
from a cow. Either way, further explanations for grass–fed vs. grain–fed cattle will be discussed in
this paper.
To start this paper off right, it is important to know the definitions of both grass–fed and grain–fed.
According to IGrow a Service of SDSU Extension: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cows who are on grass tend to not produce nearly as much but it is proven that the less milk a cow
produces, the more vitamins in her milk. This is because a cow has a set amount of vitamins to
transfer to her milk, and if she's bred, fed, and injected to be a Super Producer, her milk has fewer
vitamins per glass. It is a watered down version of the real thing. (Super Natural 1) Depending on
the person, whoever it may be, might like a more watered down milk. Even if the milk has fewer
vitamins, the taste could be the ticket for certain people. Others may like thicker milk with more
vitamins although that would mean a slower milk production. It all comes down to the consumer
and what they want. Just like earlier in this paper when discussing the differences about grass–fed
vs. grain–fed beef. Slight differences have the ability to make or break a person's opinions and
thoughts. Some people may also be pickier than others when it comes to their food and

Angus Beef And Wagyu Beef: What Are The Differences
southforkangus.com.au – Angus Beef and Wagyu Beef: What are the Differences?
Today, many restaurants will try to entice customers into their establishments by advertising a
particular type of beef. Two of the most popular for their flavour and tenderness at the moment are
Angus beef and Wagyu beef. While they are both types of beef, they do differ from each other in
their origins and other characteristics. We explain what each type beef is to further your knowledge
on both of them.
What Is Angus Beef?
Angus beef is from the Aberdeen Angus cattle that originated many years ago in Scotland. Angus
was bred to endure the cold, harsh winters of the country and therefore, is a hearty breed. As a result
the males and females develop significant muscle mass that provides the various cuts of it with
sufficient marbling to add flavour and tenderness. Marbling content also highly influences the
grading of this meat according to the Meat Standards Australia or the MSA. Australians first starting
raising this breed during the 1820s, and you can find herds in almost every part of this country at
present.
What Is Wagyu Beef? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact the meaning of the name is that the 'wa' means Japanese and the 'gyu' means beef. This beef
consists of a variety of breeds from Japan and different combinations of breeds, at times. An
example of the latter is crossing a Wagyu bull with an Hereford cow, but this is considered a sub–
breed for Wagyu and the purebred is the more luxurious form since it is considered higher quality.
The favourable characteristics of Waygu include superior marbling that calls for its increased price
in restaurants and marketplaces. Both the crossbred Wagyu and purebred Wagyu are plentiful in

Colorimetric Analysis Lab Report
The weight of the fresh meat was 4.49 grams. After fully extracting all of the fat in the fresh meat,
the weight of the defatted meat was 1.83 grams. Using these two weights, the weight of the
extracted fat was determined to be 2.66 grams. After calculations, approximately 59.24% of the pre–
packaged meat was made of fat. The remaining 40.76% of the pre–packaged meat was pure meat.
These percentages also indicate how much consumers are paying for meat and fat. For every $5.49
spent on pre–packaged meat, consumers are paying $2.23 for meat they can eat. There is a
possibility that these calculations are not completely accurate for a few reasons. The first reason is
the fat was not complete extracted from the acetone wash before placed into the ... Show more

This experiment separates meat into an acetone–soluble part and an acetone–insoluble part. The
calculations are based on the principal components of meat being fat (acetone soluble) and protein
(acetone insoluble or fat–free meat in report sheet). More realistically, the principal components of
meat are fat, protein, and water. Water is acetone soluble. Based on this information, the calculations
correctly calculate what quantity, % fat or % fat–free meat? Is the incorrectly calculated quantity
over or underestimated?
The percentage of fat–free meat is calculated correctly. However, the percentage of fat was
calculated incorrectly because water is acetone–soluble thus water was also extracted along with the
fat. As a result, the percentage of fat in the meat was overestimated. 2. This experiment separates the
fat from the protein by dissolving the fat in acetone. What advantage does using the Wiley extractor
have over simply pouring acetone over the meat again and again?
The first advantage of using the Wiley extractor is that it is automatic, thus allowing me to do other
things as the fat is automatically extracted. The second advantage is the acetone is self contained and
recycled within the wiley extracted; this meant that only one batch of acetone would be used instead
of multiple batches of acetone by simply pouring it over the meat again and

Leading Causes Of Food : The Overconsumption Of Meat
We are eating ourselves to death. The overconsumption of meat is proving to be detrimental to
consumer health, the environment, and society. Preventable diseases are on the rise and resources
are being wasted. The rate at which we are currently consuming meat is unsustainable and we are
paying for it.
Meat, especially processed meat, has proven to be unhealthy for humans. Any health benefits
provided are promptly negated by the costs. According to the Chronic Disease Prevention and
Health Promotion Center, in 2014, seven of the ten leading causes of fatality in the United States
were preventable chronic diseases. Heart disease and cancer comprise forty–six percent of all deaths
and a over a third of American's are considered obese (U.S Department 1). Meat has long been
associated with multiple cancers, type two diabetes, obesity, infertility, cardiovascular disease, and
diverticulitis (Harvard 8, Mari–Sanchis 1).
The consumption of protein derived from meat is detrimental on a cellular level. Protein from red
meat specifically is enriched with a sialic acid known as N–glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc).
When Neu5Gc is introduced to the tissues within the body, it serves as an antigen. If a body contains
antibodies against this antigen, then it elicits an immune response against Neu5Gc. The result is
systemic inflammation and an increased risk of carcinoma ("Red Meat" 1). Americans eat an
average of seventy–one pounds of red meat annually (Barclay 2). Conversely, 40,710

Persuasive Essay On Animal Farms
Each day, millions of Americans flock to grocery stores, picking out the food they plan to eat, often
placing a beef product in their shopping cart. Most people set it down in their shopping cart and
keep going along their day, not even thinking about how the animal it came from lived its life, was
killed, and how the meat was packed. However, there are many people who oppose the meat
industry's execution of these processes, regardless of it being very efficient and inexpensive. There
have been many inside investigations attempting to expose the meat industry, making it known to
the public how poorly these animals, predominantly cows, are treated, in order to make a new law
that would change the methods used. These exploitations have been ... Show more content on

Cattle, when down, are branded as unfit for humans to eat by the federal government. These cows
are "three times likelier to harbor a potentially deadly strain of E. coli, and at higher risk of carrying
salmonella bacteria and transmitting bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease, as it is
quaintly known" (Solotaroff). This is mainly due to the fact that the floors are uncleaned, and
covered with the urine and feces of cows and other farm animals that may pass by that area. Farmers

Animal Abuse And Its Effects On America
Animal abuse is frowned upon in America. However, we haven't any right to say something like
this, as it happens all the time right under our noses, specifically on our dinner plates. From
Chickens, Ducks, and Geese to Cows, Pigs, and Sheep They all suffer from abuse every day. It is
sickening to know that the food I eat has come from an animal who was not grown with care and
had been fed a diet that does not register within its normal eating habits. It is disturbing to see
animals being raised to be so heavy that they cannot support their own bodies and collapse under
their own weight. It is assumed that the animals we eat are properly cared for, when in reality this is
not the case. While the farms we imagine to be bright and idealistic ... Show more content on

Article Number 1 Title: "There May Be a Little Poop in Your Starbucks Iced Coffee"
Author: Clint Rainy
Date of Article: March 1, 2017
Summary of Topic:
What are faecal coliforms? These are microscopic bacteria which originate from human waste. In
other words, the intestines of warm–blooded animals. Such bacteria often pollute water sources
however in the case of the following article, faecal coliforms were found in the ice of the Starbucks
food franchise. The issue with faecal coliforms is that their presence in water indicates the presence
of other more dangerous bacteria, it is this more dangerous bacteria that causes water–borne
diseases such as cholera or typhoid which is deadly. (Washington State ... Show more content on

(Rainy, 2017)
Article Analysis:
The scandal affecting Starbucks in this particular article directly links to the business topic of
marketing and more specifically, the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) no.68 of 2008. Traces of
faecal bacteria do not belong in beverages. What this scandal says about the Starbucks franchise is
that it is negligent, unsanitary and ultimately does not care for the well–being of its consumers.
According to the CPA, which is a legal document that protects the rights of consumers, "Consumers
have the right to fair value, good quality and safety of goods and services". Unfortunately, the
scandal in the article is an infringement of those rights because the iced coffee at Starbucks was of
poor quality and had the potential to make customers very sick.
The following is not mentioned in the article; however, I think that after such an infringement, that
particular Starbucks franchise will most probably be under close surveillance and have spontaneous
checks from the food industry regulators from the UK. This will negativity affect staff as they will
always be feeling on edge.
In addition to that, Starbucks will have to also make an effort and spend money in terms of
minimizing the effects of the negative publicity it gained. Not only was the brand exposed, but it
was exposed of national television in the UK. Such exposure will reduce consumer confidence
because the buyers behaviour has been negatively influenced

violently from the blow landing directly atop of the charcoal Bar–B–Que that was still cooking

Analysis Of The Article ' Tenderloin 's A Steal, But At...
Meat is one of the most basic building blocks of human life. We have relied on meat in one way or
another virtually since the dawn of time. Humans as a whole have become almost dependent on the
constant and readily available supply of meat, in some way or another. Yet, what our over
consumption of animal meat has done to the meat market is unacceptable, to say the least.
Industrialized meat has left such a stain on the environment, human health, and the overall well–
being of the animals we consume. In the article, "Tenderloin's a Steal, But At What Moral Price?" by
John Kessler, the question of whether or not to buy the industrially raised tenderloin or spend a few

Focusing on cattle (since Tenderloin comes from a cow), most industrial cattle farms are called
'C.A.F.O's (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations). Basically, they are unhealthy 'farms' where
cattle are cramped into unsanitary, small, unnatural spaces. To put it lightly, the industrial farming of
cattle is incredibly harmful to the animal's health. In the book "The Omnivores Dilemma" by
Michael Pollan, he talks about how "... 534's eyes look a little bloodshot. Dr. Metzin had told me
that some animals are irritated by the feedlot dust. The problem gets especially serious in the
summer time..." (Pollan 80). Not only would buying sustainably raised meat help the environment
and the animal itself, it would help human health as well. Because of the corn diet industrial cattle
are fed, the meat is much more fattening. Butchers like to use the term "marbled", but in reality, that
just means there is more fat lined throughout the cut of meat. With all that fat, humans are more
susceptible to getting heart disease, among other fatal diseases. Aside from the fat content of the
meat, the problem of hormones comes up. While it isn't as big a deal, seeing as almost everything
we eat has some form of hormones in it, there still is a threat. Hamblin says that while we don't have
to worry about the excess of hormones in our meat, it's important to note that "80 percent of

Dairy Cows Rumination Time
Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease, diet
composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other health
statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). Studies conducted by Soriani, Panella, & Calamari (2013),
uncovered differences in the rumination times of healthy and sick cows. It was identified that lower
ruminations times show signs of heath disorders. Identifying such patterns in dairy cows will enable
an early detection of diseases and in some cases will save the cow/s from death. Rumination Time
data can be also used to assess relationships to the incidence of clinical symptoms of diseases and
metabolic–inflammatory indices in the blood (Soriani, Panella, & Calamari, 2013). As Calving
season approaches, cows display a change in the behavioral patterns and also change in rumination
patters. Conditions associated with calving kill 31% of the dairy cattle worldwide (Menzies ,

They result in an increase in veterinary costs, culling rates and indirectly result in production and

during the calving period, is related to various health conditions, inflammation blood markers and
diseases commonly found during the first lactation month (Calamari, et al., 2014). Rumination time
is also a very accurate parameter for an early identification of metabolic disorders such as ruminal

Making Coffee
We need to keep our priorities straight here so coffee first the old–fashioned way.
Coffee is brewed using a handful of grounds to one cup of water. You would grind your own beans
using a hand grinder. Whole unroasted (green) beans would be the best way for Preppers to store
large amounts of coffee.
This coffee was often called six–shooter coffee. Put the grounds in the water and boil. You can add
eggs shells to help settle the grounds, and in some cases, a cup of cold water added just before
pouring will help settle the grounds as well. A dash of salt will help with bitterness.
Green coffee beans can be roasted in a skillet. You simply roast until brown, but it requires patience
and you cannot walk away to gather firewood while the beans roast.
There are several stages to the roasting process and you can ruin the beans if you let them roast too
long. The beans will turn yellow, and then crack to emit steam in the first stage, and once the beans
turn brown you can stop if you want or continue on to create a darker roast. It all depends on your
taste.
If you leave the beans roasting, you will hear another crack and the beans may begin

I have lived in Small–town, USA my entire life. I have lived on a farm, been around farms and know

farming is really a factory.
I understand that farming has changed over the past 50 years. I assumed the change was due to
technology. I also understand that the demands for food are much greater now than decades ago. The
dynamic of family life has changed and the conveniences of meal time are much different now as
well. I would never have assumed it was due to capitalism. When my grandmother was living, she
would tell me stories about raising her food for the family. She said she rarely went to a grocery

Essay on The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, Jr.
At the beginnings of the 1900s, some leading magazines in the U.S have already started to exhibit
choking reports about unjust monopolistic practices, rampant political corruption, and many other
offenses; which helped their sales to soar. In this context, in 1904, The Appeal to Reason, a leading
socialist weekly, offered Sinclair $500 to prepare an exposé on the meatpacking industry (Cherny).
To accomplish his mission, Sinclair headed to Chicago, the center of the meatpacking industry, and
started an investigation as he declared" I spent seven weeks in Packingtown studying conditions
there, and I verified every smallest detail, so that as a picture of social conditions the book is as
exact as a government report" (Sinclair, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And he writes of dishonest politicians and tricky real–estate salesmen. At the core of the story,
Sinclair tells about the devastation and the falling apart of Jurgis's family as a result of the ruthless,
abusive, and oppressive nature of work and life in Packingtown. By the end, Jurgis wanders alone,
deprived of all dignity. He comes across a rally of political socialists, hears a speech on socialism,
and enthusiastically converts to that cause. In the last chapters of the novel, Sinclair manifests
arguments for socialism, in the form of speeches that Jurgis hears. The book ends with an appeal of
a socialist speaker to "Organize! Organize! Organize!" so that "Chicago will be ours! Chicago will
be ours! CHICAGO WILL BE OURS!" (Sinclair 372–73)
So, according to some critics, it becomes clear that The Jungle is a propaganda destined to promote
socialism over capitalism, and to reveal the hollowness of the American Dream, which capitalists
define it as being the ability for people to improve their lot and to attain their aspiration for better
lives through hard work. Throughout The Jungle, Sinclair portrays the American Dream from a
socialist vision, and illustrates it as being a mere fictitious fantasy by the capitalists in order to keep
the working class blind to the truth and under their everlasting hegemony.
In regards to the American capitalist system, in Sinclair's viewpoint,

Mad Cow Disease
Overview–

sensory system) in cows. It likewise is known as ox–like spongiform encephalopathy, or BSE.
Individuals can't get frantic dairy animals illness. Be that as it may, in uncommon cases they may
get a human type of frantic dairy animal's infection called variation Creutzfeldt–Jakob malady

Causes–
Specialists are not certain what causes distraught bovine ailment or vCJD. The main hypothesis is
that the ailment is brought on by irresistible proteins called prions. In influenced dairy animals,
these proteins are found in the cerebrum, spinal string, and small digestive tract. There is no
confirmation that prions are found in muscle meat, (for example, steak) or in milk. At the point

Drain and drain items from sheep can transmit prions; as of now bovine's milk has not been

Fat people usually think its bad for the body . The latest research results from Pennsylvania State

Researchers concluded that eating monounsaturated fatty acids are better for your heart than eating
special diets with lean products. The research also shows that Wagyu meat can actually help to
reduce cholesterol levels. Wagyu beef is visually striking because of its wonderful marbling, which
results in a never–before–experienced succulence, sure to send your taste buds reeling. Wagyu fat is
monounsaturated, which has been proven to be better for your health, and melts at standard room
temperatures. The rich quality of Wagyu beef gives it that old–fashioned meaty taste when prepared

Case Study Where Have You Been
Case
Where Have You Been is an exercise to assess one's exposure to the rest of the world's people.
To meet Wall Street's expectations for revenue growth, Ruth's Chris must expand. The logically
chosen model was Market Development Model, which dictated the entry of Ruth's Chris into new
market with same product. The critical issues facing Ruth's Chris are:
1) Which market should Ruth's Chris enter first?
2) Should franchising continue to be the exclusive international mode of entry?
3) Were there opportunities for joint ventures or company–owned stores in certain markets?
4) How could new potential franchisees be identified and evaluated?
5) Was there an opportunity to find a global partner?

Coincidentally, Japan is also the highest importer of USDA fresh chilled beef:
Japan was also one of the countries with highest population, at 127 millions, and a higher than
average urbanization rate, at 65%. Although Japan was not ranked very high in beef consumption
per capita, its population and high income per capita would make up the difference because a small
percentage of this population could still provide a significant pool of customers. Based on the
quantitative criteria, Japan appeared to be the most attractive foreign market for Ruth's Chris to
enter. As a side note, Ruth's Chris already has franchises in Taiwan and Hong Kong, and it would
also make logistical sense to consider an expansion to Japan since there is already a products
support network in place. Politically, Japan is a pro–U.S. country, and with both countries enjoying
relatively free trading atmosphere, it appeared to be a perfect match. Culturally, Japan's business and
marketing meetings are typically conducted over dinner, and fine dining restaurants such as Ruth's
Chris would fit this scenario very well indeed.

Animal Cruelty : The Meat And Dairy Industry
Animal cruelty continues to plague the meat and dairy industry and a policy to reverse this is
enacting stricter regulations on meat and dairy labels that explicitly state the additives and
preservatives used on the product. Moreover, my policy will persuade people to purchase meat and
dairy that is ethically raised and is not made with preservatives or additives, this is my value of
health. Moreover, my policy is for those who eat meat and dairy and are unaware of the health side
affects of consuming it and the animal cruelty that goes into producing a piece of meat or glass of
milk, which encompasses my value of compassion. We are a compassionate species who turns the
channel during an ASPCA commercial. We root for Nemo, Babe and Bambi yet we watch the movie
whilst eating fish, pork or venison. The hypocrisy is unbelievable yet not talked about. Most
Americans do not recognize this link between our compassion and the animals we eat and the
hypocrisy that surrounds it. In this essay I address the compassion humans posses and how it is
being wiped out through eating meat and dairy. I also address how we have the potential to rid the
meat and dairy industry of the abuse. I will also discuss how meat and dairy is detrimental to our
health.

The Causes Of The Failure Of Capitalism In The Jungle By...
The Jungle by Upton Sinclair was written to expose the brutality faced by the workers in the
meatpacking industry. He wanted to show people what was really going on in the factory because
few people were informed about these companies" work conditions". He wanted to show the public
that meat was diseased, rotten, and contaminated. This revelation shocked the public which later led
to the creation of the federal laws on food and safety. Sinclair strongly shows the failure of
capitalism in the meatpacking industry which he viewed as inhuman, destructive, unjust, brutal, and
violent. (Middlebury) Sinclair was an American writer born in Baltimore. He was struggling to live
a basic life, and he started reading about socialism. He believed that America would vote for
peaceful negations , So the government will take ownership of its business. He then joined the
socialist party in 1903, He began to write for the company "Appeal To Reason" which was a
socialist magazine. The meat packing company workers went on strikes, the strikes broke quickly
because the company replaced the workers. This, kept the line running and the other families became
Impoverished . After this incident , the Appeal to Reason suggested him to write about the strikes.
He went to Chicago to research about the conditions of the workers, and he personally interviewed
the workers in the factories . Later his writing became very famous and contained obvious basia.

Brangus cattle come in different colors such as red and black. The Brangus breed is actually a very

appealing look, they have a smaller hump–like figure on their backs similar to a Brahman. Brangus
cows can be a mix of one to three–quarters brahman, the rest Angus. These cattle have many
different characteristics. Male Brangus cattle have the hump on their back, but not overly big like
Brahman. The females do not have this lump on their back though, they have much looser skin on

The Lokal
In my ceaseless visits to new cafes that seem to be sprouting every other day in this tiny island, it is
only natural that I won't like some. But it is also natural to have a favourite one that shines.
That's The Lokal.
This newly opened Aussie–inspired café along Neil Road is not your normal stop–by dining spot. I
was welcomed by the casual retro interior and comforting natural light shining in from the French
windows, one step into it and I had my heart on sleeve already. The open–concept kitchen where one

countless typical and pretentious cafes that have sprouted in recent years. My first impression of the
place heralded high expectations and true enough, The Lokal was more than extraordinary.

The Fda And The Usda Deems It Safe For Beef Manufacturers
The FDA and the USDA deem it safe for beef manufacturers to use ammonia in their meat filler. In
fact "70% of meat filler contains ammonia" (Avila, "70 Percent of Ground Beef at Supermarkets

actually makes up the meat they are consuming. Because the hamburger is such a staple in many
American's diets it didn't take long for someone to develop a cheap solution to produce more burger

Ammonia: Beef or Pink Slime?
By: Sara Beth Wilken
In 1984, the humorous advertising slogan for Wendy's fast food chain, "Where 's the beef?" became
very popular and was meant to show their beef patties were much larger when compared to other
fast food burger establishments (Reno Gazette). The pictures of their patties were obviously bigger,
but we all missed the most important question. What is in the beef patties?
Americans consume approximately "5 billion hamburgers each year which equates to roughly 1.2
billion pounds of meat" (Reno gazette). Most consumers assume that the hamburger they eat is
composed primarily of meat. However, Fast Food Burgers: What are we really eating? Published a
recent study that analyzed eight different brands of fast food hamburgers revealing a different truth
(Reno gazette). The answer of what our burgers are made of is mostly water. The amount of water in
these burgers was as much as "37–64 percent which is something most likely all consumers would
never consider" (Reno gazette). This raises the question; how much actual beef are the burgers we
consume made of? Surprisingly, the meat content was as low as "2 to 15 percent" in

The Hardest Pieces Of Meat
One of the hardest pieces of meat to cook is the Tri–tip steak roast, because most are three pounds
and many tend to burn the outside of the meat while the middle is stone cold raw. I like my meat
cooked to a nice medium temperature, I feel the best way to cook a Tri–tip steak is on an outdoor
briquette barbeque, anything other than this is just not doing this piece of meat any justice.
Let 's start with the grocery store, to have the best meat that will melt in your mouth, always start
with a nice piece of raw beef. Meat is graded on a scale according to marbling effects. Nice
Restaurants only used USDA Prime. You and I can 't buy Prime meat in the grocery store. The
USDA grades meat, and Prime is young, well–fed cattle and has an abundant marbling. Most
grocery stores can carry USDA Choice meat, and this is my recommendation of what to buy; it is
less marbling but is still very tender and juicy. You have to be careful, some stores don 't carry this
and try to sell the lowest grade which is USDA Select. Select is fairly less tender, less marbling ,
less on flavor and juiciness. Stay away from USDA Select. Vons carries a nice USDA Choice meat,
so I recommend it.
Seasoning the meat is a crucial element of this process. I like to bring my roast out of the
refrigerator and season it, letting it sit on the counter so it comes to room temperature, while my
briquettes are getting ready on the barbeque. Allowing the meat come fully up to temperature will
help the meat

Cattle Farming Safe For All Humanity
As we know there are differences between locally grown, organic, and grass–fed beef, however,
farmer working conditions are not so different. Grass–fed farms feed their cattle the closest they can
to a natural diet of year–round pasture grazing and substitutes such as; alfalfa and hay in the
offseason. On organic farms, workers strive to follow the USDA guidelines and prepare for yearly
inspections. Local, also known as, independent farmers may choose to raise their cattle organically,
by natural grass feeding or mixed. These farms raise large herds but not nearly as large as
conventional factory farms. On Organic farms, long hours and hard work are spent ensuring the land
is certified organic, the cattle are served only organic feed, and that the cattle graze every day, all
year. On organic farms, there is no use of hormones, antibiotics or other hazardous contributions.
Deeming these methods of cattle farming safe for all humanity. Independent farmers withstand long
hours and strenuous tasks to ensure cattle are raised humanely and the environment is, for the most
part, unharmed. It is very common for these farms to be family owned and employed. Proper
handling and safety methods become almost second nature for family members. During the hiring
process, background knowledge of raising cattle and use of farm equipment are key. There is much
work involved maintaining a wide variety of heavy equipment including tractors, windmills, and

Summary The final chapter summarizes the research problem, data collection methodology, and the
analysis of the data supporting this feasibility study. The research conclusions will provide
awareness of the feasibility supporting the final recommendations concerning a small–scale natural
grass–fed cattle ranch in North Platte, Nebraska. The purpose of this research is to determine the
feasibility of starting a small–scale cattle ranch, focused on raising natural grass–fed cattle in North
Platte, Nebraska. The research examines operating costs associated with small–scale natural grass–
fed cattle operations to determine the profitability and sustainability of a small–scale natural grass–
fed cattle ranch. Chapter 1 defined the research problem, the purpose of the study, provided
definitions, assumptions and limitations to the study, and presented four research questions for this
feasibility study: 1. What are the operating costs associated with raising natural grass–fed cattle? 2.
Can the North Platte area sustain a natural grass–fed cattle ranch? 3. Will direct or on–line sales
produce more revenue? 4. Will the cattle ranch be profitable within five years? Chapter 2 reviewed
literature gathered by the researcher to conduct the feasibility study. This literature examines 10
aspects of establishing and operating a natural grass–fed cattle ranch. Scholarly research indicated

Canada also exported most of its meat to the United States, and at
that time it was the world's largest beef importing country. The US also had a case of mad cow
disease on December 23, 2003. This horrible disease is a chronic, degenerative disorder that affects
the central nervous system of cattle. The infected cow was from
a farm in Washington. After killing the cattle, it was sold out with out the owner's knowledge that
the cow was infected with the deadly disease. Right when the US department of agriculture (USDA)
found out, they launched an emergency investigation that involved the United States and Canada.
Canada and the States had a goal which

Some people say that all slaughtered cows should be tested, but the problem is that many of these
cows are very young and the disease will not show up in the cows until they have reached 30
months of age. DeHaven also said that "This is a disease with a very long incubation period–
typically three to eight years." He also states that" To suggest that we would test all animals

disease." A professor at the University of Maryland says that the disease will replicate in some tissue
parts of the body during incubation periods, and only after three years it

Research Summary An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of feeding frequency on
performance of grazing beef steers. Thirty–two head of crossbred beef steers were weaned and
shipped from the Brown Loam Experiment Station in Raymond, MS to the White Sand Unit outside
of Poplarville, MS. Cattle were weighed and re–vaccinated upon arrival, and then allowed a week
for acclimation to individual feeding tubs. The steers were then stratified by body weight into three
treatment groups of eight head. The treatment groups consisted of: control, no supplemental feed;
weekly, supplemental feed fed once a week; and daily, supplemental feed fed daily. Initial body
weight was recorded, after which, each treatment group was maintained across three pastures with
ad libitum access to mineral. Feed and pasture samples were taken during the study to determine
nutritive value. Treatment group 1X was fed once a week anywhere from 6–9 lbs. of feed depending
on stratified body weight, and were allotted 45 minutes to one hour to finish. Treatment group 7X

No differences were seen in performance of steers across all treatments. Final BW shows that in
each treatment the steers gained on average 15 kg over the 28–day process. As noted on Table 3,
DMI was greater for steers fed once a day than for steers fed once a week, and in the control group.
However, the results show that ADG for the control was greater overall. Therefore performance was
improved no matter what type of supplemental intake. Results of cost take into account cost of feed,
labor, and a pasture acre fee. Therefore, it is cheaper overall to supplement cattle on pasture rather
than feeding weekly or once a day. Several possibilities as to why performance was not affected may

Essay on Customer Intimacy: Mancini's Char House
Mancini's Char House off West 7th Street in St. Paul, Minnesota has been a local tradition for over

customer intimacy, target marketing, competitive advantage and distinctive competence advantage

someone who lived down the street. If you were in the mood for a little pasta topped with parmesan
cheese he would go back to the kitchen and boil you pasta even though it wasn't on the menu.
"Customer–intimate companies don't deliver what the market wants but what a specific customer
wants. The customer–intimate company makes a business of knowing the people it sells to and the
products and services they need." Nick Mancini made a very successful business out of knowing
what his customers specifically wanted.
Mancini's has always offered choice grade steaks at competitive prices. An eight ounce sirloin steak
dinner is $21.95 (includes a side) at Mancini's. Some other popular steak houses throughout St. Paul
today are Kincaid's they offers a petite filet mignon for $39.95. The Strip Club offers a six ounce
filet for $42.00. Bennett's Chop & Rail house offers a ten ounce choice grilled sirloin for $19.00.
Mancini's prices give them a competitive advantage over the competition. Nick Mancini and his
sons Pat and John Mancini who helped their father run the family business gives Mancini's a
distinctive competence advantage over the competition. Everyone that comes to Mancini's receives

Animal Consumption and Waste
Food is very important. No matter who or what you are, we all need to eat food. It is not just a thing
to fill people up to survive throughout the day; it has more than one important uses. Animals,
pricing, and waste are some of the factors that come from food. Animals are big part of the food
industry. Just like plants, there are different types like cows, chicken, and lamb. Although there is
variety and growing populations, humans are increasing in population too. These creatures or, our
"main meat" are constantly being slaughtered. They are becoming more of a produce than an
innocent living animal. If this keeps up we will not realize the decrease in meat in our market fast
enough in order to help preserve these poor animals because we eat them too frequently. There are
people who decide to not eat called vegetarians but they have different types like some eat fish and
some do not eat eggs. They are helping with sticking to eat more vegetables and becoming animals
friendly to our "main meat". If we all could help everyone out by eating less meat and especially less
greasy and fattening fast food, cows and the others can be though of a respectable farm animal and
not just moving beef. Many things are expensive now days because prices skyrocketed! The
cheapest thing that I can think of are: little coin toy and candy machines. Just one cheap toy or
candy will cost twenty–five cents! Food has also increased in price. It is understandable that stores

Mad Cow Disease Analysis

  • 1. Mad Cow Disease Analysis Bovine spongiform encephalopathy is the scientific name for the disease commonly referred to as mad cow disease (MCD). (WebMD, LLC, 2015) MCD gets its name because when a cow has this disease it stumbles around and even gets demented or mad. (Chris Woolston, 2015) This disease effects the central nervous system, mainly the brain of an adult cow. An abnormal protein called prion is thought to kill the brain cells and create small holes in the brain tissue. MCD is a disease that progresses very slowly and is fatal. (WebMD, LLC, 2015). MCD has thought to spread from one cow to another by them eating food that was made from meat and bone from a contaminated cow carcasses. (Division of Communication and Consumer Affairs,Office of Communication, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This disease gets its name from the German neurologist Hans Gerhard Creutzfeldt and Alfons Maria Jakob that first identified this disease. (Victor, 2015) VCJD is primarily found in the brain of the cattle. Abnormal proteins called prions have thought to be the cause of this disease in both cattle and in humans. These prions cause tiny holes that look like a sponge under a microscope. (Melissa Conrad Stöppler, 2015) Unlike most viruses and bacteria these prions unfortunately do not die when exposed to heat, ultraviolet light, and radiation. Disinfectants that are usually used to kill viruses and bacteria also do not work to kill prions. Even cooking the meat very well will not lower the risk of prions in the ... • 3. Cattle Nutrition Paper Opposing Views of Cattle Nutrition When eating anything, most people check the labels to see what the food all consists of. Just like when eating hamburger, some people may want to know if the hamburger came from grass–fed or grain–fed cattle. Depending on the person, they might prefer one over the other. Some people may think that one tastes better than the other or they may just think it is healthier. Not only might the meat coming from the cattle be affected, but also the milk coming from a cow. Either way, further explanations for grass–fed vs. grain–fed cattle will be discussed in this paper. To start this paper off right, it is important to know the definitions of both grass–fed and grain–fed. According to IGrow a Service of SDSU Extension: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cows who are on grass tend to not produce nearly as much but it is proven that the less milk a cow produces, the more vitamins in her milk. This is because a cow has a set amount of vitamins to transfer to her milk, and if she's bred, fed, and injected to be a Super Producer, her milk has fewer vitamins per glass. It is a watered down version of the real thing. (Super Natural 1) Depending on the person, whoever it may be, might like a more watered down milk. Even if the milk has fewer vitamins, the taste could be the ticket for certain people. Others may like thicker milk with more vitamins although that would mean a slower milk production. It all comes down to the consumer and what they want. Just like earlier in this paper when discussing the differences about grass–fed vs. grain–fed beef. Slight differences have the ability to make or break a person's opinions and thoughts. Some people may also be pickier than others when it comes to their food and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Angus Beef And Wagyu Beef: What Are The Differences southforkangus.com.au – Angus Beef and Wagyu Beef: What are the Differences? Today, many restaurants will try to entice customers into their establishments by advertising a particular type of beef. Two of the most popular for their flavour and tenderness at the moment are Angus beef and Wagyu beef. While they are both types of beef, they do differ from each other in their origins and other characteristics. We explain what each type beef is to further your knowledge on both of them. What Is Angus Beef? Angus beef is from the Aberdeen Angus cattle that originated many years ago in Scotland. Angus was bred to endure the cold, harsh winters of the country and therefore, is a hearty breed. As a result the males and females develop significant muscle mass that provides the various cuts of it with sufficient marbling to add flavour and tenderness. Marbling content also highly influences the grading of this meat according to the Meat Standards Australia or the MSA. Australians first starting raising this breed during the 1820s, and you can find herds in almost every part of this country at present. What Is Wagyu Beef? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact the meaning of the name is that the 'wa' means Japanese and the 'gyu' means beef. This beef consists of a variety of breeds from Japan and different combinations of breeds, at times. An example of the latter is crossing a Wagyu bull with an Hereford cow, but this is considered a sub– breed for Wagyu and the purebred is the more luxurious form since it is considered higher quality. The favourable characteristics of Waygu include superior marbling that calls for its increased price in restaurants and marketplaces. Both the crossbred Wagyu and purebred Wagyu are plentiful in Australia ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Colorimetric Analysis Lab Report The weight of the fresh meat was 4.49 grams. After fully extracting all of the fat in the fresh meat, the weight of the defatted meat was 1.83 grams. Using these two weights, the weight of the extracted fat was determined to be 2.66 grams. After calculations, approximately 59.24% of the pre– packaged meat was made of fat. The remaining 40.76% of the pre–packaged meat was pure meat. These percentages also indicate how much consumers are paying for meat and fat. For every $5.49 spent on pre–packaged meat, consumers are paying $2.23 for meat they can eat. There is a possibility that these calculations are not completely accurate for a few reasons. The first reason is the fat was not complete extracted from the acetone wash before placed into the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This experiment separates meat into an acetone–soluble part and an acetone–insoluble part. The calculations are based on the principal components of meat being fat (acetone soluble) and protein (acetone insoluble or fat–free meat in report sheet). More realistically, the principal components of meat are fat, protein, and water. Water is acetone soluble. Based on this information, the calculations correctly calculate what quantity, % fat or % fat–free meat? Is the incorrectly calculated quantity over or underestimated? The percentage of fat–free meat is calculated correctly. However, the percentage of fat was calculated incorrectly because water is acetone–soluble thus water was also extracted along with the fat. As a result, the percentage of fat in the meat was overestimated. 2. This experiment separates the fat from the protein by dissolving the fat in acetone. What advantage does using the Wiley extractor have over simply pouring acetone over the meat again and again? The first advantage of using the Wiley extractor is that it is automatic, thus allowing me to do other things as the fat is automatically extracted. The second advantage is the acetone is self contained and recycled within the wiley extracted; this meant that only one batch of acetone would be used instead of multiple batches of acetone by simply pouring it over the meat again and ... • 9. Leading Causes Of Food : The Overconsumption Of Meat We are eating ourselves to death. The overconsumption of meat is proving to be detrimental to consumer health, the environment, and society. Preventable diseases are on the rise and resources are being wasted. The rate at which we are currently consuming meat is unsustainable and we are paying for it. Meat, especially processed meat, has proven to be unhealthy for humans. Any health benefits provided are promptly negated by the costs. According to the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Center, in 2014, seven of the ten leading causes of fatality in the United States were preventable chronic diseases. Heart disease and cancer comprise forty–six percent of all deaths and a over a third of American's are considered obese (U.S Department 1). Meat has long been associated with multiple cancers, type two diabetes, obesity, infertility, cardiovascular disease, and diverticulitis (Harvard 8, Mari–Sanchis 1). The consumption of protein derived from meat is detrimental on a cellular level. Protein from red meat specifically is enriched with a sialic acid known as N–glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc). When Neu5Gc is introduced to the tissues within the body, it serves as an antigen. If a body contains antibodies against this antigen, then it elicits an immune response against Neu5Gc. The result is systemic inflammation and an increased risk of carcinoma ("Red Meat" 1). Americans eat an average of seventy–one pounds of red meat annually (Barclay 2). Conversely, 40,710 ... • 11. Persuasive Essay On Animal Farms Each day, millions of Americans flock to grocery stores, picking out the food they plan to eat, often placing a beef product in their shopping cart. Most people set it down in their shopping cart and keep going along their day, not even thinking about how the animal it came from lived its life, was killed, and how the meat was packed. However, there are many people who oppose the meat industry's execution of these processes, regardless of it being very efficient and inexpensive. There have been many inside investigations attempting to expose the meat industry, making it known to the public how poorly these animals, predominantly cows, are treated, in order to make a new law that would change the methods used. These exploitations have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cattle, when down, are branded as unfit for humans to eat by the federal government. These cows are "three times likelier to harbor a potentially deadly strain of E. coli, and at higher risk of carrying salmonella bacteria and transmitting bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or mad cow disease, as it is quaintly known" (Solotaroff). However, we haven't any right to say something like this, as it happens all the time right under our noses, specifically on our dinner plates. From Chickens, Ducks, and Geese to Cows, Pigs, and Sheep They all suffer from abuse every day. It is sickening to know that the food I eat has come from an animal who was not grown with care and had been fed a diet that does not register within its normal eating habits. It is disturbing to see animals being raised to be so heavy that they cannot support their own bodies and collapse under their own weight. "Once unloaded, the animals are shot in the head with an electric bolt gun in order to stun them. They are sent to their deaths, while still alive. One cannot imagine a fate crueler than being dismembered and skinned alive. The article says that some cow will try to escape. "There are many stories of cows making extraordinary dashes for freedom on their way to the abattoir, by jumping from moving trucks, leaping fences and swimming across rivers – because animals value their lives just as we do" ("Animals Are Not Ours to Eat") Chickens are another animal that have been tormented by the food industry. Imagine living in a dark and dusty room full of about 100 people. No bathroom, hardly any room to move, with people dying from illnesses caused by the little room everyone has ("Animals Are Not Ours to Eat"). Fast Food Scandal Analysis Essay Fast Food Scandal Analysis Article Number 1 Title: "There May Be a Little Poop in Your Starbucks Iced Coffee" Author: Clint Rainy Date of Article: March 1, 2017 Summary of Topic: What are faecal coliforms? These are microscopic bacteria which originate from human waste. In other words, the intestines of warm–blooded animals. Such bacteria often pollute water sources however in the case of the following article, faecal coliforms were found in the ice of the Starbucks food franchise. The issue with faecal coliforms is that their presence in water indicates the presence of other more dangerous bacteria, it is this more dangerous bacteria that causes water–borne diseases such as cholera or typhoid which is deadly. (Rainy, 2017) Article Analysis: The scandal affecting Starbucks in this particular article directly links to the business topic of marketing and more specifically, the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) no.68 of 2008. Traces of faecal bacteria do not belong in beverages. What this scandal says about the Starbucks franchise is that it is negligent, unsanitary and ultimately does not care for the well–being of its consumers. According to the CPA, which is a legal document that protects the rights of consumers, "Consumers have the right to fair value, good quality and safety of goods and services". Unfortunately, the scandal in the article is an infringement of those rights because the iced coffee at Starbucks was of poor quality and had the potential to make customers very sick. The following is not mentioned in the article; however, I think that after such an infringement, that particular Starbucks franchise will most probably be under close surveillance and have spontaneous checks from the food industry regulators from the UK. This will negativity affect staff as they will always be feeling on edge. In addition to that, Starbucks will have to also make an effort and spend money in terms of minimizing the effects of the negative publicity it gained. Not only was the brand exposed, but it was exposed of national television in the UK. Such exposure will reduce consumer confidence because the buyers behaviour has been negatively influenced

We have relied on meat in one way or another virtually since the dawn of time. Humans as a whole have become almost dependent on the constant and readily available supply of meat, in some way or another. Yet, what our over consumption of animal meat has done to the meat market is unacceptable, to say the least. Industrialized meat has left such a stain on the environment, human health, and the overall well– being of the animals we consume. In the article, "Tenderloin's a Steal, But At What Moral Price?" by John Kessler, the question of whether or not to buy the industrially raised tenderloin or spend a few extra bucks on the sustainably raised tenderloin comes up. To lessen the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Focusing on cattle (since Tenderloin comes from a cow), most industrial cattle farms are called 'C.A.F.O's (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations). Basically, they are unhealthy 'farms' where cattle are cramped into unsanitary, small, unnatural spaces. To put it lightly, the industrial farming of cattle is incredibly harmful to the animal's health. In the book "The Omnivores Dilemma" by Michael Pollan, he talks about how "... 534's eyes look a little bloodshot. Dr. Metzin had told me that some animals are irritated by the feedlot dust. The problem gets especially serious in the summer time..." (Pollan 80). Not only would buying sustainably raised meat help the environment and the animal itself, it would help human health as well. Because of the corn diet industrial cattle are fed, the meat is much more fattening. Butchers like to use the term "marbled", but in reality, that just means there is more fat lined throughout the cut of meat. With all that fat, humans are more susceptible to getting heart disease, among other fatal diseases. Aside from the fat content of the meat, the problem of hormones comes up. While it isn't as big a deal, seeing as almost everything we eat has some form of hormones in it, there still is a threat. Hamblin says that while we don't have to worry about the excess of hormones in our meat, it's important to note that "80 percent of antibiotics are being used in animals, ... Dairy Cows Rumination Time Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease, diet composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other health statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). Studies conducted by Soriani, Panella, & Calamari (2013), uncovered differences in the rumination times of healthy and sick cows. It was identified that lower ruminations times show signs of heath disorders. Identifying such patterns in dairy cows will enable an early detection of diseases and in some cases will save the cow/s from death. Rumination Time data can be also used to assess relationships to the incidence of clinical symptoms of diseases and metabolic–inflammatory indices in the blood (Soriani, Panella, & Calamari, 2013). Coffee is brewed using a handful of grounds to one cup of water. You would grind your own beans using a hand grinder. Whole unroasted (green) beans would be the best way for Preppers to store large amounts of coffee. This coffee was often called six–shooter coffee. Put the grounds in the water and boil. You can add eggs shells to help settle the grounds, and in some cases, a cup of cold water added just before pouring will help settle the grounds as well. A dash of salt will help with bitterness. Green coffee beans can be roasted in a skillet. You simply roast until brown, but it requires patience and you cannot walk away to gather firewood while the beans roast. There are several stages to the roasting process and you can ruin the beans if you let them roast too long. The beans will turn yellow, and then crack to emit steam in the first stage, and once the beans turn brown you can stop if you want or continue on to create a darker roast. Essay on The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, Jr. At the beginnings of the 1900s, some leading magazines in the U.S have already started to exhibit choking reports about unjust monopolistic practices, rampant political corruption, and many other offenses; which helped their sales to soar. In this context, in 1904, The Appeal to Reason, a leading socialist weekly, offered Sinclair $500 to prepare an exposé on the meatpacking industry (Cherny). To accomplish his mission, Sinclair headed to Chicago, the center of the meatpacking industry, and started an investigation as he declared" I spent seven weeks in Packingtown studying conditions there, and I verified every smallest detail, so that as a picture of social conditions the book is as exact as a government report" (Sinclair, The ... At the core of the story, Sinclair tells about the devastation and the falling apart of Jurgis's family as a result of the ruthless, abusive, and oppressive nature of work and life in Packingtown. By the end, Jurgis wanders alone, deprived of all dignity. He comes across a rally of political socialists, hears a speech on socialism, and enthusiastically converts to that cause. In the last chapters of the novel, Sinclair manifests arguments for socialism, in the form of speeches that Jurgis hears. The book ends with an appeal of a socialist speaker to "Organize! Organize! Organize!" so that "Chicago will be ours! Chicago will be ours! CHICAGO WILL BE OURS!" (Sinclair 372–73) So, according to some critics, it becomes clear that The Jungle is a propaganda destined to promote socialism over capitalism, and to reveal the hollowness of the American Dream, which capitalists define it as being the ability for people to improve their lot and to attain their aspiration for better lives through hard work. Throughout The Jungle, Sinclair portrays the American Dream from a socialist vision, and illustrates it as being a mere fictitious fantasy by the capitalists in order to keep the working class blind to the truth and under their everlasting hegemony. • 66. The Hardest Pieces Of Meat One of the hardest pieces of meat to cook is the Tri–tip steak roast, because most are three pounds and many tend to burn the outside of the meat while the middle is stone cold raw. I like my meat cooked to a nice medium temperature, I feel the best way to cook a Tri–tip steak is on an outdoor briquette barbeque, anything other than this is just not doing this piece of meat any justice. Let 's start with the grocery store, to have the best meat that will melt in your mouth, always start with a nice piece of raw beef. Meat is graded on a scale according to marbling effects. Nice Restaurants only used USDA Prime. You and I can 't buy Prime meat in the grocery store. The USDA grades meat, and Prime is young, well–fed cattle and has an abundant marbling. Most grocery stores can carry USDA Choice meat, and this is my recommendation of what to buy; it is less marbling but is still very tender and juicy. You have to be careful, some stores don 't carry this and try to sell the lowest grade which is USDA Select. Select is fairly less tender, less marbling , less on flavor and juiciness. Stay away from USDA Select. Vons carries a nice USDA Choice meat, so I recommend it. Seasoning the meat is a crucial element of this process. I like to bring my roast out of the refrigerator and season it, letting it sit on the counter so it comes to room temperature, while my briquettes are getting ready on the barbeque. Allowing the meat come fully up to temperature will help the meat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Cattle Farming Safe For All Humanity As we know there are differences between locally grown, organic, and grass–fed beef, however, farmer working conditions are not so different. Grass–fed farms feed their cattle the closest they can to a natural diet of year–round pasture grazing and substitutes such as; alfalfa and hay in the offseason. On organic farms, workers strive to follow the USDA guidelines and prepare for yearly inspections. Local, also known as, independent farmers may choose to raise their cattle organically, by natural grass feeding or mixed. These farms raise large herds but not nearly as large as conventional factory farms. On Organic farms, long hours and hard work are spent ensuring the land is certified organic, the cattle are served only organic feed, and that the cattle graze every day, all year. On organic farms, there is no use of hormones, antibiotics or other hazardous contributions. Deeming these methods of cattle farming safe for all humanity. Independent farmers withstand long hours and strenuous tasks to ensure cattle are raised humanely and the environment is, for the most part, unharmed. It is very common for these farms to be family owned and employed. Proper handling and safety methods become almost second nature for family members. During the hiring process, background knowledge of raising cattle and use of farm equipment are key. There is much work involved maintaining a wide variety of heavy equipment including tractors, windmills, and fences. Many of these farms grow their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Feasibility Of A Small Scale Natural Grass Fed Cattle Ranch Summary The final chapter summarizes the research problem, data collection methodology, and the analysis of the data supporting this feasibility study. The research conclusions will provide awareness of the feasibility supporting the final recommendations concerning a small–scale natural grass–fed cattle ranch in North Platte, Nebraska. The purpose of this research is to determine the feasibility of starting a small–scale cattle ranch, focused on raising natural grass–fed cattle in North Platte, Nebraska. The research examines operating costs associated with small–scale natural grass– fed cattle operations to determine the profitability and sustainability of a small–scale natural grass– fed cattle ranch. Chapter 1 defined the research problem, the purpose of the study, provided definitions, assumptions and limitations to the study, and presented four research questions for this feasibility study: 1. What are the operating costs associated with raising natural grass–fed cattle? 2. Can the North Platte area sustain a natural grass–fed cattle ranch? 3. Will direct or on–line sales produce more revenue? 4. Will the cattle ranch be profitable within five years? Chapter 2 reviewed literature gathered by the researcher to conduct the feasibility study. This literature examines 10 aspects of establishing and operating a natural grass–fed cattle ranch. Scholarly research indicated that cattle breed, land management, and disease control are the three most ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Mad Cow Disease Essay Mad Cow Disease Bovine spongiform encephalophathy ( BSE), which is mainly known as mad cow disease has infected the society and has put the lives of individuals at risk. This was very frightening to the people that ate meat during that time. The terrified people would not even want to eat hamburgers at MacDonald, steak at restaurant and much more. What also alarmed the people was the fact that there was a possibility of getting the human form of mad cow disease. This was called variant Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (vCJD) which is through tainted blood, but this was only a theory which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Canada also exported most of its meat to the United States, and at that time it was the world's largest beef importing country. The US also had a case of mad cow disease on December 23, 2003. This horrible disease is a chronic, degenerative disorder that affects the central nervous system of cattle. The infected cow was from a farm in Washington. After killing the cattle, it was sold out with out the owner's knowledge that the cow was infected with the deadly disease. Right when the US department of agriculture (USDA) found out, they launched an emergency investigation that involved the United States and Canada. Canada and the States had a goal which was to find out where this disease started and to stop it before it was too late. Some people say that all slaughtered cows should be tested, but the problem is that many of these cows are very young and the disease will not show up in the cows until they have reached 30 months of age. DeHaven also said that "This is a disease with a very long incubation period– typically three to eight years." He also states that" To suggest that we would test all animals regardless of age at slaughter is not consistent with the science and what we know about the disease." A professor at the University of Maryland says that the disease will replicate in some tissue parts of the body during incubation periods, and only after three years it ... • 74. Beef Steers Research Paper Research Summary An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of feeding frequency on performance of grazing beef steers. Thirty–two head of crossbred beef steers were weaned and shipped from the Brown Loam Experiment Station in Raymond, MS to the White Sand Unit outside of Poplarville, MS. Cattle were weighed and re–vaccinated upon arrival, and then allowed a week for acclimation to individual feeding tubs. The steers were then stratified by body weight into three treatment groups of eight head. The treatment groups consisted of: control, no supplemental feed; weekly, supplemental feed fed once a week; and daily, supplemental feed fed daily. Initial body weight was recorded, after which, each treatment group was maintained across three pastures with ad libitum access to mineral. Feed and pasture samples were taken during the study to determine nutritive value. Treatment group 1X was fed once a week anywhere from 6–9 lbs. of feed depending on stratified body weight, and were allotted 45 minutes to one hour to finish. Treatment group 7X was fed anywhere from 0.9–1.5 lbs. of feed depending on stratified body weight, and were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... No differences were seen in performance of steers across all treatments. Final BW shows that in each treatment the steers gained on average 15 kg over the 28–day process. As noted on Table 3, DMI was greater for steers fed once a day than for steers fed once a week, and in the control group. However, the results show that ADG for the control was greater overall. Therefore performance was improved no matter what type of supplemental intake. Results of cost take into account cost of feed, labor, and a pasture acre fee. Therefore, it is cheaper overall to supplement cattle on pasture rather than feeding weekly or once a day. Several possibilities as to why performance was not affected may include environmental factors (heat), forage quality, and rate that steers were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nick Mancini made a very successful business out of knowing what his customers specifically wanted. Mancini's has always offered choice grade steaks at competitive prices. An eight ounce sirloin steak dinner is $21.95 (includes a side) at Mancini's. Some other popular steak houses throughout St. Paul today are Kincaid's they offers a petite filet mignon for $39.95. • 78. Animal Consumption and Waste Food is very important. No matter who or what you are, we all need to eat food. It is not just a thing to fill people up to survive throughout the day; it has more than one important uses. Animals, pricing, and waste are some of the factors that come from food. Animals are big part of the food industry. Just like plants, there are different types like cows, chicken, and lamb. Although there is variety and growing populations, humans are increasing in population too. These creatures or, our "main meat" are constantly being slaughtered. They are becoming more of a produce than an innocent living animal. If this keeps up we will not realize the decrease in meat in our market fast enough in order to help preserve these poor animals because we eat them too frequently. There are people who decide to not eat called vegetarians but they have different types like some eat fish and some do not eat eggs. They are helping with sticking to eat more vegetables and becoming animals friendly to our "main meat". If we all could help everyone out by eating less meat and especially less greasy and fattening fast food, cows and the others can be though of a respectable farm animal and not just moving beef. Many things are expensive now days because prices skyrocketed! The cheapest thing that I can think of are: little coin toy and candy machines. Just one cheap toy or candy will cost twenty–five cents! Food has also increased in price. It is understandable that stores and restaurants are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
