1. WCE Project Options for Jamaica
Services that WCE can provide in Jamaica:
1. Provide online leadership and capacity building services to strengthen participating groups in
Jamaica including: planning, fund raising, public relations & partnership development
2. Refurbish & import more computers & other technology for schools in Jamaica to connect
youth to the opportunities, skills & understanding of the internet - we can include nComputing,
generators, solar technologies, eLife work and life skills for young women & Maternova
obstetric technologies for midwives as funded
3. Pre-load computers with operating systems, office suites and tailored content in English
about education, technology, agriculture, health, programming & web development,
entrepreneurship, leadership, computer recycling, potable water, and solar energy
4. Exchanges between classes of students in schools in Jamaica with some classes of students
in schools in the States and Canada for virtual exchanges using webcams
5. Provide multi-day online and onsite iEARN teacher training on the use of the Internet to
improve learning via experiential, inter-active, multi-country projects and then recruit them to
become members of iEARN- Jamaica
6. Send additional volunteer WCE eCorps tech professionals for 2-week visit to work with local
teams in participating schools to provide troubleshooting, WCE content installation, teacher
training, appropriate computer recycling, evaluation, stories, stakeholder and donor meetings,
and tailored training – we plan to coordinate this with Peace Corps Volunteers in Jamaica
7. Pilot learning centers for students to take online business and computer science courses
through the tuition-free University of the People – this may include student recruitment &
support services
8. Specialized projects including entrepreneurship and projects that focus on girls.
9. Provide consulting assistance in collaborating with computer refurbishing and/or recycling
centers in Jamaica like in this sample: www.Reciclemos.net
10. Assist in developing a university exchange of faculty, students, curriculum and materials
between a university in Jamaica and one in the States or Canada
11. Assist in raising matching Sponsor funds from companies, foundations and Rotary Clubs with
interests in Jamaica including helping Sponsors secure press visibility for their donations
12. Provide installation and training for the eGranary Digital Library, the “Internet in a Box” that
contains over 14-million educational resources for off-line use
13. Provide youth with BluMail e-mail accounts & with links to the rich opportunities for activism,
jobs, volunteering, mentoring, information, networking & story sharing of BluWorld
