From the author on the road to the cartographer behind a desk, we are united by a love of travel. In
fact, a passion for travel is a prerequisite for working at Lonely Planet – it says so on every job
description. Between us we've been to 191 countries. Tony Wheeler leads the contest, having
visited144 countries.
Our head office is in Melbourne, Australia. People work hard in a restored cotton warehouse in the
docklands. In Oakland we also work on the dock of the bay, watching cargo being sent off all over
the world. By contrast, our London office is situated next to Sadlers' Wells Theatre in Clerkenwell
and, of course, the obligatory pub or two. Both the Melbourne and Oakland offices have Lonely
Planet bands that perform at our office parties, sometimes featuring up to 30 band members onstage
at once. That's bigger than UB40!Our longest serving employee, Andy, has been with the company
for nearly 30 years. She was also the very first employee, hired by Tony and Maureen to watch the
office while they researched the earlier guidebooks. Because they appreciated Andy ʻminding shopʼ,
they brought her back a snow dome. This began a collection that continues to grow today,
overflowing several display cabinets in the Lonely Planet cafe.

Paraphrasing is using another person's material or information but rewritten in your words.
Digest the information and then rephrase it completely in your own words. Do not reuse two or
more of the original author's words. Include the author's name and year of publication directly
before or after the paraphrased information. If after, the author and year of publication are placed in
parenthesis. Example In–text citation using a paraphrase (when the authors are not mentioned in the
text):
Although some experts believe people have trouble remembering traumatic events, other experts
point out that victims or witnesses of those events would more likely have trouble forgetting the
trauma (Carpenter & Huffman, 2008).
Summarizing is similar to that of paraphrasing, but it reviews an entire article or source rather than a
smaller section of the source. Summarizing is reviewing a source in your words.

My Experience At My First Started At Trine
When i first started at Trine, I felt strongly that learning was important to my growth and
development but I have never acted on this feeling ; but, I felt that i would finally change from when
I was in middle and high school when I entered college. I feel that i can learn basically anything,
and that limitations on my learning that set on myself would be gone. If I open myself up to learning
and give myself to my studies, I know I could fuel my potential to its fullest. I know that learning
increases my options and gives me the means to respond to the multitude of opportunities in the
engineering career. My perspective when i first started was that i was going to change from the past;
studying, taking note, participation in class, I planned to do all of that and I wanted to do all of these
so i could improve in academia. In observing my first few weeks of entering my classes it shows
that i had been showing changing from my past, I took notes in almost everyone of my classes, i was
engaged in the classroom activities, and I paid close attention to anything the university professors'
said. One can never tell when it will be necessary to suddenly shift gears and proceed in a new
direction, but I was making progress that not only i could tell but my peers and more importantly my
family. I did want to pursue a major course of engineering, and the studies that usually associate
with it came easy to me from math to working with designing programs but i didn't excel in because

* Research Paper 1: The first paper is due by Monday, April 9, 11:59 p.m. You MAY use sources
outside of the Liberty Search Engine (and are encouraged to do so). Also you may use scholarly
books and not just journal articles. You should avoid using generic websites that do not appear
scholarly in nature. A good rule of thumb is that if a website does not have an author, it is not a good
source. Good online material has also usually been published in print at some point. Google Scholar
and JSTOR are great places to search, as well as the online encyclopedias I've shown you. Always

Kate Turabian's citation style (see her book, A Manual for Writers) is made up of in– text numbers
which correspond to a number at the bottom of the page (footnotes). The required bibliographic
information about the work you are quoting and/or taking ideas from is written next to the footnote
number at the bottom of the page. Then, at the very end of the paper, the bibliography page
summarizes all of the bibliographic information used throughout the entire paper. Turabian is the
standard citation style for religion and history courses at most American colleges, including LUO.
LUO has provided a very helpful Turabian guide, including the proper way to record various types

Stone's Annotated Bibliography : The Da Vinci Code
Stone's Annotated Bibliography
Brown, Dan. The Da Vinci Code. Corgi Books, 2016. My family bought me this book while I was
visiting them in China. China was always filled with smog as if it was God's break room. Every
building tall enough as if to reach out to the dark skies and gloomy atmosphere. Natively spread out
across the city of Beijing lived most of my family excluding me, my parents, and step–siblings. I'd
visit them as the last male heir to the Sha name and they adored me. I had a cousin that was my age
who lived there named Sydney. They did not adore her as much, even though she was more Chinese
in my eyes. My grandpa passed away on white sheets in a dull room, plugged into machines
designed to either delay death's visit, or make it less painful. On account of my parents, my grandpa
would hold me in his arms as I looked up into his toothless smile. But I remember my grandma
through my warmth filled memories of her. Rooms brimmed with steam containing the scent of my
grandmother's Chinese cooking,.The kitchen and dining area, filled with stories of the past in a time
much different and chaotic than mine. She passed away as well. On the day of her funeral, tears
streamed down every face except mine, and the atmosphere turned gloomier. To this day I have
never cried for her.

clothing. He also remarks on use the clothing as much one can; therefore we understand that is
better to invest in something lasting rather than the trendy item. Gesell, suggests that the fact of
inheriting clothes is a good thing, except of course underwear. When selecting fibres he points out
that we must use only natural fibres, which suggests to the reader that the fact of choosing those
specific fibres added to the fact of inheriting clothes will help to create a timeless look. Gesell is not
constant with the advices given which suggests that the reader should already have a sense of style
and most important, common sense when dressing. He also remarks that wearing overly trendy
pieces will make the overall look and intention the opposite as intended.
In conclusion, this guide is after all guidance for all those men who enjoy dressing up and have a
keen interest in men's fashions. The topics being discussed in this piece have more to see with the
perceptions that others have towards clothing. This guide is not to be followed word by word, as

quantitative to assess team performance and satisfaction. Sixteen students from diverse scientific

Analysis Of The Book ' Wicc A Guide For The Solitary...
Wicca The book I chose was "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham. I
decided on this book because I felt I knew the least about pagan religions. Wicca in particular,
seemed as though it would be an interesting choice to study. The book covers nearly every aspect of
the Wiccan religion. I learned a bit of their history, and a great deal of their common beliefs and
practices. Pagan religions by design are often centered around nature, and Wicca is no exception.
However, unlike many other religions it neglects to seek out new members and is at risk of
becoming nothing more than another relic in today's world. Modern Wicca has fighting a to
resistance to irrelevancy and has been subject to much change since its roots originating thousands
of years ago.
Though modern Wicca is often viewed as a new age religion, very similar practices can be traced
back to the paleolithic age in the form of shamanism. Like Wiccans, "the shamans were the power
wielders, male and female. They wrought magic and spoke to the spirits of nature" (Cunningham 3).
However, in contrast to shamanism, Wiccans have shied away from "the ordeals of pain and the use
of hallucinogens in favor of chanting, meditation, invocation, and ritual"(4). The religion was also
drawn from the later concentrations of paganism in Northern Europe. Wiccans were viewed to be
the heirs of the pre–christian era folk religions in England and Ireland. Modern day Wiccans,
however, do not accredit their

The Spirit Of Spirit Animal
The spirit animal that you identify with is more than a symbol. Shamans believe that spirit animals
are guides and protectors during your life 's journey. Finding and relating to your spirit animal
provides you with power and insight into your subconscious that can help to guide you on the path
that 's right for you. Identifying your spirit animal then understanding how they guide you is
essential for finding your path.
How Does Your Spirit Animal Help You
While you might have animals that you love and admire, that doesn 't mean that type of animal is
your spirit animal. Your specific power animal isn 't just the answer to an interview question about
what type of animal you see yourself as. Your spirit animal helps you identify parts of yourself that
need to be enhanced or worked on for ultimate happiness and fulfillment.
Why You 're Searching for Your Spirit Animal
Your spirit animal can help you nurture or evaluate your current relationships to find new
perspectives and enlightenment. It will help you by providing guidance and support when you 're
going through a trying time in your life too. Your spirit animal guides you through situations that
provide strong emotions that can leave you confused and disheartened. You might even feel inspired
and powerful through your spirit animal 's influence.

Reflection On English 111
Final Reflection Essay In English 111, I have struggled with many assignments over the course of
the semester, correcting myself over time from countless mistakes on papers to procrastinating on
basic class work assignments. Before fall semester, I had no idea what college would be like or how
hard it could be. College classes were not the same as high school; it was different to a point where
college seemed a lot harder than it was supposed to be. In English 111, I got the chance to meet new
students and different professors that have helped guide me to success throughout the semester.
Participation in class has been no problem for me over the semester. I have only missed one day for
English 111, and as for my other classes, I have only missed certain credit hour days due to reasons I
could not help. I try to come to class prepared with my Little Seagull Handbook and They Say I Say

need to be done. Peer review is how I use my group assignment time in English 111, which has

Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy Movie And Book Comparison...
There is a cliché that the book is better than the movie. There has never been a case where that is
more apparent than the book written by Douglas Adams in 1978 to the 2005 movie rendition of The
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy directed by Garth Jennings. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
is an english science fiction comedy novel that follows Arthur Dent through his misadventures in the

The story is satirical guide book to help you navigate and hitchhike throughout the galaxy. The first

second comparison will be the plot events. Lastly is the comparison and contrast of the resolution.

What Is The Best Writing Format?
Nate Davis Mrs. Pond English 11 24 February 2016 What is the best writing format? It might seem
like a boring topic, but it is for a grade so here goes. We use writing formats if we write anything.
Some are formal, others are far more common. I prefer formal, Which do you think is the best?
There are over 500 writing formats, and although some believe that the most common ones are the
best, the best are MLA, the 2nd is APA, and the 3rd is CMS, etc... My favorite is MLA is the
Modern Language Association and the rules are: to type your paper on a computer and print it out on

recommends that the regular and italics type styles contrast enough that they are recognizable one
from another. The font size should be 12 pt and Leave only one space after periods or other
punctuation marks. Set the margins of your document to one inch on all sides and Indent the first
line of paragraphs one half–inch from the left margin. MLA recommends that you use the Tab key as

Toward A Recovery Of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks
While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who
published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals,
newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were
studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in
which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors
discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about
another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to
bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural
handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history. To achieve this
goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub–sections. In the first
section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century agricultural history:
population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new knowledge, and farming's
influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth century farming handbooks
in connection with the important events described in the first section. I end my paper with a third
section that offers research questions that could be answered in

Writing Style Essays
Writing Style
What is writing style? I started out thinking that writing style is a personal thing and that all writers
have their own style. But, this way of thinking is really just a simple way to answer the question.
After more careful thought, I realized that style is actually quite the opposite of personal and
original. Style is a form of standardization. As writers, we all follow certain rules and guidelines to
make our point. Style is these rules and guidelines.
For a writer to better understand style, multitudes of books and helpful guides have been published.
Many are written as lists of rules about word choice, constructions to avoid, common stylistic traps,
and other such things. One of these is The Elements of Style by ... Show more content on

I believe this to be a common mistake. Strunk and White refer to this usage as the "serial" comma.
The only time they believe it is acceptable to not follow this rule is in the case of a business or a
firm containing three or more names. Often the second comma will be omitted.
Another very important rule dealing with commas is rule number 4, "place a comma before a
conjunction introducing an independent clause" (Strunk and White, 5). This rule not only points out
the proper place to put a comma, but also the fact that there are two part sentences. Some writers
tend to put a period where a comma should be placed, maybe because they are uncomfortable with
where to put the comma. An example of proper comma usage in this case would be
"The early records of the city have disappeared, and the story of its first years can no longer be
reconstructed" (Strunk and White, 5).
Relatinging back to breaking a two–part sentence into two sentences is rule number six. One should
be careful to not place a period where a comma should be.
"I met them on a Cunard Liner many years ago. Coming home from Liverpool to New York"
(Strunk and White, 7).
In this example, the first period should really be a comma.
An additional and significant rule to writing is the usage of the "he/she" pronoun. This is mentioned
in both books, yet the proper usages described differ from one another. In the original copy by
Strunk he feels that "he" is the only correct pronoun.

Short Summary : The Story Of Jimmy Carterer
The story of Jimmy Carter is a story of a little boy who goes blind at the age of eleven. Jimmy lived
a very normal life. He enjoyed playing baseball with his friends, and hiking with his scout troop.
One day, when Jimmy and his friends were playing baseball out at the old sandlot, they find a
firecracker where a firework stand had been set up previously. One of the boys, Mike, decides to
light the firecracker and it gets thrown at Jimmy's face.
Jimmy is immediately sent to the hospital where his face is bandaged and his eyes are covered.
However, when the bandages were removed, Jimmy saw nothing but darkness. In fact, everything
seemed so dark that he asked the doctor to keep un–wrapping because he must not have uncovered
Jimmy's whole face. Jimmy resented Mike for a long time for throwing the firecracker near his face.
Jimmy begins learning how to function without his eyesight. He struggles to get dressed in the
morning and he is hesitant to walk around for fear of what he may run into. Soon, Jimmy learns how
to function with a white cane by holding it out to the ground in front of him and moving it back and
forth as not to run into anything. He learns how to feel his way through familiar, indoor,
environment by holding one arm close to his chest for protection, and one arm straight out so that he
didn't run into anything. Jimmy, also, learns to read braille, as he begins to learn a new way of
functioning. His friends and his sister also learned to read Braille.

Helen Keller : Being Blind And Deaf
People take their abilities and lifestyle for granted every day because they have not experienced
having very little and being limited in their everyday lives. Many do not know what it is like to lose
something or have so little so they do not appreciate the small gifts and opportunities in life that can
easily be taken away. "The things we take for granted, someone else is praying for." This quote is
explains how the food fortunate people eat every day, the clothes bought regularly, and cars people
ride in each day, other people yearn for. Helen Keller was not only blind, but also deaf and for a
good part of her life, she did not have the luxury of seeing or hearing which is taken for granted.
Sometimes many people lose their sight or hearing and after, they realize how grateful they were for
having that sense at the time and appreciate their senses more. As a child, Helen struggled to adapt
to be being blind and deaf. Due to her handicap, Helen did not have as many of the opportunities in
life that the majority of people do. Living a life of both blindness and deafness is a huge challenge,
but Helen Keller is proof that people can overcome the challenges of being blind and deaf and still
go on with life accomplishing goals. By learning the Tadoma Method to communicate with other
people,by touching lips to feel the vibrations of the speaker, and spelling words in the palm of her
hand, Helen has proven that anything is possible. Later in life, she became the first blind and

Strunk and White’s Elements of Style Essay
Strunk and White's "Elements of Style"
A typical science fiction fan can be more familiar about Star Trek and it's characters than some of
their own family members. For those that are not all that familiar with this "Sci Fi" show, Star Trek
remains as a very well known icon in television history. The crew of the Starship Enterprise traveled
to mysterious planets, through mysterious galaxies. I wonder if this journey couldn't be compared to
the journey of style for the writer.
In Strunk and White's "Elements of Style" they state, "Who knows why certain notes in music are
capable of stirring the listener deeply, though the same notes slightly rearranged are impotent? These
are high mysteries...There is no satisfactory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The laws of gravity operate differently in space then those very same laws operate on earth. For
example, in space, gravity is suspended and things tend to be far more weightless, and floating
about. If you were aiming for an object to land at a certain destination, it would most likely never
make it there without some type of guidance system to manipulate and use the laws of gravity. On
earth, the law of gravity pulls objects down from great heights to great depths in a matter of minutes
or seconds. Depending on the purpose and where you are, it takes an awareness of the laws like
gravity to use that law correctly and fulfill your purpose in space or on earth.
Likewise, style is a law of writing as gravity is a law. Like the law of gravity, we have to be aware of
the laws of style. Gravity exists whether we like it or not. Style also exists whether we want it to or
not. If you ignore the laws of gravity, you will either crash to your death, or be left floating in space.
With style, a writer will either carry the reader to the intended destination, or leave the reader
floating like a man lost in space, without any understanding on what your point was.
I have established a concept of style as a law of writing. This doesn't take away the fact that it is a
complex law. The very word "style" eludes people like the mysteries of deep space. People chase
after different types of styles, pay for the "coolest" style, or even resent

Writing Style Essay
Writing Style
I hear inner Strunk and White voices of "don't overwrite", "write in a way that comes naturally," and
so forth, going through my head. I have visions of endless Williams examples and illustrations on
clarity. I see weeks of blog writings flashing through my memory. From all of this, I now own and
believe in a firm and personal definition of what style is and what good writing entails. William
Strunk and E.B. White's book The Elements of Style, along with Joseph M. Williams's book Style
Toward Clarity and Grace helped lead me to this point, which is: what is the point?
What really matters when we consider the style of writing? What makes good writing good? Every

There must be guidelines. Strunk and White and Williams share those thoughts with their readers,
and while I do not agree with all of their rules, as a writer, I believe within these style books I have
found guidelines in which writers can fulfill their purpose. As a reader, I feel that if writers follow
some of the guidelines Strunk and White and Williams have to offer to the world, I can come away
from a piece of writing affected.
The next question would be: how is a reader affected? Well, a reader cannot be affected unless a
piece of writing is presented clearly. A piece of writing must be written in a way that any person can
pick it up, read it, and not only understand the point the author is trying to convey through her/his
writing, but be able to follow the flow of information. For that to take place, the information must be
presented in a clear manner. I believe this to be an important part of style; without it the style of a
piece of writing can be lost.
One of Strunk and White's principles of composition suggests that writers "express coordinate ideas
in similar form." It goes on to explain that, "...expressions similar in content and function be
outwardly similar. "The likeness of form enables the reader to recognize more readily the likeness of
content and function" (26). By expressing similar ideas in the same or similar form, readers are able
to better understand how the ideas relate to each other

BRRRRINGGGGGG!!! The alarm stopped right away because my hand smacked it quiet. I took a

got out of the twin size bed, and walked a foot over to where our bathroom was. It took more time to
squeeze into the bathroom, but you get used to it. When I came out, I walked out of the room and
knock knock, my parents door opened. "When are we going to eat breakfast?" I questioned to my
mom. "In about 30 minutes, just get ready and we will meet you up there," she stated as she closed
the door in my face. I was still in my pajamas and was putting in my contacts when my aunt walked
in with a cup of coffee in her hand. "It's a hot day out today, I almost burned while I was standing
out there for 15 minutes," my aunt told me. I groaned "Ugh, we will be walking around in the hot
sun for most of the day."
While I was picking out my outfit of jean high waisted shorts and a red tank top with a floral print
on it, I was stumped on what shoes to wear because we will be walking all day. I didn't want to wear
tennis shoes because those weren't cute with my outfit and I knew was taking pictures today. Once

those, won't your feet hurt all day?" she asked puzzled. "No I'm used to wearing flip flops I will be

English 111 Final Reflection
Final Reflection Essay In English 111 I have struggled with many assignments over the course of

The Good Wife's Guide: A Medieval Household Book
When researching the Late Middle Ages, the question of a woman's role in medieval society is
always pondered by many scholars because of the lack of documentation on woman's lives.
However, Gina. L Greco's and Christine M. Rose's translation of, The Good Wife's Guide (Le
Menagier de Paris): A Medieval Household Book, is a French medieval guidebook written in the
14th century by an unknown narrator, that outlines a married woman's role by giving step by step
instructions on how to take care of their household and behave in a proper manner. This book is
fascinating because it offers insight into the ideals of gender in medieval society, which shows how

The domination of the wife by the husband in marriage is most notable in the, Good Wife's Guide,
where the narrator sets strict rules for his wife by telling her how to dress and behave in public. The
narrator's orders of how the wife is to dress and behave shows how married women in the Late
Middle Ages had no agency because they were not free to choose on what they wanted to wear or
how they behave as that is dictated to them by their husbands. The story of Griselda in, The Good
Wife's Guide, also exemplifies the domination of the husband's authority because the narrator uses
Griselda's obedience to her husband to use as an example and show his wife that she must always
obey his authority no matter what the task at hand is. The narrator uses the story of Griselda to
constantly persuade his wife to be obedient to his commands and acts like it's her obligation to do so
because in return she will receive his love and praise for fulfilling his obligations. By analyzing the
story of Griselda in, The Good Wife's Guide, it can be related to a broader aspect in the late middle
ages because it shows how women are supposed to act in marriage whereby the husband acts as a
dictator in the marriage and the women are supposed to be obedient

5 Nutrients Your Body Needs Besides Food If you 're like me and care about your body, you
probably spend a lot of your energy and focus on eating a healthy diet. There are endless diet books
and nutrition guides that are aimed at helping you figure out how to give your body the nourishment
it needs. Yet just as important as food are the other key nutrients your body needs to truly thrive. It
can be easy to overlook these nutrients, but some of them are even more essential to our health than
food! Here are five nutrients besides healthy food that your body needs to be truly "well–fed," along
with some simple tips for how to easily get these five needs met: NUTRIENT ONE: CLEAN AIR –
What is more essential than breathing? We can go weeks without food and days without water, but
not more than a few minutes without air. Fresh air is essential for our wellbeing. Yet most of us
spend all day indoors, breathing recycled air. When we do get outside, much of our air is polluted. It
can be difficult with our busy urban lifestyles to get out into nature, where air is freshest. At best, we
might get a little park action when we take the dog for a walk. At worst, the only time we really
experience fresh air is once a year on vacation! Solution: Nourish yourself with negative ions.
Negative ions are at their max in pure places, like the tops of mountains or the depths of forests.
Thanks to technology, you can do a lot to purify your indoor air by simply getting a negative ionizer

The Insider 's Guide On The Value Of Horror Movies And Books
The Insider's Guide to the Value of Horror Movies and Books "How do you people watch this?!?! "
and "Why do everyone in this room have this intense love for horror movies was two phrases that I
heard one night at my friend's house while we watched Jason killed his 3rd victim on Friday the
13th. "Horror is defined as being a strong aversion mingled with dread" stated by Patrick Johnson in
his paper, "The Importance of Horror". Just like Graff's essay on "Hidden Intellectualism", there is a
hidden value in horror films and books. Horror has played a large part in the human race and it has
existed ever since the 1700s. From the Devil's Castle in 1896 to Ouija: Origin of Evil in 2016,
horror films have been around for a long period time and they are not going to go away no time
soon. Furthermore, Graff states that "nor do we consider one of the major reasons why schools and
colleges overlook the intellectual potential of street smarts" (957). In a like manner, we could say
that people overlook the value of horror films and books. First, finding the value of horror flicks and
books. Second, why do people value horror flicks and books? Last, how do horror films and books
have value. When you analyze horror movies from the past and compare them to the ones, they all
have one common trait, which is that they have some type of value to people. Most people do not
see the value in horror movies and books. People only see the wicked feelings and actions that

Magical Realism In Paule Marshall's Praisesong For The Widow
Paule Marshall's novel Praisesong for the Widow, tells the story of a woman, Avey Johnson, and the
journeys she embarks on to find herself. Throughout the novel Paule uses magical realism as an
attempt to explicate attributes that are not able to be explained in Westernized language. Magical
realism can be defined as a method that depicts the world of people whose reality is different from
the reality that is objective. Praisesong for the Widow posses elements of magical realism; ways
they are portrayed in the text are through characters, setting and symbols.
In the process of magical realism one element is symbols, which can be words, objects, characters or
settings that represents something abstract. One artifact of magical realism present in the text is
water imagery. Throughout the text we see Avey travelling through different stages of submersion
because she is surrounded by water in the novel. According to Paule "perspiration was beginning to
sheet for her forehead despite the air conditioning in the cabin. She didn't stop to wipe it"(10). This
establishes that because Avey knew something was wrong and was in a rush to get off the cruise.
Perspiration was sweating and one example of water imagery and another is the coconut water with
rum.
Another example of water imagery in the text is the coconut water. This is water imagery because
the water represents purification. According to Marshall "Rum and coconut water... nevertheless she

Picture Of The Indian Culture And Society
Picture of the Indian Culture and Society : Malgudi Days R.K Narayan Chapter 1 "Malgudi Days" is
a gathering of short stories composed by R.K.Narayan and likely the most renowned title connected
with R.K.Narayan with the special case of "Swami and Friends." So what is so unique about
R.K.Narayan 's exposition that earned him so much honors? That is only the catch. There is nothing
unique and that is the place the claim to fame lies. The composition is disarmingly basic, the dialect
is not adapted or even colloquial(slang). It is basically English, yet the complete self, the accent and
society is unashamedly Indian. Furthermore, that is the thing that made Narayan acclaimed. That
unmistakable Indian touch in a period when it was stylish for Indian creators to gorilla the West.
Instead of calling them short stories, it would be ideal to call them a gathering of accounts or even
tales. For you won 't discover solid, affectionate, plot–and–activity arranged stories yet simply
customary existences of conventional individuals in all its commonness. Some of them differ a
touch: a percentage of the stories are humorous, some gently fabulous, some sad, some comic,
however a large portion of them mirroring the cross–area of social life in India in Narayan 's period.
This is reflected in the way Narayan once in a while end a story rather unexpectedly without sewing
every one of the pieces together. As it were you may say that these stories have no starting or end.

Analysis Of The Book ' A Hitchhikers Guide On The Galaxy '
The meaning of life is a question that people have been asking for decades. Some believe that the
meaning of life comes from a variety of reasons, such as religion, hope, or simply just living life. In
the book, A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, this famous question is posed, and many wait for
thousands of years in order to find the answer, which turned out to be "42". For some, this may be a
disappointing answer but for others it may be relieving. People have been struggling with this
question for as long as time, and will continue to struggle with this question. However, some find
peace with this question. It depends on how someone looks at life in order to answer this question.
In William James's essay, The Will to Believe, he states that people have the will to either believe
the truth or to not believe the truth. This truth has to be live, forced, and momentous. It has to be
live, meaning that it is something possible for one to believe. It cannot be impossible. It has to be
forced; one cannot avoid making a decision. One is faced with two options and then must decide
between the two of them. It also has to be momentous; it must be a life changing decision that one
makes. It is important enough to change the way one lives' life. James view on religion is that the
best things are eternal, and it is better to live believing these things than not. He calls this the
Religious Hypothesis, and believes that tit is better of to believe these things than not. "The so–

Characterism In Planet Of The Blind By Stephen Kuusisto
Planet of the Blind is brilliantly written by Stephen Kuusisto; he delves into his life story and gives
readers exceptionally realistic descriptions of his experiences. Beginning the memoir, it is clear that
Kuusisto is undergoing an obvious struggle between himself and his blindness. Born with
retinopathy of prematurity, Kuusisto's parents do their best to avoid his impairment. Due to this,
Kuusisto describes himself as developing a sixth sense of giving off the perception that he could see
significantly better than what he actually could. Throughout the memoir, Kuusisto chronologically
tells of significant events during his childhood, teenage years, and adulthood and how he came to
accept his disability and be confident in himself. During the course of these significant events,
Kuusisto uses poetry to convey his emotions while also using the rhetoric of emancipation. At an
early age, Stephen Kuusisto discovered his love of literature. He speaks of two saints in his life, the
first being Mrs. Edinger who taught him how to read. It is evident, in Kuusisto's writing, that
literature was a safe place for him. As the book goes on lines of poetry are written after a story or
thought is stated. It was intriguing to read little bits of poems as though it was exactly what was
going through Kuusisto's mind at that very moment. Personally, it seemed as though Kuusisto
associated all of his feelings and emotions with poetry. Furthermore, the poetry he quotes is not

The authors divide the environment into two distinct parts: remote and immediate.
The remote environment consists of such aspects as: global economics, political factors, social and
demographic features, technology and physical resources.
The immediate environment comprises such areas as: customers and prospects, competitors, the
labor pool, suppliers, creditors and government agencies (7).
To those business managers who are of the opinion that they cannot forecast the future because they
have problems in the present, the authors counter that by being mindful of what the future may hold,
the managers can minimize their problems in the present. This chapter concludes with a discussion
of opportunities and threats. Murdick, Moor and Eckhouse suggest that opportunities, like the
environment itself, can be divided into immediate and long–term for the purpose of analysis.
Immediate opportunities include new applications of existing products, new processes in
manufacturing, and new and improved customer service (8). Threats that pose immediate problems
may also pose extremely fragile environmental situations. Avoiding environmental threats requires
long– term planning and anticipation of potential problems. Environmental threats may include
competitors, changes in customer demand, legislation, inflation, recession and technological
breakthroughs. In addition to opportunities and threats, which help managers attain long–term and

After you have read enough of Strunk & White to feel somewhat confident (or even frustrated) by

examples get in the way of the underlying message. Writing, Williams appears to suggest, is not

1953), Sally (1860–1946) and Eugenia (1862–1932). Later in 1863, Bush's wife died at age 39 with
Tuberculosis and so the children only lived with him after that while later moving forth with their
own lives as adults. However, I have declined to provide a ticket due to this following reason: my
good colleague, Karen Howard and I got lost trying to locate the Bush House Museum. We finally
arrived at 1:20 and graciously waited for the tour guide to come to the door after we rang the bell.
She came out and we explained to her that we lost our way in trying to find the house. We told her
we intended to come for the 1pm tour. Thankfully, we did not have to wait for the 2pm tour and she
took us right in. After, we finished the guided tour, she said we did not even need to come back and

In fact, a passion for travel is a prerequisite for working at Lonely Planet – it says so on every job description. Between us we've been to 191 countries. Tony Wheeler leads the contest, having visited144 countries. Our head office is in Melbourne, Australia. People work hard in a restored cotton warehouse in the docklands. In Oakland we also work on the dock of the bay, watching cargo being sent off all over the world. By contrast, our London office is situated next to Sadlers' Wells Theatre in Clerkenwell and, of course, the obligatory pub or two. Both the Melbourne and Oakland offices have Lonely Planet bands that perform at our office parties, sometimes featuring up to 30 band members onstage at once. That's bigger than UB40!Our longest serving employee, Andy, has been with the company for nearly 30 years. She was also the very first employee, hired by Tony and Maureen to watch the office while they researched the earlier guidebooks. Because they appreciated Andy ʻminding shopʼ, they brought her back a snow dome. This began a collection that continues to grow today, overflowing several display cabinets in the Lonely Planet cafe. – Social–culture Making a difference online Immediately after the 2004 Asian tsunami disaster, Lonely Planet mobilised to do what it could to help locals and travellers in affected areas. ... They have trouble forgetting, not remembering" (p. 192). Paraphrasing is using another person's material or information but rewritten in your words. Digest the information and then rephrase it completely in your own words. Do not reuse two or more of the original author's words. Include the author's name and year of publication directly before or after the paraphrased information. If after, the author and year of publication are placed in parenthesis. Example In–text citation using a paraphrase (when the authors are not mentioned in the text): Although some experts believe people have trouble remembering traumatic events, other experts point out that victims or witnesses of those events would more likely have trouble forgetting the trauma (Carpenter & Huffman, 2008). Summarizing is similar to that of paraphrasing, but it reviews an entire article or source rather than a smaller section of the source. Summarizing is reviewing a source in your words. • 10. My Experience At My First Started At Trine When i first started at Trine, I felt strongly that learning was important to my growth and development but I have never acted on this feeling ; but, I felt that i would finally change from when I was in middle and high school when I entered college. I feel that i can learn basically anything, and that limitations on my learning that set on myself would be gone. If I open myself up to learning and give myself to my studies, I know I could fuel my potential to its fullest. I know that learning increases my options and gives me the means to respond to the multitude of opportunities in the engineering career. My perspective when i first started was that i was going to change from the past; studying, taking note, participation in class, I planned to do all of that and I wanted to do all of these so i could improve in academia. In observing my first few weeks of entering my classes it shows that i had been showing changing from my past, I took notes in almost everyone of my classes, i was engaged in the classroom activities, and I paid close attention to anything the university professors' said. One can never tell when it will be necessary to suddenly shift gears and proceed in a new direction, but I was making progress that not only i could tell but my peers and more importantly my family. I did want to pursue a major course of engineering, and the studies that usually associate with it came easy to me from math to working with designing programs but i didn't excel in because of ... Also you may use scholarly books and not just journal articles. You should avoid using generic websites that do not appear scholarly in nature. A good rule of thumb is that if a website does not have an author, it is not a good source. Good online material has also usually been published in print at some point. Google Scholar and JSTOR are great places to search, as well as the online encyclopedias I've shown you. Always feel free to send me an email if you have questions about sources or formatting. Kate Turabian's citation style (see her book, A Manual for Writers) is made up of in– text numbers which correspond to a number at the bottom of the page (footnotes). The required bibliographic information about the work you are quoting and/or taking ideas from is written next to the footnote number at the bottom of the page. Then, at the very end of the paper, the bibliography page summarizes all of the bibliographic information used throughout the entire paper. Turabian is the standard citation style for religion and history courses at most American colleges, including LUO. My family bought me this book while I was visiting them in China. China was always filled with smog as if it was God's break room. Every building tall enough as if to reach out to the dark skies and gloomy atmosphere. Natively spread out across the city of Beijing lived most of my family excluding me, my parents, and step–siblings. I'd visit them as the last male heir to the Sha name and they adored me. I had a cousin that was my age who lived there named Sydney. They did not adore her as much, even though she was more Chinese in my eyes. My grandpa passed away on white sheets in a dull room, plugged into machines designed to either delay death's visit, or make it less painful. On account of my parents, my grandpa would hold me in his arms as I looked up into his toothless smile. But I remember my grandma through my warmth filled memories of her. Rooms brimmed with steam containing the scent of my grandmother's Chinese cooking,.The kitchen and dining area, filled with stories of the past in a time much different and chaotic than mine. She passed away as well. On the day of her funeral, tears streamed down every face except mine, and the atmosphere turned gloomier. To this day I have never cried for her. He also remarks on use the clothing as much one can; therefore we understand that is better to invest in something lasting rather than the trendy item. Gesell, suggests that the fact of inheriting clothes is a good thing, except of course underwear. When selecting fibres he points out that we must use only natural fibres, which suggests to the reader that the fact of choosing those specific fibres added to the fact of inheriting clothes will help to create a timeless look. Gesell is not constant with the advices given which suggests that the reader should already have a sense of style and most important, common sense when dressing. He also remarks that wearing overly trendy pieces will make the overall look and intention the opposite as intended. In conclusion, this guide is after all guidance for all those men who enjoy dressing up and have a keen interest in men's fashions. The topics being discussed in this piece have more to see with the perceptions that others have towards clothing. Sixteen students from diverse scientific and law specialties were assigned to four groups to create business plans for biotechnology commercialization. Because of the large number of factors studied and the small number of students/teams used in the study, additional study is required to demonstrate the applicability of these findings to the general population of entrepreneurial teams. • 38. Analysis Of The Book ' Wicc A Guide For The Solitary... Wicca The book I chose was "Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner" by Scott Cunningham. I decided on this book because I felt I knew the least about pagan religions. Wicca in particular, seemed as though it would be an interesting choice to study. The book covers nearly every aspect of the Wiccan religion. I learned a bit of their history, and a great deal of their common beliefs and practices. Pagan religions by design are often centered around nature, and Wicca is no exception. However, unlike many other religions it neglects to seek out new members and is at risk of becoming nothing more than another relic in today's world. Modern Wicca has fighting a to resistance to irrelevancy and has been subject to much change since its roots originating thousands of years ago. Though modern Wicca is often viewed as a new age religion, very similar practices can be traced back to the paleolithic age in the form of shamanism. Like Wiccans, "the shamans were the power wielders, male and female. They wrought magic and spoke to the spirits of nature" (Cunningham 3). However, in contrast to shamanism, Wiccans have shied away from "the ordeals of pain and the use of hallucinogens in favor of chanting, meditation, invocation, and ritual"(4). The religion was also drawn from the later concentrations of paganism in Northern Europe. Wiccans were viewed to be the heirs of the pre–christian era folk religions in England and Ireland. There has never been a case where that is more apparent than the book written by Douglas Adams in 1978 to the 2005 movie rendition of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy directed by Garth Jennings. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is an english science fiction comedy novel that follows Arthur Dent through his misadventures in the galaxy with Ford prefect after earth is to be demolished to make way for an intergalactic bypass. The story is satirical guide book to help you navigate and hitchhike throughout the galaxy. The first comparison and contrast will be about the characters and their appearance and personality. • 54. What Is The Best Writing Format? Nate Davis Mrs. Pond English 11 24 February 2016 What is the best writing format? It might seem like a boring topic, but it is for a grade so here goes. We use writing formats if we write anything. Some are formal, others are far more common. I prefer formal, Which do you think is the best? There are over 500 writing formats, and although some believe that the most common ones are the best, the best are MLA, the 2nd is APA, and the 3rd is CMS, etc... My favorite is MLA is the Modern Language Association and the rules are: to type your paper on a computer and print it out on 8.5x11–inch paper. Double–space your text, and use a legible font. Whatever font you choose, MLA recommends that the regular and italics type styles contrast enough that they are recognizable one from another. The font size should be 12 pt and Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks. Set the margins of your document to one inch on all sides and Indent the first line of paragraphs one half–inch from the left margin. MLA recommends that you use the Tab key as opposed to pushing the Space Bar five times and Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper right–hand corner, one–half inch from the top and flush with the right margin. Use italics throughout your essay for the titles of longer works and, only when necessary, providing emphasis. • 58. Toward A Recovery Of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks Toward a Recovery of Nineteenth Century Farming Handbooks While researching texts written about nineteenth century farming, I found a few authors who published books about the literature of nineteenth century farming, particularly agricultural journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures. These authors often placed the farming literature they were studying into an historical context by discussing the important events in agriculture of the year in which the literature was published (see Demaree, for example). However, while these authors discuss journals, newspapers, pamphlets, and brochures, I could not find much discussion about another important source of farming knowledge: farming handbooks. My goal in this paper is to bring this source into the agricultural literature discussion by connecting three agricultural handbooks from the nineteenth century with nineteenth century agricultural history. To achieve this goal, I have organized my paper into four main sections, two of which have sub–sections. In the first section, I provide an account of three important events in nineteenth century agricultural history: population and technological changes, the distribution of scientific new knowledge, and farming's influence on education. In the second section, I discuss three nineteenth century farming handbooks in connection with the important events described in the first section. • 62. Writing Style Essays Writing Style What is writing style? I started out thinking that writing style is a personal thing and that all writers have their own style. But, this way of thinking is really just a simple way to answer the question. After more careful thought, I realized that style is actually quite the opposite of personal and original. Style is a form of standardization. As writers, we all follow certain rules and guidelines to make our point. Style is these rules and guidelines. For a writer to better understand style, multitudes of books and helpful guides have been published. Many are written as lists of rules about word choice, constructions to avoid, common stylistic traps, and other such things. One of these is The Elements of Style by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe this to be a common mistake. Strunk and White refer to this usage as the "serial" comma. The only time they believe it is acceptable to not follow this rule is in the case of a business or a firm containing three or more names. Often the second comma will be omitted. Another very important rule dealing with commas is rule number 4, "place a comma before a conjunction introducing an independent clause" (Strunk and White, 5). This rule not only points out the proper place to put a comma, but also the fact that there are two part sentences. Some writers tend to put a period where a comma should be placed, maybe because they are uncomfortable with where to put the comma. An example of proper comma usage in this case would be "The early records of the city have disappeared, and the story of its first years can no longer be reconstructed" (Strunk and White, 5). Relatinging back to breaking a two–part sentence into two sentences is rule number six. One should be careful to not place a period where a comma should be. "I met them on a Cunard Liner many years ago. Coming home from Liverpool to New York" (Strunk and White, 7). In this example, the first period should really be a comma. An additional and significant rule to writing is the usage of the "he/she" pronoun. This is mentioned

  • 72. Short Summary : The Story Of Jimmy Carterer The story of Jimmy Carter is a story of a little boy who goes blind at the age of eleven. Jimmy lived a very normal life. He enjoyed playing baseball with his friends, and hiking with his scout troop. One day, when Jimmy and his friends were playing baseball out at the old sandlot, they find a firecracker where a firework stand had been set up previously. One of the boys, Mike, decides to light the firecracker and it gets thrown at Jimmy's face. Jimmy is immediately sent to the hospital where his face is bandaged and his eyes are covered. However, when the bandages were removed, Jimmy saw nothing but darkness. In fact, everything seemed so dark that he asked the doctor to keep un–wrapping because he must not have uncovered Jimmy's whole face. Jimmy resented Mike for a long time for throwing the firecracker near his face. Jimmy begins learning how to function without his eyesight. He struggles to get dressed in the morning and he is hesitant to walk around for fear of what he may run into. Soon, Jimmy learns how to function with a white cane by holding it out to the ground in front of him and moving it back and forth as not to run into anything. He learns how to feel his way through familiar, indoor, environment by holding one arm close to his chest for protection, and one arm straight out so that he didn't run into anything. Jimmy, also, learns to read braille, as he begins to learn a new way of functioning. His friends and his sister also learned to read Braille. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Helen Keller : Being Blind And Deaf People take their abilities and lifestyle for granted every day because they have not experienced having very little and being limited in their everyday lives. Many do not know what it is like to lose something or have so little so they do not appreciate the small gifts and opportunities in life that can easily be taken away. "The things we take for granted, someone else is praying for." This quote is explains how the food fortunate people eat every day, the clothes bought regularly, and cars people ride in each day, other people yearn for. Helen Keller was not only blind, but also deaf and for a good part of her life, she did not have the luxury of seeing or hearing which is taken for granted. Sometimes many people lose their sight or hearing and after, they realize how grateful they were for having that sense at the time and appreciate their senses more. As a child, Helen struggled to adapt to be being blind and deaf. Due to her handicap, Helen did not have as many of the opportunities in life that the majority of people do. Living a life of both blindness and deafness is a huge challenge, but Helen Keller is proof that people can overcome the challenges of being blind and deaf and still go on with life accomplishing goals. For example, in space, gravity is suspended and things tend to be far more weightless, and floating about. If you were aiming for an object to land at a certain destination, it would most likely never make it there without some type of guidance system to manipulate and use the laws of gravity. On earth, the law of gravity pulls objects down from great heights to great depths in a matter of minutes or seconds. Depending on the purpose and where you are, it takes an awareness of the laws like gravity to use that law correctly and fulfill your purpose in space or on earth. Likewise, style is a law of writing as gravity is a law. Like the law of gravity, we have to be aware of the laws of style. Gravity exists whether we like it or not. Style also exists whether we want it to or not. If you ignore the laws of gravity, you will either crash to your death, or be left floating in space. With style, a writer will either carry the reader to the intended destination, or leave the reader floating like a man lost in space, without any understanding on what your point was. I have established a concept of style as a law of writing. This doesn't take away the fact that it is a complex law. The very word "style" eludes people like the mysteries of deep space. I have visions of endless Williams examples and illustrations on clarity. I see weeks of blog writings flashing through my memory. From all of this, I now own and believe in a firm and personal definition of what style is and what good writing entails. William Strunk and E.B. Strunk and White and Williams share those thoughts with their readers, and while I do not agree with all of their rules, as a writer, I believe within these style books I have found guidelines in which writers can fulfill their purpose. As a reader, I feel that if writers follow some of the guidelines Strunk and White and Williams have to offer to the world, I can come away from a piece of writing affected. The next question would be: how is a reader affected? Well, a reader cannot be affected unless a piece of writing is presented clearly. A piece of writing must be written in a way that any person can pick it up, read it, and not only understand the point the author is trying to convey through her/his writing, but be able to follow the flow of information. For that to take place, the information must be presented in a clear manner. I believe this to be an important part of style; without it the style of a piece of writing can be lost. One of Strunk and White's principles of composition suggests that writers "express coordinate ideas in similar form." It goes on to explain that, "...expressions similar in content and function be outwardly similar. "The likeness of form enables the reader to recognize more readily the likeness of content and function" (26). This book is fascinating because it offers insight into the ideals of gender in medieval society, which shows how when a medieval woman entered marriage they had no agency because they were limited to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The domination of the wife by the husband in marriage is most notable in the, Good Wife's Guide, where the narrator sets strict rules for his wife by telling her how to dress and behave in public. The narrator's orders of how the wife is to dress and behave shows how married women in the Late Middle Ages had no agency because they were not free to choose on what they wanted to wear or how they behave as that is dictated to them by their husbands. The story of Griselda in, The Good Wife's Guide, also exemplifies the domination of the husband's authority because the narrator uses Griselda's obedience to her husband to use as an example and show his wife that she must always obey his authority no matter what the task at hand is. The narrator uses the story of Griselda to constantly persuade his wife to be obedient to his commands and acts like it's her obligation to do so because in return she will receive his love and praise for fulfilling his obligations. By analyzing the story of Griselda in, The Good Wife's Guide, it can be related to a broader aspect in the late middle ages because it shows how women are supposed to act in marriage whereby the husband acts as a dictator in the marriage and the women are supposed to be obedient ... " and "Why do everyone in this room have this intense love for horror movies was two phrases that I heard one night at my friend's house while we watched Jason killed his 3rd victim on Friday the 13th. "Horror is defined as being a strong aversion mingled with dread" stated by Patrick Johnson in his paper, "The Importance of Horror". Just like Graff's essay on "Hidden Intellectualism", there is a hidden value in horror films and books. Horror has played a large part in the human race and it has existed ever since the 1700s. From the Devil's Castle in 1896 to Ouija: Origin of Evil in 2016, horror films have been around for a long period time and they are not going to go away no time soon. Furthermore, Graff states that "nor do we consider one of the major reasons why schools and colleges overlook the intellectual potential of street smarts" (957). In a like manner, we could say that people overlook the value of horror films and books. First, finding the value of horror flicks and books. Second, why do people value horror flicks and books? Last, how do horror films and books have value. When you analyze horror movies from the past and compare them to the ones, they all have one common trait, which is that they have some type of value to people. Most people do not see the value in horror movies and books. People only see the wicked feelings and actions that horror movies do to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Maggie was always the quiet type who preferred to be at home. Maggie "is a figure of purity, uncorrupted by selfishness or complex emotional needs" (www.sparknotes.com) who wishes to be untouched by the outside world. The family quilts that Maggie were supposed to inherit were used as symbolism in the story. The quilts symbolize the "bonds between women of different generations and their enduring legacy",(www.enotes.com) and "culture and heritage". (www.suite101.com) Maggie understands the history and relationship tied into each and every quilt whereas Dee does not. Maggie and her mama think the quilts "are pieces of living history, documents in fabric that chronicle the lives of the various generations and trials". Maggie knows the quilts are crafts from her grandmother, and that there is no way to set a financial amount to their worth. The yard also carries symbolism. It symbolizes a private places where ... Picture Of The Indian Culture And Society Picture of the Indian Culture and Society : Malgudi Days R.K Narayan Chapter 1 "Malgudi Days" is a gathering of short stories composed by R.K.Narayan and likely the most renowned title connected with R.K.Narayan with the special case of "Swami and Friends." So what is so unique about R.K.Narayan 's exposition that earned him so much honors? That is only the catch. There is nothing unique and that is the place the claim to fame lies. The composition is disarmingly basic, the dialect is not adapted or even colloquial(slang). It is basically English, yet the complete self, the accent and society is unashamedly Indian. Furthermore, that is the thing that made Narayan acclaimed. That unmistakable Indian touch in a period when it was stylish for Indian creators to gorilla the West. Instead of calling them short stories, it would be ideal to call them a gathering of accounts or even tales. For you won 't discover solid, affectionate, plot–and–activity arranged stories yet simply customary existences of conventional individuals in all its commonness. Some of them differ a touch: a percentage of the stories are humorous, some gently fabulous, some sad, some comic, however a large portion of them mirroring the cross–area of social life in India in Narayan 's period. Some believe that the meaning of life comes from a variety of reasons, such as religion, hope, or simply just living life. In the book, A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, this famous question is posed, and many wait for thousands of years in order to find the answer, which turned out to be "42". For some, this may be a disappointing answer but for others it may be relieving. People have been struggling with this question for as long as time, and will continue to struggle with this question. However, some find peace with this question. It depends on how someone looks at life in order to answer this question. In William James's essay, The Will to Believe, he states that people have the will to either believe the truth or to not believe the truth. This truth has to be live, forced, and momentous. It has to be live, meaning that it is something possible for one to believe. It cannot be impossible. It has to be forced; one cannot avoid making a decision. One is faced with two options and then must decide between the two of them. It also has to be momentous; it must be a life changing decision that one makes. It is important enough to change the way one lives' life. James view on religion is that the best things are eternal, and it is better to live believing these things than not. He calls this the Religious Hypothesis, and believes that tit is better of to believe these things than not. "The so– called ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 144. Characterism In Planet Of The Blind By Stephen Kuusisto Planet of the Blind is brilliantly written by Stephen Kuusisto; he delves into his life story and gives readers exceptionally realistic descriptions of his experiences. Beginning the memoir, it is clear that Kuusisto is undergoing an obvious struggle between himself and his blindness. Born with retinopathy of prematurity, Kuusisto's parents do their best to avoid his impairment. Due to this, Kuusisto describes himself as developing a sixth sense of giving off the perception that he could see significantly better than what he actually could. Throughout the memoir, Kuusisto chronologically tells of significant events during his childhood, teenage years, and adulthood and how he came to accept his disability and be confident in himself. During the course of these significant events, Kuusisto uses poetry to convey his emotions while also using the rhetoric of emancipation. At an early age, Stephen Kuusisto discovered his love of literature. He speaks of two saints in his life, the first being Mrs. Edinger who taught him how to read. It is evident, in Kuusisto's writing, that literature was a safe place for him. As the book goes on lines of poetry are written after a story or thought is stated. It was intriguing to read little bits of poems as though it was exactly what was going through Kuusisto's mind at that very moment. Personally, it seemed as though Kuusisto associated all of his feelings and emotions with poetry. Furthermore, the poetry he quotes is not necessarily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carl Moor and Richard H. Eckhouse, attempts to tie together the broad policies and interrelationships that exist among the many functional areas which undergraduate students typically study. The authors intend the text to supplement the typical case book and/or computer simulations used in teaching business strategy (ix). Situational analysis is presented, as is a structure for developing strategy. Practicality and real world experience is combined with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The authors divide the environment into two distinct parts: remote and immediate. The remote environment consists of such aspects as: global economics, political factors, social and demographic features, technology and physical resources. The immediate environment comprises such areas as: customers and prospects, competitors, the labor pool, suppliers, creditors and government agencies (7). To those business managers who are of the opinion that they cannot forecast the future because they have problems in the present, the authors counter that by being mindful of what the future may hold, the managers can minimize their problems in the present. This chapter concludes with a discussion of opportunities and threats. Murdick, Moor and Eckhouse suggest that opportunities, like the environment itself, can be divided into immediate and long–term for the purpose of analysis. Immediate opportunities include new applications of existing products, new processes in manufacturing, and new and improved customer service (8). Threats that pose immediate problems may also pose extremely fragile environmental situations. Avoiding environmental threats requires long– term planning and anticipation of potential problems. Environmental threats may include competitors, changes in customer demand, legislation, inflation, recession and technological breakthroughs. In addition to opportunities and threats, which help managers attain long–term and short–term business ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is highly recommended that this book be read first whether the writer is confident about their ability to follow the rules of grammar or not. After you have read enough of Strunk & White to feel somewhat confident (or even frustrated) by the rules that you already knew or forgot, examine Style by Joseph M. Williams. Mr. Williams is a professor of English and Linguistics at the University of Chicago. You may have already encountered another book published by the University on the subject. Fear not; Williams book is not an immense conundrum of rules in the same vein as The Chicago Manual of Style. I prefer to think of it as a response to Strunk & White; Williams will address many of the same rules of writing from a refreshingly unique viewpoint. Some readers may find his work incredibly dull and prefer The Elements of Style for its short and simple guidelines. Or you may find yourself enjoying a newfound sense of freedom from the rather liberal suggestion of Williams that some rules are, in fact, meant to be broken. If you are of an analytical or logical frame of mind you may enjoy the many diagrams and trees he created as examples of his statements. If you do not fit into this group, do not let these examples get in the way of the underlying message. Writing, Williams appears to suggest, is not about rules and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I went on Sunday November 20, 2016 and wanted to go because the house was built in the Victorian era. I've always been quite intrigued with the Victorian era overall. That includes architecture, people, and the culture. The Bush House belonged to Asahel Bush II (1824–1913) became editor and publisher of The Oregon Statesman newspaper in 1851, and later served as state printer. He lived in the house with Eugenia Zieber Bush (1833–1863) and his four children, Estelle (1856– 1942), Asahel (1858– 1953), Sally (1860–1946) and Eugenia (1862–1932). Later in 1863, Bush's wife died at age 39 with Tuberculosis and so the children only lived with him after that while later moving forth with their own lives as adults. However, I have declined to provide a ticket due to this following reason: my good colleague, Karen Howard and I got lost trying to locate the Bush House Museum. We finally arrived at 1:20 and graciously waited for the tour guide to come to the door after we rang the bell. She came out and we explained to her that we lost our way in trying to find the house. We told her we intended to come for the 1pm tour. Thankfully, we did not have to wait for the 2pm tour and she took us right in.
