Teenage Dating Violence And Prevention
"Nearly 1.5 million high school students across the country experience physical violence at the hands of a dating partner each year" (Duret). Teenage
dating violence is on the rise. Due to recent advances in technology, abuse issues are more prevalent; technology allows room for students to lash out
over text messaging and through social media. However, teen violence can be prevented. The government has established laws and campaigns to
educate and protect victims. Teenagers go through many changes during their adolescent years and peer influence can make it hard to decipher
between right and wrong. However, by high school, teenagers should be able to determine and understand healthy relationships; unfortunately, teenage
dating violence statistics continue to rise at alarming rates. Teenage dating violence can be physical, sexual and/or physiological abuse. In the article,
"There's a Fine Line... Adolescent Dating Violence and Prevention," author Judith Herrman explains "dating violence is the occurrence of physically,
sexually and/or emotionally violent episodes in an intimate, interpersonal relationship" (Herrman 164). The violent relationship includes a victim along
with a perpetrator. Adolescent years are a major stage of development for teenager and the inconsistency of teenage relationships is the reason teenage
dating violence is on the rise. Dating violence can occur regardless of religion, ethnicity or socio–economic background. Domestic violence usually first

Economic Consequences Of Teen Moms
recognizes their moms struggle and for the most part are comprising. Through our lives we developing numerous life skills that are used to help with
our problem solving skills and other challenges. Since, teen moms are adolescence themselves they like adult experiences and knowledge such as
budgeting, and educational qualifications. Children who come from poor household tend to fall in a cycle of violence or emotional stress. Teen moms
either have a high school diploma or equivalent which can only get them a job to stay within the the poor population. Majority of teen moms stop at
high school because college isn't ideal financially. The less educated background a mom has the more likely their children will fall into the unskilled
workforce and negatively affect the economy. Asadolescence this discourages children to socially active and participant in extra curriculum activities.
"Affluent individuals are more likely to have the social bridges and networks that collectively benefit children by giving them access to a wider array
of resources. Unfortunately, social and economic changes of the past decade resulted in exodus of many affluent individuals and families from the
urban centers. (Atkins, Hart, pg.159)." Since, the neighborhoods are full of crime most professional and qualified advocates aren't willing to risk their
safety. Therefore, if there are any extra festivities going on they aren't local or affordable for a teen mom. Economic consequences of being a teen

Does Reality Shows Prevent Or Promote Teen Pregnancy?
Does Reality Shows Prevent or Promote Teen Pregnancy? Reality shows that are based on teen pregnancy like 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom sheds
light about the troubles on becoming a teen parent, finishing high school and struggling to buy the baby's need and wants. Lately, these shows are
stirring a debate if they are trying to support or avoid teen pregnancy. And this topic is important to the public, because it relates to the young
community's future. Young girls and boys can watch these shows and have different outlooks about having a child. Sometimes, glamorizing teen
pregnancy on television might confuse the young community, because they can be fickle at times. They might think it is acceptable to be pregnant so
young and others will consider waiting until marriage. Reality shows can either encourage or discourage teen pregnancy based on the individual's
mentality.
Firstly, young girls who watch the shows might want to be pregnant in order to be famous. In her Opposing Viewpoints article, Kroll said, "This
created a media frenzy. These girls became celebrities in what seemed to be overnight". Some girls might have a gullible misconception about the teen
parents on the shows. They do not know that they have to handle the hardships on taking care of a child along with having the "fame and fortune"
lifestyle. Additionally, young girls might think it is alright to be treated unfairly because it is being televised. The cameras are capturing moments that

The Growing Problem of Teenage Violence in Schools Today...
The Growing Problem of Teenage Violence in Schools Today
There is a growing problem with teenage violence today in school. The problem is teenagers are getting more and more violent. Many of them resort
to violence as a way to deal with anger and stress. Most of teenage violence starts with the so called thugs who think they rule the school. Not just the
thugs but anybody in general who thinks they can beat up on people and act all tough and push everyone around. Another source of this violence is the
outcasts or nerds that the bullies pick on because they're different, but the worst type of violence is racism, like Nazis who hate people because of there
race, religion, or there sexual preference. This violence may be coming from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like, if al your older brothers and sisters smoke pot, and all of your cousins smoke pot, that person will most likely smoke pot eventually, at least
once, so this could possibly cause violence behavior also. Music also plays a factor in violence at school is the music a person listens to. I don't
think that just because someone has a Metalica c.d. is violent, or everyone with a Dave Mathews Band c.d. is not violent, but if your listening to
some body singing about killing, or beating somebody, that might just encourage somebody to do it by listening to other people doing it. One last
reason for violence is TV. role models. If you look up to 2Pac, you may grow up to not care at all, because of his violent movies, and teenagers may
think that if you die by a gun, it is honorable to die the same way 2Pac did, but most people don't not get shot for no reason, so they will start fights
with people. If you look up to The Rock, or other wresters, you may grow up wrestling and punching for fun with your friends, and then you grow
up fighting, so this will lead to violent aggressions if someone ticks you off one day, so you will bash some guy's head in who slept with your
girlfriend. As you can see violence problem in school, one possible salutation to this problem, is to legalize marijuana and urge students to smoke
before school and in the bathrooms. It's really not that outrageous

Relationship Between '16 And Pregnant And Teen Mom'...
Do you believe shows like ' 16 & Pregnant ' and ' Teen Mom ' glamorize teen pregnancy ? Or do you think they present a cautionary tale ? Studies
began to show that in fact they don't glamorize it , yet they caused teenage pregnancy to decrease . Also teenage mothers have been showed as abused
or in jail . Also some of these mothers haven't even finished school . Multiple teen parents from these shows have stressed the point that being a teen
parent is harder than it is cut out to be . Kailyn Lowery from ' 16 & Pregnant ' says " I still haven't gotten my bachelor's degree because one , daycare is

In 2013, the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey reported that 21% of female and 10% of male high school students experienced some form of
physical and/or sexual dating violence. It was also reported that youth who are victims of dating violence in high school are at greater risk of
victimization during college (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2016). The purpose of this paper is to bring awareness to this
very serious, yet preventable, public health issue and to serve as a comprehensive source of knowledge on the subject of teen dating violence. This
paper will address the three types of dating violence, risk factors, warning signs, screening tools for health care providers to use, and the downfall of
negative health effects that could happen when a teen becomes victim to dating violence. The ultimate goal is prevention of teen dating violence,
however, it is also imperative that the proper resources be easily accessible to those already affected. This can be done by assessing the problem and
providing the right education to empower teens to allow them to feel safe in all situations.
Unhealthy relationships can start early and last a lifetime. Teens often think some behaviors, like teasing and name calling, are a "normal" part of a
relationship.

TEENAGE PREGNANCY AMONG BLACK & HISPANIC GIRLS
Birth rates in African American and Hispanic teens are substantially higher than whites, a trend that has persisted for decades. Even thoughpregnancy
rates among teens are at an all time low. It is still a major issue but mostly affecting the urban communities. In this research paper I will be comparing
and demonstrating the relationships between teenage pregnancy, social issues, and education.

According to an article I read stated that adolescence become parents because their educational experiences show little or no promise. It is suggested
that identifying young girls with academic and social emotional difficulties early on and intervening could have a positive impact on reversing teen
adolescent behaviors such as teen pregnancy. (Goddings, Anne–Lise1,2 Burnett Heyes, Stephanie2,3,4 Bird, Geoffrey2,5 Viner, Russell M.1
Blakemore, Sarah–Jayne, 2002) In conclusion according to the data that was obtained it seems that both women are led to believe they are less than
the white race per se. They are led to believe that it is natural to be looked at as statistics in society. These young women have lack of education on
top of it all and need to be taught not only the proper skills needed to prevent pregnancy but taught that they are better than statistics and can excel at
anything any other race can. As parent and teachers we need to spend more time with our children so they are not out engaging in negative risky
behaviors. It is our responsibility! We are the adults, not the children. We must not wait until it is to late. It has become critical that we look into the
underlying reasons so that we can get a better handle on this matter.

The Positive Impacts Of Teen Pregnancy And Abortion In The...
The United States has been recognized as the country with the highest rate of teen pregnancy and abortions for many years. Although a baby is seen as
a beautiful blessing, teenage pregnancy has many negative effects, such as lack of financial & emotional stability, delayed education, unemployment,
poverty, and even worse increased risk for medical complications. Teenagepregnancy and abortions have been in decline over the years due to
increased knowledge about sexual health, use of contraceptives, and abstinence. In most households parents avoid having conversations about sex. The
reality is that most teens these days are not waiting until marriage to have sex. It is only right that parents educate them about sex. There is a lot of
information that is not taught in sexual education or that google cannot provide answers to. As a result, most kids are curious and they go out into the
world and learn on their own. In recent years, teen pregnancy have declined. However, the United States is still the country that has the highest teen
pregnancy rates. Although the rates have declined significantly, teen pregnancy is still a major social problem because girls are getting pregnant every
day. In 2011, statistics concluded that more than 400,000 girls ages 15–19 were giving birth each year in the United States. Teen prgenancy effects the
mother, father, child, and community due to emotional, phyiscal, and financial costs (Vitalsigns, 2011). Society works together to

Social Class As A Way That Constrains Someone 's Life...
America is a country that has been founded on the myth of equality and opportunity. The "Horatio Alger" myth, which states that people who work
hard will survive and thrive in America, has passed away to the notion of generational privilege (Alger, 1910). Economic inequality absolutely exists
in America today, and the social class into which an individual is born affects their life chances and opportunities for social mobility to a stunning
and upsetting degree. In this essay, I will argue that the evidence points to the strong, overwhelming role of social class as a way that constrains
someone's life chances and opportunities for social mobility. I will show how income inequality creates segregation, unequal access to education and
health care, and puts poor people at higher risk of violent crime, and all of these factors together underscore the deep urgency and unfairness with
respect to income inequality in the United States. People in America hate to talk about social class, and part of the reason for this is that they rarely
even interact with people who belong to other social classes. One recent study found that "...the growth in income inequality from 1970 to 2000
affected patterns of income segregation along three dimensions: the spatial segregation of poverty and affluence, race– specific patterns of income
segregation, and the geographic scale of income segregation" (Reardon & Bischoff, 2011, p. 1092). This means that the more incomes stratify, the less

The Effects Of Sexual Violence On Teenage Girls Essay
Purpose:
The research study that was done by Decker, Raj, and Silverman which focused on the impacts of sexual violence in teenage girls. This research study
hits on a major social issue that happens throughout society that has been going for many decades now, it emphases whether or not immigration and
acculturation are related factors in sexual violence amongst this age group. Sexual Violence and victimization is a topic that we study on in the school
of social work at Ryerson, as we take an anti–oppressive approach to social issues that happen around the world. Violence against women has been a
topic explored by several researchers over the years. Unfortunately, they never studied sexual violence against adolescent girls who come from
immigrated families. Violence against women can happen in many different forms such as physical, sexual, emotional or psychological (The Line,
2016). As social workers, we need to make sure that the service users have access to all the services that they need "spanning outreach, primary and
secondary prevention education, medical advocacy, legal services, and crisis counseling, to meet the needs of immigrant adolescents experiencing
sexual assault." (Decker, Raj, & Silverman, 2007).
This study used a quantitative approach to research as this was just based on numerical data that was collected through small groups or done
individually by participants. Quantitative analysis allows us to "to determine how thing affects another in a population."

Teenage Pregnancy Essay
Why is it important to understand how adverse childhood experiences create risk factors that can impact teenage pregnancy? The answer is
multifaceted and complex, but an important consequence of teenage pregnancy is to the baby itself. Children of teenage mothers have more health
issues, are more likely to be abused, be less educated, and more likely to become criminals (Hillis, et al., 2004, p. 2). Moreover, because teenage
mothers are poorer and have less emotional support, children of teenage mothers are more likely to be abused both physically and emotionally
(Rosenberg, 2001, p. 185). Consequently, by understanding how adverse childhood events can increase teenage pregnancies and its risk factors,

1610). However, Widom and Kuhns observed that there is no correlation between physical abuse and teenage pregnancies (p. 1609).
Men that witnessed maternal battery as children also have an increased risk of impregnating a teenage girl. Men that grew up witnessing constant
abuse against their mother are twice as prone to getting a teenage girl pregnant as men that did not witness maternal abuse (Rosenberg, 2001, p. 184).
Overall, when men grew up in households where there was repeated maternal abuse, 11% of men in the survey impregnated teenage girls (Rosenberg,
2001, p. 184).
Childhood abuse is not the solitary contributing factor in teenage pregnancy, duration, multiple abuses, and frequency similarly contribute (Rosenberg,
2001, pp. 184–185). According to Rosenberg men who as children had recurrently experienced or witnessed maternal abuse were twice as likely to
impregnate a teenager (pp. 184–185). Furthermore, men who as children experienced two or more types of maltreatment were more than twice as apt
to impregnate a teenage girl (Rosenberg, 2001, pp. 184–185). Significantly, the odds ratio for adolescent pregnancy radically and incrementally raised
as exposure to childhood abuse increased (Hillis, et al., 2004, p. 5).
Childhood abuse, according to Widom and Kuhns is not a predetermining factor in teenage pregnancies. Instead they say there are additional variables
that were never eliminated and

The Socio Economic Factors Of Teenage Pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy is normally identified as deprived life choice, for example, tasks of teenage parenting have long–term impact on the mental health
of the mother and children (Statistics New Zealand, 2003). It is important to identify the socio economic factors of teenage pregnancy to lower the
chances of mental health problems in young mothers. In this paper the aim is to analyse the main socio economic factors of teenage pregnancy and
discuss how it affects the mental health of an adolescent mother in New Zealand. This essay will commence by identifying how a lack of education is
considered as a socio economic factor associated with teenage pregnancy, followed by the second theme which will consist of economic circumstances
such as, parental unemployment and welfare dependency. Lastly, this essay will discuss how deficiency of support fromfamily and friends lead to
unstable relationships, which has a huge impact on a teenage mother's mental health. A lack of education is one of the main socio economic factors
which impact the mental health of an adolescent mother. Studies show a number of negative outcomes that are linked with dropping out of school at
an early age. For example, youth that tend to gain fewer educational qualifications are more likely to be in unstable relationships resulting in a lack of
knowledge regarding contraceptive use which leaves them to deal with economic circumstances (Breheny & Stephens, 2008; Friesen, Woodward,

A gang is a group of people who interact among themselves. Teen violence is contributed to these gangs. Most gangs claim neighborhoods as their
territory and try to control everything inside that territory. This kind of antisocial behavior is a major problem in American Society.
Gang members are typical members of the same ethnic group. Fear and hatred for people of another race is called xenophobia. People who are
victims of racism are often racists themselves. Rap music often features lyrics that are offensive to Asians, Jews, and African Americans. Earlier this

People hearing news of Industrializing set out looking for jobs and when they couldn't find any jobs some adults would form gangs and hired
children to assist them. The novel '' Oliver Twist'' is a prime example of what these were like and what they did. Street gangs were born in England
then crossed the Atlantic Ocean and entered the United States. These Europeans had no place to live or go so they lived in a trashy neighborhood
called the 5pt. District. Some turned to crime for financial support. The 5pt. District became the training ground for the thieves. The first gang formed
here was known as the Forty Thieves. A taveren called Rossanna's Place became the meeting place of this gang. In 1825 the Kerronians, Plug Uglies,
Shirt Tails, and Dead Rabbits were formed. Some gangs murdered than stole in a violent manor.
Gangs today often sell drugs for huge profits. The most popular drug soled by today's gangs is cocaine or crack cocaine. Drugs like marijauna and
heroine is still sold by gang members today but it's not as popular. Gangs today are even more violent than earlier gangs. People join gangs for social
support, entertainment, and economical financial support. Some gangs are just a group of people who hang out and think the world is against them.
This is a ''them and us'' way of thinking. Both small and large gangs can become involved in criminal acts. Gangs

Picture Perfect Family Analysis
What I found interesting, in this chapter, is that the teenage birthrate was twice as high in 1957 than in the 1990's. This is actually quite surprising,
given the "squeaky clean" image of the family structure at that time. The author does sight that abortions were not as accessible at that time as they
are today, but considering that "picture perfect families" were depicted as the norm at that time, it would lead someone to believe that teenage sexual
relations did not occur as often as they do today. Another reason this information surprises me is due to the comments, my friends and I were
subjected to growing up, by middle aged adults who grew up during the 50's, regarding young unwed pregnant women. One comment in particular was

was much larger for young women who grew up in a household with a stay at home mother. Why is this? Are young women who see their mothers
work more independent, driven and confident than those with mothers who stayed at home? Are these young women pushed towards careers by their
parents, or do they just have a desire for financial independence? Do young woman who see their mothers stay at home, lack motivation or do they

Sexual Education
In the future Sexual Education courses will prevent teen pregnancy and teen abortions as well as educate students about factors that can affect life such
as the deadly disease AIDS and other STD's, inform youth about making smart choices about sex now and in the future, prevents accidental
pregnancies, and assist in empowerment and awareness against sexual violence.
According to the article "State Policies on Sex Education in Schools" only 15% of states offer sex education. That's approximately 8 out of 50 states that
offer this course. And within those states there are only few high schools who offer these classes. Just like math, science, social studies, and reading,
sexual education can benefit students outside the classroom as well. For example learning math can help a student count money when they purchase
items, science can help in identifying chemicals when needed, social studies teaches students about history and how things were made, and reading
teaches students how to speak, read and write correctly. Sexual Education is an instructive class or course that teaches students about human sexuality,
including emotional and physical relations and responsibilities, human anatomy, sexual activity, sexual reproduction, reproductive health and rights,
safe sex, birth control and other medications, STD's and sexual abstinence, which is obviously important to life, more specifically the body.

An Ideal Age At Which Women Should Conceive Their First Child
Introduction According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS, 2012), the age at which women have their first baby has consistently increased in
recent decades. Cumulative research proposes that adolescent parenthood may impinge on childhood development because of a variety of factors,
including psychological, biological and socio–contextual factors, and thus having children at an older age may be more beneficial for the child. This
review seeks to examine whether there is an ideal age at which women should conceive their first child so as to ensure optimal development throughout
childhood.

Since 1972, the median age of women becoming first time mothers has gradually grown.
Factors Influencing Development Shulz, Pruett, Kerig and Parke (2010) suggested that children who develop in a supportive and unchanging
environment will have a greater opportunity to develop more socially in tune skills, have greater motivation to learn and increased physical capacity.
Optimal development, therefore, can be influenced by a number of factors, especially including those of a biological, socio–contextual or
psychological nature.
Socio–Contextual Factors According to Carolyn Makinson (1985), other than the age of motherhood, the most influential factor in FTP is the
availability of adequate financial resources. Generally, those first time mothers in their later years of life, such as in their late thirties, are likely to
have a more stabilized financial situation as a result of recent feminist movements (Hill, K & Kaplan, H., 1999). As a result of these movements,
many women are spending their younger years employed and pursuing career related goals, as opposed to being 'house mothers'. (Axmon, A.,
Rylander, L. & Hagmar, L., 2005) These changing social attitudes support and empower women, especially those of an older age, may prove to be
more beneficial for childhood development (Cohen, 2013). That is, children are likely to have greater access to higher quality education, health care

Teen Pregnancy Problems
I.Public Health Problem
Teen pregnancy has become an issue in our society that is affecting us all and the community at large. Teen pregnancy exists in our society due to the
dominant culture that sends teens damaging messages about sexuality other reasons include: contraception failure, being drunk, feeling pressured to
have unprotected sex or getting caught up in the moment. While the choice to be sexually active is personal, there are several factors that influence
pregnancies in the teenage populations. There are external and internal factors that contribute to this problem. Internal factors include conformity,
interests and the role of the parent. For instance, external factors include peer pressure from peers and partners, the glamorization of pregnancy through
the media and how pregnancy has become iconic in schools and in communities has led to this prominent crisis. Other factors that have contributed to
this problem are abstinence–only sex education programs, unwanted sexual intercourse and the fact that many teens are clueless about the different
methods of contraception.
There is a wide variation of causes that give rise to teenage pregnancy, which consists of family, community and social dysfunctions. The U.S. has the
highest frequency of teen pregnancy. However, there is an extensive geographic disparity in teenage pregnancy across the United States. The Northeast

Teenage Pregnancy Issues
Teenage pregnancy is an emerging global issue that affects sustainable development. Not only do the developing countries face this challenge but also
the developed counties at large. Adolescent pregnancies challenge the moral and ethical sensibilities in most states and as researchers try to define the
cause of teenage pregnancies. Sustainable development is necessary for the successful development of any nation. Therefore adolescent pregnancies
become a societal` challenge that needs to be addressed efficiently. Teenagepregnancy is defined as the pregnancy that occurs in females below the
age of twenty years (Leishman and Moir ). Depending on the situation, adolescent pregnancies can either be planned for or unplanned, but according to
research most of the pregnancies are usually unwanted. According to statistics, although the number of teenage pregnancies is gradually decreasing, it
is still calculated that for every five girls, two will get pregnant before the age of nineteen. The US is the most extensively developed country with
high cases of teenage pregnancy; it was identified that more than 850,000 girls get pregnant every year and around 500,000 carry the pregnancy to term
(Coleman). Notably, most of the societal issues are usually blamed on teenage pregnancy; for instance, single parenting, poverty, drug abuse, crime
among other social problems. Over the recent years, there has been an overemphasis on preventing teenage pregnancy itself rather than addressing the

In the 1950s, the frequency of teenage births in the United States was already high, and since that, time has decreased, although the number of births
outside marriage has increased. Thus, in 1990 the rate was 61.8 births, pregnancy rate – 116.9 per 1,000. The incidence of teenage pregnancy has
decreased significantly in the 1990s. This decline is observed in all racial groups, but Teenagers, African Americans and Hispanic teens remain higher
frequency compared with Americans of European and Asian origin. Guttmacher Institute, about 25% of this decline carried her share of sexual

for example, reducing the number of abortions or a decrease in the number of abortions.

Just because teenage pregnancy has decreased does not mean the problem is solved. Nearly all teenage pregnancies are unplanned. Teen mothers are
nearly twice as likely to forgo prenatal care in the first trimester. This sets up complications along with health problems, costs, responsible fatherhood,
education, and risky behavior. Babies are having babies before they're even fully developed themselves; the environment, and media along with other
things are all factors that determine why and how teens are getting pregnant.
Teen pregnancy is the result of many environmental factors. When I speak about environmental factors I'm referring to the people teens surround
themselves with along with their socioeconomic mobility. The most significant environmental factor contributing to teenage pregnancy are related to
poverty. Did you know that teenage girls in poverty chose to give birth because they had no realistic hope for moving up in life? Not only does social
status effect teens who get pregnant in poverty situations their education is interrupted also. Most teens don't go back to even get their GED, which
results in more complications when trying to get a job etc. Another factor is the people teens surround themselves with. Teens are influenced by what
they watch and hear other people do which is normal because even as teens their minds and self–being is still being developed. On top of all that teens

daughter named Leah Leann Shirley with her boyfriend Gary Shirley. Amber is one of the most controversial characters on the show, she used
physical violence against her boyfriend Gary in front of her daughter. In one case, she left permanent scars on Gary. Amber lost custody of her
daughter after being arrested for domestic violence. She served a five–year sentence from December 2011 arrest for drug possession and failing to

Hopefully in the long run the number of teen and unplanned pregnancies will decrease but in my opinion this show would not have a big impact of
helping preventing them. It's because the show portrays girls from different parts of the country, different family settings, some supportive and some

The Effects Of Teenage Dating Violence And Abusive...
Teen–dating violence happens to be one of the most common forms of violence, and it can be influenced from families, peers, or internal issues.
Usually, domestic violence takes place in relationships of people between the ages of sixteen to twenty–four. According to a survey conducted by the
Center for Disease Control, about four million women are abused each year by their partners and forty percent of teens ages fourteen to seventeen
report that they know someone their age who is being abused by their partner. Abuse can have negative impacts on you physically and mentally and
there are multiple different types of abuse. This paper explores the negative effects of teenage dating violence and abusive relationships among
adolescents, and how these types of relationships can affect the human mind and cause psychological and mental issues. The Three Evils This theme
shows that there are three main types of abuse, some common and some not so common. These three evils include physical, emotional, and sexual
abuse. Physical abuse is the most common. It includes hitting, kicking, punching, and even use of weapons. Emotional abuse is also extremely
common, and most of the time the victims are unaware that it is even happening. This includes name–calling, insults, humiliation, blaming the victim
for everything, stalking, controlling your partner, and even jealousy. The third type of abuse, which is not as common, but is still a major issue, is
sexual abuse. This could be forcing your

According to a child help a report of child abuse is made every 10 seconds. According to Dr. Azziz "many abused children develop attachment problems
in the future" (National Child Traumatic Stress Network– 2014). Unwanted pregnancy can also lead to child abuse because of the mother not desiring
to bear responsibility of having to child to begin with. Dubner and Levitt authors of Freakonomics present unconventional wisdom that "when a
woman does not want to have a child, she usually has good reason. She may be unmarried or in a bad marriage. She may consider herself too poor
to raise a child. She may think her life is too unstable or unhappy, or she may think that her drinking or drug use will damage the baby's health. She
may believe that she is too young or hasn't yet received enough education. She may want a child badly but in a few years, not now. For any of a
hundred reasons, she may feel that she cannot provide a home environment that is conducive to raising a healthy and productive child" (F–Levitt &
Dubner). Levitt and Dubner's realization that the legalization of through the Roe vs. Wade trial contributed to their belief thatabortion led to a drastic
decrease in crime. Furthermore, "Legalized abortion appears to account for as much as 50 percent of the recent drop in crime" (F–Levitt & Dubner).

Why males were ever excluded from the way we think about pregnancy prevention is puzzling," write the authors of the recent report Involving Males
in Preventing Teen Pregnancy. "Sexual behavior involves two partners." Relegating fertility and family to the world of women, the authors write, "has

The report continues that it is well known that adolescent boys initiate sex earlier than girls. But "contrary to stereotypes about males' disregard for
contraception," the authors say, overwhelming evidence shows that for many years teenage boys have played a key role in providing contraception. In
addition, this pattern has improved steadily over the last few decades. These shifts in behavior, the researchers conclude, suggests that pregnancy

Teenage Dating Violence And How It Has Effects
Purpose
This paper is to research teen dating violence and how it has or will impact many young women's lives. How dating violence in today's society plays
important role in relationship among teens, while adolescence should be aware that victimization take place a lot with and abusive partner. While it can
have an emotional attachment behavior with adolescence, and while interviewing Jamie Morris on her abusive relationship. Adolescence need to
understand that there is preventive measure that they can take to get out or be aware that they are in violent relationship.
Attachment Theory & Emotional Attachment theory was introduced by John Bowlby. Bowlby believed the strong relationship between parent and
child which would give the child a since of secure attachment with the parent. Which would then have the child comfortable with the parent or the
caregiver that has positive impact on life. "Children with a history of secure attachment are more likely than those without this sort of attachment to
manifest many positive personal characteristic including resilience, self–reliance, empathy, social interest, and ability to form close intimate
relationships" (Linda Seligman, 2014). With Bowlby research it shows that if child has positive characteristic in their life that it will build them to
have better personality skills as a teen. Which will lead a person to make healthier decision. With children they are also faced with avoidant when the

Teen Pregnancy : A Social Issue
Teen pregnancy is a very controversial social issue and the vast majority of Americans consider the outrageous rate of teen pregnancies a severe issue,
certainly a problematic occurrence that is believed to be a moral decline in our country. Teenagers are physiologically capable of reproducing but not
emotionally or financially prepared to be parents at such a tender age. Through various research studies a plethora of determinants has pin pointed teens
unprecedented pregnancies. One cause of this problem is the apparent indication of social separation or disadvantage. Within this issue you would find
poverty, single parent households, educational disadvantages on the parents behalf, a lack family/parental support, and unemployment. A child's
educational performance, inappropriate sexual acts, and inferior apprehensions about their futures play a vital role in teen pregnancies as well.
Amongst the listed disadvantages the three that take precedent are lacks of family communication, sexual abuse, and poverty. Furthermore, teen
mothers do not fit the ideal ideology of the normative scheduling of motherhood, therefore, ultimately resulting in negative consequences for them and
society. What needs to be understood is, as to why the numbers of teens are becoming parents at such a vernal age. There has been a multitude of
assumptions as to why there have been a soaring number of teens living in poverty becoming pregnant. Younger women experiencing poverty,

Infant Simulators Role In Reducing Teenage Pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy takes place when a female under the age of 20 falls pregnant.
Boonstra (2011) identified that moderate rates of teenage pregnancy occur in Australia with 43.7 pregnancies per 1000 teenage girls. This is a
significant contemporary issue as there are larger risks involved with teenage pregnancy including health, financial and social implications (Brinkman
et al, 2016), creating larger socio–economic problems for young parents, their children and society (Zhou et al, 2016). To reduce the numbers of
teenage pregnancy and raise awareness various sex education systems are placed to manage incidences of pregnancy.

Teenage Pregnancy And Teen Pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy has been famously depicted as a situation that involves the female adolescents. For one to be dubbed as a pregnant teenager, she
ought to be at the early age of twelve years though in most scenarios it has been fourteen and older. In the developed as well as developing countries,
the cause of the teenage pregnancy has been common with most of them being related to the specific situation of the teenager as well as the group that
the teenager interacts with. However, the rate of the teenage pregnancy has been varying from one nation to another nation and has been related to the
variance of the sexual activities, general sex education as well as contraceptives that are accessible to the teenagers (Atkinson, et al, 2016). In ... Show

Once the population of the pregnant teenagers is compared with all the teenagers, the once who have been seen to be susceptible to getting pregnant
are more likely to have come from the poor or the low–income families and those who ends up giving birth having come from the disadvantaged
background (Putnam–Hornstein, et al, 2016).
One of the situations that have been seen to be common in southern California is that poorer teenagers have always not been experienced sexually as
teenagers from the advantaged families, though they have been much likely to become pregnant once they engage in the sexual practice. The teenagers
that have been hailing from the families that are financially stable have been more likely in terminating the pregnancy once they discover it as
compared to those from the disadvantaged families where the teenagers have been opting to wait for delivery s they cannot support the termination of
the pregnancy. It is a factor that has been supported by the proof of nearly seventy percent of the high–income adolescents who become pregnant
ending up in aborting. The figure is very high as compared to that of the poor and low–income families that rage between 20 to 30 percent
(Putnam–Hornstein, et al, 2013).
The socioeconomic factor has been affecting the education of the people directly and hence facilitating the cases of teenage pregnancy. It is this aspect
that the pregnant teenagers who are the parents have been more

The Factors Of Teenage Pregnancy
Teenage pregnancy is normally identified as a deprived life choice, for example, tasks of teenage parenting have long–term impact on the mental health
of the mother and children (Statistics New Zealand, 2003). It is important to identify the socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy to lower the
chances of mental health problems in young mothers. In this paper the aim is to analyse the main socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy and
discuss how it affects the mental health of an adolescent mother in New Zealand. This essay will commence by identifying how a lack of education is
considered as a socioeconomic factor associated with teenage pregnancy, followed by the second theme which will consist of economic circumstances
such as, parental unemployment and welfare dependency. Lastly, this essay will discuss how deficiency of support fromfamily and friends leads to
unstable relationships, which has a huge impact on a teenage mother's mental health. A lack of education is one of the main socioeconomic factors
which impact the mental health of an adolescent mother. Studies show a number of negative outcomes that are linked with dropping out of school at
an early age. For example, youth that tends to gain fewer educational qualifications are more likely to be in unstable relationships resulting in a lack of
knowledge regarding contraceptive use which leaves them to deal with economic circumstances (Breheny & Stephens, 2008; Friesen, Woodward,

It is sad to say, but we are living in a world where there is no safe haven from the violence of this cold and cruel world. As we have seen in the past
gun violence has happened in schools, church, and places of business. This lets me know that it does not discriminate and nothing and nobody is off
limits. Sometimes I wonder will it ever end. It is like society just seems to be growing numb to the human loss and suffering especially within the
black community. It is like we are at war with ourselves. There are many different factors that can be blamed for this problem. However, I am a firm
believer that we can turn away from violence and rebuild our communities, but we must first start with the respect of human life. Somewhere along the
way we have disregarded that. We must come together and take back our communities from the evil and fear that comes with all of this gun violence
and senseless acts of crime.
One major problem that we face today is our media bombarded society. Former President Barack Obama explicitly argued the health case against gun
violence. Calling guns "one of the greatest threats to public health," he wrote in the New York Times, "Every year, more than 30,000 Americans have

them good advice but then there is the down side when they put pressure on their friends to do something like to smoke, drink, and do drugs. In most
cases they tell their friends how to dress and act when around certain people. Love relationships just make it even harder for a teenager to get a good

Close family ties are an important bond for each member of the family. A guy who wants to date a girl must ask for her parents' permission. In case
no permission is granted, it is highly unlikely for the date to actually happen, unless in some cases that the girl and guy sneak out and date out
secretly. However, this is morally unacceptable in Philippine culture. Filipino parents are very strict with their children having romantic
relationships. Brothers are generally protective of their sisters. Even cousins and other relatives are protective of their young female cousins and
relatives. They become more lenient when their daughters, sisters and relatives reach the legal age of 18. When picking up the girl at her home

Beginning in the 1960s, "a combination of social, demographic , and political factors...led to the conclusion that an epidemic of teenage pregnancy
existed " and federal action was required (Lawson and Rhode 40). Prior to the 60s, marriage was seen as the solution to adolescent pregnancy. Young
men would enter the work force and were expected to provide for their family. Young women would take on the role of homemaker and mother.
Beginning in the 1960s, it became commonplace for women to obtain full–time employment outside of the home. Women were able to support
themselves and their children. During these changing times, if a teenage girl had to drop out of high school to raise a child, she would be at a
disadvantage because obtaining a career meant at the very least one had to have a high school diploma. The 1970's saw the legalization of abortion. "In
1971, teenagers between 15 and 19 obtained 150,000 legal abortions" and in 1973 that number nearly doubled (Lawson and Rhode 39). Policy makers
(especially pro–life factions) saw an urgent need to create and support adolescent parenting programs such as the Adolescent Family Life Program
(Lawson and Rhode 39). The research branch of Planned Parenthood fanned the public's concern with the pamphlet: 11 Million Teenagers: What Can
Be Done About the Epidemic of Adolescent Pregnancies in the United States ("11 Million Teenagers:..." 64). At that time, out of wedlock pregnancies
were highly stigmatized and policies were not geared toward family planning, but rather on the care of pregnant mothers and their children. The

Ten Great Public Health Achievements In The 20th Century
I chose to add Teen Pregnancies to the "Ten Great Public Health Achievements in the 20th Century." I've chosen this because teenagers ranging from

There are a number of variations and trends when it comes to teen pregnancy. Teen birth rates differ by racial and ethnic group and religion, for

Child Behavior: Then and Now
Child behavior has been an ongoing controversial topic for years now. Child behavior has without a doubt gotten worse over the years. Statistics have
proven that juvenile behavior has become increasingly worse due to things such as crime rates, teen pregnancies, unemployment rates, and more.
Today, children are more defiant and rebellious than they were years ago. Crime rates andhigh school dropout rates have proven this theory to be
correct. Now a days these rates are increasing due to children being spoiled and lack of attention. Many may say that high school dropout rates could
be debatable being that in 1979, it was 5 % but, now it's only 3.4% (Zhao). While the trend appears promising, the worse part is that there were about
three million sixteen to twenty–four year olds in October 2009 who were neither enrolled in high school nor had earned a high school diploma
(Zhao). These dropout rates were high and increase each year due to things like early pregnancy, bad behavior, or being behind in classes. Crime rates
are a huge contribution as to why children are behaving the way they do now. Unfortunately, teen death rates have not decreased, but now homicides,
suicides, and car collisions are responsible for 75% of all teenage deaths today (Harper). In fact, over the last two decades, teen violent crime rates
have grown almost twice as quickly as adult crime rates (Levitt). In 2010, there were two hundred and twenty–five arrests for Violent Crime

because of the way it affects a country's economy, the mother and father's future, the baby's quality of life, and the parent's extended family and

(Office of Adolescent Health, 2016). The statistics also show that approximately 77% of teenage pregnancies in the United States were unplanned and
that almost sixty percent of teenage pregnancies result in a live birth while almost another thirty percent end in abortion. (Office of Adolescent Health,
2016).
Risk Factors
Additionally, research has found that there are a variety of factors that are associated with a teenager becoming pregnant. Teenagers who are
continuously enrolled in school, get good grades, and participate in after school activities are less likely to become pregnant. Adolescents whose
parents were also pregnant during their teenage years and whose highest educational level is a high school degree are also more likely to become
pregnant. (Office of Adolescent Health, 2016). The community also has an impact on teenage pregnancy rates, teenagers who live in affluent areas
where there are plenty of employment opportunities available are less likely to become pregnant than teenagers who live in poorer neighborhoods
where employment opportunities are more scarce or non–existent. (Office of Adolescent Health, 2016).
Experiencing abuse, neglect, and being placed in foster care are additional factors that have been associated with increased teenage pregnancy risk.
Research has shown that for teenagers who experienced poverty, 16.8% percent became pregnant before they reached

Most people see teenage pregnancy and view it as a growing epidemic that is going on throughout the United States. According to the Center on Budget

Title: Sex Education and Birth Control should be enforced to prevent Teenage Pregnancies
"Approximately one million teens get pregnant and give birth every year in the United States. Eighty percent of those births are to unmarried teens
(ProQuest Staff)". TeenagePregnancy is when a mentally immature female adolescent under the age of nineteen is pregnant. Pregnant Teenagers
would have to face many consequences and problems because they are physically and mentally unprepared to have babies. The teenagers' futures
would be limited because they would have to quit high school to care for their babies and it have been proven that the adolescents would mostly be
poor when they become adults. They would also be prone to health problems like high blood pressure, premature birth, postpartum depression, STDs,
etc. The teenagers would not be the only that would be affected, their babies would also be affected because it might be born premature and there is
a high possibility that he or she would have a low birth rate. Most children that were born by teenagers do worse in school than other children born
from adults. Teenage Pregnancy should be prevented because it does not have any positive affects to the people in the United States. It could be
prevented by enforcing sex education and birth controls because it would make adolescents more aware about the consequences and the birth pills
would stop unsafe sex and

Teenage Dating Violence And Prevention

  • 1. Teenage Dating Violence And Prevention "Nearly 1.5 million high school students across the country experience physical violence at the hands of a dating partner each year" (Duret). Teenage dating violence is on the rise. Due to recent advances in technology, abuse issues are more prevalent; technology allows room for students to lash out over text messaging and through social media. However, teen violence can be prevented. The government has established laws and campaigns to educate and protect victims. Teenagers go through many changes during their adolescent years and peer influence can make it hard to decipher between right and wrong. However, by high school, teenagers should be able to determine and understand healthy relationships; unfortunately, teenage dating violence statistics continue to rise at alarming rates. Teenage dating violence can be physical, sexual and/or physiological abuse. In the article, "There's a Fine Line... Adolescent Dating Violence and Prevention," author Judith Herrman explains "dating violence is the occurrence of physically, sexually and/or emotionally violent episodes in an intimate, interpersonal relationship" (Herrman 164). The violent relationship includes a victim along with a perpetrator. Adolescent years are a major stage of development for teenager and the inconsistency of teenage relationships is the reason teenage dating violence is on the rise. Dating violence can occur regardless of religion, ethnicity or socio–economic background. Domestic violence usually first occurs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Economic Consequences Of Teen Moms recognizes their moms struggle and for the most part are comprising. Through our lives we developing numerous life skills that are used to help with our problem solving skills and other challenges. Since, teen moms are adolescence themselves they like adult experiences and knowledge such as budgeting, and educational qualifications. Children who come from poor household tend to fall in a cycle of violence or emotional stress. Teen moms either have a high school diploma or equivalent which can only get them a job to stay within the the poor population. Majority of teen moms stop at high school because college isn't ideal financially. The less educated background a mom has the more likely their children will fall into the unskilled workforce and negatively affect the economy. Asadolescence this discourages children to socially active and participant in extra curriculum activities. "Affluent individuals are more likely to have the social bridges and networks that collectively benefit children by giving them access to a wider array of resources. Unfortunately, social and economic changes of the past decade resulted in exodus of many affluent individuals and families from the urban centers. (Atkins, Hart, pg.159)." Since, the neighborhoods are full of crime most professional and qualified advocates aren't willing to risk their safety. Therefore, if there are any extra festivities going on they aren't local or affordable for a teen mom. Economic consequences of being a teen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Does Reality Shows Prevent Or Promote Teen Pregnancy? Does Reality Shows Prevent or Promote Teen Pregnancy? Reality shows that are based on teen pregnancy like 16 and Pregnant and Teen Mom sheds light about the troubles on becoming a teen parent, finishing high school and struggling to buy the baby's need and wants. Lately, these shows are stirring a debate if they are trying to support or avoid teen pregnancy. And this topic is important to the public, because it relates to the young community's future. Young girls and boys can watch these shows and have different outlooks about having a child. Sometimes, glamorizing teen pregnancy on television might confuse the young community, because they can be fickle at times. They might think it is acceptable to be pregnant so young and others will consider waiting until marriage. Reality shows can either encourage or discourage teen pregnancy based on the individual's mentality. Firstly, young girls who watch the shows might want to be pregnant in order to be famous. In her Opposing Viewpoints article, Kroll said, "This created a media frenzy. These girls became celebrities in what seemed to be overnight". Some girls might have a gullible misconception about the teen parents on the shows. They do not know that they have to handle the hardships on taking care of a child along with having the "fame and fortune" lifestyle. Additionally, young girls might think it is alright to be treated unfairly because it is being televised. The cameras are capturing moments that contains domestic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Growing Problem of Teenage Violence in Schools Today... The Growing Problem of Teenage Violence in Schools Today There is a growing problem with teenage violence today in school. The problem is teenagers are getting more and more violent. Many of them resort to violence as a way to deal with anger and stress. Most of teenage violence starts with the so called thugs who think they rule the school. Not just the thugs but anybody in general who thinks they can beat up on people and act all tough and push everyone around. Another source of this violence is the outcasts or nerds that the bullies pick on because they're different, but the worst type of violence is racism, like Nazis who hate people because of there race, religion, or there sexual preference. This violence may be coming from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like, if al your older brothers and sisters smoke pot, and all of your cousins smoke pot, that person will most likely smoke pot eventually, at least once, so this could possibly cause violence behavior also. Music also plays a factor in violence at school is the music a person listens to. I don't think that just because someone has a Metalica c.d. is violent, or everyone with a Dave Mathews Band c.d. is not violent, but if your listening to some body singing about killing, or beating somebody, that might just encourage somebody to do it by listening to other people doing it. One last reason for violence is TV. role models. If you look up to 2Pac, you may grow up to not care at all, because of his violent movies, and teenagers may think that if you die by a gun, it is honorable to die the same way 2Pac did, but most people don't not get shot for no reason, so they will start fights with people. If you look up to The Rock, or other wresters, you may grow up wrestling and punching for fun with your friends, and then you grow up fighting, so this will lead to violent aggressions if someone ticks you off one day, so you will bash some guy's head in who slept with your girlfriend. As you can see violence problem in school, one possible salutation to this problem, is to legalize marijuana and urge students to smoke before school and in the bathrooms. It's really not that outrageous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Teen Dating Violence : Teenage Dating Teen Dating Violence Dawn Brown, Verronica Flowers, Michelle Marcak, Lisa Sprouse Dr. Brinda Mckinney, Instructor Arkansas State University NRS 3333 Women 's Health August 12, 2016 Teen Dating Violence In 2013, the National Youth Risk Behavior Survey reported that 21% of female and 10% of male high school students experienced some form of physical and/or sexual dating violence. It was also reported that youth who are victims of dating violence in high school are at greater risk of victimization during college (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2016). The purpose of this paper is to bring awareness to this very serious, yet preventable, public health issue and to serve as a comprehensive source of knowledge on the subject of teen dating violence. This paper will address the three types of dating violence, risk factors, warning signs, screening tools for health care providers to use, and the downfall of negative health effects that could happen when a teen becomes victim to dating violence. The ultimate goal is prevention of teen dating violence, however, it is also imperative that the proper resources be easily accessible to those already affected. This can be done by assessing the problem and providing the right education to empower teens to allow them to feel safe in all situations. Unhealthy relationships can start early and last a lifetime. Teens often think some behaviors, like teasing and name calling, are a "normal" part of a relationship. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Teenage Pregnancy Among African Americans Teenage Pregnancies among Blacks and Hispanics 11/09/2012 Tina Trent TEENAGE PREGNANCY AMONG BLACK & HISPANIC GIRLS Birth rates in African American and Hispanic teens are substantially higher than whites, a trend that has persisted for decades. Even thoughpregnancy rates among teens are at an all time low. It is still a major issue but mostly affecting the urban communities. In this research paper I will be comparing and demonstrating the relationships between teenage pregnancy, social issues, and education. It is suggested that identifying young girls with academic and social emotional difficulties early on and intervening could have a positive impact on reversing teen adolescent behaviors such as teen pregnancy. (Goddings, Anne–Lise1,2 Burnett Heyes, Stephanie2,3,4 Bird, Geoffrey2,5 Viner, Russell M.1 Blakemore, Sarah–Jayne, 2002) In conclusion according to the data that was obtained it seems that both women are led to believe they are less than the white race per se. They are led to believe that it is natural to be looked at as statistics in society. These young women have lack of education on top of it all and need to be taught not only the proper skills needed to prevent pregnancy but taught that they are better than statistics and can excel at anything any other race can. As parent and teachers we need to spend more time with our children so they are not out engaging in negative risky behaviors. It is our responsibility! We are the adults, not the children. We must not wait until it is to late. It has become critical that we look into the underlying reasons so that we can get a better handle on this matter. • 9. The Positive Impacts Of Teen Pregnancy And Abortion In The... The United States has been recognized as the country with the highest rate of teen pregnancy and abortions for many years. Although a baby is seen as a beautiful blessing, teenage pregnancy has many negative effects, such as lack of financial & emotional stability, delayed education, unemployment, poverty, and even worse increased risk for medical complications. Teenagepregnancy and abortions have been in decline over the years due to increased knowledge about sexual health, use of contraceptives, and abstinence. In most households parents avoid having conversations about sex. The reality is that most teens these days are not waiting until marriage to have sex. It is only right that parents educate them about sex. There is a lot of information that is not taught in sexual education or that google cannot provide answers to. As a result, most kids are curious and they go out into the world and learn on their own. In recent years, teen pregnancy have declined. However, the United States is still the country that has the highest teen pregnancy rates. Although the rates have declined significantly, teen pregnancy is still a major social problem because girls are getting pregnant every day. In 2011, statistics concluded that more than 400,000 girls ages 15–19 were giving birth each year in the United States. Teen prgenancy effects the mother, father, child, and community due to emotional, phyiscal, and financial costs (Vitalsigns, 2011). Society works together to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Social Class As A Way That Constrains Someone 's Life... America is a country that has been founded on the myth of equality and opportunity. The "Horatio Alger" myth, which states that people who work hard will survive and thrive in America, has passed away to the notion of generational privilege (Alger, 1910). Economic inequality absolutely exists in America today, and the social class into which an individual is born affects their life chances and opportunities for social mobility to a stunning and upsetting degree. In this essay, I will argue that the evidence points to the strong, overwhelming role of social class as a way that constrains someone's life chances and opportunities for social mobility. I will show how income inequality creates segregation, unequal access to education and health care, and puts poor people at higher risk of violent crime, and all of these factors together underscore the deep urgency and unfairness with respect to income inequality in the United States. People in America hate to talk about social class, and part of the reason for this is that they rarely even interact with people who belong to other social classes. One recent study found that "...the growth in income inequality from 1970 to 2000 affected patterns of income segregation along three dimensions: the spatial segregation of poverty and affluence, race– specific patterns of income segregation, and the geographic scale of income segregation" (Reardon & Bischoff, 2011, p. 1092). This means that the more incomes stratify, the less people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Effects Of Sexual Violence On Teenage Girls Essay Purpose: The research study that was done by Decker, Raj, and Silverman which focused on the impacts of sexual violence in teenage girls. This research study hits on a major social issue that happens throughout society that has been going for many decades now, it emphases whether or not immigration and acculturation are related factors in sexual violence amongst this age group. Sexual Violence and victimization is a topic that we study on in the school of social work at Ryerson, as we take an anti–oppressive approach to social issues that happen around the world. Violence against women has been a topic explored by several researchers over the years. Unfortunately, they never studied sexual violence against adolescent girls who come from immigrated families. Violence against women can happen in many different forms such as physical, sexual, emotional or psychological (The Line, 2016). As social workers, we need to make sure that the service users have access to all the services that they need "spanning outreach, primary and secondary prevention education, medical advocacy, legal services, and crisis counseling, to meet the needs of immigrant adolescents experiencing sexual assault." (Decker, Raj, & Silverman, 2007). This study used a quantitative approach to research as this was just based on numerical data that was collected through small groups or done individually by participants. Quantitative analysis allows us to "to determine how thing affects another in a population." ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Teenage Pregnancy Essay Why is it important to understand how adverse childhood experiences create risk factors that can impact teenage pregnancy? The answer is multifaceted and complex, but an important consequence of teenage pregnancy is to the baby itself. Children of teenage mothers have more health issues, are more likely to be abused, be less educated, and more likely to become criminals (Hillis, et al., 2004, p. 2). Moreover, because teenage mothers are poorer and have less emotional support, children of teenage mothers are more likely to be abused both physically and emotionally (Rosenberg, 2001, p. 185). Consequently, by understanding how adverse childhood events can increase teenage pregnancies and its risk factors, education could be implemented to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1610). However, Widom and Kuhns observed that there is no correlation between physical abuse and teenage pregnancies (p. 1609). Men that witnessed maternal battery as children also have an increased risk of impregnating a teenage girl. Men that grew up witnessing constant abuse against their mother are twice as prone to getting a teenage girl pregnant as men that did not witness maternal abuse (Rosenberg, 2001, p. 184). Overall, when men grew up in households where there was repeated maternal abuse, 11% of men in the survey impregnated teenage girls (Rosenberg, 2001, p. 184). Childhood abuse is not the solitary contributing factor in teenage pregnancy, duration, multiple abuses, and frequency similarly contribute (Rosenberg, 2001, pp. 184–185). According to Rosenberg men who as children had recurrently experienced or witnessed maternal abuse were twice as likely to impregnate a teenager (pp. 184–185). Furthermore, men who as children experienced two or more types of maltreatment were more than twice as apt to impregnate a teenage girl (Rosenberg, 2001, pp. 184–185). Significantly, the odds ratio for adolescent pregnancy radically and incrementally raised as exposure to childhood abuse increased (Hillis, et al., 2004, p. 5). Childhood abuse, according to Widom and Kuhns is not a predetermining factor in teenage pregnancies. Instead they say there are additional variables that were never eliminated and ... • 13. The Socio Economic Factors Of Teenage Pregnancy Teenage pregnancy is normally identified as deprived life choice, for example, tasks of teenage parenting have long–term impact on the mental health of the mother and children (Statistics New Zealand, 2003). It is important to identify the socio economic factors of teenage pregnancy to lower the chances of mental health problems in young mothers. In this paper the aim is to analyse the main socio economic factors of teenage pregnancy and discuss how it affects the mental health of an adolescent mother in New Zealand. This essay will commence by identifying how a lack of education is considered as a socio economic factor associated with teenage pregnancy, followed by the second theme which will consist of economic circumstances such as, parental unemployment and welfare dependency. Lastly, this essay will discuss how deficiency of support fromfamily and friends lead to unstable relationships, which has a huge impact on a teenage mother's mental health. A lack of education is one of the main socio economic factors which impact the mental health of an adolescent mother. Studies show a number of negative outcomes that are linked with dropping out of school at an early age. For example, youth that tend to gain fewer educational qualifications are more likely to be in unstable relationships resulting in a lack of knowledge regarding contraceptive use which leaves them to deal with economic circumstances (Breheny & Stephens, 2008; Friesen, Woodward, Fergusson, Horwood, & ... Most gangs claim neighborhoods as their territory and try to control everything inside that territory. This kind of antisocial behavior is a major problem in American Society. Gang members are typical members of the same ethnic group. Fear and hatred for people of another race is called xenophobia. People who are victims of racism are often racists themselves. • 16. Picture Perfect Family Analysis What I found interesting, in this chapter, is that the teenage birthrate was twice as high in 1957 than in the 1990's. This is actually quite surprising, given the "squeaky clean" image of the family structure at that time. The author does sight that abortions were not as accessible at that time as they are today, but considering that "picture perfect families" were depicted as the norm at that time, it would lead someone to believe that teenage sexual relations did not occur as often as they do today. Another reason this information surprises me is due to the comments, my friends and I were subjected to growing up, by middle aged adults who grew up during the 50's, regarding young unwed pregnant women. One comment in particular was along the lines of, "young girls these days...this was unheard of when I was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Are young women who see their mothers work more independent, driven and confident than those with mothers who stayed at home? Are these young women pushed towards careers by their parents, or do they just have a desire for financial independence? Do young woman who see their mothers stay at home, lack motivation or do they have a higher desire to nurture so therefore they have a job instead of a career? Sexual Education : Teenage Pregnancy And Teen Pregnancy Sexual Education In the future Sexual Education courses will prevent teen pregnancy and teen abortions as well as educate students about factors that can affect life such as the deadly disease AIDS and other STD's, inform youth about making smart choices about sex now and in the future, prevents accidental pregnancies, and assist in empowerment and awareness against sexual violence. According to the article "State Policies on Sex Education in Schools" only 15% of states offer sex education. That's approximately 8 out of 50 states that offer this course. And within those states there are only few high schools who offer these classes. Just like math, science, social studies, and reading, sexual education can benefit students outside the classroom as well. For example learning math can help a student count money when they purchase items, science can help in identifying chemicals when needed, social studies teaches students about history and how things were made, and reading teaches students how to speak, read and write correctly. Sexual Education is an instructive class or course that teaches students about human sexuality, including emotional and physical relations and responsibilities, human anatomy, sexual activity, sexual reproduction, reproductive health and rights, safe sex, birth control and other medications, STD's and sexual abstinence, which is obviously important to life, more specifically the body. • 18. An Ideal Age At Which Women Should Conceive Their First Child Introduction According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS, 2012), the age at which women have their first baby has consistently increased in recent decades. Cumulative research proposes that adolescent parenthood may impinge on childhood development because of a variety of factors, including psychological, biological and socio–contextual factors, and thus having children at an older age may be more beneficial for the child. This review seeks to examine whether there is an ideal age at which women should conceive their first child so as to ensure optimal development throughout childhood. Since 1972, the median age of women becoming first time mothers has gradually grown. Factors Influencing Development Shulz, Pruett, Kerig and Parke (2010) suggested that children who develop in a supportive and unchanging environment will have a greater opportunity to develop more socially in tune skills, have greater motivation to learn and increased physical capacity. Optimal development, therefore, can be influenced by a number of factors, especially including those of a biological, socio–contextual or psychological nature. Socio–Contextual Factors According to Carolyn Makinson (1985), other than the age of motherhood, the most influential factor in FTP is the availability of adequate financial resources. Generally, those first time mothers in their later years of life, such as in their late thirties, are likely to have a more stabilized financial situation as a result of recent feminist movements (Hill, K & Kaplan, H., 1999). As a result of these movements, many women are spending their younger years employed and pursuing career related goals, as opposed to being 'house mothers'. (Axmon, A., Rylander, L. & Hagmar, L., 2005) These changing social attitudes support and empower women, especially those of an older age, may prove to be more beneficial for childhood development (Cohen, 2013). • 19. Teen Pregnancy Problems I.Public Health Problem Teen pregnancy has become an issue in our society that is affecting us all and the community at large. Teen pregnancy exists in our society due to the dominant culture that sends teens damaging messages about sexuality other reasons include: contraception failure, being drunk, feeling pressured to have unprotected sex or getting caught up in the moment. While the choice to be sexually active is personal, there are several factors that influence pregnancies in the teenage populations. There are external and internal factors that contribute to this problem. Internal factors include conformity, interests and the role of the parent. For instance, external factors include peer pressure from peers and partners, the glamorization of pregnancy through the media and how pregnancy has become iconic in schools and in communities has led to this prominent crisis. Other factors that have contributed to this problem are abstinence–only sex education programs, unwanted sexual intercourse and the fact that many teens are clueless about the different methods of contraception. Not only do the developing countries face this challenge but also the developed counties at large. Adolescent pregnancies challenge the moral and ethical sensibilities in most states and as researchers try to define the cause of teenage pregnancies. Sustainable development is necessary for the successful development of any nation. Therefore adolescent pregnancies become a societal` challenge that needs to be addressed efficiently. Teenagepregnancy is defined as the pregnancy that occurs in females below the age of twenty years (Leishman and Moir ). Depending on the situation, adolescent pregnancies can either be planned for or unplanned, but according to research most of the pregnancies are usually unwanted. According to statistics, although the number of teenage pregnancies is gradually decreasing, it is still calculated that for every five girls, two will get pregnant before the age of nineteen. The US is the most extensively developed country with high cases of teenage pregnancy; it was identified that more than 850,000 girls get pregnant every year and around 500,000 carry the pregnancy to term (Coleman). Nearly all teenage pregnancies are unplanned. Teen mothers are nearly twice as likely to forgo prenatal care in the first trimester. This sets up complications along with health problems, costs, responsible fatherhood, education, and risky behavior. Babies are having babies before they're even fully developed themselves; the environment, and media along with other things are all factors that determine why and how teens are getting pregnant. Teen pregnancy is the result of many environmental factors. When I speak about environmental factors I'm referring to the people teens surround themselves with along with their socioeconomic mobility. The most significant environmental factor contributing to teenage pregnancy are related to poverty. Did you know that teenage girls in poverty chose to give birth because they had no realistic hope for moving up in life? Not only does social status effect teens who get pregnant in poverty situations their education is interrupted also. Most teens don't go back to even get their GED, which results in more complications when trying to get a job etc. Another factor is the people teens surround themselves with. Teens are influenced by what they watch and hear other people do which is normal because even as teens their minds and self–being is still being developed. It is important to identify the socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy to lower the chances of mental health problems in young mothers. In this paper the aim is to analyse the main socioeconomic factors of teenage pregnancy and discuss how it affects the mental health of an adolescent mother in New Zealand. This essay will commence by identifying how a lack of education is considered as a socioeconomic factor associated with teenage pregnancy, followed by the second theme which will consist of economic circumstances such as, parental unemployment and welfare dependency. Lastly, this essay will discuss how deficiency of support fromfamily and friends leads to unstable relationships, which has a huge impact on a teenage mother's mental health. Many may say that high school dropout rates could be debatable being that in 1979, it was 5 % but, now it's only 3.4% (Zhao). While the trend appears promising, the worse part is that there were about three million sixteen to twenty–four year olds in October 2009 who were neither enrolled in high school nor had earned a high school diploma (Zhao). These dropout rates were high and increase each year due to things like early pregnancy, bad behavior, or being behind in classes.
