So L. A Song Analysis
patdollard.com patdollard.com There are a ton of songs written out there about California, but for this article, I'll be focusing on songs related to
Los Angeles and Hollywood. Some of these tracks praise this city, while others portray the darker side of the City of Angels. So, while this was
hard to narrow down as well, I give you the top ten songs about L.A. and Hollywood. Number Ten: "So L.A." by The Motels. "So L.A." is a song
by The Motels, off of their 1982 album, All Four One. Lyrics include, "Jimmy cracked when he came out here / precious dream never seemed so
clear / now he practiced a thousand times / the city that should have been his that night" and "walk of the woman that came to say / she come and

The song begins, "he walked into a Mexican restaurant / looking for some pills / she shivered on Cahuenga and Yucca / she couldn't shake the
chills / an old man walked out of the greyhound station / where did my wallet go / and Jimmy searching lost and last seen / his mother will never know
/ he took the wrong way, the wrong way to Hollywood." The song continues, "a Babylon place where blondes die young / it's a g–string girl's revenge
/ young boys baiting on S&M and Highland for family men / the old soft shoe goes on and on / and the chumps are down for the count / and the
ones who last the longest get their screen test at Paramount." The song ends with, "a flash of nausea, a trembling hand / falling where we stood / in a
shallow doorway grave / lay me down in Hollywood." Essentially, this song describes the dark underbelly of

The Ritz–Carlton believes that they are "ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen" and further explain that, "the genuine care and comfort

corporate executives say they've started serving some drinks at lower rates in order to draw in locals, whom they further hope will book sales in there
additional services like events and overnight stays. "[They're] seeing a greater variety of people coming because [they're] competing with the local

conferences happening at the hotel. Guests are upset that the hotel restaurants and bars are filled with businessmen and women and are irritated that the
events held outside could be heard through their hotel rooms. Other reviews complained that the service wasn't up to

Persuasive Narrative Essay
Have you ever had one of those days where you never wanted it to end? All the joy comes spilling out of you and you don't want it to stop? Well, that
was the day I didn't know I had. As I roused out of my sleep, I heard somebody rushing up the stairs and opening my door. " Arlene, wake up we have
to leave soon!" My mom bellowed as I started to lift the blue blanket off myself. We were going to California today and I couldn't wait! I went and
packed my toothbrush, glasses, contacts, and whatever else I needed. As I rushed downstairs, I smelled the eggs my mom was making us as I
gave my luggage to my dad. I couldn't wait for this adventure to begin, but I didn't know how much fun I would really have! "Please fasten your
seatbelt the plane is about to land," the flight attendant addressed over the loudspeaker. I squealed as I put my headphones away and turned my
phone off. "Ahhhh, I can't believe we're about to land!" I told Armaan. While the plane was landing, we saw the Hollywood Sign, buildings, many
hills, and not to mention palm trees! "Wow, look at this view!" I exclaimed as the plane started to dart down at full speed. Finally, we were here. As
soon as I got out I felt a nice breeze, and I started to make my way out of the plane and to the baggage area. "I can't believe we're here!" Armaan
beamed while my dad went to go pick up a car. We found our bags and headed outside when the hot sun blazed right at me. "Mom, Dad can we go to

Essay about Hotel California: The Californian Lifestyle
"Hotel California" by The Eagles has been the recipient of much speculation since its release in 1976. Although many other interpretations exist
including some which claim this song to be referencing drugs, much evidence suggests that "Hotel California" is, at least partly, making a statement
about the lifestyle of drug and alcohol users particularly in the large cities of California. As with many songs, duality of meaning exists in "Hotel
California."
Since "Hotel California" debuted in the seventies, one can understand why the topic would be Californian drug–using lifestyle. "The scare tactics of the
1960s gave way to the contradictory messages of the late '70s and early '80s. Drugs became glamorous, without becoming better understood" ... Show

After examining the whole song, one can guess that the song makes the claim that marijuana is a drug that allows easy passage to worse drugs.
According to "a 1969 Gallup poll, only 4% of American adults said they had tried marijuana. Thirty–four percent said they didn't know the effects of
marijuana, but 43% thought it was used by many or some high school kids" (Robison); therefore, many individuals might not understand that
marijuana, as many claim today, leads to usage of more harmful substances. The speaker then sees a shimmering light as if he is about to die which
signifies the death of an old life and the birth of a new one. The temptation of drugs becomes too strong, so the speaker has to stop at the Hotel
California. The mission bell that sounds contrasts so with the topic of this song that the bell must symbolize the perversion of life by the drug–use in
California and elsewhere. "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell," furthers the idea of the death of an old life. Here, the speaker does not
really know whether or not his or her new life is going to be enjoyable in the end. As it turns out, the speaker's new life is hell. Then she lights up a
candle, or perhaps a joint since the place most likely has electricity in the seventies, and shows the speaker the way. Perhaps the woman is a
drug–dealer or a prostitute; ether one could lead a person to a lifestyle full of drugs and alcohol.
"Her mind is Tiffany–twisted, she got the Mercedes bends," (The Eagles)

Hotel California Informative Speech
Title: "You Can Check Out Anytime You Like, But You Can Never Leave"
General Purpose: To inform
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the song "Hotel California" by the Eagles.
Thesis: This morning, I am going to tell you a little bit of the background about the Eagles, the history of why the song was written, and the reasoning
behind my choosing this song.
Introduction
I.Attention Grabber: Have any of you ever heard of a song that has a different meaning than what you always thought it meant?
A.One of the most popular that I'm sure most of you have heard of is "Stairway to Heaven," and how played backwards, it sounds like it is a song of
Satan.
B.Well, the song I am talking about today, "Hotel California," is also a song that has a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From 1994–1996, the Eagles did a tour called Hell Freezes Over.
7.They sold 3.4 million tickets in all over this 2–year tour.
Transition: Out of all their success, "Hotel California" is one of their most popular songs, but also one of the most controversial.
II.There were and still are many different theories about the actual meaning and purpose behind "Hotel California."
A.One theory was that the song was Satanic, and that it was about the Devil and hell.
1.If you listen to some of the lyrics, you can see why people would think this.
2.The line "they stab it with their steely knives, but they just can't kill the beast" kind of sounds like it is talking about the devil.
3.The line "you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave" sounds like it is talking about hell.
4.The album cover also seems to be satanic to some people because of the creepy looking person in the background.
B.One hotel actually claimed that they deserved money from the song.
1.They said that the Eagles were in their hotel when they wrote the song and that the song was about their hotel.
2.The Eagles said they never stayed there, and the hotel never got their money.

Song Analysis Of 'Hotel California'
Everyone makes mistakes at some point in their lives. As an adolescent many are told to "learn from you mistakes," but an abundant amount of adults
do not tend to live by that. Many times, people are blinded by wealth, reputation, and success. Rather than making the right decisions, they disregard
their previous choices of action instead of learning from them. "Hotel California's" message is trying to revert its listeners back to their childhood
ways. The iconic track hit the music industry with its soulful lyrics and its innovative sound in 1976. The album as well as the song is titled "Hotel
California". In "Hotel California," The Eagles relay to the listener that if one takes the risk, they must suffer the consequences by using metaphor,
assonance, and imagery.
The Eagles use rhythmic patterns in their lyrics that further portrays the main characters feelings before and after he has to compensate. When The
Eagles sing, "She got the mercedes bends/She got a lot of pretty, pretty, boys that she calls friends," this connects the two sentences to help the listener
further understand how the main character noticed the odd quirks about the situations and actions of his peers (line 30).The use of assonance provides a
more indepth outlook about the leading woman in the song. Her situation was strange in the sense that her surroundings were very unlikely to achieve.
She seems to be substantially wealthy considering she is stranded in the middle of the desert without occupation.

Description Of The Road Trip
Road Trip It was the morning of July 5th, 2015. My alarm sounded off at around 4:30 AM telling me it was time to get ready and head out. I
grabbed my duffle bag full of clothes, got in my truck, and headed to my girlfriend's house who lives five minutes away. I pulled into the driveway
with excitement rushing through my body. She was standing there, all packed, wearing a Boston Red Sox hat. We had gone shopping the night
before for food and drinks we thought we needed. We had a cooler full of ice and piled everything up in there and placed it in the trunk of our car
along with our tent, blankets, and other miscellaneous items we were going to need. Multiple pillows lined the backseat, and a trashcan was placed on
the floor to collect our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Downstairs we picked up some breakfast that the hotel provided, checked out, and then got back on the road headed to Tennessee. It wasn't long until
we crossed the border into the Volunteer State, and the first big city we stopped in was Nashville. We parked in a garage and walked around for a
couple hours, taking everything in. stores lined Main Street, filled with cowboy boots and souvenirs that could draw anybody's attention.
Knowing that we were on a tight schedule, we bought a few souvenirs then were on our way to the last stop of the day. We know found ourselves
in the boondocks of Lebanon, Tennessee. I turned onto the dirt road that led to the campground we would be staying at. After taking almost twenty
minutes to set up our tent, we threw our air mattress inside and were forced to blow it up on our own, since the electric pump decided to short
circuit. The humidity was so heavy that I nearly passed out because of it, but we both managed to make it through the night safely with only a few
bug bites. We were on the road again in the morning heading to our next hotel in Arkansas. The landscape began to open up, and on either side I
could see fields of corn span for miles. After hundreds of miles, we made it to our next spot and got some much needed sleep. The next day, we
crossed over into Oklahoma. The landscape wasn't much different here, but this is where we met Route 66. We first visited the Route 66

What Is Kaiser's Legacy
The historic Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center (originally the Oakland Civic Auditorium), has been the focus of development plans ever since the
215,000–square–foot facility closed down in 2004. It's slated to become office space, but during its heyday, it hosted wrestling competitions, circuses
and Elvis Presley concerts; in 1962, it even welcomed Martin Luther King Jr. to commemorate the centennial of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Much like the facility itself, its namesake, Henry J. Kaiser, was an important cultural icon during the 20th century. His name is not just associated with

In fact, his prolificacy would later earn him the nickname "America's boldest, most spectacular entrepreneur."
After forming his first construction company in 1913, Kaiser worked on a number of infrastructural projects, building dams in California, establishing
Mississippi River levees and constructing hundred of miles of roads. Between 1931 and 1945, he also oversaw the development of the Hoover, Grand

However, he is most noted for his contributions to American shipbuilding during World War II, when he ran seven shipyards (the Kaiser Shipyards)

its keel was first laid.

My Trip From The Airport
My Trip to California
As we just finished going through the airport security my family and I were walking through Denver International Airport all I could here was the
chatter of people and the screeching of wheels on a person 's suitcase. I took a inhale of the smell and all I could smell is the subway we were next to.
As I kept walking I was confuzzled on where we were supposed to go, I asked my mom and she told me "We are going to Gate B45". As we got
there I was started to get hesitant because it was gonna be my first time on a plane! Then we heard the flight attendant say over the speaker "Now

The next day was pretty much the same, woke up,took a shower, and ate breakfast at the hotel. This time around we went so Seaworld! When we first
got there it was completely empty like barely anyone there, except workers of course. We bought our tickets and went on. The first thing my
family and I did was go watch the Seal show. It was actually really funny, we sat in the "Splash Zone" and the seals splashed so much water all over
us and it got all of our stuff wet. Next, my brother and I went to the humongous thrill rides, my favorite ride was the "Manta". When we got on I
was excited, I could hear the wheels squeaking and then we took off I could feel the wind in my face my hair was waving everywhere and I was
having so much fun on the Manta. When we got off I rushed back to line with my brother and said "We 're going on this again, I don 't care what you
say!" And he agreed. It was the same experience, fun, fast, chills, and much more. Later that day we met up to watch the dolphin show with my family.
We were waiting then all of a sudden we saw a bottlenose dolphin shoot out of the water and I was amazed. I couldn 't believe what all of these
dolphins could do! I was still shocked what these Dolphins could do. When we left I took a picture with the magnificent Dolphins of the show. Sea
world was on of the best and most amazing experiences of my trip to California.

Analysis Of Hotel California By The Eagles
I have always enjoyed music with strong, meaningful lyrics so this option was the obvious choice for my final. I find myself constantly listening to
music and have listened to "Hotel California" by The Eagles more times than I can count, making it another obvious choice for me. Although, when
reading through the lyrics the first time, I realized that I had never understood the song meaning and the theme it is intended to portray. It was
interesting to read through it with my own, as opposed to hearing the tone it receives when listening to the song. Not having the music helped me
understand the meaning of the lines better, letting the words sink in instead of them being sung quickly and then gone.
"Hotel California" takes on a relatively free form when analyzed as poetry. It contains a mostly consistent rhyme pattern throughout using an
A,A,B,B,C,C series, as many songs do. However, the meter of the song is less structured and has more variance throughout the stanzas. Each can carry
different numbers of syllables than the one before, depending on the part of the song. This is where the work loses its formality and is taken as free
verse. When reading through, the lyrics carry even more similar traits than those we look for when analyzing modern poetry including, general theme
and figurative language.
The theme of the song is rather interesting and I have heard many different theories about the meaning when discussing it with peers over the years.
One of the thoughts is

When we were checking into our room, I had to use the restroom so I was forced to use the communal hotel bathroom. If you know me then you
know in addition to hotel anxieties, I have public bathroom issues. I NEVER use them if I don't have to. After years of practice, I'm a camel so it's

Marble, marble everywhere! When I went in, I didn't have my camera so I went back later to snap up some pics. This is how much I enjoyed that

California Kid Ethos Pathos Logos
Alternative artist and songwriter,Rivers Cuomo of the band Weezer, in his song "California Kids" claims that by letting go of all of people's high
standards and just living a worry free life, then people's problems will come to an end. He develops his argument by first drawing illustrations between
a life that is stressful and one that is more relaxed, then he uses juxtaposition to emphasize the California lifestyle, and finally, he uses pathos to appeal
to people on an emotional level. Cuomo's purpose is to convince his audience to join him in shedding the persona and responsibilities of adulthood so
that they may be "California Kids." Throughout his song he creates a reassuring and uplifting tone for his audience, which are made up of people ...

For example, "In your bare feet In mid–January" most people when they think mid–January they think snow and having to wear many layers of
clothing because it is really cold, but the singers purpose of juxtaposing January and bare feet is to tempt the audience with a promise of a
relaxing, warm, and amazing alternative. In other words why be cold and miserable when you can be warm and happy, with your toes in the sand
even in the winter. This is a metaphor for why live a stressful life when you have options to change it. Another example is, "Swimming in the
mystery" which might refer to the Pacific Ocean that is a vast body of ocean. The singer's purpose is to tell his audience that they have to have to
take a leap of fate even though it can be scary, like the vast ocean. Changing your life for the better should always be a choice you should chose
because it is for your own benefit. In the music video it shows a portrait of Jesus Christ, who was resurrected, and a body of water, where Jesus Christ
was baptized, this can be symbolic for rebirth, something that the singer probably wants. The audience knows this because of the conveniently placed

The Eagles' Hotel California Full Analysis
Musically, Hotel California can be said to be the Eagles greatest accomplishment in their career. It can also be thought of as the album that gave a
complete concept of the Eagles. Each member of the band is contributing to the music and is playing a mixture of instruments. With this range usage of
the members, the album has a complete cohesive feel. During this time of the Eagles career, they had five members; Don Henley, Don Felder, Glenn
Frey, Joe Walsh andRandy Meisner. Like mentioned previously all members sang in this album, all members wrote and all members played which
allowed for the album to be a complete concept of the band.

time the song was released believed that it was satanic and devil–driven. A radical Christian church commented that the song referenced the Church of

Andy Wirth Speaks to Madeleine Brand of KCRW on the Recent Drought Phenomenon Andy Wirth recently spoke to Madeleine Brand of the
California based KCRW about the effects of drought on California ski resorts. Andy is a prominent personality in the resort industry; he is currently
the President and CEO of Squaw Valley Ski Holdings. In the interview held on July 30, 2015, Madeleine began by pointing that drought had forced
Californians to cut back on water usage by 27% compared to 2–years ago and placed scarcity of water as the number one concern in the minds of many
in the state. Andy Wirth told Madeleine that his resorts remained profitable and resilient in spite of 20% drop in visitor numbers due to the devastating
effects of what Stanford meteorologist call the ""ridiculously resilient ridge". The occurrence, according to Andy prevented the pressure system from
forming over the mountains, causing a reduction in the amount of precipitation that brings snow. Andy also affirmed that the mountain resorts under
his watch were more than capable of withstanding bad weather because some 4000 acres of skiing surface out of the possible 6,000 acres were still in
play. Some of the strategies Andy has proposed to keep the business viable include using modern techniques to manage snow and making more snow

Introduction:
The Basin of the Colorado River has been experiencing a severe water shortage for the past 16 years constantly. This river used to be large and flowing,
but now water levels have been decreasing, and as a person who lives in California I believe there needs to be something done. It begins with
California. There are seven states that use this river, but California is over using it. The river's main role is more of a boundary line to separate ... Show

This would create motivation for people to switch their lawns.Less Water Used
Solutions in Depth:
Better Runoff: California is a coastal state so it has an easy way to get rid of its sewage and runoff. They just have it get drained out into the Sea.
However, what if cities could reroute their pipelines into a treatment plant instead. With that many people in one area there is bound to be a lot of
wastewater. Why should all this water be wasted instead of being used? Though it doesn't sound very sanitary it is already being done not only there,
but in other places, such as Nevada and Arizona. Although, with the huge population there needs to be more treatment plants in order to keep up with
the amount of people living there. According to Gary Wockner, "Enough water flows into the ocean from Southern California's streets and sewers to
meet all of the area's water needs–that's right ALL of them (2015)."
Policies and Laws: Currently there is a policy being put into to place called the Watershed Management Initiative. Its goal is to clean up the quality
of the water in the regions. This can help find new sources of water rather than depend so heavily on the Colorado River. Accordingly, this initiative
may help lead to jumpstarts into new ways to sustain the Colorado's water levels. I believe California could look at ways other South West States are
using the water to figure out more policies to help ensure the River. From

Hotel California Poetic Devices
In the Eagles' song, Hotel California, the speaker describes their freedom in California before coming across this hotel with beautiful women.
Unfortunately for him, everything was not as it seems. The song is very light and cheerful in the beginning, hinting at themes of innocence. Although
later in the song, the hotel takes on a slightly darker look as the speaker discovers its real purpose. In the song, Hotel California, the use of poetic
devices to describe its themes of innocence and desire become prevalent. The use of metaphors show how the incoming insanity has seeped into the
hotel through the song's theme of desire, whereas the imagery shows the speakers depth of innocence in the beginning of the song. The poetic devices

The metaphors used in the song show this. In line twenty–seven, "Her mind is Tiffany–twisted, [...]." This metaphor means that the woman is obsessed
with desire for wealth; referring to her being twisted by Tiffany and Co. which is a posh jewelry company. This metaphor's meaning is important
because its points back to theme of desire in which she is consumed by desire for wealth. In line fifty–four, "And she said, 'We are all prisoners here, of
our own device.'" This metaphor is straight–forward as in the women staying at the hotel are prisoners to their wealth and desire. This metaphor is
also another example of theme of desire. The song itself is also a metaphor. The Hotel California is not place, but it represents the California lifestyle
and Hollywood industry with its desire for riches and innocence when first arriving there. The pun on line twenty–eight again represents the theme of
desire. On line twenty–eight, "Mercedes bends." This clever pun could be seen as a misspelling, but it's not. This pun means that the woman gets the
bends (a type scuba–diving sickness from surfacing too fast) from her Mercedes–Benz which means her world–view is distorted by her greed for
wealth. When the speaker first arrives at the

California Water Conservation
California recently implemented its new public policy of mandatory water conservation for lawns, hotels, and restaurants. This policy was passed
because of the environmental conditions that are harming the state. This coincides with stage 1 of the policy cycle stage, agenda setting. In this stage,
the problem is highlighted to the general public: California's scarcity of water supply. California has experienced a water drought for four years, and
water levels are reaching a critical low. "The past three years have been the driest three years in California history dating back to the Gold Rush. On
Tuesday, the Sierra snowpack was at 13 percent of its historic average, and many of the state's largest reservoirs were far below normal" (Rogers)....

This is stage 6 of the public policy cycle, choosing an alternative. This alternative makes sense considering that Governor Brown has already asked
California residents to reduce their water consumption, and they haven't been able to meet his desired goal of reducing water usage by 20%.
Punishing people who are excessively using the water supplies with fines is a great solution because it will ensure that the water is being used wisely.
Only the people and businesses that have to use so much water will be able to pay the fines, and those that find the fines to be expensive will

The Song Analysis Of The Song 'Hotel California'
The song "hotel California" The song "hotel California" was released by an artist known as Eagles in 1976. The genre of the song is classic rock. It
was written by Glenn Frey and Don Felder with help of Don Henley. California is the setting of this song, even though it used to relate the entire
America. This song is all about the exaggeration of the American culture and some specific girls in America. In addition, it touches the uneasy balance
between commerce and art in America. "Hotel California" is a metaphor for the LA high–life and the cons and pros of living in the music industry. "
Hotel California" tells the story of a man driving along a super highway. On his way, the man gets tired and decides to stop at a hotel which ends up
being a pleasure palace with a sinister. While listening, a casual listener would tend to think how "lovely place" California might be. The listener
might wish to crash California probably for a weekend, or order for a room service just to enjoy the lovely place, Hoskyns, B. (2006). . But when
someone listens this song keenly, he or she might start wondering if the hotel is as good as Guantanamo or Palm Springs simply because it says,
"you can check any time you like but you can never leave!" As a matter of fact this song has its dark side. The song "Hotel California" has got
various lyrics. For instance, "warm smell of colitis" which is direct reference to a plant known as colitis. Colitis is one the common desert plants in
America. In

Hotel California Poem Analysis
"Music as Poetry" Essay
The song, "Hotel California", by the Eagles, is a very poetic song that uses imagery, and symbolism to bring out the theme in an indirect way of the
speaker's personal issues of life. The Eagles use imagery to set the mood and tone of the song. Along with many aspects of symbolism to input a lot of
double meaning throughout the whole song. With both imagery and symbolism incorporated, many fans or people who have heard of this song would
believe that the theme of this song is about a lonely traveler trying to break his own temptations.
In the first verse of the introduction of the song, imagery is used for the audience to imagine what exactly is being told. As almost as if it was a
setting in a play or a scene in a movie. In the first verse the first two set of lines says, "On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of
colitas, rising up through the air." (Eagles, Lines 1–2). One can already imagine the speaker driving down a dark desert highway, with his windows
rolled down perhaps, and smelling the warm air full of desert flowers, or maybe he is smelling marijuana in the air. This could be because colitas is
Spanish slang for a bud of cannabis, but it could also mean desert flowers, (Philpot). These first two lines already sets the mood of a restless traveler
who needs a place to stay for the night after a long day of driving. It also hints that there could possibly be drugs or other temptations in this song
considering colitas

Taylor Mountain Regional Park Topographic Analysis
Topographic Assessment of Taylor Mountain Regional Park The purpose of this assessment is to understand all topographic factors concerning the
past, present, and future of Taylor Mountain Regional Park. The site is 4 acres in size and is located in Taylor Mountain Regional Park and Open
Space Preserve. The coordinates of the site, according to the USGS 1954 Santa Rosa Quadrangle Map, are N 38 degrees 24 minutes and 30 seconds,
W 122 degrees 41 minutes and 25 seconds (Figure 2). The entrance to the site is located at the 1900 section of Kawana Terrace, adjacent to the private

Through the northwestern portion of the site a manmade walking path has been established for recreation purposes adjacent to the lowest point of
the meadow. Despite there being a drainage culvert for carrying rainwater under the pathway, there is noticeable erosion of the path itself,
suggesting that with ample rainfall such a culvert is insufficient, allowing rainwater to flow up and over the path (Figure 8). This also draws into
question the stability of the local area in terms of landslides and mass wasting. Because the slope is greater than 25% it is very likely that mass
wasting occurs in the area. Slopes in the surrounding area are not steep enough for rock falls but with consistent heavy rainfall a mudslide of clay
and rock is possible, which could threaten recreational users of the park. Because Taylor Mountain is a public open space preserve there is cause
for concern when designing/building structures associated with recreational use. Precautions must be taken when building to avoid hazards of mass
wasting and erosion. However, due to the nature of the preserve it is highly unlikely that any type of large structure or septic system would be
permitted. Noise pollution in this area is very mild with only the occasional truck being heard on the 101 highway to the west. Unfortunately, a new
fire station is to be built within .6 miles and some local fauna may become disturbed by the wail of sirens. Be advised that a sound barrier should be
constructed around the fire station in order to minimize disturbance of wildlife. One important note is that it was recommended in a biotic assessment
that, "one of the proposed trails be removed from the plan (on Taylor Mountain) to avoid impacts to deer in the oak woodland, and that another be
realigned to avoid wetlands" (Waaland, pg.1). In doing so further disruption of wildlife habitat can be

Hotel California Rhetorical Devices
Glenn Frey, the co–founder of the Eagles, was a middle class kid living in the midwest. He dreamed of acquiring tremendous wealth in Los Angeles,
but later realized that there are more important things than money. In their song, Hotel California, originally titled Mexican Reggae, they (The Eagles)
express this idea to their audience through lyrics that convey the idea that there are more important things than just possessions, and there are negatives
to the "American Dream. The audience in this could be the average person, yet, the rhetorical devices in The Eagles' "Hotel California" are intended to
reveal to the audience that there are negatives to the American Dream, and you shouldn't change who you are in order to make it rich. In "Hotel
California," The Eagles use antithesis, to show a contrast in the American Dream by stating there are both positives and negatives by comparing them
both as heaven and hell. Frey uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case Frey uses epithet to describe a hotel in LA. The hotel represents his American dream of wanting to acquire tremendous wealth in the
West. He described this dream with admiration when he says "Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight
grew dim I had to stop for the night." When he uses the term "shimmering light" it is taken as a positive attribute because objects that shimmer are
often taken as being valuable, much like the materialistic items associated with the American dream. When he states his sight grew dim and I had to
stop for the night, this represents the underbelly of American Materialism. As a country, Americans are never satisfied with what they have. This is
why he describes it as dim and heavy, both of which are taken as having negative connotations. Once again Frey represents both sides by using an
adjective to modify a noun and make it more clear and

'Greed In The Poem Hotel California'
In the lyric poem "Hotel California" by The Eagles, the speaker tells the story of a man succumbing to greed and self–temptation and how he is
forever trapped by that greed in a place that is impossible to leave and go back to where he was before. The poem uses the poetic device of
symbolism by using the hotel as a place where one goes when trapped by their greed. Once the man has experienced what he wants, he is trapped in a
place he cannot leave, shown as a hotel that is impossible to leave in the poem. He begins conflicted about being greedy, ends up enjoying it, but then
figures out he's trapped forever by it.

greed is our own fault and that we trap ourselves in our greed. "'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device,'" (The Eagles stanza 4, line 3).
The second to last stanza of the poem describes the man trying to escape of his greed. It says he is running for the door, trying to get back to the
place he was before. He has realized how badly his greed has ruined his life and tries to go back to being the normal man he was previously. But
once people have experienced greediness and what they wanted, it is impossible to get out of the trap they buried themselves in. The poem states
that "'...You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave!'" (The Eagles stanza 5, lines 7 and 8). It is impossible to leave the place your

Hotel California Short Story
Hotel California "This should be fun," said Anderson Duvall as he drove his 1998 Ford F150 up the snowy mountain road. A desolate, mountain
range in Northern California, this was not how he wanted to be spending his winter. "It's only for two months," he tells himself as he sees the
massive brick prison. It is actually very beautiful, not like a prison in any way. He feels as if it wanted to suck the soul out of him without remorse.
What he had done wasn't that bad... was it? He found it odd... after what he had done, how he had done it. He expected to go to the penitentiary or to
be sentenced to at least house arrest but no, he had been sent to work. He supposed this was worse than the slammer in a way– isolation, no human
contact for the whole winter. Perhaps he would get seasonal affective disorder, after all he wouldn't be seeing the sun for a whole two months. They
told him that they were trying out new disciplinary actions. He didn't buy that for a second. Funny to think that only three months ago he began his
sophomore year in college, engineering major, being looked at by every major basketball team from here to Saint Louis. But that's gone now. He
figured he might as well forget about his past life, the accident changed it all. "Why not try to enjoy this sentence of pure insanity?" They had known
full well that he wasn't right in the head after the fall that ended his basketball career. That's why he did what he did! He had wondered since that day

"So L.A." is a song by The Motels, off of their 1982 album, All Four One. • 7. Persuasive Narrative Essay Have you ever had one of those days where you never wanted it to end? All the joy comes spilling out of you and you don't want it to stop? Well, that was the day I didn't know I had. As I roused out of my sleep, I heard somebody rushing up the stairs and opening my door. " Arlene, wake up we have to leave soon!" My mom bellowed as I started to lift the blue blanket off myself. We were going to California today and I couldn't wait! I went and packed my toothbrush, glasses, contacts, and whatever else I needed. As I rushed downstairs, I smelled the eggs my mom was making us as I gave my luggage to my dad. I couldn't wait for this adventure to begin, but I didn't know how much fun I would really have! "Please fasten your seatbelt the plane is about to land," the flight attendant addressed over the loudspeaker. I squealed as I put my headphones away and turned my phone off. "Ahhhh, I can't believe we're about to land!" I told Armaan. While the plane was landing, we saw the Hollywood Sign, buildings, many hills, and not to mention palm trees! "Wow, look at this view!" I exclaimed as the plane started to dart down at full speed. Finally, we were here. As soon as I got out I felt a nice breeze, and I started to make my way out of the plane and to the baggage area. "I can't believe we're here!" Armaan beamed while my dad went to go pick up a car. We found our bags and headed outside when the hot sun blazed right at me. • 8. Essay about Hotel California: The Californian Lifestyle "Hotel California" by The Eagles has been the recipient of much speculation since its release in 1976. Although many other interpretations exist including some which claim this song to be referencing drugs, much evidence suggests that "Hotel California" is, at least partly, making a statement about the lifestyle of drug and alcohol users particularly in the large cities of California. As with many songs, duality of meaning exists in "Hotel California." Since "Hotel California" debuted in the seventies, one can understand why the topic would be Californian drug–using lifestyle. "The scare tactics of the 1960s gave way to the contradictory messages of the late '70s and early '80s. Drugs became glamorous, without becoming better understood" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After examining the whole song, one can guess that the song makes the claim that marijuana is a drug that allows easy passage to worse drugs. According to "a 1969 Gallup poll, only 4% of American adults said they had tried marijuana. Thirty–four percent said they didn't know the effects of marijuana, but 43% thought it was used by many or some high school kids" (Robison); therefore, many individuals might not understand that marijuana, as many claim today, leads to usage of more harmful substances. The speaker then sees a shimmering light as if he is about to die which signifies the death of an old life and the birth of a new one. The temptation of drugs becomes too strong, so the speaker has to stop at the Hotel California. The mission bell that sounds contrasts so with the topic of this song that the bell must symbolize the perversion of life by the drug–use in California and elsewhere. "This could be Heaven or this could be Hell," furthers the idea of the death of an old life. Here, the speaker does not really know whether or not his or her new life is going to be enjoyable in the end. As it turns out, the speaker's new life is hell. Then she lights up a candle, or perhaps a joint since the place most likely has electricity in the seventies, and shows the speaker the way. Perhaps the woman is a drug–dealer or a prostitute; ether one could lead a person to a lifestyle full of drugs and alcohol. "Her mind is Tiffany–twisted, she got the Mercedes bends," (The Eagles) ... Introduction I.Attention Grabber: Have any of you ever heard of a song that has a different meaning than what you always thought it meant? A.One of the most popular that I'm sure most of you have heard of is "Stairway to Heaven," and how played backwards, it sounds like it is a song of Satan. • 12. Song Analysis Of 'Hotel California' Everyone makes mistakes at some point in their lives. As an adolescent many are told to "learn from you mistakes," but an abundant amount of adults do not tend to live by that. Many times, people are blinded by wealth, reputation, and success. Rather than making the right decisions, they disregard their previous choices of action instead of learning from them. "Hotel California's" message is trying to revert its listeners back to their childhood ways. The iconic track hit the music industry with its soulful lyrics and its innovative sound in 1976. The album as well as the song is titled "Hotel California". In "Hotel California," The Eagles relay to the listener that if one takes the risk, they must suffer the consequences by using metaphor, assonance, and imagery. The Eagles use rhythmic patterns in their lyrics that further portrays the main characters feelings before and after he has to compensate. When The Eagles sing, "She got the mercedes bends/She got a lot of pretty, pretty, boys that she calls friends," this connects the two sentences to help the listener further understand how the main character noticed the odd quirks about the situations and actions of his peers (line 30).The use of assonance provides a more indepth outlook about the leading woman in the song. • 13. Description Of The Road Trip Road Trip It was the morning of July 5th, 2015. My alarm sounded off at around 4:30 AM telling me it was time to get ready and head out. I grabbed my duffle bag full of clothes, got in my truck, and headed to my girlfriend's house who lives five minutes away. I pulled into the driveway with excitement rushing through my body. She was standing there, all packed, wearing a Boston Red Sox hat. We had gone shopping the night before for food and drinks we thought we needed. We had a cooler full of ice and piled everything up in there and placed it in the trunk of our car along with our tent, blankets, and other miscellaneous items we were going to need. We parked in a garage and walked around for a couple hours, taking everything in. stores lined Main Street, filled with cowboy boots and souvenirs that could draw anybody's attention. Knowing that we were on a tight schedule, we bought a few souvenirs then were on our way to the last stop of the day. We know found ourselves in the boondocks of Lebanon, Tennessee. I turned onto the dirt road that led to the campground we would be staying at. After taking almost twenty minutes to set up our tent, we threw our air mattress inside and were forced to blow it up on our own, since the electric pump decided to short circuit. The humidity was so heavy that I nearly passed out because of it, but we both managed to make it through the night safely with only a few bug bites. We were on the road again in the morning heading to our next hotel in Arkansas. The landscape began to open up, and on either side I could see fields of corn span for miles. After hundreds of miles, we made it to our next spot and got some much needed sleep. The next day, we crossed over into Oklahoma. • 16. Analysis Of Hotel California By The Eagles I have always enjoyed music with strong, meaningful lyrics so this option was the obvious choice for my final. I find myself constantly listening to music and have listened to "Hotel California" by The Eagles more times than I can count, making it another obvious choice for me. Although, when reading through the lyrics the first time, I realized that I had never understood the song meaning and the theme it is intended to portray. It was interesting to read through it with my own, as opposed to hearing the tone it receives when listening to the song. Not having the music helped me understand the meaning of the lines better, letting the words sink in instead of them being sung quickly and then gone. "Hotel California" takes on a relatively free form when analyzed as poetry. It contains a mostly consistent rhyme pattern throughout using an A,A,B,B,C,C series, as many songs do. However, the meter of the song is less structured and has more variance throughout the stanzas. Each can carry different numbers of syllables than the one before, depending on the part of the song. This is where the work loses its formality and is taken as free verse. When reading through, the lyrics carry even more similar traits than those we look for when analyzing modern poetry including, general theme and figurative language. The theme of the song is rather interesting and I have heard many different theories about the meaning when discussing it with peers over the years. One of the thoughts is ... The Eagles use imagery to set the mood and tone of the song. Along with many aspects of symbolism to input a lot of double meaning throughout the whole song. With both imagery and symbolism incorporated, many fans or people who have heard of this song would believe that the theme of this song is about a lonely traveler trying to break his own temptations. In the first verse of the introduction of the song, imagery is used for the audience to imagine what exactly is being told. As almost as if it was a setting in a play or a scene in a movie. In the first verse the first two set of lines says, "On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air." (Eagles, Lines 1–2). One can already imagine the speaker driving down a dark desert highway, with his windows rolled down perhaps, and smelling the warm air full of desert flowers, or maybe he is smelling marijuana in the air. This could be because colitas is Spanish slang for a bud of cannabis, but it could also mean desert flowers, (Philpot). These first two lines already sets the mood of a restless traveler who needs a place to stay for the night after a long day of driving. It also hints that there could possibly be drugs or other temptations in this song considering colitas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Taylor Mountain Regional Park Topographic Analysis Topographic Assessment of Taylor Mountain Regional Park The purpose of this assessment is to understand all topographic factors concerning the past, present, and future of Taylor Mountain Regional Park. The site is 4 acres in size and is located in Taylor Mountain Regional Park and Open Space Preserve. The coordinates of the site, according to the USGS 1954 Santa Rosa Quadrangle Map, are N 38 degrees 24 minutes and 30 seconds, W 122 degrees 41 minutes and 25 seconds (Figure 2). The entrance to the site is located at the 1900 section of Kawana Terrace, adjacent to the private continuation of Kawana Terrace in Santa Rosa California 95407 in the United States. The site is located in the NE 1/2 of the SE 1/4 of section 36, T7N, R8W on the Mount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through the northwestern portion of the site a manmade walking path has been established for recreation purposes adjacent to the lowest point of the meadow. Despite there being a drainage culvert for carrying rainwater under the pathway, there is noticeable erosion of the path itself, suggesting that with ample rainfall such a culvert is insufficient, allowing rainwater to flow up and over the path (Figure 8). This also draws into question the stability of the local area in terms of landslides and mass wasting. Because the slope is greater than 25% it is very likely that mass wasting occurs in the area. Slopes in the surrounding area are not steep enough for rock falls but with consistent heavy rainfall a mudslide of clay and rock is possible, which could threaten recreational users of the park. Because Taylor Mountain is a public open space preserve there is cause for concern when designing/building structures associated with recreational use. Precautions must be taken when building to avoid hazards of mass wasting and erosion. However, due to the nature of the preserve it is highly unlikely that any type of large structure or septic system would be permitted. Noise pollution in this area is very mild with only the occasional truck being heard on the 101 highway to the west. Unfortunately, a new fire station is to be built within .6 miles and some local fauna may become disturbed by the wail of sirens. Be advised that a sound barrier should be constructed around the fire station in order to minimize disturbance of wildlife. One important note is that it was recommended in a biotic assessment that, "one of the proposed trails be removed from the plan (on Taylor Mountain) to avoid impacts to deer in the oak woodland, and that another be realigned to avoid wetlands" (Waaland, pg.1). In doing so further disruption of wildlife habitat can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Hotel California Rhetorical Devices Glenn Frey, the co–founder of the Eagles, was a middle class kid living in the midwest. He dreamed of acquiring tremendous wealth in Los Angeles, but later realized that there are more important things than money. In their song, Hotel California, originally titled Mexican Reggae, they (The Eagles) express this idea to their audience through lyrics that convey the idea that there are more important things than just possessions, and there are negatives to the "American Dream. The audience in this could be the average person, yet, the rhetorical devices in The Eagles' "Hotel California" are intended to reveal to the audience that there are negatives to the American Dream, and you shouldn't change who you are in order to make it rich. In "Hotel California," The Eagles use antithesis, to show a contrast in the American Dream by stating there are both positives and negatives by comparing them both as heaven and hell. Frey uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case Frey uses epithet to describe a hotel in LA. The hotel represents his American dream of wanting to acquire tremendous wealth in the West. He described this dream with admiration when he says "Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night." When he uses the term "shimmering light" it is taken as a positive attribute because objects that shimmer are often taken as being valuable, much like the materialistic items associated with the American dream. When he states his sight grew dim and I had to stop for the night, this represents the underbelly of American Materialism. As a country, Americans are never satisfied with what they have. This is why he describes it as dim and heavy, both of which are taken as having negative connotations. Once again Frey represents both sides by using an adjective to modify a noun and make it more clear and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. 'Greed In The Poem Hotel California' In the lyric poem "Hotel California" by The Eagles, the speaker tells the story of a man succumbing to greed and self–temptation and how he is forever trapped by that greed in a place that is impossible to leave and go back to where he was before. The poem uses the poetic device of symbolism by using the hotel as a place where one goes when trapped by their greed. Once the man has experienced what he wants, he is trapped in a place he cannot leave, shown as a hotel that is impossible to leave in the poem. He begins conflicted about being greedy, ends up enjoying it, but then figures out he's trapped forever by it. The poem begins by telling the story of the man riding down a road when he sees a light in the distance. He sees a girl standing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "They stab it with their steely knives, But they just can't kill the beast," (The Eagles stanza 4, lines 6 and 7). The speaker notes that succumbing to greed is our own fault and that we trap ourselves in our greed. "'We are all just prisoners here, of our own device,'" (The Eagles stanza 4, line 3). The second to last stanza of the poem describes the man trying to escape of his greed. It says he is running for the door, trying to get back to the place he was before. He has realized how badly his greed has ruined his life and tries to go back to being the normal man he was previously. But once people have experienced greediness and what they wanted, it is impossible to get out of the trap they buried themselves in. The poem states that "'...You can check out any time you like, But you can never leave!'" (The Eagles stanza 5, lines 7 and 8). It is impossible to leave the place your greed has trapped you ... • 37. California Population Expansion There are many social and cultural aspects hidden in the meaning of the song. Los Angeles fascinates different religions and cults groups due to its deceptive and lucrative lifestyles. As it has been seen that there are so many churches there in Hotel California regions, Muslims do practice Islam in mosques and Jews temples are often seen in the city (Bagby; Curti et al.). People come out here and they leave their ties behind, and I'm thinking of the people who came when the huge population expansion of the 1920s and beyond occurred. These people are rootless; in many cases, they have time on their hands for the first time in their lives. Many of them are retirees on pensions. • 38. Hotel California Short Story Hotel California "This should be fun," said Anderson Duvall as he drove his 1998 Ford F150 up the snowy mountain road. A desolate, mountain range in Northern California, this was not how he wanted to be spending his winter. "It's only for two months," he tells himself as he sees the massive brick prison. It is actually very beautiful, not like a prison in any way. He feels as if it wanted to suck the soul out of him without remorse. What he had done wasn't that bad... was it? He found it odd... after what he had done, how he had done it. He expected to go to the penitentiary or to be sentenced to at least house arrest but no, he had been sent to work. He supposed this was worse than the slammer in a way– isolation, no human contact for the whole winter. Perhaps he would get seasonal affective disorder, after all he wouldn't be seeing the sun for a whole two months. They told him that they were trying out new disciplinary actions. He didn't buy that for a second. Funny to think that only three months ago he began his sophomore year in college, engineering major, being looked at by every major basketball team from here to Saint Louis. But that's gone now. He figured he might as well forget about his past life, the accident changed it all. "Why not try to enjoy this sentence of pure insanity?" They had known full well that he wasn't right in the head after the fall that ended his basketball career. That's why he did what he did! He had wondered since that day what sinister ...
