Similarities And Differences In Dogsong
Dogsong by Gary Paulsen is a very enjoyable book. This book follows a 14 year old eskimo boy name Russel Susskit. He lives with his dad in a
village in the winter. During the summer they live in fish camps together. Russels mother had abandoned him and his father years ago. Russel has a
lot of questions about life that he hasn't had answered yet. Every day is about the same for the village and Russel, he wakes up to his dad coughing
and the smell of diesel fuel. One day when Russel tells his dad his opinion about snowmobiles his dad sends him to talk to a village elder named,
Oogruk. Oogruk is a wise, blind, man in the village and he knows the old ways of the eskimo people and how it was before th white men were there.

I would like to have some of his qualities, but I don't, yet. Oogruk is an old, blind, wise man. These are just a couple of differences between us. I'm
not old, yet, i'm not blind, and i'm not wise, yet. These are all things that Oogruk has but not me. Some other differences are that he is an eskimo, he
lives in government owned houses in a village, and he is a shaman. Some similarities are that we both think that the old eskimo ways are good, and
we both like to see beautiful things. I think that the older eskimo ways were good, because it seem more interactive, and it seemed like it brought
people closer together. Before Russel goes on his journey Oogruk asks him to bring him out to the frozen ocean and that is something I would want to

Beginning to the Great Alaskan Race
In 1925 a diphtheria epidemic broke out in the small Alaskan town of Nome. With the town at the risk of death they urgently needed an antiserum. So
twenty dogs sled teams relayed the serum from the town of Nenana to Nome. The hardships of the dogs and mushers went through along with the hero
dogs, and teams of mushers and dogs will forever be alive in Alaskan history. This journey is a gratifying accomplishment and a proud moment in
Alaskan history. There were twenty teams of dogs varying from seven dogs to twenty–three dogs with a total of over a hundred dogs running from
town to town carrying a life saving serum to the people of Nome. These teams of dogs carried the antiserum from Nenana to Nome. William Shannon
picked up the serum in Nenana from the steam train that had brought it from Anchorage. As the first team to handle the serum they took off with a fast
start. The lead dog Blackie guided the team fifty–two miles from Nenana to Tolovana. They serum was passed from musher to musher until Edgar
Kalland picked the serum up in Nine Mile he was the seventh musher to have the serum. He took the serum to Kokrines through temperatures of
forty–four degrees below zero. Another musher that handled the serum through harsh conditions was, Charlie Evans. He took the serum thirty miles
from Bishop Mountain to Nulato. It was negative sixty–four degrees on the trail when he had the serum. Due to the weather he lost his two lead
dogs.He lost them to extreme exposure in a small

The Call Of The Wild By Jack London
The novel The Call of the Wild is written by Jack London. The novel is known as an adventure fiction; it is known as an adventure fiction because it
is based on an adventure by London, but is put into a fictional reading. This novel is told about a dog and his life struggles, but it is based on an
adventure taken by London. This novel is important to us because it gives us an insight on how important it is to fight for what you want, and defend
your place in life. The theme of this novel is to work for your wants and needs.

is the only female character in the story and in my opinion is very pampered. Buck was stolen from his home in California and forced into dog
slavery. This mean that Buck must now pull a heavy sled for thousands of miles across the country to get to the destination of the leader of the dog
pack, Dawson. Buck was very shy at the beginning because he had never done anything in that state of work before. Buck was beginning to have
dreams about the primitive. Buck became involved in a rivalry between him and the lead dog Spitz. Buck was able to defeat Spitz and become lead
sled dog for the pac. Buck and Thornton became very connected. They were so close that they took and adventure together. Buck is faced with a
dilemma of whether to stay with Thornton or kill things. Buck was deciding whether to be wild or tame. When we reach the end of the novel Buck

Dog Break Out 1000bm Sled Case Study
" Dog Breaks Out 1000 lb Sled"
In Dawson at a bar, Eldorado Saloon, on January 15, 1898 at 3:00 pm, a sled dog named Buck broke out a sled weighing 1000 lb. He had to pull it an
exhilarating 100 yards.
Three men were arguing about how much their sled dogs could break out. Then a man named John Thorton who owns Buck jumps into the
conversation.
"That's not a lot compared to how much Buck here can start." He said indiscreetly.
Right then the bet was on. Buck had to break out a 1000 lb sled and pull it a 100 yard for $1000 dollars.
"You're crazy to think that this is a huge exploit you know. But, I'll make it worthwhile and say that he can't for $1000." Said Matthewson, one of the
men who was boasting about his dog for being able to pull

Analysis Of The Book ' White Fang '
White Fang, a fiction book, mostly takes place in the Yukon territory of California. It is written in third person point of view. This point of view helps
you understand how all of the characters were feeling and gives you a better understanding of what transpired. Jack London is the author of this book.
Jack London lived in Oakland, California as a child. As a child Jack got in trouble a lot and went to jail. After jail he went to school and got
interested in writing after winning a newspaper contest. He then got gold fever. When he came back to California, he found that he was inspired by the
North and the dogs and wolves there. This is where the inspiration for the book White Fang emanated from.

One morning when the cub entered the woods Indians, which he had never seen before, were sitting in front of him. The cub just stared at the
Indians. Then one of them reached down and when they got close enough to his head he sank his teeth into them. He was then knocked off of his
feet. The Indians just laughed at him. They thought his white fangs were hilarious. Kiche then came to take care of the cub. One of the men then
yelled out Kiche's name. The men put their hands on Kiche and she didn't bite or snarl. Kiche used to belong to an Indian. She ran away from her
owner when there was no meat for her. The Indians from the woods that the cub discovered then tied Kiche up. The Indians' dogs came at the cub
and assailed him. The Indians had to get the dogs off of him. Kiche and the cub, now named White Fang, became a component of the tribe. As time
passed White fang learned that he needed to obey the Indians. The dogs still did not accept White Fang though. The Indians began to trust Kiche and
untied her. Gray Beaver then gave Kiche to Three Eagles. The Three Eagles took Kiche away from White Fang. White Fang endeavored to stay with
his mother, but it didn't work. White Fang began to fight the other dogs more. Now dog and man abhorred him.
When summer ended White Fang noticed that the Indians prepared to leave. He realized it was his time to leave. He left camp and laid down. He

Informative Essay On Sled Dogs
Samoyeds, Huskies and Malamutes are all breeds of sled dogs. They are most commonly used to pull heavy loads. These dogs must be built well and
have a lot of stamina in order to pull the load. First, I will tell you about Samoyeds, then Huskies, and lastly Malamutes. Samoyeds are fluffy white
dogs that live about 12 to 13 years. They normally grow up to 32 to 55 lbs. in weight and 19 to 24 inches tall. How do you take care of Samoyeds?
Samoyeds are pretty easy to take care of, as they are quite smart and not as hard to train as teeny–tiny dogs. The younger the Samoyed, the less it eats
and vice–versa. You should never allow a grown Samoyed to become overweight, otherwise the dog will be sad. The adaptability of this particular
dog is great, it will adapt well to most things. The friendliness of this dog is amazing, as it has an all–around amazing personality. On the contrary to
popular belief, however, it is not easy to groom, and this dog will gain weight easily if you do not feed it correctly. Overall, this dog is pretty simple
and is probably a great use as a sled dog.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

are all around a very friendly dog and they are medium sized if you like those type of dogs. This dog is very intelligent, and its general health is overall
great. This dog, however, is not easy to train. It can have a tendency to bark and howl at times. Overall, this is a very playful dog and it will go out

The Call Of The Wild Critical Analysis Essay
John Thornton, from the book The Call of the Wild, stood up for what he believed was the right thing to do in difficult times. Minho, who is a
character in The Maze Runner, kept striving to make sure that he would escape the maze while keeping the Gladers safe. Buck, whom is also from
The Call of the Wild, had to adapt and fight to lead his team in the North. However, all three were very determined to follow what they believe
because of their strong will.
John Thornton undertook the mission of saving Buck and then trying to do what no one had done before, make it to the lost mine of the north. The
book, The Call of the Wild, states, "And then, suddenly, without warning, uttering a cry that was inarticulate and more like the cry of an... Show more

The author illustrates the Gladers common will. The author writes, "He understood more than ever the passion the Gladers felt for finding their way
out of the Maze. It wasn't just a matter of escape" (Dashner Chapter 23). The will of the Gladers showed itself in their passion to escape. They were
all working for one goal, and they were all working together. Minho and many of the other Gladers, through their strong will, eventually safely escaped
the Maze.
Buck was a ferocious dog who was determined to lead his sled dog team in the Klondike region of the north in the best–seller The Call of the Wild. The
text states, "He wanted, not to escape a clubbing, but to have the leadership. It was his by right. He had earned it, and he would not be content with
less" (London Chapter 4). The canine had fought to the death to earn his rightful position as lead dog, and he was going to get it no matter who got in
his way. The speaker states, "Buck stood and looked on, the successful champion, the dominant primordial beast who had made his kill and found it
good" (London 67). He had done what he truly thought was right. Spitz had been mocking Buck since the day they met and he finally was strong
enough to terminate the fighting. Buck finally did complete his mission after gruesome efforts to be the last man standing.
John, Minho, and Buck all had different reasons that drove them to undertake their missions. John had to save Buck

The Role Of Social Darwinism In The Call Of The Wild
Jack London's The Call of the Wild is a novel written during the literary era of Naturalism. It is about a pampered dog, Buck, who was thrown into
the Alaskan wilderness and becomes part of a team of sled dogs. Eventually, he becomes the leader of a wolf pack. Naturalism takes place during a
time in America known as the Gilded Age. During the Gilded Age, the ideas of Social Darwinism take hold. Social Darwinism is "a term scholars
use to describe the practice of misapplying the biological evolutionary language of Charles Darwin to politics, the economy, and society" ("Social
Darwinism in the Gilded Age"). But how is London's novel a zeitgeist of Naturalism? Jack London's The Call of the Wild is a zeitgeist of Naturalism
with its usage of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is during this time that "call of the wild" strengthens in Buck, and he goes into the forest and befriends a wolf. When Buck returns, he finds out that
Yeehat Indians have killed everyone at the campsite. As a result of Buck's sheer rage at finding Thornton dead, he kills some of the Yeehats and then
becomes the leader of a wolf pack.
According to the article American Naturalism: A Webliography and E
–Anthology, determinism is a common theme in Naturalism. It is the belief that
actions and events are determined by outside forces. Atavism can arguably be one of these forces, as it is the tendency to revert back to the primitive
("Atavism"). Another theme in Naturalism is Darwinism, which stems into Social Darwinist beliefs. One of their beliefs is in laissez–faire capitalism,
which is a type of economy in which the government does not interfere with businesses with matters such as tariffs and regulations. They advocated it
because "they believed that government should not interfere in the 'survival of the fittest' by helping the poor..." ("Social Darwinism in the Gilded
Age"). The survival of the fittest plays a big role in Social Darwinism because they believed that "businessmen and others who were economically and
socially successful were so because they were biologically and socially 'naturally' the fittest" and that "...they reasoned that the poor were 'naturally'
weak and unfit..." ("Social

Race Across Alaska Book Report
In the book, Race Across Alaska, by Libby Riddles, Libby is an up and coming musher who has no sponsor and no money. However, she takes her
love of adventure and the sport to the Iditarod and ends up winning. The first few years, after moving to Alaska, were hard for Libby. She had
moved to Alaska from Wisconsin when she was 16 with her brother and decided to become a professional musher. Due to this she's paid very little
and her track record was not great, so she was forced to live in a trailer with no heating or electricity. She could only eat the food she hunted. After
years of living like this and training Libby decides to race in the Iditarod, an 11,049–mile race .through the tundra, for her third time in 1975, and she

This race entails a 1,000 plus mile stretch along an unknown trail. Due to its length, tradition, and difficulty, it is known as the " last great race on
earth". If Libby had just raced and made it through even if she came in dead last she would have survived, but she won showing that she had gone
above and beyond thus thriving. The race takes a lot of hard work and training which is exactly what Libby did, she borrowed, raised, and trained
her own dogs" these same dogs led her to victory, in the texts libby says"sometimes when a musher can't see do to snow she has to rely on her dogs to
know, with them I also felt like I could"(riddles 11). She didn't just do that, but she had enough courage to enter a race three times, knowing that no
women had ever won. Although the distance is an unbelievable one of the biggest challenges is the weather. Besides the fact that the woods and
mountains of Alaska are subzero, many mushers have experienced fast winds, blizzards, and even rain during the event, and usually, prevail but in
1875 during the Iditarod's a huge blizzard hit and many of the other mushers joined at the ruby ridge(a checkpoint) to wait it out, but Libby made
the bold decision to continue. Libby spent days in the arctic cold and even had to give up two dogs who were worn and or injured by the ice. Not
only that, but there were times Libby was unable to see where she was going the snow was such a whirlwind. She eventually crossed the finish line,
making history and paving the way for many other future female mushers. She was the only musher willing to bare it all she wasn't going to let one
blizzard stop her from her dream of winning the last great

How Sled Dogs Feel In The Iditarod Race
People should think about how sled dogs feel in the Iditarod races. The Iditarod is cruel two dogs because the dogs are provided proper care and they
have to run in harsh weather and terrain.
veterinarians and mushers don't give the dogs the health care and love they need. "Larger Iditarod kennels frequently disposed of dogs by shooting
them, drowning them, or setting them loose to fend for themselves in the wilderness." Killing a dog for no reason is abuse and shows how people in the
Iditarod don't care about their dogs at all. At least 136 dogs have died in the Iditarod or as a result of running in it. If those dogs would have had the
care they needed, most of them would not have died in the race. However, some deaths are unpreventable.

Buck's Sled Dog
Can a tame dog turn into a wild, ferocious animal? Buck lived in the Santa Clara Valley for four years. He ruled above all the other dogs. During the
Gold Rush, Buck got sold away to be an Alaskan sled dog. As he adapted to being in the wild with vicious dogs, he changed rapidly. Buck transformed
from being a civilized dog that was king of all dogs to a fierce dog. In the 1890's during the Klondike Gold Rush, strong sled dogs were needed. Buck
was stolen from his house, Judge Miller's place in Santa Clara Valley, and was given to a man. Next, he was sold to two men named Francois and
Perrault to be a sled dog. As Buck saw other dogs fighting with other dogs, he learned the law of club and fang and started fighting with other dogs.

markers of Buck's gradual integration into his new environment. When Buck first arrives in the north, he watches a friendly dog named Curly brutally
killed by a husky. Soon, he finds himself in a rivalry with Spitz that ends with the two of them locked in single combat, a battle from which only Buck
emerges alive. Having established himself as a dominant dog with this victory, Buck must continue to prove himself in battles with other creatures–with
a bear, with a moose, and, finally, with humans. When Buck kills the Yeehat Indians who have killed John Thornton, he is fighting for his life against
mankind for the first time, a sure sign of his final assimilation into the

Morality In Jack London's The Call Of The Wild
Jack London, in his book 'The call of the wild', portrays, that the strongest, smartest, and the one who is not shy of compromising their morals in the
wilderness, will always prosper. In this novel, Buck, the protagonist, a Saint Bernard/ scotch shepherd mix, is taken from his home in California, and
becomes a sled dog , and eventually the lead sled dog, in Alaska. Buck is constantly learning about life in the wild, about the law of club and fang, and
how the man with the club is the top, and you do not fight that. He also learns that the strong survive well when he kills Spitz. In the book, Buck
always ate slow and deliberately, but seeing another dog steal food, to get more, and being fed much less than he is used to, he adapts this practice,
against his own morals, and steals food. Later in the book, London says that 'buck was now wise in the way of the club'. This shows: In the call of the
wild, buck learns that only the strong and smart survive in the wild, and that unfortunately, to survive, sometimes, moral integrity is compromised.
Midst this novel, the smart are the strong. During Buck's fight with the former lead dog; "Spitz was untouched, while Buck was streaming with blood
and panting." It seems as if the battle will be soon be over, due to the fact that: "The fighting was getting desperate ... As buck grew winded, Spitz took
to rushing, and he kept him staggering for footing." Buck then realizes that his size, though larger than Spitz, was no match for the

Domesticated Dog In The Call Of The Wild By Jack London
Have you ever seen a dog act like a wild animal? In the book The Call of the Wild by Jack London, a domesticated dog named Buck is kidnapped
and sold to people in the Yukon. The people and other dogs teach him the law of the club and fang. Buck retrogressed and learned that only the fittest
survive. Eventually Buck turned into a animal who couldn't be tamed and eventually joined a wolf pack.
After Buck got off the narwhal, he learned a very important lesson about fighting. Soon after the Narwhal dropped Francois, Perrault, and the dog sled
team off, Curly tried to socialize. The dog she picked was very unfriendly and attacked her. ".... only a leap in like a flash, a metallic clip of teeth a leap

Chapter Summary: The Call Of The Wild
I did not like the book The Call Of The Wild because in the first two or three chapters after buck gets adopted by Francois the book repeats itself
over and over again. Also every time something that should kill Buck, he breaks through and lives with minor inguries. I liked the book because
Buck shone through all the other dogs he was brave, loving, and always did what his master told him too. Chapter one: Into the Primitive is about
Buck is kidnapped from Judge Miller's place up in the Sun–kissed Santa Clara Valley. After being kidnapped he stays on a train for two days, then ends

meeting Thorton bets Buck could pull a one thousand pound sled even though he doesn't think he can. Once Buck pulls the sled for one hundred
meters John falls to his knees.
Chapter seven: The sounding of the call is about Buck killing the Yeehat tribe, joining a pack of wolves, and staying loyal to John Thorton. Buck traces
Thorton's footsteps to find him when he sees a tribe of indians he attacks them. When buck finds that Thorton is dead he makes sure nothing touches
him. Buck guards the valley in which Thorton died in, hunters from the tribes make sure never to go into that valley.
Buck is now known as a ghost dog who runs at the lead of the pack and stays loyal to John Thorton. Buck is the leader of a wolfpack, and he leads
those wolfs to the valley that John died in everynight and howls a howl that is to be called "The Call of the Wild." If you were at the Klondike gold rush

through whatever he needs to stay alive. There is always a new challenge Fang and his buddies must face. That is why they are willing to do whatever
to survive.

There are many different antagonists through White Fang. Beauty Smith is a very ugly and cruel man who tricked White Fang's previous owner into
trading for whiskey. He tries over and over to turn White Fang into a fightingdog and has him fight dogs for money. Cherokee is a bulldog who
almost kills White Fang. He is the only dog to ever get close to finish White Fang in a battle. Another antagonist is Jim Hall. Jim Hall is a criminal
who is sent to jail unjustly by Judge Scott.

Call Of The Wild Essay
In 1903, Jack London wrote his best selling novel, concerning the life of a sled dog that travels throughout Alaska, the Yukon, and the Klondike.
Throughout this book Jack London uses personification to illustrate the dog's viewpoint. London describes what adventures the dog encounters after
being kidnapped from his Santa Clara Valley home to be taken toAlaska as a sled dog to help men pursue gold in the gold rush of 1897. Buck, is the
name of this sled dog who experiences his primitive life style for the first time after many forays through Canada and Alaska. Due to the events in
Buck's life, he transforms from a domesticated, family pet to a primordial, wild beast.
To begin with, before living in northern Canada and Alaska, Buck... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manuel kidnaps Buck and sells him to pay off a debt. Buck's trustworthy nature changes as soon as he is beaten and is not fed or allowed to drink
water. When Buck arrives in Seattle he is almost beaten to death by the man in the red sweater. "He saw, once for all, that he stood no
chance against a man with a club." (Call of the Wild, page 19). Buck learns from this horrible incident the 'law of the club.' The law of the
club states that a dog is no match for a man with a weapon. Buck witnesses as his newly–made friend named Curly is torn to pieces by thirty or forty
huskies after she falls to the ground from fighting. Buck is taught the 'law of the fang' from Curly's death scene. The law of the fang recognizes the
fact that once a dog falls to the ground he is dead. In the north, Buck learns many traits that will help him journey through the north in order to
survive. Buck learns that he has to eat his food quickly in order to not have it stolen; he learns to steal food to survive, because the daily ration
cannot fill his stomach; he learns to break the ice out from his toes; and finally Buck learns that in order to stay warm during the harsh, freezing
nights, he has to make a 'nest' to sleep in. Because Buck learns these new secrets of the sled dogs, he is able to survive in the north and to maintain his

Transportation in Alaska was very difficult during the early 1920's. The frozen, mountainous, unexplored terrain made it very difficult to move
supplies from one end of the state to the other. This is when Alaskan's began using Huskies to pull their load across the blizzard like land. In 1925 a
small town in Northwest Alaska was at its peak of a gold rush, when an outbreak arose and needed antitoxins immediately to save the town of this
incipient epidemic. Over 20 mushers and 200 dogs rose to the challenge to carry the medicine from Anchorage over 650 miles across the tundra to
Nome. This gave birth to the "Last Great Race on Earth."

Personal Narrative: A Day Without Making A Snowman
When I woke up on Saturday morning, I looked outside the window and I saw that it had snowed. I had no clue that I was going to have big plans
for the snow. I was about twelve years old when I had an amazing snow day. When these big plans for snow happened, I was in the same house that I
am currently in which is in Alexandria. Since I had a house I had a lot of land to sled on. I woke up and put my 2 layers of clothes on and put my snow

Why Buck Should Be A Sled Dog
Some people would say that Buck should be a sled dog but, I think that he should be a house dog. He is better off as a house dog because he had
water, food, great shelter and he got the love that most pets need. Judge Miller's place was an outstanding place for Buck to live. The only con is
that, he didn't get out much. Buck was always with everyone else so he knows that people really do love him. Things were really similar and calm.
The Judge offered him great stables, and long grape arbors. In the story you can notice that Buck is treated like royalty in is domain. I can see how he

The Characters In Jack London's The Call Of The Wild
"Then an old wolf, gaunt and battle–scarred, came forward. Buck writhed his lips into the preliminary of a snarl, but sniffed noses with him.
Whereupon the old wolf sat down, pointed nose at the moon, and broke out the long wolf howl. The others sat down and howled. And now the call
came to Buck in unmistakable accents. He, too, sat down and howled. This over, he came out of his angle and the pack crowded around him, sniffing
in half–friendly, half–savage manner. The leaders lifted the yelp of the pack and sprang away into the woods. The wolves swung in behind, yelping
in chorus. And Buck ran with them, side by side with the wild brother, yelping as he ran." (82) In the novel, The Call of the Wild, Jack London tells
the story of a dog named Buck who transforms from a tamed dog to a wild animal that is called back into the wild. At the beginning of the story,
Buck lived in a luxurious house but was kidnapped and sold to a Klondike gold hunter. Buck became experienced at being in the harness of a
sledding team. The wilderness conditions and harsh masters made Buck stronger as his instincts grew stronger. When Buck's life was in peril, John
Thornton rescued him from his cruel master. As John Thornton made Buck healthy again, their relationship grew, and Buck became his favorite dog.
Though Buck had a devotion and love for his final owner, he felt a strong, instinctual calling to be back in the wild. The Call of the Wild is a good

Call Of The Wild: Comparing The Book And Movie
In this essay I am going to talk about The Call of the Wild. The essay is going to describe how the book and the movie are different. So the Call of
the Wild is a story about a dog named Buck. Buck is the main character in the story. He gets turned into a sled dog because people come and steal
Buck from his owner Judge Miller and his family. The first scene of the movie takes place in Santa Clara Valley. The first thing that happens in the
book is the author is explaning what buck is, what he does , and what he is like.In the movie it is talking about a guy named John Thorton and how he
is going to go on the Yukon Gold Rush. This is what happens in the first chapter of the story takes place in Santa Clara Valley.

One of Francois and Perrault's dogs were attacked by one of the dogs that were considered savages in the town of Dyea Beach. The the wolfish creature
of a dog jumped on Curly and ripped her face open from eye to jaw and killed Curly. In the movie it does not show Curly was killed it does not
even talk about a dog named Curly. In chapter 3 of the book Buck killed Spitz the other dog. The reason buck killed him was because Spitz went to
attack Buck then they were attacking each other and buck ended up killing spitz. In the movie buck also killed Spitz over food cause, Spitz tried
to take his food. In chapter 3 of the book it is also telling about a trip to deliver mail that they made in record time. Something that the movie did
not talk about that the movie did is no wolves attacked Francois and Perrault's camp. There was not a fight between the Black Burton and John in
the bar in the movie but there was in the story. The money and distance were wrong and it was on mud instead of ice and snow. That is some of the
differences and similarities of the book Call of the Wild and the movie Call of the Wild. This shows that books and movies are not always alike.

Call Of The Wild Research Paper
The great author Stephen King once said, "As a nation, we've been through too many fights to preserve our rights of free thought to let them go just
because some prude with a highlighter doesn't approve of them." As the opposition might say, material such as The Call of the Wild are too mature
for 8th grade students. But, for many reasons I believe such material is very fitting for an 8th grade curriculum. First, it is a wonderful example of
American literature with many great morals. Secondly, it explores many historical topics about America's history. Lastly, banning one book will only
lead to the banning of other books. The first topic I will discuss is how The Call of the Wild is a wonderful piece of American Literature.

The book is set in the time period of the Klondike Gold Rush which started about 1896. Many people were desperate to strike it rich, for there was a
depression in the lower 48 at the time. In the book we are shown Buck being taken to the Yukon to be asled dog. As it says in the plot summary, "...the
mail carrier sells them to a group of American gold hunters––Hal, Charles, and Mercedes." This shows how Buck was thrown around between owners
which was common, because the demand for sled dogs was very high. All of these examples are historically accurate and can teach a student a lot
about life during the Klondike Gold Rush. On the other hand, the opposing claim may say, history is taught in a History class and is not taught in
English class. In my opinion, history is what makes literature come alive. It challenges the reader to learn more about the time period and how it
relates to the story. Along with that, many famous books such as "The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin" and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" are
all directly related to a specific time in history. In all, the historical setting of The Call of the Wild makes it a fine novella to use in any 8th grade
curriculum. Lastly, I will look at how if one book gets banned it may lead to many other books being

The antagonists of White Fang are Lip–Lip and the other sled dogs, who fought him all the time when he was young. Kiche, White Fang's mother, who

These dogs and people are also central to the plot of the story. Lip–Lip was a sled dog, who didn't like White Fang right off the bat, and the same for

I'm not old, yet, i'm not blind, and i'm not wise, yet. These are all things that Oogruk has but not me. Some other differences are that he is an eskimo, he lives in government owned houses in a village, and he is a shaman. Some similarities are that we both think that the old eskimo ways are good, and we both like to see beautiful things. I think that the older eskimo ways were good, because it seem more interactive, and it seemed like it brought people closer together. Before Russel goes on his journey Oogruk asks him to bring him out to the frozen ocean and that is something I would want to see in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So twenty dogs sled teams relayed the serum from the town of Nenana to Nome. The hardships of the dogs and mushers went through along with the hero dogs, and teams of mushers and dogs will forever be alive in Alaskan history. This journey is a gratifying accomplishment and a proud moment in Alaskan history. There were twenty teams of dogs varying from seven dogs to twenty–three dogs with a total of over a hundred dogs running from town to town carrying a life saving serum to the people of Nome. These teams of dogs carried the antiserum from Nenana to Nome. William Shannon picked up the serum in Nenana from the steam train that had brought it from Anchorage. As the first team to handle the serum they took off with a fast start. The lead dog Blackie guided the team fifty–two miles from Nenana to Tolovana. They serum was passed from musher to musher until Edgar Kalland picked the serum up in Nine Mile he was the seventh musher to have the serum. He took the serum to Kokrines through temperatures of forty–four degrees below zero. Another musher that handled the serum through harsh conditions was, Charlie Evans. He took the serum thirty miles from Bishop Mountain to Nulato. It was negative sixty–four degrees on the trail when he had the serum. Spitz was, as some would say, his last stepping stone before becoming Lead Dog. The most important factor about Dave is his death. You can tell that being a sled dog is important when Dave continued to pull while sick. Billee and Joe paid their lives to the frozen north. Billee was torn to pieces by Spitz and Joe falls through the ice and freezes to death. Buck had to beat Spitz physically and Sol–leks intimately. I do not see myself as an associate with Hal. Hal is very violent, impatient, and foolish. Charles and Hal are pretty much the same except Charles is more passive than Hal. Mercedes is the only female character in the story and in my opinion is very pampered. Buck was stolen from his home in California and forced into dog slavery. This mean that Buck must now pull a heavy sled for thousands of miles across the country to get to the destination of the leader of the dog pack, Dawson. Buck was very shy at the beginning because he had never done anything in that state of work before. Buck was beginning to have dreams about the primitive. Buck became involved in a rivalry between him and the lead dog Spitz. Buck was able to defeat Spitz and become lead sled dog for the pac. Buck and Thornton became very connected. They were so close that they took and adventure together. Buck is faced with a dilemma of whether to stay with Thornton or kill things. Buck was deciding whether to be wild or tame. These dogs must be built well and have a lot of stamina in order to pull the load. First, I will tell you about Samoyeds, then Huskies, and lastly Malamutes. Samoyeds are fluffy white dogs that live about 12 to 13 years. They normally grow up to 32 to 55 lbs. in weight and 19 to 24 inches tall. How do you take care of Samoyeds? Samoyeds are pretty easy to take care of, as they are quite smart and not as hard to train as teeny–tiny dogs. The younger the Samoyed, the less it eats and vice–versa. You should never allow a grown Samoyed to become overweight, otherwise the dog will be sad. The adaptability of this particular dog is great, it will adapt well to most things. The friendliness of this dog is amazing, as it has an all–around amazing personality. Minho, who is a character in The Maze Runner, kept striving to make sure that he would escape the maze while keeping the Gladers safe. Buck, whom is also from The Call of the Wild, had to adapt and fight to lead his team in the North. However, all three were very determined to follow what they believe because of their strong will. John Thornton undertook the mission of saving Buck and then trying to do what no one had done before, make it to the lost mine of the north. Minho and many of the other Gladers, through their strong will, eventually safely escaped the Maze. Buck was a ferocious dog who was determined to lead his sled dog team in the Klondike region of the north in the best–seller The Call of the Wild. • 10. The Role Of Social Darwinism In The Call Of The Wild Jack London's The Call of the Wild is a novel written during the literary era of Naturalism. It is about a pampered dog, Buck, who was thrown into the Alaskan wilderness and becomes part of a team of sled dogs. Eventually, he becomes the leader of a wolf pack. Naturalism takes place during a time in America known as the Gilded Age. During the Gilded Age, the ideas of Social Darwinism take hold. It is during this time that "call of the wild" strengthens in Buck, and he goes into the forest and befriends a wolf. When Buck returns, he finds out that Yeehat Indians have killed everyone at the campsite. As a result of Buck's sheer rage at finding Thornton dead, he kills some of the Yeehats and then becomes the leader of a wolf pack. According to the article American Naturalism: A Webliography and E –Anthology, determinism is a common theme in Naturalism. It is the belief that actions and events are determined by outside forces. Atavism can arguably be one of these forces, as it is the tendency to revert back to the primitive ("Atavism"). Another theme in Naturalism is Darwinism, which stems into Social Darwinist beliefs. One of their beliefs is in laissez–faire capitalism, which is a type of economy in which the government does not interfere with businesses with matters such as tariffs and regulations. They advocated it because "they believed that government should not interfere in the 'survival of the fittest' by helping the poor..." ("Social Darwinism in the Gilded Age"). The survival of the fittest plays a big role in Social Darwinism because they believed that "businessmen and others who were economically and socially successful were so because they were biologically and socially 'naturally' the fittest" and that "...they reasoned that the poor were 'naturally' weak and unfit..." Morality In Jack London's The Call Of The Wild Jack London, in his book 'The call of the wild', portrays, that the strongest, smartest, and the one who is not shy of compromising their morals in the wilderness, will always prosper. • 34. Iditarod Trail Race Title Throughout the world, many people play and compete in many different kinds of sports to meet new people, create new friendships, be a part of a team, compete against others, or to simply have fun. No other sport can be described quite like the Iditarod. The Iditarod Trail Race is often described as "the last great race", and the race lives up to its well–known description. Mushers and their team of sled dogs compete in a race where they are pitted up against nature, wildlife, and the elements. The Alaskan Iditarod Trail Race is a brutal and challenging race with erratically frigid weather conditions, but despite the cold, mushers and their team of committed sled dogs face the difficult challenges with eager anticipation and unmatched ... All of the people seen in the photograph are all wearing heavy looking coats, and most are wearing hats and gloves. The enthusiastic anticipation as the race begins is unrivaled. It can be seen in the substantial number of people bordering the sides of the crowded snowy street, in the faces and eyes of the dogs as they pull the sled, and in the overall atmosphere of the photograph. The undisguised determination seen in the musher and his team of dogs is without a doubt. The strong stare of the right lead dog, the vigorous endeavor made by the black and tan dog in the third row from the back, the overall team effort made by each of the sled dogs, and the proud stance the musher all show how much determination the team has for the race and in each other. One of Francois and Perrault's dogs were attacked by one of the dogs that were considered savages in the town of Dyea Beach. The the wolfish creature of a dog jumped on Curly and ripped her face open from eye to jaw and killed Curly. In the movie it does not show Curly was killed it does not even talk about a dog named Curly. In chapter 3 of the book Buck killed Spitz the other dog. The reason buck killed him was because Spitz went to attack Buck then they were attacking each other and buck ended up killing spitz. In the movie buck also killed Spitz over food cause, Spitz tried to take his food. In chapter 3 of the book it is also telling about a trip to deliver mail that they made in record time. Something that the movie did not talk about that the movie did is no wolves attacked Francois and Perrault's camp. There was not a fight between the Black Burton and John in the bar in the movie but there was in the story. The money and distance were wrong and it was on mud instead of ice and snow. • 37. Call Of The Wild Research Paper The great author Stephen King once said, "As a nation, we've been through too many fights to preserve our rights of free thought to let them go just because some prude with a highlighter doesn't approve of them." As the opposition might say, material such as The Call of the Wild are too mature for 8th grade students. But, for many reasons I believe such material is very fitting for an 8th grade curriculum. First, it is a wonderful example of American literature with many great morals. Secondly, it explores many historical topics about America's history. Lastly, banning one book will only lead to the banning of other books. The first topic I will discuss is how The Call of the Wild is a wonderful piece of American Literature. The Call ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The book is set in the time period of the Klondike Gold Rush which started about 1896. Many people were desperate to strike it rich, for there was a depression in the lower 48 at the time. In the book we are shown Buck being taken to the Yukon to be asled dog. As it says in the plot summary, "...the mail carrier sells them to a group of American gold hunters––Hal, Charles, and Mercedes." This shows how Buck was thrown around between owners which was common, because the demand for sled dogs was very high. All of these examples are historically accurate and can teach a student a lot about life during the Klondike Gold Rush. On the other hand, the opposing claim may say, history is taught in a History class and is not taught in English class. In my opinion, history is what makes literature come alive. It challenges the reader to learn more about the time period and how it relates to the story. Along with that, many famous books such as "The Adventures of Huckleberry Fin" and "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" are all directly related to a specific time in history. In all, the historical setting of The Call of the Wild makes it a fine novella to use in any 8th grade curriculum. Lastly, I will look at how if one book gets banned it may lead to many other books being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Bone Or Chappie In Russell Banks's Rule Of The Bone Bone or Chappie is the main character in the novel "Rule of the Bone" Written by Russell Banks. Bone is a fourteen–year–old teenager, who fails out of school; his life was a total mess for many reasons. Although he was so young, still he was already hooked on drugs consequently crimes, one of the major issues that have enormous impact on his life is that his stepfather was abusing him secretly without his mother knowing anything about it, Bone didn't tell his mother anything not even an inkling even though they live in the same house. He is the product of a broken family, sexual abuse, drugs, and parental apathy. Until now, it sounds undoubted dark picture, but the bright side of the picture is what I like about Bone, that he never gave up his life and constantly in search of himself or I self like how I–man like to phrase it so to speak. Creative chaos could lead a terrible situation into a success; suffering is not always a dreadful path because it could turn into strength. What does not kill you only going... You can tell that "White Fang is told in the third person because it is told by somebody who is not in the story and uses words like he and they. In my opinion, this book was good and filled with action, but I think they could have improved it by adding more details about the antagonists. The antagonists of White Fang are Lip–Lip and the other sled dogs, who fought him all the time when he was young. Kiche, White Fang's mother, who in the beginning fought Bill and Henry for food. Beaty Smith can also be considered an antagonists because he mistreated him. These dogs and people are also central to the plot of the story. Lip–Lip was a sled dog, who didn't like White Fang right off the bat, and the same for the other dogs because at this time Lip–Lip was the leader and they followed him and stuck with him. Kiche was a dog that belonged to Grey Beaver's brother that passed away. She was just a regular dog. Then there was Grey Beaver, who was an alcoholic and sold White Fang to Beauty Smith.
