Team/Department Meetings
Looking Back and Looking Forward
The middle of the school year is the perfect time to take stock of
our work with students to date. Taking stock at this point in the
year can also help us refocus our instructional priorities for the
remainder of the school year. The purpose of these collaborative
grade level team meetings is to refresh and clarify the learning we
expect our students to be able to demonstrate in relationship to
state assessments.
Using the released test questions and, estimate how many students
in your classes could answer each question correctly, right now.
Express that number as a fraction e.g. 10/20. (Note: not all students
would be expected to answer all the questions correctly at this
point in the year.)
Predict how many students will be able to answer each question
correctly by the time the test is administered, having received
planned instruction and additional support. Express this number as
a fraction, e.g. 15/20
At this meeting, clarify what teaching strategies or re-
teaching/additional support strategies will follow by content
standard or skill to strengthen performance on the STAR test for
your students.
Preview selected release test questions with your students as
appropriate. What skills and concepts are on the teaching horizon
for your students?
