Preliminary Task Progression– Evidence
Front Cover
Step-by-step
First I started out by placing the
masthead for the school magazine. I
used a large font and bold colours to
make it eye catching. I then went on to
all smaller things such as the date and
issue as well as the school logo and
motto.
I then moved onto adding the cover lines on
each side and used the same colours of the
school logo (dark red and light blue) I did this
to keep the colour scheme consistent. I then
added a small black bar down the left side of
the page and added to small black boxes on
the top and bottom of the left corners
Preliminary Task Progression– Evidence
Front Cover
Step-by-step
I then added a picture of a 6th form student studying in a medium close
shot as well as social network sites such as Facebook, Twitter and
YouTube to draw in young teens attention as they are users of these
social networks. I also added a website address so that people could
read it on the go on their phones or tablets. Finally I added gradient
overlay using a blue that went to dark to light. I felt this was effective as
it went nicely with the red masthead and kept the school colours
consistent
Preliminary Task Progression– Evidence
Front Cover
Step-by-step
I started but placing black and white
lines over the page to make sections
where I would place images and
writing. I also added the text contents
and added the school logo.
I then added more images such as the
crucifix, Miss Bacon, Ofsted logo and
social media site logos and finally a
picture of the north site building. I
then went on to fill the page with
contents pages and information
Preliminary Task Progression– Evidence

Step-by-step
Finally I added some small captions under the social
media sites and added the date and issue. Finally I
added a light blue background and added red boxes
around some of the writing to keep the colour
scheme consistent thought the magazine
Main Task Progression– Evidence
Front Cover
Step-by-step
Before I put in the main image I placed
the Masthead and enlarged it to make it
stand out. Then went on to add the cover
lines, and the date and issue number. I
then went on to add the black bar down
the left hand side of the page and added
the magazine web address
After putting down the basic layout of the front cover I
went and added the main image. Originally I didn't’t
want more than two cover lines but I added one more
to make sure the page didn't look plan in the left side. I
also added a strap line under the masthead and also
gave the masthead some colour. I went on to add the
bar code, price and an exclusive down load from iTunes.
After this I added the main stories title about Daniel
Lawrence with a small quote underneath
After placing the main parts of the front cover I went on to add
some colour and other things. As the Rolling Stone magazine was
my inspiration magazine I tried to keep to their colours of Red,
black and white. I changed the colour of the masthead to red like
the rolling stone and added some white and black boxes around
the cover lines and other text on the page. I felt the price was
hard to see so I enlarged it and moved it up. Using DAFont I
created the text ‘Gemini’ and used it to replace the original main
story title, I then went on to add the social media logo’s along
with the magazines social media sites. After this I added a circle
around the exclusive download and made a spray paint effect
around the circle.
As the rolling stone magazine was my inspiration I tried
to make my masthead similar so instead of having it
just red I added white and black behind it and made it
look like a shadow was behind it as this matched the
main images shadow.. I also moved the price back to its
original place and added a black box around it. I was
not happy with the Gemini text so I replaced it with a
new story and stuck to the colour scheme of white,
then I created another shadow effect to make the page
link together.
Main Task Progression– Evidence
Contents Page
Step-by-step
To start off I used the same colour scheme of red, white
and black. I re used the same colour’s and text as the
masthead on the front cover to make the masthead for
the contents. I used the same idea of using boxes
behind the text to bring out the text and white
colour’s.
After placing the basics down on the page I added pictures
and an editorial. Since the front cover and double page
spread all had a brick wall background I decided to add it
on the contents as well. I then added white boxes around
the white texts to bring them out. The pictures look plan so
I added white and black boxes around them to make them
stand out as it looks like they are popping out of the boxes.
After this I added the final touches of the social media
websites and the page number. I was not happy with the
way the bricks looked as a background for the contents so I
changed it to a light grey.

Rolling Stone
Rolling Stone, biweekly American magazine that reports on
music, pop culture and politics. The Rolling Stone magazine
was founded in San Francisco 1967 by Jan Wenner and Ralph
Gleason. The first ever issue of the Rolling stone magazine
was published on 9th November 1967 with John Lennon as
star appeal on the front cover. The Magazine effectively
combined passion and professionalism, using both proper
English and street slang. Many well know writer and
journalists such as Hunter S. Thompson, Cameron Crowe and
Lester Bangs all started their careers with the Rolling Stones.
As the magazine increasingly came define significant trends
and discerning tastes in rock and pop music, appearances on
its coveted by established as well as up-and-coming
musicians as emblems of critical success. In effort to
enhance its image, the magazine moved offices to New York
in 1977.
Code and conventions
Masthead- The Masthead is unique
to every magazine and is what a
magazine will be remembered by, by
the audience.
Cover Lines- Cover lines are
used to quickly inform the
audience about other stories
inside the magazine. They
usually focus on the more
popular artists or stories.
Star Appeal-A well know star is place
on the front cover and usually takes up
most of the page with a close to
medium shot. This is done so it grabs
the audiences attention as they will
know the star and may be interested
in the issue
Barcode
Date and price- The date and price is usually
put in the top or bottom corners of the
magazine. This is done to inform the audience
of the price and date of the magazine as well
as the issue number.
Target Audience – Katz, Maslow, Hartley and/or socio-economic needs
The target audience of the Rolling Stone magazine is a young and very
mainstream audience of 15-24 year olds, with the magazine content being
largely popular culture often focusing on actors, television and pop music.
What is the USP of this magazine? YOU MUST refer to specific
conventions/stories from you research
From the research completed into this media product, I think the USP is Billie
Bob as star appeal as he takes up most of the front cover therefore being the
main attention of this page.
