How does your media product represent a particular social group
1. How does your media product representaparticular social group?
A social group is when two or more people who interact with one another share similar
characteristics and collectively have a sense of unity. The social group that I aimed to target
were mainly young black females who had a love for Jazz music, or even wanted to no more
about Jazz music. I did this because I wanted to break away from the typical conventions of
a Jazz magazine, this is due to the fact that most existing Jazz magazines are not usually
targeted at younger females.
My media product uses different techniques to attract a particular social group. These
techniques include the model used on my front cover, double-page spread and contents
page, the language used, and the colour scheme.
All three pages of my media product include images of Jazz artist Jwande who is a young
black female herself. This represents the social group I that I intended to attract, this is as
she is similar to them, this is beneficial as the social group that I aim to attract may be more
interested in my media product and would find it more attractive.
The social class is not an important element in my media product, even though the model
use in my media product looks middle class. However even though I have not included
images of a working person on in my media products, it does not mean that my media
product is restrictive to those who are not middle class.
The colour scheme used on three of my media products are:
The colour scheme used throughout my three media products are blue, dark pink, white and
black. These are all simple colours, most importantly they are not too colourful. I did this
because I wanted to give my media product more a formal tone and to not make it too
cheap looking. Also when I did do some research on existing Jazz magazines I found that
these were colour schemes they tended to have.
