This study was undertaken to investigate and compare the sympathetic cardio vascular parameters in age matched overweight, underweight and normal weight school going boys in southern Odisha. 75 Boys between age group of 12-16 were subjected to study out of which 25 were overweight (BMI>25), next 25 were underweight(BMI<18.5),rest 25 were control group having normal BMI. Cold pressure test and hand grip dynamometer test were performed and blood pressure was measured during and after the tests as measures of cardiovascular parameter. Baseline SBP and MAP were significantly higher in overweight boys & lower in underweight boys. Maximum rise of SBP, DBP & MAP during hand grip dynamometer test were significantly higher in overweight boys & lower in underweight boys. Increase in SBP & MAP from their basal value during cold pressure test were significantly lower in overweight boys & higher in underweight boys. Thus it is concluded that both overweight & underweight boys have derangement of sympathetic cardiovascular function. SBP- Systolic blood pressure, DBP- Diastolic blood pressure , MAP- Mean arterial pressure

Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a chronic condition that happens when the heart’s muscle becomes too damaged to adequately pump the blood around your body. The main objective of this study was to modeling the longitudinal pulse rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure measurements from congestive heart failure patients under follow up at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital. This retrospective cohort study was based on secondary data obtained from Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital. Modeling approach of longitudinal data analysis was applied by suing Linear Mixed Models to identify risk factors and to compare efficiency of the models. Fit statistics showed that the joint model resulted in better fit to the data than the separate models, implying a significant association among the two end points. Based on the joint model for SBP, diagnosis history, family history, NYHA class, and time, and for DBP, age, weight, sex, family history, NYHA class, and time are the significant factors, at 5% level of significance. The joint model fitted the data better than the separate models. The result from the joint model suggested a strong association between the evolutions and a slowly increasing evolution of the association between PR and RR also, between SBP and DBP. Thus, fitting joint model is recommended for researches to any types of multivariate response variable together jointly.

Because of such a high consumption level, any risky impact of these pills on public health would be important. The present study aimed to determine the relationship between consumption of OCPs and hypertension. Method: In this retrospective, cross-sectional study, 165women below 40 years of age who used OCPs were selected by convenience sampling. Necessary information was obtained by a checklist containing demographic information, obstetric history, and OCPs use history based on the subjects’ medical records. Besides, blood pressure and weight were measured at the beginning of OCPs consumption as well as 6 months and one year after that. Results: The results showed a significant difference between the subjects’ mean systolic blood pressure one year after OCPs consumption compared to the beginning (P=0.03). Moreover, this difference was related to the type of pills, such a way that it was significant in the patients who took Low Dose (LD) OCPs compared to those who used Triphasic pills (P=0.01). Conclusion: Consuming the currently available OCPs that contain lower estrogen content had an insignificant effect on blood pressure. However, it is recommended to take care of blood pressure in order to identify the unique occasional responses.

The prevalence and severity of obesity is increasing dramatically among children and adolescents in many parts of the world, whereas prevalence rates are estimated to increase in the next decades [1]. In children, excess body fat appears to be strongly associated with the clustering of risk factors, such as hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and hypertension, which play a key role in the pathogenesis of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) [2]. Obesity and the MetS risk in children have been recently associated with systemic inflammatory markers, in particular C-reactive protein (CRP) [3, 4], implying that low-grade inflammation can already exist in childhood and may be a potential link between the obesity and the MetS. Among behavioral variables, cardiorespiratory fitness has a protective role in MetS and inflammatory factors; however, it is not entirely clear if the interrelations among cardiorespiratory fitness, MetS risk, and inflammation in children are independent or partly due to the mediating effect of obesity, since the existing data are limited and equivocal [5, 6]. Recent evidence indicates that the prevalence rates of childhood obesity in Greece remain high [1, 7] and often coexist with low cardiorespiratory fitness [8] and an unfavorable cardiometabolic risk profile [9]. For the Greek pediatric population these data suggest an increased cardiovascular morbidity in adulthood, given that highrisk children and adolescents are likely to become highrisk adults [10]. Although the relationship among obesity and dyslipidemia in Greek children has been thoroughly investigated [9, 11], there is a paucity of data regarding the clustering of metabolic risk factors, inflammation, and their relationship with cardiorespiratory fitness. The present study was undertaken in an attempt to investigate the prevalence of theMetS and examine the associations among cardiorespiratory fitness, MetS risk, and CRP in 11-year-old children.

Abstract— Anemia in pregnancy is commonly considered as risk factor for poor pregnancy outcome and can threaten the maternal and fetal life also. So this present cases control study was carried at R. K. Joshi District Hospital Dausa (Rajasthan) India, with the aim to find out the effect of anemia in Antenatal period on pregnancy outcomes. For this study, 50 Antenatal Cases (ANCs) with anemia were selected as study group among ANCs attending for delivery in district hospital Dausa. For control group age and BMI matched 50 normal healthy ANCs without anemia were selected from the same area. ANCs with any other diseases were excluded from the study. It was found in this study that although proportion of ANCs with LSCS, PPH and Sepsis were higher in anemic ANCs but it was not found significant. Likewise IUGR, LBW babies, premature births and still births were more in anemic ANCs but it was found significant only in case of LBW babies. So it can be concluded that anemia in ANCs effect weight of newborn babies born by ANC with anemia.

Received for publication January 29, 2004; accepted for publication June 25, 2004. The influence of breastfeeding on blood pressure in later life is uncertain. The authors conducted a systematic review of published studies from which estimates of a mean difference (standard error) in blood pressure between breastfed and bottle-fed subjects could be derived. They searched MEDLINE and Excerpta Medica (EMBASE) bibliographic databases, which was supplemented by manual searches of reference lists. Fifteen studies (17 observations) including 17,503 subjects were summarized. Systolic blood pressure was lower in breastfed compared with bottle-fed infants (pooled difference: –1.4 mmHg, 95% confidence interval (CI): –2.2, –0.6), but evidence of heterogeneity between study estimates was evident (χ216 = 42.0, p < 0.001). Frequency Measures Used in Epidemiology Introduction In epidemiological studies, many qualitative variables have only two possible categories, such as Alive or dead Case or control Exposed and unexposed The frequency measures for dichotomous variable include: Ratio Proportion Rate ( All the above 3 measure are based on the same formula: ) Ratios, Proportion, and Rates Compared In a ratio, the values of x and y may be completely independent from each other or x is a part of y For example , the gender of the children attending a specific program could be compared in one of the following ways: Proportion is a ratio in which X is included in Y For example , the gender of the children attending a specific program Rate is a proportion that measures the occurrence of an event in a population over time Rate = X Ratios, Proportion, and Rates Compared Example 1: The following table was part of an article published by Dr. Mshana and his colleagues. The title of this study is “Outbreak of a novel Enterobacter sp. carrying blaCTX-M-15 in a neonatal unit of a tertiary care hospital in Tanzania. ". Please use this table to answer the following questions. Source: Mshana SE, Gerwing L, Minde M, Hain T, Domann E, Lyamuya E, et al. The 1989 mid-year U.S. civilian population was estimated to be 246,552,000. What is the 1989 gonorrhea incidence rate for the U.S. civilian population? (For these data we will use a value of 105 for 10n ). Answer: Incidence rate = X Incidence rate = X = 297.4 per 100,000 6 Measures of association: They are used to quantify the relationship between exposure and disease among two groups They are used to compare the disease occurrence among one group with the disease occurrence in the another group They include the following measures based on the study design: Risk Ratio (RR): It also called relative risk It is used to compare the risk of health related events in two groups The following formula cis used to calculate the RR: A risk ratio of 1.0 indicates identical risk in the two groups A risk ratio greater than 1.0 indicates an increased risk for the numerator group A risk ratio greater than 1.0 ...

Hypertension is one of the upward health related challenge in Bangladesh and hypertension in young generation is increasing but there is a shortage of data about the risk factors in this age group. The aim was to evaluate and approximation the frequency of some common risk factors of hypertension among young generation living in Dhaka city. It was a crosssectional study; conducted during March 2016 to June 2016 in Dhaka city. Data were collected by face-to-face interview after verbal informed consent by a survey questionnaire and stress was measured by Perceived Stress Scale and analyzed by SPSS version 16. The study was conducted on 150 (n=150) young adults where 76% were male and 24% were female and their mean age was 22.13 and 23.33% of them were overweight and only 1(n=1) was obese and 44% of them took average amount of junk food while 14% took huge amounts and 59.33% of them had family history of hypertension and 70.66% of them were in high stress. The mentioned age range shows a good amount of predominance of hypertension probably indicating a hidden epidemic. It is needed to improve the measures of key anticipation and early detection of hypertension among young generation

Anemia refers to low hemoglobin (Hb) level and is a risk factor of cancer patient survival. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network recently suggested that post-diagnosis Hb change, regardless of baseline Hb level, indicates the potential presence of anemia. However, there is no epidemiological study evaluating whether Hb change has direct prognostic values for cancer patients at the population level.

Dr NAVEEN GOKUL R, BDS This document explores the innovative integration of Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology in the field of prosthodontics, particularly in the fabrication of dentures. It discusses the evolution of traditional denture-making techniques and the benefits offered by CAD/CAM systems in terms of precision, customization, efficiency, and patient satisfaction. Additionally, it highlights the impact of CAD/CAM dentures on clinical workflows, prosthetic design, material selection, and patient outcomes. Through a comprehensive review of current research and clinical applications, this document aims to provide insights into the transformative role of CAD/CAM technology in modern prosthodontics. Introduction: The field of prosthodontics has witnessed remarkable technological advancements in recent years, with CAD/CAM systems revolutionizing the way dentures are designed and manufactured. Traditional methods of denture fabrication often involved multiple manual steps, leading to inconsistencies in fit, aesthetics, and functionality. CAD/CAM technology has overcome these limitations by enabling digital workflows that streamline the entire process, from initial impression-taking to final prosthesis delivery. This document explores the evolution of CAD/CAM dentures, their advantages over conventional techniques, and their implications for both clinicians and patients. Evolution of CAD/CAM Dentures: Historically, the fabrication of dentures relied heavily on manual techniques, such as hand waxing, flasking, and processing. While these methods served their purpose, they were labor-intensive, time-consuming, and prone to errors. The introduction of CAD/CAM technology revolutionized the field by introducing digital workflows that optimize every stage of the denture-making process. Initially used for crown and bridge restorations, CAD/CAM systems were later adapted for removable prosthodontics, including complete and partial dentures. Today, CAD/CAM dentures represent the pinnacle of precision and customization in prosthodontic care. Benefits of CAD/CAM Dentures: CAD/CAM dentures offer numerous advantages over traditional fabrication techniques. One of the primary benefits is enhanced precision, as digital impressions and virtual design tools enable clinicians to achieve optimal fit and aesthetics. Moreover, CAD/CAM systems facilitate greater customization, allowing for individualized tooth morphology, occlusal schemes, and gingival contours. This level of personalization enhances patient comfort and satisfaction while minimizing the need for adjustments post-insertion. Additionally, CAD/CAM technology enables efficient chairside or laboratory-based production, reducing turnaround times and enhancing productivity for dental practices. Clinical Applications and Workflow Integration: The integration of CAD/CAM technology into clinical practice
