Night Shift Officers Happen At Night
No matter what time of the day or night, officers can be called onto a scene and they will arrive. Night shift officers stay awake all night and have a
complete opposite work and sleep schedule than most people. More crime is likely to happen at night because criminals know that the majority of
people in a city are asleep at night, so their risk of getting caught is lower. Although, police officers have to respond and act when crime happens, even
at night. Day shift officers encounter the same risk of danger than night shift officers. More wrecks and traffic stops occur during daylight hours, so
they do more physical interaction and work. Many officers work twelve hour shifts so literally half of their week is spent working. Officers do not

Night Shift Nurses and Anxiety
Introduction
As a CNA working occasional night shifts, I noticed the difference in behaviors between those nurses who worked strictly nights versus those who
were strictly days. I then questioned if there would be a correlation between those nurses who worked night shift and anxiety. Most nurses who work
night shift experience a different type of environment than those in day shfit as day shift is more on their feet as the patients are awake. While
exploring the different correlations, I remained curious as to if there was a correlation between the nurses behaviors and working night. I feel like if I
knew the correlation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More specifically, it focused on those new to working night shifts and those who have worked that shift for several years. (Saksvik–Lehouillier, 2012,
p.1136) The study went into detail about how each group could tolerate the shift work. Especially since working shifts can be related to many different
negative health consequences. Some negative consequences could be anxiety, depression, insomnia and fatigue. In conclusion it explains how there is
no difference between the groups toleration but rather that there are ways to improve the tolerance. Especially since there is some correlation between
the negative effects and working a night shift. Some of the ways include, applying personality tests, couselling about the occupation and educating.
(Saksvik–Lehouillier, 2012, p.1144)
Recommendations
In my first article, I would recommend a further investigation and comparison between day shift and night shift. I personally would recommend that
while there was no direct correlation, the results could vary on the nurses history and how the nurse copes with various things. My second article
focused more on how to better tolerate working at night. The study explains that working this type of shift can have negative health

Collapse Essay
Prior to the collapse, Dew and I had joined Bally's gym downtown at 15th and Market. Our goal was to stay healthy and spiritual. Our minds were
focused on the after hustling aspect of life and more into accepting Islam once we got finished in the game. I would bring a Yusuf Ali Quran with
me to the gym and sit in the jacuzzi and sauna and just read some small chapters until I was ready to leave. My mind was at peace. I met one Muslim
brother who used to sell perfumes who used to drop science on me in the locker room. A bald–headed young black lifeguard used to buss it up with me
while I was in the pool sometimes reading the Quran. Every day is a hustle and another chance to better yourself.
I'd go down South Philly to check my man Pone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I complained to Pone. Pone already told me the deal before, but I didn't listen. He said to me to only come out there when he was there. He tried to
get my stuff back to no avail. I acknowledged my mistake and moved on. If I ever came down there to hustle, I never came without Pone again.
Back up North Philly was a whole different story. The grind was much more relaxed although you had to be on your P's and Q's. North Philly is a
gold mine for all types of hustles and grinds. I began working a certain corner with Dee and some of his peoples. As mentioned before, that most of us
agreed that this hustling stuff was temporary and that Islam would be our savior once we got this money and stepped out of the game. You wouldn't
see anyone from the corner attracting attention by buying fancy cars, clothes, or bling. If you came upon us, you only would see normal guys looking
like they were conversing. As long as there weren't any problems, then the neighbors were cool and kept quiet about things. You had to be respectful,
courteous, and charitable to keep the love going. They only wanted peace on the block. They would salute you, embrace you, and even help you out.
They would warn you from the cops, stick up boys, or even from their own friends. Most people on that block weren't addicts, so you just had to
maintain a respectful and mutual relationship with them.
I played the corner at times depending on the day, but never stood idle. Keep your back to the

Day Shift Vs. Night Nurses
Day shift vs. Night shiftAs nurses pursue their careers, they are often faced with the challenge of picking what shifts to work. Both day and night shifts
have their own advantages and disadvantages and so when choosing a shift many factors are put into consideration. Night shifts have physiological
effects to the body. One of these effectsis due to the disturbances in the circadian rhythm. A bundle of cells in the anterior hypothalamus, known as the
suprachiasmatic nucleus, function as the pacemaker for these rhythms.(Urden, Stacy, & Lough, 2015) The circadian clockis like a timer that lets
various glands know when to release hormones and also control mood, alertness, body temperature. Thecircadian rhythm functions are also influenced

This can be a challenge for night nurses especially when they need to get hold of their managers when they need consultation about certain issues or
policies. Although there may be an administrative supervisor at night, they might be very busy and it may not be easy to get hold of themespecially
when one needs help immediately. In most hospitals there is one house supervisor who is in charge of everything during night shift. If multiple units
or floors need help at the same time, the house supervisor is not able to help both units at the same time. He or she is to pick what unit has the most
crucial needs. Dayshift to has a lot of employees available these include managers and supervisors. This makes it easier to get help during the day
compared to nights. Night shift tends to have more new graduate nurses and fewer resources than day shifts.(Mensik & Sigma Theta Tau International,
2012)Itis important to ensure that each night shift has an expert that can help with triage or incase if a patient starts to deteriorate. Expert nurses can
help the new nurses better manage their patient load and also provide mentored experience. Resource nurses, who are experts and have the experience
and competency to assist the new graduate nurses, tend to be very helpful. Day shift has more expert nurses who have a lot of experiencecompared to
nights. An advantage of this is that they are able to make decisions faster due to lots of experience especially if its in an emergency situation.Night shift
has several psychological effects on night workers. This includes restlessness, sleepiness on the job, fatigue, and decreasedattentionand disruption of the
body's metabolic process. These effects not only affect the nigh shift workers but also the community at large. For example when a night shifter leaves
work in the morning feeling

Personal Narrative: My Night Shift At Taco Bell
Once one night I had to work the night shift at Taco Bell. Other people who had worked there before me said that if you listened closely you could
hear a soft banging noise on the walls. Some people ran for their lives other people never walked out of that Taco Bell and the police never found
them. I feared nothing and those were all just myths anyways. Later I realized I was very very wrong. The boss gave me instructions for what to
expect and a weak flashlight for me to use which I knew I wouldn't be able to use considering the weak light it produced. I took it anyways, I mean
besides, I might have to use it to check the place out. The boss left and there I was in the dining area, alone. The place looked horrendous. It seriously
looked like someone just threw up whole bits of food everywhere, and don't even get me started on the bathrooms. Anyways I was there, alone,
walking around and was starting to wonder why they didn't put any cameras around the place. Just then I heard a soft... Show more content on

play." I held my breath and didn't say a word. "I know your in here." he said, "I'm gonna get you!" At that point I passed out. The next day, I woke
up to find people standing above me. "What happened?" one of them said "I have no clue," I replied. "We called the police and they are on their
way." Once the police got here they asked me a lot of questions and I replied "I don't know" to about almost all of them. After they were finished, I
quit my job at Taco Bell and went home. That pale figure still haunts me at night. Sometimes I wake up only to see him say, "One day I will get
you." and disappearing from view. I knew Taco Bell was a disgusting place from the

Does Night Shift Increase Patient Care Errors?
The Burning Question: Does Night Shift Increase Patient Care Errors? A nurse's role is to advocate for the patient, provide care to them and their
families, to do no harm, to promote healthcare and to alleviate suffering (AMA, 2015). With this being said, does working the night shift increase
patient care errors? The human body is regulated by the circadian rhythms that tell the body when to sleep and wake, so does this altered sleep pattern
have a correlation with patient care errors? When nurses work the night shift, this natural rhythm is disrupted and can impact well–being, judgement
and decision making as well as the overall health of the nurse. In the articles presented, there are several thoughts on whether or not the shift change
causes decrease judgement, response time and decision making. Are nurses truly impacted by night shift or are there other variable that impact the
nurse and their physical and emotional health. Are there more patient care errors on the night shift than any other shift? There are several journal
articles that research this very question using Evidence–based practice and PICO. What is Evidence Base Practice and its Role in Health Care? Every
day, nurses are challenged to care for patients using the best methods and best practice. Evidence–based practice (EPB) is defined as using a systematic
approach to problem solving that combines best evidence with a patient preference, clinician's expertise and value (Potter & Perry, 2013). EBP begins

Developing a Staff Recognition Program for Night Shift Nurses
Nurses are some of the hardest working individuals on the planet. They work tirelessly to help those who come through the hospital doors. Often, their
hard work goes unnoticed and unappreciated. This is especially true for nurses who work the night shift.
Fortunately, there are many ways that HR managers can show their appreciation to the hard work that these individuals offer to the hospital. One of the
best ways to do this is by setting up a staff recognition program. Here are a few ways that HR managers can show their appreciation to the nurses of
the night shift.
Gift Cards
These are possibly one of the most valuable things that a person can receive. By giving gift cards to nurses, HR will be providing them with a unique
benefit. With these gift cards, the nurses will be able to reward themselves in a way that will be meaningful and beneficial to them. They are also
helpful because nurses will be able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Offering relaxation rewards, such as additional time for breaks or massages, is a great way to reward hardworking night shift nurses. Not only will this
allow the nurses to have a special reward, but it can also help improve their communication skills, memory and the attention that the offer to patients.
Daytime Outings
Another concern that many HR managers deal with when looking to improve the morale of night–shift nurses is the fact that many deal with feelings
of isolation. Since they are not able to participate in many events that are geared more towards daytime workers, nurses may find that they miss out on
many activities. One way to counteract this situation is to set up outings that night–shift nurses can participate in while they are not working. This
could be a company provided meal or fun activities that the nurses can do together.

A Response To Night Shift : Strawberry Spring Short Story
A Response to Night Shift: Strawberry Spring Short Story Stephen King is the author of many novels and short stories with creepy settings; King
admits that he fears bugs to add to the list of things that freaks him out. One of his earlier short stories from 1976, women at college fall victim to a
"Jack the Ripper" style character. My analysis of King's use of the literary elements, combined with his horror reflected in his short story, "Strawberry
Spring". (The Fact Site, 8 Apr. 2017)
Author Stephen Edwin King was born on September 21, 1947, in Portland, Maine. King is one of the most famous and successful horror writers of all
time. His parents, Donald, and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King, split up when he was young, and he and his brother ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

And his releasing Doctor Sleep (2013) hitting No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list., a sequel to The Shining. (The Fact Site, 8 Apr. 2017,)
The setting in "Strawberry Spring" is March 14, 1976 and begins with a husband recalling his time at college 8 years ago (Saturday, March 16th,
1968). King describes it as the "coldest winter in twenty years" giving way to warm weather causing fog to blanket the town in New England for a
week. He paints a scene of rain causing the air to smell like the sea for 20 miles west of the beaches, the soft drip of water from the ancient gutters as
35 inches of snow turns to slush while ice sculptures melted. (Stephen King – Night Shift)
The plot of the story denouement begins introducing the main characters, King as the unnamed student telling the story and the fog plays the second
main part. Stephen becomes powerless against the need to be around the fog as though it owns him while causing headaches and memory loss. The
action builds as women are murdered; one per night and totaling four.
King adds to the reader's suspense by giving light details of the gruesome murders. The first victim's throat cut from ear to ear. The second tells a
paranormal event with her head decapitated and had been found on a soggy path of ground twelve feet from the nearest sidewalk, and yet there were
no footprints, not even her own. King also describes the 3rd victim murder scene as he left her

The Importance Of Nurses ' Healthiness Is Not Affected By...
However, other studies have found that nurses' healthiness is not undesirably affected by the 12 h shift (Dwyer et al., 2007; Jennings and Rademaker,
1987; Kaliterna and Prizmic, 1998), and some have established that it can essentially have affirmative well–being benefits, comprising a substantial
reduction in individual symptomatology in the areas of overall health, cardiovascular associated illnesses, anxiety and frustration (Eaton and Gottselig,
1980), reduced emotional exhaustion (Stone et al., 2006; van Servellen and Leake, 1994) and consumption more healthily (Freer and Murphy–Black,
1995). One study found that nurses employed 12 h shifts involvement suggestively less compassion tiredness than those working for 8 h (Yoder, 2010).
A smaller quantity of studies have reconnoitered the connection among work hours and the probability of incident or injury to nurses but these too
have self–contradictory results. One study found that the danger of 'drowsy driving' doubled over and the risk of actuality involved in a motor
vehicle crash or near motor vehicle crash nearly doubled when driving followed shifts exceeding 12 and a half hours in period (Scott et al., 2007).
However, additional study found no changes stated in trouble driving home pre and post carrying out of 12 h shifts (Mills et al., 1983). Trinkoff et al.
(2006a) found that employed 13 h or lengthier was considerably related with prevalence of neck, shoulder and back injury/complaint, even though

I Have Your Sunday Night Shift
"Can I have your Saturday night shift? Lilly was sick on Thursday and I need to make up for the hours I lost caring for her." A message like this was
typical during my freshman and sophomore years at university, when I worked with many single mothers who struggled to afford medical care for
their families. If asked then, I would have said I wanted to become a physician so I could help to change the difficult situation of people calculating
the amount of work hours needed to afford medical care. The experiences of my colleagues were not entirely foreign to me, as I remember counting
the amount of hours I needed to work in order to fund graduate and medical school applications and MCAT materials. While the stress from those
experiences does not completely compare to the stress of my colleagues and medical care affordability, I do understand how heavy the burden of
needing enough work hours to cover expenses can be.
If asked after my junior year of college, I would have said I wanted to become a physician so I could provide comprehensive reproductive healthcare
for marginalized groups of people. I would have discussed my fulfilling experiences volunteering in an abortion clinic, and spoken of the nursing
student who, whilst grateful for my professional support, embraced me because she needed to hear that her decision to have an abortion was not
wrong. I would have also talked of the American Medical Student Association Sexual Health Scholars course, and how profoundly moving

12 Hour Shift In Nursing
Nursing is a profession that is known for requiring staff to work nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a duty that most nurses are aware of prior to
going into the field, however, they may not be fully aware of the impact these varied shifts have on personal health and performance. These types of
fluctuating work hours are often referred to as shift work, which is defined by Berger and Hobbs (2006) as shifts taking place aside from the traditional
daytime hours (p. 465). Typical hospital shifts outside of the day shift are usually classified as evening shift or night shift. Some nurses may work
permanent days or nights; however, it is more common for nurses to find themselves rotating between the two shifts. Studies have shown that shift ...

adjusted too well to night shift and on the nights that I didn't have a shift I wasn't able to fall asleep until early morning hours. I also had a hard time
resisting the urge to nap during the days that I had off. As a result, I felt that I spent less time on school work and had much less time for family and
friends. I am glad that I had the opportunity to experience overnight shifts because I plan to work at Rapid City Regional Hospital and they require

Strawberry Spring By Stephen King Analysis
Killer's Perspective
A horror story should have some elements to grab the attention of audience such as suspense and mystery. However, it is a challenge to achieve this
goal especially in a short story, but that did not seem to be an obstacle for Stephen King, who is famous for writing horror fiction stories. Jeffrey W.
Hunter, who is editor of Contemporary Literacy Criticism, believes that Stephen King is a marketing phenomenon for the large number of books he
has sold. One of his first works was "Strawberry Spring," which was published along with other short stories in a book titled Night Shift in 1978. In
the same manner as other Stephen King's writings, "Strawberry Spring" is a story loaded of mystery where death is one of the main components.
The story begins with a narrator's memory about what happened eight years ago when he was in college in 1968. The narrator remembers how a
serial killer who was called Springheel Jack came into action during strawberry spring which is a natural phenomenon that only happens every eight
years. Four young women were murdered in that year. Despite the efforts and investigations of police, the murderer was never caught. After eight
years, the strawberry spring has come back and the killer, as well. Without a doubt, first person narrative point of view, setting, and symbolism are
crucial elements that make "Strawberry Spring" a fascinating story.
To begin with, "Strawberry spring" is a story told in first person. The first person

While completing the leadership style assessment, it seemed to be a race between participatory and free rein leadership style. After adding up the
scores, participatory leadership came out on top. This assessment was accurate do to the fact that it allowed the leader to include the employees and

final say. The employees are free to express their experiences and recommendations. This leads to employees being more skilled, optimistic, satisfied in

My First Night Shift At Rady Children 's Hospital
In the following journal, I will discuss observations that I made and thoughts that I had during my first night shift at Rady Children's Hospital. In
particular, this journal will address the theme of discernment. According to Jenny Gribble, the process of discerning involves wisdom and experience,
as well as observation and biological knowledge. This first shift gave me plenty of opportunities to watch how differently people throughout the
hospital employ their own discernment when assessing situations and making decisions related to patient care. During my first shift, the unit was busy
and there was constant movement on the floor due to the high number of patients in the census. In addition, a rapid response was called on the unit,
which contributed to the feeling that the floor was unusually active. At first I felt intimidated by the atmosphere that resembled chaos but I decided to
jump in and do what I could to help. I figured, the more that was happening, the more opportunities there would be to learn; this was an accurate
assumption. Clinical Experiences The patient I will primarily discuss is a three year old boy who is recovering from a traumatic right cerebral
ischemic stroke with subsequent left sided hemiparesis from an unknown mechanism, which is presumed to be cause by a non–accidental trauma. Due
to his injuries, C.H. underwent a right craniectomy. Since the surgery, he has had a large "flap" on the right side of his head. Social work is doing a lot of

Evaluation Of The Pediatric Manager Martha Mcguire, What...
To All Meeting Participants:
This meeting is called to review the VRMC's question and its relation to the Pediatric Manager Martha McGuire, "What does RIGHT look like"?
I'm not sure of the past practices and relationships between the manager and the employees and the manager and the patients and patents' families. The
Peds manager's behavior I've witnessed on Wednesday December 21st, is unacceptable and simply will not be tolerated.
I cared for 5 patients the previous night. As shift change was approaching, 3 of the 5 asked me who will be the nurses working today. As I provided
them with the answer, the replies were shocking, to me! The parents of the 3 requested that they have another nurse to care for them instead of Martha.
My reply to them was we all aim to provide excellent service. All three parents had similar responses to why they didn't want Martha as their nurse.
This goes to the VRMC's phrase "What does RIGHT look like"?
Do I smile at others in the hallway?
According to these parents, Martha does not. One parent went on to tell me that as they approach the unit they greeted the nurses at the desk. She
stated Martha may not have heard them. She stated that Martha stated in a very disturbing tone EXCUSE ME, Y'ALL COULD SPEAK. I didn't
witness this but it was enough for the parent to request her to not be their caregiver for the day.
Do I project a professional appearance?

Physiologic Effects Of Shift Work On Nurses
Literature review sub title 4
Berger and Hobbs (2006), argued that modifying external factors such as diet and exercise, the amount of shifts worked consecutively, and the food
and beverage intake patterns will reduce the negative health effects associated with shift work on nurses. Some of the main topics that the researchers
focused on are:
1.Basis for biological rhythm
The circadian rhythm is affected for nurses working the shift work. The study mentions that the biological rhythm consists of the external rhythm
which covers meal times, sleep times and social activities, and the internal rhythm which is the circadian rhythm. The fact that the circadian rhythm is
affected with shift work nurses by the difference of night and day sleep time, their social activities and meal times are also affected. This makes it
more difficult for them to adjust with their social life which in itself creates stress. Moreover, stress increases cortisol levels which is a hormone that
regulates the amount of fat stored in the body which makes shift workers gain weight by increasing their BMI.
2.Physiologic effects of shift work
The study here is focused on the melatonin levels, cortisol levels and body temperature in shift workers. Researchers are ... Show more content on

The On The Night Shift
Description: I have been working on the night shift in our ward. Upon arrival from the nurses station at around 2130 and received a handover, the
evening nurse then left at around 2145. The handover was brief and basic; also it tackles all the important points that I need to know about the
patients. After receiving handover from the outgoing nurse, I also received a ward handover as an in charge for the night shift. After completing the
ward handover, I started with my initial rounds into one of my patients. The infusion pump was making a "downstream occlusion" noise, prior to
that during handover, I heard a beeping sounds coming from one of the rooms in our ward but we ignored it. When I pointed the torch into the pump
and examined the IV lines, I noticed that the administration rate of total parenteral nutrition or TPN rate seemed to be different from what was
handed over to me. To make sure that the rate is correct or incorrect, I shuffled through the bedside notes. I looked for the TPN chart and found that
the TPN bag had been changed at around 1700 with a different rate. It was more than four hours after the TPN bag was hung and administered at an
incorrect rate. Feelings: Upon knowing that the TPN was administered at a faster rate, I was concerned and worried in relation to the patient's
observations and electrolytes. The patient was oriented and there were no signs of any electrolyte overdose. The patient was unaware about the error in
the administration of the TPN.

Who Is To Blame For The Night Shift
I agree with the friend. While it was their responsibility to complete the work that came on during their shift, they are not to blame for the stain
deteriorating. I don't think that the supervisor had the right to yell at the friend considering, the night shift was late to work and it was past their
shift and they did not notice that the stain was having issues until after the slide was made. Had the cell stainer had problems earlier in their shift
then it would have been problematic. However, saying that the friend is to blame for the night shift's delay in work and how it could have
compromised patient care, if the night shift had been on time, the whole process might have been taken care of more effectively. I believe there was
too much blame placed on the friend, when really both parties could have been blamed for some parts, so I think it was addressed poorly.
I would tell my friend to talk to the night shift and try to smooth the problem out, but also let them know that you would appreciated if they came on

The Fatigue Associated With Working The Night Shift
The fatigue associated with working the night shift was brought into the spotlight after an aircraft incident that occurred on June 10, 1990. British
Airways flight 5390 had just departed from Birmingham International Airport when the aircraft experienced a rapid pressure loss due to the pilot's
windshield blowing out of the aircraft. This resulted in the pilot being sucked halfway out of the aircraft and another flight crew member grabbing the
pilots belt and holding him from being sucked completely out while the copilot to take control of the aircraft and land it safely at a nearby airport. The
official findings of the accident investigation linked the windshield blowout to the wrong size bolts being installed. The bolts were installed early in the
morning hours and the fatigued shift maintenance manager who installed them didn't recognize that they were the wrong bolts. He thought that the
countersinking on the window was unusually large (Baron, 2009). This is just one example of mistakes made on night shift due to fatigue. Fatigue is a
dangerous human factor that is present in the aircraft maintenance community.
There are ways to mitigate the risk of fatigue, though. It starts with the airline companies themselves. Setting a work schedule that doesn't allow
workers to work more than 12 hours will allow their employees an opportunity to get the rest needed. It is also up to the aircraft maintainers to ensure
that their off duty responsibilities don't interfere

Stephen King Strawberry Spring Speech
"Strawberry Spring" has offered the reader an opportunity to "show that we are not afraid" of facing our fears that often plague our mind (King,
"Why we" 1). Stephen King's stories has kept us on the edge of our seats and awake at night in fear of the Boogeyman waiting in the closet. Our
fears has been the soft areas within our bodies we would never want to be prodded at by another or intense thrillers. At some point, everyone must
face their fears or inevitability of such fears. For example, near the beginning of the narrator's encounter "a junior named John Dancey" stumbled
upon a "dead girl lying in a shadowy corner of the Animal Sciences parking lot" (King, "Strawberry Spring" 2). The explicit imagery used to reveal
the brutality associated with Gale Cerman's demise is truly intriguing and thrilling. Nearly every person spends their life fearing their own inevitable
demise and the death of those around them, the traumatizing description of Gale's death really is "Daring [our] nightmares" (King, "Why We" 1).
"Strawberry Spring" fulfills Stephen King's claim that one reason we watch and read horror is to show "that we are not afraid" (1). Another equally
important claim from Stephen King's essay is to, "re–establish our feelings of essential normality" (King, "Why We Crave" 1). Throughout theshort
story we can relate with the narrator, victims, and the events of "Strawberry Spring". Many details within the story are relatable on a basic level. As a
matter of fact,

Stephen King's 'The Night Shift'
Stephen King, the author of The Boogeyman (1978), wrote a horrific story on how a man describes how his 3 children got murdered. Stephen King
wrote The Night Shift (1978), which The Boogeyman (1978) is in, because he wanted to build his fan base. King published The Night Shift as soon as
he started to get famous. King entertains his readers by writing gruesome and terrifying stories of murders. He attended to scare his audience and he
accomplished that goal. The short story starts out with a man named Lester Billings talking to Dr. Harper about the murders of his children. Billings

It still held its Dr. Harper mask in one rotted, spade–claw hand' (King 1978). The boogeyman ends up killing his children and becoming his

whole time. Stephen King wrote the boogeyman to show how children can see things that adults never could. Children have a lack of reality sense
and imagination which lets them see more and less than adults. The reason why adults usually do not believe children are because children have a
lack of reality sense and imagination which makes them unbelievable. Kings shows that children can see things adults cannot see when he said,
"'the boogeyman, Daddy...boogeyman. Wanna go wif Daddy, go wif Daddy'" (King 1978). King uses specific similes to create an image on how
Billings children to terrify his audience. King uses simile to create an image of Billings' children getting murdered by the boogeyman when he said,
"' I heard it when Andy's neck broke'. Billing's voice was cool and dead. 'It made a sound like ice cracking when you're skating on a country pond in

Foreshadowing In Quitters Inc
Quitters Inc by Stephen King is about Mr. Morrison, an addicted smoker who's friend gives him a business card and tells him to go to the place, he
is told that if he goes there they will help him with his problems. He has an unpleasant experience with them but soon his life changes in a good way.
in the end he meets with his friend just to find out that they had it worse. There are many uses of foreshadowing in the story but the most powerful
one is when he meets Donatti, one of his statements lingers throughout the story. Cigarettes and smoking were not always viewed as something
detrimental, in our era we now know that they can harm you. In the story they are viewed as a symbol for Death. One like Morrison can always be
tempted to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
'But even the unregenerate two percent never smoke again we guarantee it'" According to King, by constantly smoking one can go too far and meet
death itself. Furthermore , what Morrison got himself into means that they will always be watching him. So if he makes the incorrect decision his
loved ones will get punished and he himself will shake hands with the grim reaper. Meeting Donatti really changed Morrison's life, after his first
treatment he knew what was in it for him. In the story Donatti states, "We are Pragmatists." Being a pragmatist refers to someone who is practical
and focused on reaching a goal, now there is no turning back for Morrison. Donatti will do everything at his disposal to help and make Morrison quit
smoking, even if it means inflicting pain, not only directly but indirectly. We can now foreshadow what's going to happen in the future, the fact that he
said that he is a pragmatist and how in the previous paragraph he pulled out a gun and emphasized that they guarantee they won't smoke again, we can
start to think that maybe something terrible is going to happen to him or even a loved one. The fact that we have to connect various pieces of the story
to just this quote makes it the

Character Analysis: The Night Shift
The Night Shift is a medical drama set the emergency room at San Antonio Memorial Hospital which follows the lives of the staff who work the
overnight shift. Three of the main characters are surgeons with ties to the U.S. military and there are armed forces bases located in close proximity to
the hospital. The military experiences influence departmental pressures leading to conflicts and power struggles involving institutional leadership.
Focusing on the power complexities and collaborative efforts of the medical staff, this paper will assess episode six in the first season of the series
from 2014. Dr. TC Callahan is an ex–Army medic with a tendency of going his own way while repeatedly breaking rules and butting heads. TC
watched his brother die on the battlefield and initially after discharge demonstrated PTSD–type symptoms. To further complicate things, his
ex–girlfriend, Dr. Jordan Alexander, is the newly–appointed head of the night shift. Dr. Drew Alister is still active in the Army reserves where he
serves as a medic struggling to hide sexual orientation out of fear of repercussions for himself and his boyfriend who has just returned from a tour in
Afghanistan. Dr. Topher Zia is a surgeon who previously spent a great deal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leadership qualities are present among all members of the team and individuals have varied times for stepping up to the task as needed (Grint,
2010). This is evident in emergency department as the staff each know their roles when crisis descends as in this episode when there is a bus crash
involving several soldiers who had just returned from Afghanistan. All hands are needed and after being assigned their roles, all personnel including
doctors, nurses, and support staff stepped up and worked swiftly to care for the sudden influx of

High ranking executives in US companies play an important role in the generation of policies that promote safe work environments. That means for
ALL the employee, including janitors. Executives have the responsibility to create effective mechanics that will allow them to detect irregularities at

If the problem is not the control and is lying in the performance of the trucks itself he should consider selling truck 3 and buy a new truck that will
perform and earn plus minus the income of truck 2.
In conclusion truck 3 is the newest truck, 1 year and 9 months old, but it has the lowest income earned per round trip and a high fuel and maintenance
cost.
Therefore truck 3 is the least profitable of the three trucks.
Question 5
What advice would you give Jimmy so that he can maintain effective control over his trucks in the future?
Answer
For Jimmy to maintain effective control over his trucks the following is advised:
His trucks need to be maintained regular and on time in order to extend its lifespan and to ensure effective use of the trucks in order to generate
maximum profit.
He must check the millage travelled on each round trip
Jimmy must install tracking devices on each truck to keep track of where the truck is at all times.
The tracking device will help to make sure that the trucks are not misused or abused by the drivers.
The tracking device will also give control over the number of hours of each round trip.
He must make sure that the trucks are properly insured against theft, accidents etc.
Jimmy must make sure that there are proper recording of each truck:

Night Shift
"Napping during breaks on night shift: Critical care nurse managers' perceptions" is a study by Dr. Marie P. Edwards and colleagues that explores the
thoughts and opinions of nurse managers on nurses taking naps during the night shift. This article explores a highly debated topic in nursing that has
both risks and benefits to both the nurse and the patient.
The purpose of this research study was to explore the perception and experiences of critical care nurse managers with their staff's napping practices
during the night shift. This study uses a quantitative method to analyze results from a survey on this topic. As a quantitative study, it would be
expected that there would be an independent and a dependent variable. However, this study does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One concept that is explored is the various sources of evidence that shows that brief naps can improve alertness and performance and enhance safety
of not only nurses, but other people who work shiftwork. They also explored literature that supported the fact that sleep inertia or feeling groggy after
a nap was one potential drawback to napping on the night shift. The researchers also reviewed studies that showed that the effectiveness of naps
depended on their length. According to these studies, ideally the best nap is not too long but not too short. However, none of the other works
reviewed by these authors mentioned anything about managers. While these articles do highlight the potential risks and benefits of sleeping on the
night shift, it is unclear of how these studies related to the variable that is being studied in this study. This study does not provide a clear conceptual
definition of what manager's think. On the positive side, the literature review does give possible explanation of various reasons why a manager might
be for or against napping. As stated above, there is only one variable so the literature review cannot make explicit the relationship between the two
variables or place them in a theoretical framework. The researchers do acknowledge that there are several gaps in the literature. For example, they
commentated that no study had determined the optimal nap time in critical care settings and that

I Work Night Shift At A Hospital As A Patient Care Assistant.
I work night shift at a hospital as a patient care assistant. My role is basically to provide basic care to patients and relieve the registered nurse of
this burden so she can focus on medicating and assessing the heart of the patient's troubles. I have only been honored to work in this profession for a
mere five months now, but in that time, I have cheered on many recoveries and held many hands as the patient went to his final home. It is a very
exhausting job, that sometimes does not feel very rewarding. Every now and then something will remind me just how privileged I am to get to
experience what I have seen at my hospital. Last night was one of those nights. I was working my second 12–hour shift in two days. The hospital

I did my duty off and on for 55 minutes before time of death was called. I stood hovering over the patient's body, arms outstretched and ready to
make his heart beat one more final time when the doctor pronounced him dead. I read his obituary before I came in for my shift this night. As I
drifted deeper into my thoughts I kept thinking about this patient and what I read in the paper. He had several children and grandchildren. He was
an animal lover and helped in his community. I felt extremely honored to be trusted to help at least attempt to bring him back to life. I wondered
just how many people have passed at this hospital. I thought back to the comfort measures patients I had taken care of when I first started working
on my unit. These patients were expected to, "take the big trip home". They receive pain medication, bed changes, and are periodically turned to
prevent pressure ulcers. I have watched the labored breathing of a patient like this slow until it completely disappears. I have heard patients call out
to God and all their loved ones they were going home to. So many people, so many still nights. To some, ushering someone out of this world is
frightening, but I believe in Heaven. Whether they eased into their death like a gentle slumber or fought tooth and nail to stay they went someplace.
That transcending a person does, for me, is a spiritual experience. It reaffirms

Summary Of Rape On The Night Shift
On September 27th, 2017, we watched a documentary made by Priyanka Boghani called, Rape on the Night Shift, which was made June 23rd, 2015.
This document discusses the issues with a large number of women getting raped while doing their jobs, more specifically janitors, who aren't protected
by the company that they work for in the way that they should be. The documentary also goes over how rape is one of the most common crimes to go
unreported, and unprosecuted. These rapes still occur because when a rape is reported, companies are taking very little to no action in making their
workplace a safer environment and don't give each employee the necessary education and tools to allow them to stay safe should they ever be in a
rough situation. The investigators interview and reach out to many women who have been raped and sexually abused allowing them to tell their
stories, including Maria Bojorquez, Maria MagaГ±a, Erika Morales, Leticia Zuniga, and many more.
Pathos was the most reoccurring appeal Boghani used in the documentary. For example, a janitor working for SMS, a company that hires janitors in
Tennessee, Leticia Zuniga, shared her heart–wrenching story. Zuniga recalled the sexual abuse she endured from her manager, Marco Gonzalez. This
documentary was one of the few times she spoke about the abuse because he convinced her that no one would believe her and even threatened to tell
the police she was an illegal immigrant. Leticia feared that if she should go to the police they

Stephen King's Night Shift
Recently I stumbled across a Stephen King composition of scary stories titled Night Shift. In King's foreword, he explains that each and every one
of us has a filter in our minds. He asserted that "the sludge caught in the mind's filter, the stuff that refuses to go through, frequently becomes each
person's private obsession" and that these obsessions are called hobbies. I firmly believe that the sludge stuck in my head is programming. However,
I want to be fortunate enough to make my hobby my livelihood. I am proud of this quality, this hobby, because it allows me to be staunch in
furthering my education. It relates to who I am because it is what I enjoy. I have spent and will spend the latter three years of my high school career

Welcome to the night shift, new nurse! Many people in different professions think you are nuts for even accepting that you will work third shift after

when you wake up, but it is increasing your risk fo cancer and heart disease...woo hoo.
The Nurses' Health Study released information and it was recently published in an article in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, proving that
those women who have been on rotating night shift work (OK, those who work nights, unless you live in a cave, are rotating on their days off), have a
significantly higher rate of cardiovascular disease. Those who worked longer than that had even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

If you smoke – quit!

Working night shift is not easy for anyone. Check out how to get through night shift in the nerdynurse Brittany's blog
Those who work night shift do not usually do it because we want to. If you have a chance to get off the shift, do it, it's the best decision. Most nurses
after coming to dayshift do not realize how bad they were until they started to feel good.
Tip for those who think your kids want you on the shift: they don't. Most kids understand that you won't be there at night, but they don't see you
"there" when you have 2 hours of sleep either. Rest for your kids. Put them in daycare if you need to sleep a little bit, don't feel guilty. You need to

Night Shift In Nursing Practice Summary
Summary of Article The purpose of this qualitative study is to "provide an in–depth description of critical care nurses' practices, preferences, and
perceptions of napping/not napping when working night shift in either an emergency department or an intensive care unit (ICU)" (Fallis, McMillan, &
Edwards, 2011, p. e3). The introduction states that many nurses must remain highly vigilant while providing 24–hour care to unstable patients. Night
shifts continue to be a source of stress because sleep deprivation and fatigue increase risk for errors and personal injuries. Restorative napping can
improve performance; however, this practice is often disapproved by management and frequently hindered by care responsibilities and insufficient...

Summary: Night Shift Napping Opportunities For Nurses
The title for article one is Job demands and resting and napping opportunities for nurses during night shifts: impact on sleepiness and self–evaluated
quality of healthcare. Done by Beactrice Barthe, Ghislaine Tirilly, Catherine Gentil, and Cathy Toupin (2015). The study was conducted by

results the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale and the visual analog scale, and sleep diaries were used. (Karolinska Sleepiness Scale), measured duration
and time of rest and naps taking by nurses. (Visual Analog Scale) determine the quality of work. The purpose of the study was to define night shift

One more gap recognized in the article is that the author did not use the mixed linear models which is used to analyze the sleepiness data for
individual variability, it was difficult in this study to identify individual differences in the need for rest. For example from the 20 nurses, 2 nurses did
not take any break or naps and both worked on 2 hectic nights. However it is not known whether the nurses ever took a naps or rests, or if the cause
for not taking naps was the condition of the nights (hectic nights). The unique of the study is that it was the only study conducted by systematic
observations documented by the researcher and by sleep diary in an intensive care unit. Also two observations needed to be exclude from the study, due
to the incident that a nurse have to leave the unit one

of the clinic. My drive home was very calm and quiet but all I could think about was that woman with the cat in the red car. I prayed for her peace
and that the cat is ok. My experience at the animal clinic was amazingly fun, and emotional. I got to be around a variety of animals and learned that

Night Shift Officers Respond To Crime Even At Night

  • 1. Night Shift Officers Happen At Night No matter what time of the day or night, officers can be called onto a scene and they will arrive. Night shift officers stay awake all night and have a complete opposite work and sleep schedule than most people. More crime is likely to happen at night because criminals know that the majority of people in a city are asleep at night, so their risk of getting caught is lower. Although, police officers have to respond and act when crime happens, even at night. Day shift officers encounter the same risk of danger than night shift officers. More wrecks and traffic stops occur during daylight hours, so they do more physical interaction and work. Many officers work twelve hour shifts so literally half of their week is spent working. • 2. Night Shift Research Paper Night Shift Nurses and Anxiety Ashley Olson Dixie State University Night Shift Nurses and Anxiety Introduction As a CNA working occasional night shifts, I noticed the difference in behaviors between those nurses who worked strictly nights versus those who were strictly days. I then questioned if there would be a correlation between those nurses who worked night shift and anxiety. Most nurses who work night shift experience a different type of environment than those in day shfit as day shift is more on their feet as the patients are awake. While exploring the different correlations, I remained curious as to if there was a correlation between the nurses behaviors and working night. I feel like if I knew the correlation ... (Saksvik–Lehouillier, 2012, p.1136) The study went into detail about how each group could tolerate the shift work. Especially since working shifts can be related to many different negative health consequences. Some negative consequences could be anxiety, depression, insomnia and fatigue. In conclusion it explains how there is no difference between the groups toleration but rather that there are ways to improve the tolerance. Especially since there is some correlation between the negative effects and working a night shift. Some of the ways include, applying personality tests, couselling about the occupation and educating. (Saksvik–Lehouillier, 2012, p.1144) Recommendations In my first article, I would recommend a further investigation and comparison between day shift and night shift. I personally would recommend that while there was no direct correlation, the results could vary on the nurses history and how the nurse copes with various things. My second article focused more on how to better tolerate working at night. The study explains that working this type of shift can have negative health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Collapse Essay Prior to the collapse, Dew and I had joined Bally's gym downtown at 15th and Market. Our goal was to stay healthy and spiritual. Our minds were focused on the after hustling aspect of life and more into accepting Islam once we got finished in the game. I would bring a Yusuf Ali Quran with me to the gym and sit in the jacuzzi and sauna and just read some small chapters until I was ready to leave. My mind was at peace. I met one Muslim brother who used to sell perfumes who used to drop science on me in the locker room. A bald–headed young black lifeguard used to buss it up with me while I was in the pool sometimes reading the Quran. Every day is a hustle and another chance to better yourself. I'd go down South Philly to check my man Pone ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I complained to Pone. Pone already told me the deal before, but I didn't listen. He said to me to only come out there when he was there. He tried to get my stuff back to no avail. I acknowledged my mistake and moved on. If I ever came down there to hustle, I never came without Pone again. Back up North Philly was a whole different story. The grind was much more relaxed although you had to be on your P's and Q's. North Philly is a gold mine for all types of hustles and grinds. I began working a certain corner with Dee and some of his peoples. As mentioned before, that most of us agreed that this hustling stuff was temporary and that Islam would be our savior once we got this money and stepped out of the game. You wouldn't see anyone from the corner attracting attention by buying fancy cars, clothes, or bling. If you came upon us, you only would see normal guys looking like they were conversing. As long as there weren't any problems, then the neighbors were cool and kept quiet about things. You had to be respectful, courteous, and charitable to keep the love going. They only wanted peace on the block. They would salute you, embrace you, and even help you out. They would warn you from the cops, stick up boys, or even from their own friends. Most people on that block weren't addicts, so you just had to maintain a respectful and mutual relationship with them. I played the corner at times depending on the day, but never stood idle. • 4. Day Shift Vs. Night Nurses Day shift vs. Night shiftAs nurses pursue their careers, they are often faced with the challenge of picking what shifts to work. Both day and night shifts have their own advantages and disadvantages and so when choosing a shift many factors are put into consideration. Night shifts have physiological effects to the body. One of these effectsis due to the disturbances in the circadian rhythm. A bundle of cells in the anterior hypothalamus, known as the suprachiasmatic nucleus, function as the pacemaker for these rhythms.(Urden, Stacy, & Lough, 2015) The circadian clockis like a timer that lets various glands know when to release hormones and also control mood, alertness, body temperature. This can be a challenge for night nurses especially when they need to get hold of their managers when they need consultation about certain issues or policies. Although there may be an administrative supervisor at night, they might be very busy and it may not be easy to get hold of themespecially when one needs help immediately. In most hospitals there is one house supervisor who is in charge of everything during night shift. If multiple units or floors need help at the same time, the house supervisor is not able to help both units at the same time. He or she is to pick what unit has the most crucial needs. Dayshift to has a lot of employees available these include managers and supervisors. This makes it easier to get help during the day compared to nights. Night shift tends to have more new graduate nurses and fewer resources than day shifts.(Mensik & Sigma Theta Tau International, 2012)Itis important to ensure that each night shift has an expert that can help with triage or incase if a patient starts to deteriorate. Expert nurses can help the new nurses better manage their patient load and also provide mentored experience. Resource nurses, who are experts and have the experience and competency to assist the new graduate nurses, tend to be very helpful. Day shift has more expert nurses who have a lot of experiencecompared to nights. An advantage of this is that they are able to make decisions faster due to lots of experience especially if its in an emergency situation.Night shift has several psychological effects on night workers. This includes restlessness, sleepiness on the job, fatigue, and decreasedattentionand disruption of the body's metabolic process. These effects not only affect the nigh shift workers but also the community at large. For example when a night shifter leaves work in the morning feeling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Personal Narrative: My Night Shift At Taco Bell Once one night I had to work the night shift at Taco Bell. Other people who had worked there before me said that if you listened closely you could hear a soft banging noise on the walls. Some people ran for their lives other people never walked out of that Taco Bell and the police never found them. I feared nothing and those were all just myths anyways. Later I realized I was very very wrong. The boss gave me instructions for what to expect and a weak flashlight for me to use which I knew I wouldn't be able to use considering the weak light it produced. I took it anyways, I mean besides, I might have to use it to check the place out. The boss left and there I was in the dining area, alone. The place looked horrendous. It seriously looked like someone just threw up whole bits of food everywhere, and don't even get me started on the bathrooms. Anyways I was there, alone, walking around and was starting to wonder why they didn't put any cameras around the place. Just then I heard a soft... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "I know your in here." he said, "I'm gonna get you!" At that point I passed out. The next day, I woke up to find people standing above me. "What happened?" one of them said "I have no clue," I replied. "We called the police and they are on their way." Once the police got here they asked me a lot of questions and I replied "I don't know" to about almost all of them. After they were finished, I quit my job at Taco Bell and went home. • 6. Does Night Shift Increase Patient Care Errors? The Burning Question: Does Night Shift Increase Patient Care Errors? A nurse's role is to advocate for the patient, provide care to them and their families, to do no harm, to promote healthcare and to alleviate suffering (AMA, 2015). With this being said, does working the night shift increase patient care errors? The human body is regulated by the circadian rhythms that tell the body when to sleep and wake, so does this altered sleep pattern have a correlation with patient care errors? When nurses work the night shift, this natural rhythm is disrupted and can impact well–being, judgement and decision making as well as the overall health of the nurse. In the articles presented, there are several thoughts on whether or not the shift change causes decrease judgement, response time and decision making. Are nurses truly impacted by night shift or are there other variable that impact the nurse and their physical and emotional health. Are there more patient care errors on the night shift than any other shift? There are several journal articles that research this very question using Evidence–based practice and PICO. What is Evidence Base Practice and its Role in Health Care? Every day, nurses are challenged to care for patients using the best methods and best practice. Evidence–based practice (EPB) is defined as using a systematic approach to problem solving that combines best evidence with a patient preference, clinician's expertise and value (Potter & Perry, 2013). • 7. Night Shift Nursing Research Paper Developing a Staff Recognition Program for Night Shift Nurses Nurses are some of the hardest working individuals on the planet. They work tirelessly to help those who come through the hospital doors. Often, their hard work goes unnoticed and unappreciated. This is especially true for nurses who work the night shift. Fortunately, there are many ways that HR managers can show their appreciation to the hard work that these individuals offer to the hospital. One of the best ways to do this is by setting up a staff recognition program. Here are a few ways that HR managers can show their appreciation to the nurses of the night shift. Gift Cards These are possibly one of the most valuable things that a person can receive. By giving gift cards to nurses, HR will be providing them with a unique benefit. With these gift cards, the nurses will be able to reward themselves in a way that will be meaningful and beneficial to them. They are also helpful because nurses will be able ... Not only will this allow the nurses to have a special reward, but it can also help improve their communication skills, memory and the attention that the offer to patients. Daytime Outings Another concern that many HR managers deal with when looking to improve the morale of night–shift nurses is the fact that many deal with feelings of isolation. Since they are not able to participate in many events that are geared more towards daytime workers, nurses may find that they miss out on many activities. One way to counteract this situation is to set up outings that night–shift nurses can participate in while they are not working. This could be a company provided meal or fun activities that the nurses can do together. Regular ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. A Response To Night Shift : Strawberry Spring Short Story A Response to Night Shift: Strawberry Spring Short Story Stephen King is the author of many novels and short stories with creepy settings; King admits that he fears bugs to add to the list of things that freaks him out. One of his earlier short stories from 1976, women at college fall victim to a "Jack the Ripper" style character. My analysis of King's use of the literary elements, combined with his horror reflected in his short story, "Strawberry Spring". (The Fact Site, 8 Apr. 2017) Author Stephen Edwin King was born on September 21, 1947, in Portland, Maine. King is one of the most famous and successful horror writers of all time. King describes it as the "coldest winter in twenty years" giving way to warm weather causing fog to blanket the town in New England for a week. He paints a scene of rain causing the air to smell like the sea for 20 miles west of the beaches, the soft drip of water from the ancient gutters as 35 inches of snow turns to slush while ice sculptures melted. (Stephen King – Night Shift) The plot of the story denouement begins introducing the main characters, King as the unnamed student telling the story and the fog plays the second main part. Stephen becomes powerless against the need to be around the fog as though it owns him while causing headaches and memory loss. The action builds as women are murdered; one per night and totaling four. King adds to the reader's suspense by giving light details of the gruesome murders. The first victim's throat cut from ear to ear. The second tells a paranormal event with her head decapitated and had been found on a soggy path of ground twelve feet from the nearest sidewalk, and yet there were no footprints, not even her own. • 9. The Importance Of Nurses ' Healthiness Is Not Affected By... However, other studies have found that nurses' healthiness is not undesirably affected by the 12 h shift (Dwyer et al., 2007; Jennings and Rademaker, 1987; Kaliterna and Prizmic, 1998), and some have established that it can essentially have affirmative well–being benefits, comprising a substantial reduction in individual symptomatology in the areas of overall health, cardiovascular associated illnesses, anxiety and frustration (Eaton and Gottselig, 1980), reduced emotional exhaustion (Stone et al., 2006; van Servellen and Leake, 1994) and consumption more healthily (Freer and Murphy–Black, 1995). One study found that nurses employed 12 h shifts involvement suggestively less compassion tiredness than those working for 8 h (Yoder, 2010). A smaller quantity of studies have reconnoitered the connection among work hours and the probability of incident or injury to nurses but these too have self–contradictory results. One study found that the danger of 'drowsy driving' doubled over and the risk of actuality involved in a motor vehicle crash or near motor vehicle crash nearly doubled when driving followed shifts exceeding 12 and a half hours in period (Scott et al., 2007). However, additional study found no changes stated in trouble driving home pre and post carrying out of 12 h shifts (Mills et al., 1983). Trinkoff et al. (2006a) found that employed 13 h or lengthier was considerably related with prevalence of neck, shoulder and back injury/complaint, even though Lipscomb et al. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. I Have Your Sunday Night Shift "Can I have your Saturday night shift? Lilly was sick on Thursday and I need to make up for the hours I lost caring for her." A message like this was typical during my freshman and sophomore years at university, when I worked with many single mothers who struggled to afford medical care for their families. If asked then, I would have said I wanted to become a physician so I could help to change the difficult situation of people calculating the amount of work hours needed to afford medical care. The experiences of my colleagues were not entirely foreign to me, as I remember counting the amount of hours I needed to work in order to fund graduate and medical school applications and MCAT materials. While the stress from those experiences does not completely compare to the stress of my colleagues and medical care affordability, I do understand how heavy the burden of needing enough work hours to cover expenses can be. If asked after my junior year of college, I would have said I wanted to become a physician so I could provide comprehensive reproductive healthcare for marginalized groups of people. I would have discussed my fulfilling experiences volunteering in an abortion clinic, and spoken of the nursing student who, whilst grateful for my professional support, embraced me because she needed to hear that her decision to have an abortion was not wrong. I would have also talked of the American Medical Student Association Sexual Health Scholars course, and how profoundly moving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. 12 Hour Shift In Nursing Nursing is a profession that is known for requiring staff to work nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a duty that most nurses are aware of prior to going into the field, however, they may not be fully aware of the impact these varied shifts have on personal health and performance. These types of fluctuating work hours are often referred to as shift work, which is defined by Berger and Hobbs (2006) as shifts taking place aside from the traditional daytime hours (p. 465). Typical hospital shifts outside of the day shift are usually classified as evening shift or night shift. Some nurses may work permanent days or nights; however, it is more common for nurses to find themselves rotating between the two shifts. Studies have shown that shift ... • 12. Strawberry Spring By Stephen King Analysis Killer's Perspective A horror story should have some elements to grab the attention of audience such as suspense and mystery. However, it is a challenge to achieve this goal especially in a short story, but that did not seem to be an obstacle for Stephen King, who is famous for writing horror fiction stories. Jeffrey W. Hunter, who is editor of Contemporary Literacy Criticism, believes that Stephen King is a marketing phenomenon for the large number of books he has sold. One of his first works was "Strawberry Spring," which was published along with other short stories in a book titled Night Shift in 1978. In the same manner as other Stephen King's writings, "Strawberry Spring" is a story loaded of mystery where death is one of the main components. The story begins with a narrator's memory about what happened eight years ago when he was in college in 1968. The narrator remembers how a serial killer who was called Springheel Jack came into action during strawberry spring which is a natural phenomenon that only happens every eight years. Four young women were murdered in that year. Despite the efforts and investigations of police, the murderer was never caught. After eight years, the strawberry spring has come back and the killer, as well. Without a doubt, first person narrative point of view, setting, and symbolism are crucial elements that make "Strawberry Spring" a fascinating story. According to Jenny Gribble, the process of discerning involves wisdom and experience, as well as observation and biological knowledge. This first shift gave me plenty of opportunities to watch how differently people throughout the hospital employ their own discernment when assessing situations and making decisions related to patient care. During my first shift, the unit was busy and there was constant movement on the floor due to the high number of patients in the census. In addition, a rapid response was called on the unit, which contributed to the feeling that the floor was unusually active. At first I felt intimidated by the atmosphere that resembled chaos but I decided to jump in and do what I could to help. I figured, the more that was happening, the more opportunities there would be to learn; this was an accurate assumption. Clinical Experiences The patient I will primarily discuss is a three year old boy who is recovering from a traumatic right cerebral ischemic stroke with subsequent left sided hemiparesis from an unknown mechanism, which is presumed to be cause by a non–accidental trauma. Due to his injuries, C.H. underwent a right craniectomy. Since the surgery, he has had a large "flap" on the right side of his head. Social work is doing a lot of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To All Meeting Participants: This meeting is called to review the VRMC's question and its relation to the Pediatric Manager Martha McGuire, "What does RIGHT look like"? I'm not sure of the past practices and relationships between the manager and the employees and the manager and the patients and patents' families. The Peds manager's behavior I've witnessed on Wednesday December 21st, is unacceptable and simply will not be tolerated. I cared for 5 patients the previous night. As shift change was approaching, 3 of the 5 asked me who will be the nurses working today. As I provided them with the answer, the replies were shocking, to me! She stated Martha may not have heard them. She stated that Martha stated in a very disturbing tone EXCUSE ME, Y'ALL COULD SPEAK. I didn't witness this but it was enough for the parent to request her to not be their caregiver for the day. Do I project a professional appearance? On December 21st, Martha passed out breakfast trays. One parent stated that as Martha entered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Physiologic Effects Of Shift Work On Nurses Literature review sub title 4 Berger and Hobbs (2006), argued that modifying external factors such as diet and exercise, the amount of shifts worked consecutively, and the food and beverage intake patterns will reduce the negative health effects associated with shift work on nurses. Some of the main topics that the researchers focused on are: 1.Basis for biological rhythm The circadian rhythm is affected for nurses working the shift work. The study mentions that the biological rhythm consists of the external rhythm which covers meal times, sleep times and social activities, and the internal rhythm which is the circadian rhythm. The fact that the circadian rhythm is affected with shift work nurses by the difference of night and day sleep time, their social activities and meal times are also affected. This makes it more difficult for them to adjust with their social life which in itself creates stress. Moreover, stress increases cortisol levels which is a hormone that regulates the amount of fat stored in the body which makes shift workers gain weight by increasing their BMI. 2.Physiologic effects of shift work The study here is focused on the melatonin levels, cortisol levels and body temperature in shift workers. • 17. The On The Night Shift Description: I have been working on the night shift in our ward. Upon arrival from the nurses station at around 2130 and received a handover, the evening nurse then left at around 2145. The handover was brief and basic; also it tackles all the important points that I need to know about the patients. After receiving handover from the outgoing nurse, I also received a ward handover as an in charge for the night shift. After completing the ward handover, I started with my initial rounds into one of my patients. The infusion pump was making a "downstream occlusion" noise, prior to that during handover, I heard a beeping sounds coming from one of the rooms in our ward but we ignored it. When I pointed the torch into the pump and examined the IV lines, I noticed that the administration rate of total parenteral nutrition or TPN rate seemed to be different from what was handed over to me. To make sure that the rate is correct or incorrect, I shuffled through the bedside notes. I looked for the TPN chart and found that the TPN bag had been changed at around 1700 with a different rate. It was more than four hours after the TPN bag was hung and administered at an incorrect rate. Feelings: Upon knowing that the TPN was administered at a faster rate, I was concerned and worried in relation to the patient's observations and electrolytes. The patient was oriented and there were no signs of any electrolyte overdose. The patient was unaware about the error in the administration of the TPN. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While it was their responsibility to complete the work that came on during their shift, they are not to blame for the stain deteriorating. I don't think that the supervisor had the right to yell at the friend considering, the night shift was late to work and it was past their shift and they did not notice that the stain was having issues until after the slide was made. Had the cell stainer had problems earlier in their shift then it would have been problematic. However, saying that the friend is to blame for the night shift's delay in work and how it could have compromised patient care, if the night shift had been on time, the whole process might have been taken care of more effectively. I believe there was too much blame placed on the friend, when really both parties could have been blamed for some parts, so I think it was addressed poorly. • 19. The Fatigue Associated With Working The Night Shift The fatigue associated with working the night shift was brought into the spotlight after an aircraft incident that occurred on June 10, 1990. British Airways flight 5390 had just departed from Birmingham International Airport when the aircraft experienced a rapid pressure loss due to the pilot's windshield blowing out of the aircraft. This resulted in the pilot being sucked halfway out of the aircraft and another flight crew member grabbing the pilots belt and holding him from being sucked completely out while the copilot to take control of the aircraft and land it safely at a nearby airport. The official findings of the accident investigation linked the windshield blowout to the wrong size bolts being installed. The bolts were installed early in the morning hours and the fatigued shift maintenance manager who installed them didn't recognize that they were the wrong bolts. He thought that the countersinking on the window was unusually large (Baron, 2009). This is just one example of mistakes made on night shift due to fatigue. Fatigue is a dangerous human factor that is present in the aircraft maintenance community. There are ways to mitigate the risk of fatigue, though. It starts with the airline companies themselves. Setting a work schedule that doesn't allow workers to work more than 12 hours will allow their employees an opportunity to get the rest needed. It is also up to the aircraft maintainers to ensure that their off duty responsibilities don't interfere ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Stephen King Strawberry Spring Speech "Strawberry Spring" has offered the reader an opportunity to "show that we are not afraid" of facing our fears that often plague our mind (King, "Why we" 1). Stephen King's stories has kept us on the edge of our seats and awake at night in fear of the Boogeyman waiting in the closet. Our fears has been the soft areas within our bodies we would never want to be prodded at by another or intense thrillers. At some point, everyone must face their fears or inevitability of such fears. For example, near the beginning of the narrator's encounter "a junior named John Dancey" stumbled upon a "dead girl lying in a shadowy corner of the Animal Sciences parking lot" (King, "Strawberry Spring" 2). The explicit imagery used to reveal the brutality associated with Gale Cerman's demise is truly intriguing and thrilling. Nearly every person spends their life fearing their own inevitable demise and the death of those around them, the traumatizing description of Gale's death really is "Daring [our] nightmares" (King, "Why We" 1). "Strawberry Spring" fulfills Stephen King's claim that one reason we watch and read horror is to show "that we are not afraid" (1). Another equally important claim from Stephen King's essay is to, "re–establish our feelings of essential normality" (King, "Why We Crave" 1). Throughout theshort story we can relate with the narrator, victims, and the events of "Strawberry Spring". Many details within the story are relatable on a basic level. As a matter of fact, ... Stephen King wrote the boogeyman to show how children can see things that adults never could. Children have a lack of reality sense and imagination which lets them see more and less than adults. The reason why adults usually do not believe children are because children have a lack of reality sense and imagination which makes them unbelievable. The purpose of this research study was to explore the perception and experiences of critical care nurse managers with their staff's napping practices during the night shift. One concept that is explored is the various sources of evidence that shows that brief naps can improve alertness and performance and enhance safety of not only nurses, but other people who work shiftwork. They also explored literature that supported the fact that sleep inertia or feeling groggy after a nap was one potential drawback to napping on the night shift. The researchers also reviewed studies that showed that the effectiveness of naps depended on their length. According to these studies, ideally the best nap is not too long but not too short. However, none of the other works reviewed by these authors mentioned anything about managers. While these articles do highlight the potential risks and benefits of sleeping on the night shift, it is unclear of how these studies related to the variable that is being studied in this study. This study does not provide a clear conceptual definition of what manager's think. On the positive side, the literature review does give possible explanation of various reasons why a manager might be for or against napping. As stated above, there is only one variable so the literature review cannot make explicit the relationship between the two variables or place them in a theoretical framework. This document discusses the issues with a large number of women getting raped while doing their jobs, more specifically janitors, who aren't protected by the company that they work for in the way that they should be. The documentary also goes over how rape is one of the most common crimes to go unreported, and unprosecuted. These rapes still occur because when a rape is reported, companies are taking very little to no action in making their workplace a safer environment and don't give each employee the necessary education and tools to allow them to stay safe should they ever be in a rough situation. The investigators interview and reach out to many women who have been raped and sexually abused allowing them to tell their stories, including Maria Bojorquez, Maria MagaГ±a, Erika Morales, Leticia Zuniga, and many more. Pathos was the most reoccurring appeal Boghani used in the documentary. Zuniga recalled the sexual abuse she endured from her manager, Marco Gonzalez. One more gap recognized in the article is that the author did not use the mixed linear models which is used to analyze the sleepiness data for individual variability, it was difficult in this study to identify individual differences in the need for rest. For example from the 20 nurses, 2 nurses did not take any break or naps and both worked on 2 hectic nights. However it is not known whether the nurses ever took a naps or rests, or if the cause for not taking naps was the condition of the nights (hectic nights). The unique of the study is that it was the only study conducted by systematic observations documented by the researcher and by sleep diary in an intensive care unit. Also two observations needed to be exclude from the study, due to the incident that a nurse have to leave the unit one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Personal Narrative: Night Shift In An Animal Hospital Night Shift In An Animal Hospital It was just a night in an animal hospital, how exciting could it be? I assumed it would be calm, quiet and a little boring. Wow was I wrong! My nine hour night shift at the clinic was a everything but boring and nearly ran on pure adrenaline. As a little girl I had always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian and working with animals. Throughout my life significant events shaped my career choice and lead me to becoming a nurse instead. Deep down I have continued to question what it would be like to become a veterinarian, which is why I chose this topic for my paper. I wanted to know if this experience would end up being everything I had imagined my whole life. The vet hospital I chose was located in Lima, Ohio.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thanked Dr. April and her staff for having me there for the night. I got into my car, as I was about to pull out of my spot a red car flew into the parking spot beside me. The lady had a frantic look on her face. She ran to the passenger side of her car and grabbed a cat and ran in the front doors of the clinic. My drive home was very calm and quiet but all I could think about was that woman with the cat in the red car. I prayed for her peace and that the cat is ok. My experience at the animal clinic was amazingly fun, and emotional. I got to be around a variety of animals and learned that dealing with animals is way different than caring for humans. I am glad I got to experience what it would be like to be a vet, it gave me a clear understanding that I have chosen the right career for myself and that is being a ... This definition covers a lot which I found very interesting, sexual assault is not put on a petal stool to talk about openly. In my opinion the world should cover topics around this more often so people are aware of it. In the video I thought that it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
