Lymes disease is present here in Nova Scotia and has also affected humans and dogs in different
parts of North America. It is one of the most common tick–causing symptoms however only 5–10%
of dogs are affected showing different forms of the disease. Living in Lunenburg & Queens County
(NS), there seems to be a higher population of deer ticks, as well as other parts of the province. The
deer ticks are the primary carrier of the disease. A tick carrying the bacteria (B.burgdorferi) that can
cause Lyme disease can transmit it to a dog after filling itself with blood, which takes at least 48
hours. Even if it is attached for 48 hours, the dog may not contract the disease.

¼ Cup of water.
DIRECTIONS:
Spray generously, daily, before going out until the coat is nice and damp. Spray in hand and rub
mixture on the head and ears of your dog. Avoid contact with the eyes and muzzle.
You can add lavender oil (10–20 drops), and/or tea–tree oil(10–20 drops) to the mixture. I just use
the simple recipe above and so far, it's working great. Before I started to apply this mixture, my dog
was indeed getting ticks, and since using this, there hasn't been any!

We all love our fuzzy babies but, who would have thought dogs do have psychological issues just

A cause of this could be that the dog had a bad experience with something in the past. Seeing an
object that reminds them of this can cause them to be stressed out or make them upset. One way to
cure this is to tackle this fear or phobia head on. For example, have the dog look at it and be in the

example, he complains about a personal experience where one man would not stop trying to talk to
his guide dog. In Don's speech he started with the birth of guide dogs and their very first training
and talked about this for the first five minutes; then transitioned to talking about the ADA's
guidelines and sharing his negative bias on certain businesses such as airports. Don also did not
share any history about guide dogs only information about the ADA and its guidelines with
businesses. Don also tends to change his tone when he is talking about a particular situation that he

is a handler and has been to schools with his guide dogs and received first hand experience and

This summer during May and June, I attended the internship at a company named Focus on Fur
Animal Wellness and Massage, which is owned by a certified small animal massage practitioner. We
both love animals such as dogs and cats and we both keep a dog at home. Our common points made
us feel connected with each other that we had so many topics especially for dogs to talk about. In
addition, the job contents were mostly related to dogs, which attracted me and made me want to
explore more knowledge in this field. I was responsible for multiple tasks during this internship,
since the company was a small start–up company that provided me the opportunity to handle almost
everything that a company needs at the preliminary stage. Before my internship, I had no real
direction of a particular position that I would like to pursue as my future career goal. I was trying to
find an opportunity in which I could gain some working experience as well as put on my resume.
Looking back now, an internship with various tasks helps me realize what I am willing to do and

has been around for many years. The dog, Canis familiaris, is a direct descendent of the gray wolf,

means every time the dog does something right he gets praised or he gets a bite. On the other hand
every time he does something wrong he gets a correction verbal or physical.
In contrast food or prey kill is most often used as the primary reward in detector work. As long as
the dogs' needs are met food can be a very good motivator. If a dog needs twenty ounces of food a
day but I only give him ten ounces at meals I then have ten to work with while searching for
substances. Prey kill is also widely used in detector work, unlike patrol training, the need is met by
allowing the dog to bite a ball, kong, squeaky toy or pull wraps. Avoidance training is the same in
both patrol and detector training. Detector dogs unlike patrol dogs are usually not on a fixed ratio
reward schedule. Most drug dogs are on a variable ratio or a fixed time schedule. This means after
an unset number of finds the dog receives his reward or after a set amount of time he receives his
reward while working. Explosive dogs are usually on a variable ratio and variable time schedule.
This allows the handler to decide when the dog needs a reward but saves time during an explosive
search.
