yellow. The infographic also caught my attention because it had a theme of a school it also had a
title which started with "child poverty". The word "poverty" when look at it, I expect a homeless
child in some developing country. The child I expect looks very skinny, hungry and has clothes on
that are torn up or no clothes at all. Also this infographic had a lot of numbers side by side, this
caught my attention because I was very curious about what those numbers were for. In my thoughts

Socio–economic factors are widely acknowledged as important determinants of poverty. If an
individual experiences adverse living conditions in childhood, majority of them will have
inadequate income and result in low socio–economic status as adults (Carroll et al, 2011). Children
born in poor households have difficulty in accessing the basic needs (e.g. food, clothing, and good
living environment) and this can affect their learning ability at school, unable to focus. In other
words, they have a higher chance of dropping out of school or lower education attainment, unable to
provide appropriate qualifications when they move onto adulthood, seeking for job opportunities.
These children are finding day–to–day life tough, they are living in cold, damp houses, do not have
warm or rain–proof clothing, their shoes are worn, and many days they go hungry (Children's
Commissioner, 2012). Often this has taken place over a long period of time, impacting on their

flowers. They must be loved, protected, and nourished in order to bloom. If they lack any of these
essentials, they are most likely going to suffer and die without being able to serve their purpose.
There is this universal hope that all children will flourish in life; however, there are certain
circumstances that draw a line between the fortunate and unfortunate. In this case, the factor that
dictates their future is their status in society, such as having the leisure of being able to attend
facilities that aren't available to others. Poverty in children has numerous psychological, physical
and mental effects and well–being. Based on the context that the children operate within their social
and academic forte, poverty affects the children unfavorably in numerous distinct ways. Children
living in poverty are often denied access to basic needs and proper living conditions for healthy
growth and development. As such, the insufficiency or dearth of the needs affect their lives in a
great way that constrain their normal growth to become productive people in the world.

According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, over 16 million children (22%) in the
United States live below the federal poverty level, which is $23,550 per year for a family of four.
Research has shown that a family requires an income of about twice that amount just to cover basic
needs and expenses. Using these statistics, 45% of children in the US live in low–income
households. Most parents of low–income children are employed, but unsteady employment
accompanied with low wages leave families struggling to make ends meet. The effects of poverty on
children are numerous and long lasting, such as impaired learning ability as well as social,
behavioral, and emotional difficulties. Childhood poverty can also contribute to poor physical and
mental health. Research has shown that poverty is the greatest threat to s child's well–being, but
public policies can make a difference when they are implemented effectively.
One of the most obvious and frequently researched consequences of child poverty is low academic
achievement. Duncan et al. (1994) concluded that family income and poverty level remain the most

When a child is raised on the losing side of the social spectrum goes to school, it isn't the school that
could potentially bring them out from the depths of poverty, but one that keeps them drowning in the
same things their parents did. Unlike the poor, the middle class has a lead way to both sides. They
are far enough up the spectrum to work hard to reach the top or give up and hit the bottom and the
upper class will always have the upper hand. The type of education a child receives in grade school

class is refurbished from good to great, education in poverty stricken areas is pushed below the
levels of acceptability.

Bradshaw (2015) uses term child poverty to refer to the children who lack material resources. There
are two forms of Poverty. One is coined 'absolute poverty'. Where there is a definite shortage of
available resources and it is about the same for everyone in that society. The other is 'relative
poverty' is a form material disadvantage. This occurs when some their people do not meet the

In the United States, child poverty has been a severe issue even when the country was established.
When looking at the statistics of child poverty from the past, it is clear that there was an increasing
number of families and children living in poverty. This trend dates back to the year 2000 when 11.6
