4. Art. 171.
The authorities of the indigenous communities,
peoples and nationalities shall
exercise judicial functions, based on their
ancestral traditions and their own justice,
within their territory, with a guarantee of
women’s participation and decision. The
authorities shall apply their own standards and
procedures for resolving their
internal conflicts, and not contrary to the
Constitution and human rights recognized
in international instruments.
The State shall ensure that the decisions of the
indigenous jurisdiction are respected
by public institutions and authorities. Such
decisions are subject to control of
constitutionality. The law shall establish
mechanisms for coordination and
cooperation between indigenous jurisdiction and
ordinary jurisdiction.
