Target audience review
1.
2. WHO IS YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE?
I shall aim my magazine at teens to early adulthood (11-19+) My genre of music throughout my
magazine would be chart music as it appeals to a younger group rather than an older group. I
researched into many resources such as radio stations which play the same genre of music which I
will relate to in my magazine. The websites show statistics of the variety of listeners to that radio
station which relates to my target audience. Most listeners of capital are of a younger audience which
is good for my music magazine as it shows the younger audience are fans of chart music and is very
popular to the more younger generation. The aim form my magazine is to be bright and colourful, yet
with a bit of sophistication as most teens have a desire to act older than what they really are. Most
teens are likely to be in full time education or for the more older section of my target audience, would
be just starting out with their first job. For these reasons, I will budget my music magazine quite cheap
so they are able to afford the magazine. The price of the magazine will be £1.16 from the shelf,
however, because my magazine will be sold online, it should work out at about £13.92 monthly.
However, they could be sold separately on the shelf. This is a good purchase for young readers as
they may not have a lot of money if they are still in full time education or in an apprenticeship as they
may not be earning a high income from a part time job. This should be affordable. In saying this, there
may be some readers that are outside of my target audience that may prefer this genre of music or
read this magazine. But my main focus will the target audience I have set. I have also chosen to set
this target audience because I fall into this age gap which means I understand the latest music trends
that are seen in similar magazines.
3. HOW WILL YOUR MAGAZINE APPEAL TO YOUR
TARGET AUDIENCE?
There are many things I can do to aim my magazine at my target audience. For example, I will
firstly set the genre of my magazine to chart music/pop music. This will be noticeable as I will use a
colour scheme that would represent chart/pop music. The colour scheme would be quite bright and
would relate to a more female audience as from my previous deconstructions of pop and chart
magazines, they have feminine colours like pinks and purples. However, I am thinking of having
some teal blue tones to make the magazine look more gender mutual. But the majority of my target
audience should be girls. I looked closely again at the radio station statistics and there are more
female listeners. In my questionnaire, colour scheme seemed to be important to readers when
buying a magazine followed very closely with the featured celebrity. Because of this, I shall dress
one of my friends as a model to represent famous celebrities that may relate to my target
audience. Seen as though Rhianna was the most preferred celebrity from my target audience
(found from the questionnaire) I shall use Kayyah as a model to act like a celebrity like Rhianna but
will be called Kayah. As I am using an original image, Rhianna wont be on the front cover and I
shall use a model instead. Throughout the magazine, I will be using all original images as I can
show a variety of photography and editing skills. I will also make my magazine interactive, meaning
I will have a link to online sites and social networking pages for the magazine. I am doing this
because my magazine should be appealing to teenagers and it is likely and found that teenagers
are likely to go online to find out more about their music preferences and use technology as well as
read magazines.
